In New York’s 19th Congressional District (which I used to be a part of before a recent redrawing put me into the 18th instead), Steven Brisee was running among several other Democrats hoping to oust Republican Congressman John Faso from his seat. But Steven Brisee can’t seem to stop himself from getting arrested!

Steven Brisee was most recently arrested for Grand Larceny, a felony, after he was caught trying to steal $1500 worth of merchandise, some 50 items of clothing and housewares, from a Kohl’s department store in Newburgh, NY. Brisee has decided to drop out of the race after this arrest, but he blames autism and his lack of people skills for fundraising as the reason, not his criminal history. Although he did admit to a local paper that he had been arrested for shoplifting in the past, he claims his latest arrest was for criminal trespass during a pipeline protest. Via Times Herald Union:

Newburgh Town Police said on Wednesday that Brisee is facing a felony grand larceny charge for allegedly trying to steal about $1,500 worth of merchandise from a Kohl’s in Orange County.

Newburgh Police Lt. James Nenni told the Times Union that Brisee was arrested Sept. 11 on charges accusing him of attempting to take about 50 items from the department store. Nenni said a petit larceny charge was bumped up to a felony because of the value of the goods, which included men’s clothing and other household items.

But in an interview Wednesday evening, the candidate disputed the charge.

“Why would I be trying to steal something while running for Congress?” Brisee said.

The charges were reported by the Kingston Daily Freeman on Tuesday. Brisee disputed the charge in that newspaper’s report as well.

Brisee told the Times Union on Wednesday evening that while he had been arrested in 2010 for stealing from the Kohl’s store — Brisee was homeless at the time — he was arrested for criminal trespass on Sept. 11 for protesting construction of the Pilgrim Pipeline.

“Either they’re looking up an old arrest or I don’t know,” he said.

Brisee said his previous grand larceny arrest was dropped to a violation.

What isn’t in dispute is that Brisee was sent to the Orange County Jail following the Sept. 11 arrest.

Brisee said he was in custody until his bail was posted Saturday night by his step father. He initially was sent to Orange County Jail but transferred to Ulster County Jail to be held on a separate trespass charge stemming from an incident in Ulster County.

Brisee said he was staying at a friend’s house, but the friend had not told his father Brisee was given permission to stay. Two days before his protest arrest, the father had called the police.

With Brisee in Orange County Jail and police in Ulster County unable to contact him, a warrant was issued for his arrest in that county. He was then transferred to Ulster County Jail on Sept. 15.

Wait, what? Didn’t he say the trespass arrest was for a pipeline protest? Now we see a trespass arrest for illegally occupying somebody else’s home. But wait, there’s more! Via Daily Freeman News:

Brisee said he and some friends were in Newburgh protesting a pipeline, but he could not recall the name of the road he was on or what company was constructing the pipeline. He said he believes people waiting to work at the construction site called police, leading to his arrest.

“I was protesting a pipeline,” Brisee said.

A clerk at the Newburgh Justice Court confirmed the felony grand larceny charge against Brisee. The matter is before Judge Jude Martini and Brisee is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 6.

Brisee is being represented by attorney Brad White of the Legal Aid Society of Orange County who could not be reached for comment.

In regards to the criminal trespass charge in Ulster County, Brisee said that matter is in Rochester Town Court and was a misunderstanding. He said he had permission to be at a friend’s house, but the friend did not tell their father. The father called police, Brisee said.

Details about that charge were not immediately available from the court. The criminal trespass matter is scheduled to return to the court on Oct. 4, according to a clerk.

Brisee also said a 2015 misdemeanor drunken driving charge against him had been reduced to a violation driving while ability impaired charge.

So Steven Brisee already had an arrest history, but he thought running for public office was a good idea to do while he continued with his lawbreaking ways, and when it finally catches up to him to the point that he feels compelled to drop out of the congressional race, he blames an autistic lack of social skills, not his own criminality and an inability to keep his stories straight, as the reason why he could not garner voter support and fundraise effectively. Criminal behavior, lying, and blame gaming – kind of reminds me of another democrat (who even once held a political office here in New York).

The left and their #NeverTrump enablers are all giddy over former President George W. Bush’s speechifying in which he attacks President Trump (without having the courage to use the man’s name) and the people who support Trump’s agenda of placing the well being of the United States and American citizens over the interests of our self declared enemies and other foreigners.

This ex-President Bush had nothing to say during the eight years when Obama blamed him for EVERYTHING that was wrong in the world, I guess because defending himself would have been raaaaacist? Oh, wait, Bush said Obama deserved his silence, that he did not think it was helpful for a former president to trash his successor.

Perhaps the left had a point when they screamed for years and years that George W. Bush is a liar?

I won’t print here at Peter’s blog what my initial response was to this latest attack from a Bush against MY President, but I will link to it, in case you care to see how I really feel. iOTWReport Reader Golden Fox, however, is totally worth quoting on this matter:

Mr. Bush, I cannot believe how incredibly stupid you are. I mean rock-hard stupid. Dehydrated-rock-hard stupid. Stupid, so stupid it goes way beyond the stupid we know into a whole different dimension of stupid. You are trans-stupid stupid. Meta-stupid. Stupid collapsed on itself so far that even the neutrons have collapsed. Stupid gotten so dense that no intellect can escape. Singularity stupid. Blazing hot mid-day sun on Mercury stupid. You emit more stupid in one second than our entire galaxy emits in a year. Quasar stupid. Nothing in our universe can really be this stupid. Perhaps this is some primordial fragment from the original big bang of stupid. Some pure essence of a stupid so uncontaminated by anything else as to be beyond the laws of physics that we know.

Considering that shortly after the islamic terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, in which thousands of innocent people were murdered on our own soil by islamic terrorists for islam, George W. Bush made a big deal about insisting that “islam is peace”, I think perhaps Golden Fox is onto something there!

Sundance at The Last Refuge suggests that if you want to understand what is motivating the formerly silent ex-president to suddenly become a vocal critic of a current President (and his supporters) you should follow the money.

Not a bad idea. Regardless of his motives, whether it is the butt-hurt over Jeb! invading the USA is “an act of love” & “please clap” Bush’s crushing defeat in the Republican primaries by My Donald, or his need to be loved by the people who called him Bush/Hitler for years and years and years, or preserving his standing among anti-American globalist fatcats, I don’t care. He’s is just another Obama/Clinton/Carter to me now and he is even using their talking points. Heckuva job, Georgie! Please shut up and go back to painting now.

Be careful when you answer the phone! If you are told that a relative is injured or in some kind of other desperate situation, beware.

It’s commonly known as “The Grandparent Scam”, because elderly people are often the victims, but it could happen to anyone who isn’t sufficiently skeptical and gets caught off guard. Someone tried a variation of this scam on me a few months ago, but I am always suspicious of calls from unknown numbers so it didn’t work, but some rotten crooks almost got my favorite Auntie and my mom just the other day. If you’re not familiar with this particular con, here is how it works:

The target gets a phone call from someone either pretending to be their grandchild (or other relative) or a cop, or a lawyer, or a kidnapper, and says that the intended victim’s loved one has been hurt in an accident (or is in legal trouble, has been kidnapped, or is in some other kind of peril) and the only way to help them is to immediately wire a large sum of money somewhere – and don’t tell anyone or the person you love’s situation will greatly worsen!

If the victim complies, that money is gone forever, and their information may be sold to other scammers as an easy mark to get set up for more schemes. It’s a cruel crime, targeting vulnerable people and using their love for family as a weapon against them. Fraud.org provides some helpful information about this:

Stay safe. Be Informed.

The victim is urged not to tell anyone, such as the parent of the “grandchild” because they do not want them to find out about the trouble they’ve gotten themselves into. The grandparent never hears from their fake grandchild again and is tricked out of hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

To detect and avoid the Grandparent Scam, NCL’s Fraud Center recommends the following tips:

  • Beware of any urgent solicitation of funds, especially if it is needed to pay for unexpected bills, such as bail money, lawyer’s fees, or doctor bills
  • Before sending funds, independently contact the relative (or parent of the relative) the scam artist is claiming to be (or represent) at a known phone number to verify the details of the story.
  • Scam artist’s payment method of choice is the wire transfer. Any urgent request to wire money should be treated suspiciously.
  • Be aware that fraudsters attempting the Grandparent Scam may call late at night to confuse potential victims.
  • Consumers who have been victims of this scam should immediately report it to local law enforcement, their state attorney general and NCL’s Fraud Center at Fraud.org.

The FTC has additional advice:

Verify an Emergency

If someone calls or sends a message claiming to be a family member or a friend desperate for money:

  • Resist the urge to act immediately, no matter how dramatic the story is.
  • Verify the person’s identity by asking questions that a stranger couldn’t possibly answer.
  • Call a phone number for your family member or friend that you know to be genuine.
  • Check the story out with someone else in your family or circle of friends, even if you’ve been told to keep it a secret.
  • Don’t wire money — or send a check or money order by overnight delivery or courier.
  • Report possible fraud at ftc.gov/complaint or by calling 1-877-FTC-HELP.      MORE

The con artists will even make an effort  to “help” the victim. Via WBNS-10TV – Columbus, OH:

“Often times they’ll hand the phone off to a second party on the phone, alleging that’s the attorney and that serves the purpose of getting a different voice on there so they don’t continue to question whether this is my grandchild’s voice,” explains Sgt. Kline.

He goes on to say that sometimes, the scammers will even go as far as arranging taxi transportation for grandparents to get to the location where they can get the money orders.   Full Story HERE

The call that I received, from a strange cell phone number, said that my “husband, son, or brother” was in a horrible accident in a nearby town and had been taken away by ambulance, and the caller was someone who had been on the scene before emergency services arrived and that my male relative had given them my number to call as his own phone had been damaged in the accident. The guy who called me could not tell me the name of my injured loved one, saying that he was hurt so badly that he could barely talk and that he didn’t have any ID on him, they could not tell me what hospital my “husband, son, or brother” had been taken to, and they could not tell me my own name or how the injured male was connected to me, because my loved one was too messed up to say it before he was carted off  to an undisclosed location. I think the caller was expecting me to go to the location he had given me (the alleged scene of the accident) or meet him elsewhere and I do not know what would have happened then, but it didn’t get to that as I cut the guy off and insisted that he must have gotten the wrong number because I knew full well where all of my people were and I hung up.

The scam that targeted my aunt and almost robbed my mom was more like the ones described when you look up “injured relative phone scam” in a search engine, my mom got dragged into it because her sister is currently housebound recovering from a serious medical issue. Both women are in their eighties and love their families dearly. Here is how I found out about it:

My cousin called me two days ago looking for my mom. My mom lives 100 miles away so I figured she must have assumed she was up visiting or just called my number by mistake. My cousin was very upset. I told her that she’d reached my house, not my mom’s and that my mom was not here. My cousin told me that my aunt had gotten a call saying that another cousin, my aunt’s grandson, was hurt in an accident but that, “It was a trick” and that we needed to get hold of my mom, who was on her way to Western Union on behalf of my aunt. I guess my aunt had gotten the call and was so distressed that she called my mom for help, and my mom was going to withdraw almost two thousand dollars from her own bank account and wire the money on my aunt’s behalf.

Unfortunately, my mom had already left her house, she doesn’t answer her cell phone, and I did not know the location of the Western Union nearest to my mom, so I spent a good chunk of time fretting about it before my mom finally got back home and I could speak to her. Luckily, my mom started to get suspicious as to why she couldn’t just write a normal check and why there was no name for who to make the money order or transfer or whatever out to, so instead of completing the task, she went back home and called my aunt, who had by then been advised by my cousins of the con so nobody was hurt this time. Thank God.

Some versions of this nasty trickery also target people through email, text messages, and social media.

Please be careful if someone contacts you with an “emergency”, and tell the people that you care about who may be vulnerable to such tactics as the one described above to be cautious as well.

“Made with love” doesn’t go over well with bureaucrats. Well, you can make the things you cook “with love” in every bite, just don’t list it as an ingredient. Via FoxNews:

“Love” is definitely not an ingredient in granola, regardless of the amount of effort you put into making it, the Food and Drug Administration ruled on Monday.

The FDA issued a warning to Nashoba Brook Bakery for violating food labeling regulations by including “love” in its ingredients list. The agency added the bakery misbranded the product by including the obscure addition.

“Your Nashoba Granola label lists ingredient ‘Love.’ Ingredients required to be declared on the label or labeling of food must be listed by their common or usual name,” the FDA wrote in a letter dated Sept. 22.

“’Love’ is not a common or usual name of an ingredient, and is considered to be intervening material because it is not part of the common or usual name of the ingredient,” it added.

The bakery’s chief executive said the FDA’s ruling on their listing “love” as an ingredient “just felt so George Orwell” and was “silly.” The FDA says the ingredient thing wasn’t what concerned them the most, the government agency says the bakery has “sanitary issues” that are of greater importance. Here are some highlights from the warning letter the FDA issued to Nashoba Brook Bakery:

1.    Your firm failed to conduct all food manufacturing, including packaging and storage, under such conditions and controls as are necessary to minimize the potential for the growth of microorganisms, or for the contamination of food, as required by 21 CFR 110.80(b)(2). Specifically, on May 25 and 26, 2017, our investigator observed the following:
a.  On May 26, 2017, remnants of Pepper Jack dough (dairy allergen) were observed on the inside, the lip, and the outside edges of the “(b)(4)” stainless steel mixing bowl that an operator stated was cleaned, sanitized and ready for use prior to the production of non-dairy Sourdough dough.
b.  On May 25 and 26, 2017, empty color-coded barrels designated for use with different allergens including tree nuts (b)(4) and cheese (b)(4), with apparent dough residue inside and out, and stacked inside one another. These barrels were confirmed as clean and ready for use by the mixing operator, and were observed in use during operations.
c.  On May 25 and 26, 2017, (b)(4) bread loaf molds, wooden peels, canvas conveyor mats, rolling metal wire cooling racks, and ovens are not cleaned or sanitized prior to production or during change-over in between different allergen products. Your firm does not have a procedure or production schedule to ensure cleaning and sanitation is done before production or in between changes to prevent cross-contamination of different allergen products.

2.    Your firm failed to maintain equipment and utensils and finished product containers in an acceptable condition through appropriate cleaning and sanitizing, as necessary, as required by 21 CFR 110.80(b)(1). Specifically, on May 25 and 26, 2017, our investigator observed the following:
a.  What appeared to be an encrusted buildup of brown colored debris on the metal screen of the “(b)(4)” dough mixer that is positioned over all raw dough mixed during its operation.
b.  Plastic barrels, barrel lids, totes and tote lids used to hold and transport raw dough with apparent dough residue buildup. One barrel had an approximate 1″ dough clump from a different day’s production still stuck in a crack. These barrels had previously been pressure washed and were considered ready for use.
Two ceiling air intake vents adjacent to the bread ovens and above racks of ready-to-eat foods were caked with apparent debris.
Two large wooden bread peels used to pull ready-to-eat breads from ovens were placed on top of the ovens, which were covered with apparent debris.
Sprinkler heads above the bread ovens where ready-to-eat foods come out, were caked with apparent debris.

There is much more, including flies and an inch long insect on or near food, and employees failing to take basic food preparation precautions like taking off dangling jewelry that can come into contact with food and cause cross contamination, so apparently the whole kerfuffle is not just all about the love and isn’t as “silly” as the bakery’s executive would have you believe.

Nothin’ says lovin’ like unsanitary cross contaminated debris encrusted stuff from the oven?

via FrontPage Mag Discover the Networks:

Formed in May 2017 and based in New York City, the Revolutionary Abolitionist Movement (RAM) is a contingent of the Marxist/anarchist Antifa movement which has made many headlines this year with its violent, bloody attacks against conservatives from coast to coast. RAM’s self-described “revolutionary anarchists” are committed to waging “armed” warfare against American “fascism” ― the term that RAM employs as a synonym for conservatism. Rooted in what it calls “the context of the abolitionist struggle against slavery” ― and “dedicated to freeing people from bondage and building resistance in the United States” ― RAM contends not only that America was “built on slavery and genocide,” but also that “modern slavery and mass brutality” against black people “persist unchecked” to this day.

Because “the Civil War was never resolved,” RAM elaborates, “the system of slavery transitioned into the prison industrial complex” where blacks are inarcerated in disproportionately high numbers. On the premise that the United States government has conspired “with white supremacist organizations” to “ensure that the relations of slavery [remain] entrenched in U.S. political, social, and economic life,” RAM claims that “the [slave] ships” of yesteryear have been replaced by the “correctional buses” that transport African Americans en masse to prison cells across the country; that “the [slave] auction blocks [of the 1800s] are now the courtrooms” in American cities; and that black people today “are indelibly marked with prison numbers that remain etched on their records till they die.”

“The abolitionist struggle,” says RAM, must be extended and directed against “the state and capitalism,” which are supposedly the leading modern-day “perpetrators of oppression.” Openly advocating violence against “fascists” and police officers ― the latter of whom RAM views as government-sanctioned enablers of fascism ― the Movement indoctrinates its members and allies by means of workshops bearing titles like “Introduction to Anarchism” and “Our Enemies in Blue.”    MORE

From the RAM website, we learn that they intend to remedy what they see as the injustice of sending criminals to prison and deporting illegal foreign invaders is to create their version of the “Underground Railroad” to facilitate evasion of justice for fugitives:

We will create networks for those facing detention, incarceration, deportation, or white supremacist violence to escape and live with dignity. We invite revolutionaries to help build a contemporary underground railroad, outside the reach of the state. Revolutionaries, social centers, and antifa groups that are already active can help build greater infrastructure of resistance to support those fleeing the state.

They will need resources to accomplish their illegal goals, which they will obtain by taking from those who are unwilling to provide (AKA stealing):

To carve out an autonomous territory, or to begin the revolutionary process, goods, land, and tools must be expropriated, or taken away from those who withhold them.

Who are heroes to these people? Cop killers, of course!

Among RAM’s most visible individual heroes are a pair of Marxist cop-killers and former Black Panther Party members: (a) Mumia Abu Jamal, whom RAM characterizes as a shining symbol of “Philadelphia’s rich revolutionary tradition,” and (b) Russell Shoats, who characterized himself as “a runaway slave” when he escaped in 1977 from the prison where he was serving a life sentence for the murder of a Philadelphia police officer.

RAM also greatly admires the Marxist revolutionaries Angela Davis, who in 1970 provided the gun that was used by one of her Black Panther comrades to blow off the head of a California judge, and Assata Shakur, who in 1973 fired two fatal gunshots into the head of a New Jersey state trooper.

Columbus Day is coming up soon, and these goons have plans for it:

Today, RAM is calling for its supporters to stage “Deface Columbus Day” demonstrations across the United States in early October. Most notably, those supporters are urged to “‘decorate’ their neighborhoods” with the hashtags “#Fu**ColumbusDay” and “#DestroyColonialism.”

The left just keeps on pushing, never expecting the laws they break to ever be enforced or for their intended victims to ever fight back. I guess we will just have to see how that all works out for them.

Like a lot of families at this time of year, life has been hectic this week for mine. It was our first full week of Homeschooling for the new school year, I took my girl puppies to get spayed, observed September 11th by talking about it with my kids, and have been worrying over my cats after six out of the seven got sick – I think most of them have colds, we have had some damp and chilly weather lately, on days when it wasn’t hot and humid or pouring rain.

The dogs got through their operations just fine and are already running around with their mother and brothers like nothing happened. My puppies will have their first birthday next month. The kids are settling into their new routine and seem to be alright with the “school” books I selected for them this year. Every year I ask them if they want to go back to public school, and every year they politely decline. They have become hooked on freedom, apparently! It’s the cats that I have been losing sleep over.

The only cat that didn’t get sick this week is the one who hardly ever comes home (she seems to think that she is the neighbor’s cat). Everyone else had stopped eating, and became listless, and “The Kitty Family” of three (mother & father cat and their year and a half old baby) got some kind of scabby rash on and under their noses – none of them wanted to be touched and spent much of the week hiding in the ceiling of my basement. My oldest cat, Zeke, is fifteen years old. I don’t think he has what the others got, I think he is just suddenly really feeling his age. All Zeke wants to do is sleep in the sun on the driveway or sleep cuddled next to me or my husband on the bed. I have a feeling that Zeke may be fixing to join dear friends and family on the other side of that famous bridge, you know, the rainbow one, some time soon. One kitty had a sore paw, which thankfully got better after a few days. None of the cats wanted cat food, even when I tried different kinds, so I finally gave them first the “juice” from people tuna cans and then they graduated to eating the actual tuna and the kitty family seems better – they came upstairs today and are friendly again. So I bought more people tuna for the cats.

I have been struggling all day trying to think of what to write about today and hit a complete mental block, so I figured I would just start writing about what was on mind, and what is on my mind are my pets. They are all wonderful friends and our lives are infinitely better for their company. If you are the kind of person who is willing to pray for animals, I’d sure appreciate it if you could send some words to the man upstairs for mine.

The world outside my little woodland shack continues to go on spinning, so here are some links to some things:

A Democratic Councilman in New Milford, Connecticut has been forced to resign after it became public knowledge that he is a “furry” fetishist who lists rape among the things he “tolerates” on an adult site for people who are into dressing up like cartoonish stuffed animals – often for sexual gratification.

Via NewsTimes:

NEW MILFORD — Town Council member Scott Chamberlain had never made a secret of his deep involvement in Furry Fandom, a subculture of adults who dress in mascot-like animal costumes, attend role-playing conventions and interact regularly online.

But an uproar ensued when a town resident posted on a community Facebook page several screenshots of Chamberlain’s profile from a private website catering to “furries,” many of whom participate in or write about unusual sexual practices. The profile includes a list of Chamberlain’s “loves,” “likes” and “hates,” some sexual in nature, but also said that he “tolerates” rape.

In an interview at midday Thursday, Chamberlain explained his involvement in the “furry” community as a harmless hobby.

“It’s nothing to do with sex; it’s an interest in cartoon animals,” said the first-term Democrat, who was up for re-election.

Riiight, he likes cartoons, that’s it and that’s all, except for the porn stories he wrote and published involving sexual adventures among people dressed as furries.

Chamberlain also writes what he calls a “soap opera” read by hundreds of users that includes furries in some sexual situations.

This is apparently what it takes to make people protest against a Democrat these days.

On Thursday night, as town Democrats held a previously scheduled opening ceremony of party headquarters on Bank Street, a small group of protesters gathered outside.

Among them was Rick Agee, the resident who had made the original Facebook post. He carried a sign saying, “No perverts running our town!”

”I have kids and grandkids in this town, and I don’t want him representing us,” Agee said.

And he’s gone:

Meanwhile, party officials removed a green sign saying, “Scott Chamberlain — New Milford Town Council” from the headquarters’ front window and peeled a Chamberlain bumper sticker from the glass door. Gronbach’s wife, Vanessa, ordered that a stack of Chamberlain bumper stickers be taken off the front table.

Democrat Scott Chamberlain is apparently pictured below, on the left (natch):

Whenever a Republican, at any level of government, is discovered to be an adulterer or some sort of other deviant, ALL Republicans are grilled about it and asked if they denounce said creep  – repeatedly – , so when do you think that Democrats on the national scene will be asked how they feel about the disgraced weirdo in Connecticut? My guess is it will happen at about half-past never.

“Hey baby, you got fries with that shake?” – some dopey guy to some random female walking past

Everylady and her mother has likely been the subject of catcalls at some point in her life. Some people can shrug it off, some can’t – some write articles complaining about it and some write articles complaining about the complainer. I expected, before reading the first article, that I’d find myself siding with the writer of the second, but after reading both I find myself agreeing and disagreeing with both.

Cosmo writer, Alex Berg, decided to keep a log of every time she got catcalled at by random men and what she thinks it means in the context of social justice (or whatever). Daily Caller contributor, Jena Greene, wrote an article fisking the Cosmo piece.

Greene mocks Berg for recalling the exact date, twenty years ago, when she was catcalled for the very first time, which seemed worthy of mocking until I saw in Berg’s article that the event was significant for her because she was only eleven years old and that she had also been groped.

Greene:

She starts with a fateful lede: “The summer of 2017 marked a less-than-illustrious anniversary for me. It’s been 20 years since I was first catcalled.”

Oh come on. I was expecting something like a 20 year anniversary since you were bitten by a shark or had to relocate because your house was swept away by a hurricane. Those are things worth mourning.

Marking the anniversary of your first catcalling is like marking the date you first had to wait in line for a public restroom. It stinks but everyone goes through it.

Berg:

But, I wasn’t nearly as shook up then as when I was catcalled and groped for the first time when I was just 11 years-old, waiting outside of a recreation center for my parents to pick me up from gymnastics practice.

And here I thought I was going to enjoy watching an SJW snowflake get melted for over-reacting to “microaggressions” and I find myself thinking I don’t blame Ms. Berg for feeling traumatized at all by the unwanted attention and assaults on her person.

Greene goes on to criticize Berg for what Berg says she had been wearing or doing during the incidents she had logged and suggests she find something better to do and cover herself up. She accuses Berg of being inflammatory, while flaming her.

Berg wrote of confronting some of the men hollering at her, and says she learned that some men were not aware that what they were doing was offensive and could make a person feel unsafe.

I never understood what would compel a man to shout stuff at strange women passing by about her appearance or what they’d like to do to her; do any of them actually expect that a lady is going to be impressed in a positive way to the point of wanting to date or hook up with them? What would they think if they saw some guy talking to their mother, wife, sister, or daughter in such a manner?

I agree with Greene that nearly all females deal with this garbage at some point or other and that there are bigger things to worry about in this life, but I also agree with Berg that it can feel intimidating. I give Berg credit for calling out some of the catcallers and making them think about what they are doing.

The title of Greene’s article sates that Berg’s article on catcalling “backfired” on her, but I don’t quite see it that way, which is a surprise to me since I generally disagree with the type of social commentary that can be found at places such as Cosmopolitan. In fact I never would have found that Cosmo article at all had it not been for the article criticizing it in The Daily Caller, so in that sense, I guess it is actually the DC post that “backfired”.

Another day, another sad story of the erasure of history to avoid “offending” the perpetually offended.

California’s first Catholic School, the 167 year old San Domenico School, has decided that images of the Blessed Mother and baby Jesus, along with statues of Saints on campus, might offend or “alienate” people, so they have got to go in order to make the school appear more “inclusive”.

Officials feared the statues of Jesus and Mary were alienating.
MarinIJ reported:

Removal of a number of statues and other smaller Catholic icons from the campus of San Domenico School in San Anselmo has raised concerns among some parents.

In an email to the school’s board of directors, Dominican Sisters of San Rafael and the head of school, Shannon Fitzpatrick objected to the removal of the statues and other steps the school has taken in an effort to make the school more inclusive.

“Articulating an inclusive foundation appears to mean letting go of San Domenico’s 167-year tradition as a Dominican Catholic school and being both afraid and ashamed to celebrate one’s heritage and beliefs,” wrote Fitzpatrick, whose 8-year-old son attends the school.

She added, “In our time here, the word ‘Catholic’ has been removed from the mission statement, sacraments were removed from the curriculum, the lower school curriculum was changed to world religions, the logo and colors were changed to be ‘less Catholic,’ and the uniform was changed to be less Catholic.”

Fox News has some more about this:

Kim Pipki, whose daughter left the school two years ago, told the newspaper that at the center of the uproar is a statue of Mary and baby Jesus that was featured in a ceremony where children would place a crown on her head.

“People were shocked that the statues were pitched in the basement,” she said.

But Pinkson told Fox News the statues were “temporarily stored in the downstairs of our library.”

Amy Skewes-Cox, who leads the school’s board of trustees, said at least 18 of the school’s 180 religious icons remain on the school’s grounds.

See that? Eighteen of the school’s 180 religious icons remain – so they have eliminated NINETY PERCENT of the Catholic imagery at this Catholic school. Wouldn’t want to offend anyone by being too Catholic at a Catholic school, huh?
