OK you’re the Democrats hoping to create a blue wave. You have spent two years insisting that Donald Trump is evil incarnate and last week the entire MSM and parts of the deep state have insisted that Donald Trump is a traitor but your message doesn’t seem to be resonating with the voters in the swing districts you need to take the house, the Senate map is an impossibility and the new Supreme Court vacancy can’t help but get conservative voter to turn out for senate races. Even worse the economy continues to zoom along raising all boats, including black and “Hispanic” voters who remember the lean years under Obama.

You have one thing going for you however, your base is energized and angry, so as long as your opponents are not you just might be able to turn out enough voters in enough districts to make things work out.

So to claim a victory in the house and declare a mandate however shakey, all you have to do is make sure that the very patriotic working class white voters in the swing house districts who turned out for Donald Trump are not affected by key senate races, are not energized to vote for the GOP on election day, particularly not by anyone who is viewed as allies of their faces in congress:

and we especially don’t want them to be seen muscling folks:

Because the last thing we need is one of the faces of the party having to disavow supporters burning US flags:

U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters said that the counterprotesters who burned and stomped on an American flag outside her California office this week, while exercising their right to express themselves, were also acting to further “their own agenda.”

And the only thing worse than the face of our leaders having to disavow our friends burning flags is to have the whole NFL kneeling stuff blow up during the season around election time to the consternation of the fans.

The NFL and National Football League Players Association have agreed to halt enforcement of rules regarding the new national anthem policy while the two sides work on a resolution.

The league and its players union issued a joint statement late Thursday, hours after The Associated Press reported that Miami Dolphins players who protest on the field during the anthem could be suspended for up to four games under a team policy issued this week.

because that would give Trump a chance to respond

US President Donald Trump again goaded the NFL over its handling of controversial national anthem protests on Friday, a day after the league said it would hold off on enforcing a new policy.

“The NFL National Anthem Debate is alive and well again – can’t believe it!,” Trump tweeted.

“Isn’t it in contract that players must stand at attention, hand on heart? The $40,000,000 Commissioner must now make a stand.

and this would keep the story alive all the way though election day and that will be the end of the big blue wave.

and finally with Immigration the biggest issue according voters we certainly don’t want sitting senators talking about abolishing ICE

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) said Sunday that the “first thing” Democrats should do if they flip the House and Senate is to “get rid of” Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“So when we flip the House and flip the Senate, I think the first thing we should do is deal with the children who have been separated from their families at the border. I think we should get rid of ICE,” Sen. Gillibrand said at New York City’s OZY Fest 2018.

I mean cripes the only thing worse for us would be if they were talking gun control or more socialized medicine:

Gillibrand wants to push through a whole package of gun-control laws, including one aimed at something called “large magazine clips.” It’s great to see ignorance so enthusiastically on display in public by elected officials, right? Then, after acknowledging that the federal government takeover of health insurance markets failed badly in ObamaCare, Gillibrand then advises that Democrats want the federal government to take the whole thing over with “Medicare for All.”

But lucky for the Democrats Trump’s enemies certainly aren’t stupid enough to do and say stuff like this are they?

Since Donald J. Trump’s upset win in 2016 over Hillary Clinton–who after the election the left-wing media belatedly informed us was a flawed candidate–we’ve been bombarded with story after story that the president is either colluding with Russia or is weak in dealing with it.

But the Democrats have a decades-long history of failure involving Russia and the Soviet Union, which is something Mark Levin reminded me last week, as the media spewed venom after Trump’s summit with Russian president Vladimir Putin last week.

Here are some of those fiascos.

At the Yalta Conference in 1945, Franklin D. Roosevelt, historically the most popular president among Democrats, signed over most of the eastern Europe to the Soviet Union, including Poland. It was the invasion of that nation by the Nazis that led France and Great Britain to declare war on Germany.

Graffiti in Latvia

While campaigning for a full presidential term in 1948 Truman said, “I got very well acquainted with Joe Stalin, and I like old Joe! He is a decent fellow. But Joe is a prisoner of the Politburo.”

Many Democrats still celebrate the memories of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, who gave away atomic bomb secrets to the USSR. They were executed for treason in 1953. Alger Hiss, a State Department official, was convicted of perjury three years earlier. Many Dems revere his memory too. After opening up Soviet archives in the 1990s, it was discovered that indeed all three were Soviet agents, and yes, traitors.

“He savaged me.” is what John F. Kennedy said of Nikita Khrushchev after a two-day summit in 1961. The Soviet leader judged JFK as weak, two months later the communists began building the Berlin Wall. The following year the Soviets commenced building a missile base in Cuba, which led to the Cuban Missile Crisis, which nearly started a nuclear war.

Amazingly, the Democrats’ “Lion of the Senate,” JFK’s brother Ted Kennedy, hadn’t learned his lesson after being thumped in the Democratic primaries at the hands of incumbent president Jimmy Carter in 1980. The peanut farmer was trounced in a landslide in the general election later that year. Yet Kennedy was considering challenging Reagan in 1984. His plan was to–wait for it–collude! Teddy would aid Soviet leader Yuri Andropov in confronting Reagan–and the leader of the Evil Empire would assist Kennedy in facing off against the Gipper.

Barack Obama’s feckless response to the Syrian Civil War allowed Russia to gain a foothold in that troubled nation. After Syria’s dictator Bashar al-Assad crossed Obama’s “red line” on the use of chemical weapons, Obama did nothing.

Shortly after becoming secretary of state, Hillary Clinton presented a “reset” button to Russian counterpart, signifying a new start to relations between our countries.

Bonus round:

The Democrats’ favorite newspaper is the New York Times. Its Moscow correspondent in the 1920s and 1930s, Walter Duranty, received a Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of Stalin’s USSR. But not only did Duranty fail to report on the famine in the Soviet Union in the early 1930s, he claimed such stories about it were untrue. But Duranty knew that as many as 10 million people starved to death during the famine, which as a direct result of Stalin’s barbaric policies. The proliferation of fake news is not a recent development.

John Ruberry regularly blogs at Marathon Pundit. His wife was born in the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic.

We are in the 4th day of a complete media talking heads meltdown over the Trump Summit with Putin.

I had thought actually that it has produced one of the few errors of the Trump administration, not the original remarks mind you but the clarification.

It was my thought that there was no percentage in it, after all it’s quite apparent that while some of the conservatives who were upset at his remarks were pacified, the left’s continued unabated calling his remarks inadequate and trying to use it as club against him and his policies.

This proved once again that Trump is a better media guy that me, because it’s precisely that overreaction that is a Godsend to him.

Here’s a test. Leave DC or New York, drive a few hours out to America, find a random guy on the street and ask, “Hey, don’t you think it’s awful that Trump wants our allies to increase their contributions to their own defense to just about half of what the U.S. pays?” You can safely assume he’ll respond, “Wait, why only half?”

That’s Kurt Schlichter noting that Trump’s demands on Nato that completely freaked out the left sound pretty reasonable to normal people, in fact a lot more reasonable that what his foes are saying:

On MSNBC, where illiterate histrionic analogies litter coverage every day, a contributor compared Donald Trump’s meeting in Helsinki with Vladimir Putin to Pearl Harbor and Kristallnacht, just to be safe.

Social media is teeming with similar hyperbole — “treason,” “traitor,” etc . — and not just from anonymous trolls. It’s difficult to accept anyone with a working brain actually believes this rhetoric, and they certainly don’t act like it. But if well-heeled pundits keep telling everyone The Fourth Reich is imminent before retiring to their townhouses in Capitol Hill every night,

The problem of with this narrative of course is the last sentence when the people insisting that Trump is a Nazi and that the world is about to end are able to go home in complete safety unafraid of retaliation for taking on someone who is only worse than Hitler in that he’s really crappy at being Hitler who would have already executed and silenced his critics by now.

But that’s why Trump keeps winning, you can’t spend two years screaming that the world is going end at a time when the economy is booming and people are doing great. If you to that you get one or both of these results.

People think your crazy

People ignore you

The latter was illustrated during Tim Blair’s latest US trip

Anyone who has not visited the US since Trump’s hilarious 2016 victory over Hillary Clinton might be surprised by the utter absence there of Trump in daily life. Everyday Americans are mostly just getting on with things, as normal, non-obsessive people tend to do. The apparent civil war we keep hearing about just isn’t happening.

Of course, certain precautions must be taken to avoid being drawn into a vortex of anti-Trump mania. During my visit I carefully avoided tiny outposts of Trump fixation, including Hollywood celebrity households, the offices of any former Clinton staffers and newsrooms at the New York Times, CNN, the Washington Post and MSNBC.

In fact he discovered that if you don’t go to places like college campuses at stick with areas where things are actually made and done, the president isn’t really a topic of conversation:

If people from either side of the alleged Trump divide wished to speak out, I was there to hear them.

Except that nobody wanted to talk about Trump, Clinton or politics in general. This wasn’t due to apathy or lack of engagement. It was because there are more interesting topics of conversation, such as, well, just about everything. Work. Family. Sport. Music. Weather. Cars. Food. The semi-trailer carrying a few tons of bourbon that crashed and caught fireon the interstate. You know, topics people care about outside of election years.

Or put simply people were more interested in reality than what the media cared about and the louder they shout the more they are ignored.

Put simply Trump has taken the left/college/media/entertainment bubble that they all live in and managed to reinforce it to the point where they not only can’t seem to get out of it but he’s managed to sound proof it to the point where you have a bunch of people essentially talking to themselves.

And while that might keep people in the beltway in wine, steaks and oysters I suspect it’s not going to win a lot of votes in November.

  1. You will likely be able to count the number of votes Trump will lose over it on the fingers of one hand.
  2. Any GOP House or Senate candidate not named Romney who goes with the MSM spin is doing him or her self more harm than good.

Don Surber put it best:

Forget facts. Look at how this reaction to the press conference plays at home.

Once again, President Trump makes his critics sound like kooks, because they are.

I’m old enough to remember when an MSM freakout could break a GOP president, now we just point at them and laugh

Every time there is a Supreme Court vacancy under a Republican president, the Left panics, at least since 1973, when Roe v. Wade was erroneously decided, inventing a supposed right to abortion that is nowhere in the Constitution. With the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, the pattern continues. We all know that this panic stems from the fact that the Left, when they control the courts, uses their power to push their progressive agenda on society when they can’t win at the ballot box, so they are afraid that our side will also use the courts to push our conservative agenda in just as underhanded a way as they do. There is one critical difference, however. Conservatives do not make things up. We adhere to the Constitution so any societal change that comes from a conservative SCOTUS is actually bringing society back in line with the Constitution, not some made up progressive vision of what society ought to be.

The disingenuous tactic most often used by the Left is the concept of stare decisis, which is Latin for “to stand by that which is decided.” Practically speaking, the Left considers it to mean “Thou shalt not overturn Roe v. Wade.” And in all the sound and fury about stare decisis, they often point out that this constitutional abomination is some kind of “super precedent” that absolutely must be upheld because it has been on the books for over 45 years. You can bet that their argument that Obergefell v. Hodges (the gay “marriage” decision) can’t be overturned will be because it was just decided and SCOTUS can’t overrule itself that quickly. Convenient that two completely opposing arguments can be made for the same rule, “SCOTUS shall not overturn any decision that we like.” It’s the same tactic they use about global warming climate change, but I digress.

It turns out that Obergefell itself overturned Baker v. Nelson, which was decided in 1972, a year before Roe, so it should have been at least as strong a precedent as Roe. And Brown v. Board of Education (1954) overturned Plessy v. Ferguson, which was decided 58 years previously (1896). Just for fun, let’s take a look at Trump v. Hawaii, the “travel ban” case that was just decided this term. Aside from making liberal heads explode by ruling in favor of President Trump, the decision also overturned Korematsu v. United States (1944), the Japanese internment decision from 74 years previously. Presumably the Left agrees with everyone else that Korematsu should have been overturned.

Actually, the controlling precedent on abortion is Planned Parenthood v. Casey, from 1992. As I’ve written before, this decision should be overturned if for no other reason than to strike the execrable “Sweet Mystery of Life” passage from the American legal lexicon (don’t let the door hit you on your way out, Justice Kennedy). But is 27 years enough time to make Casey a supposed “super precedent”?

Here’s what it comes down to: The Left can use “emanations” and “penumbras” to make up constitutional rights out of whole cloth and then hide behind stare decisis, effectively claiming a ratchet effect towards their progressive vision for our country. We on the right can use the actual text of the Constitution to bring things back to where they should be. With President Trump replacing Anthony Kennedy with Brett Kavanaugh, we have an opportunity to make that happen. I’m not wishing ill on any other member of the Court, but there is a chance we will be in even better position to do so in the coming years. Let’s hope that President Trump will continue to nominate strong conservatives and that the Justices have the courage to make it happen.

by baldilocks

Among the alleged missteps that President Trump made — note the word alleged — during his trip to the United Kingdom, one of them brings up a memory I have about Trump’s predecessor.

Donald Trump sparks fury posing arrogantly in an armchair used by heroic wartime leader Winston Churchill.

Critics slammed Trump for a string of diplomatic blunders and said he wasn’t fit to sit there. (…)

Labour’s Stephen Doughty said: “An image of Donald Trump sitting in Churchill’s seat will stick in the throats of many Brits who would consider Trump not only to be one of the worst presidents in US history but also not even worthy of a comparison with our wartime leader who rescued our nation in its darkest hour.”

“Given Trump’s appalling actions and rhetoric, he doesn’t even deserve to look at a statue of Churchill let alone sit in his seat.”

The outrage is interesting, since I don’t recall any commentary from members of the UK Parliament when then President Barack Obama removed a bust of Churchill from the Oval Office.

There are many stories about how the bust what treated during President Obama’s terms. First, the story was that the bust was handed back to the Brits. Here, however, the former president says it was placed in the White House Residence — the Treaty Room. That’s more plausible for reasons I will give in a bit.

Back when there was quite a bit of outrage on this side of the pond from the right about Obama’s treatment of the bust, I postulated that he disliked Churchill because of the former prime minister’s role in putting down Kenya’s Mau-Mau Rebellion back when Kenya was a British colony called British East Africa.

The former president and I are both half-Kenyan Luo and since he is inclined to hold grudges especially of the racial variety, I figured out that this was why he hated Churchill. If you ask me, President Obama hates all the Brits. He wasn’t shy about showing his contempt for any of them, from the Queen on down.

But it was only 2009 and we were just beginning to get to know Barack Obama.

In the wake of the bust incident, few in the British press were talking about how the former president was endangering relations between the USA and the UK or about how gauche it was to treat a gift between nations in the manner specified.

Then, last year, it was reported that newly inaugurated President Trump returned the bust to the Oval Office.

So we see that, to the British press, it’s insulting for one president to sit in Winston Churchill’s chair but when another president gives a bust of Churchill an unceremonious heave-ho, it’s no big deal.

This hypocrisy on the part of the British press is certainly no surprise — we see it all the time with our press — but it needed to be pointed out. And what does it mean?

Nothing complicated. President Obama tried to destroy the USA; President Trump is trying to save it. One might also say the same things about both presidents with respect to the West in general.

The British press was and is merely signaling which side it’s on.

During the Presidential campaign Donald Trump came to Worcester and though I had to be at work for 10:30 PM that night I went and covered the event.

For a week there had been a bunch of buzz about the event and people of the left in deep blue Massachusetts assured people that Donald Trump’s rally in the deep blue 2nd largest city in New England, a city with not one, not two but TEN colleges in it would draw a huge amount of protesters so I was determined to get down there to see and report myself.

I discovered that the one thing missing from the promised massive protest was protesters.

The doors had just opened and people were filing in but the press entrance was in the back so I went around seeing a pair of guys selling buttons and a small group of protestors, around 10-15 some of whom were being interviewed.
Now granted that it was early but Worcester is the 2nd biggest city in New England, and a Democrat and Union Stronghold it was kind of pathetic.

I commented on this and one of the women shouted back “some of us have to work you know.” I wasn’t aware that Governor Baker was so successful that millions of Democrats were now gainfully employed that were not just a year ago. Given the buildup for days it was a joke almost as bad as the drawing 200 in NYC the largest city in the nation.

During the press availability I asked then candidate Trump about this lack of promised protesters.

His complementary line graces my business card which doesn’t make me a lot of friends in Massachusetts.

Well apparently in Brussels where they were expecting thousands to protest President Donald Trump last week history repeated itself:

But only a couple of dozen people actually showed up.

“Euro News’ Damon Embling reported that organizers were expecting a few thousand people to attend the protest, but just a few dozen turned out,” NTK Network reported.

The protesters were rallying around the slogan “Make Peace Great Again,” a play on Trump’s 2016 campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”

Embling asked one of the organizers why only a couple dozen demonstrators showed up at the protest.

“I think it’s, what went wrong is not the good question to ask,” the clearly frustrated organizer said.

The organizer blamed Brussels being on lockdown for the low turnout before Embling ended the interview.

Alas I was not there to ask him about the lack of protesters I think his response would be newsworthy, but I seriously doubt that anyone in the MSM would dare ask such a question that might expose their readers and viewers to this reality.

Oh and that supposedly massive balloon?  That was a bust too.

By John Ruberry

Until the latest leftist outrage—the need to eliminate Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)–the gripe about President Donald J. Trump was that he is the leader of a cult.

It all started when outgoing US Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) said that his party was in a “cult-like situation” over Trump.

The left-wing media pounced on the remark and ran with it.

Not surprisingly there is a personality cult in American politics and of course it involves the left, which invented what Nikita Khrushchev condemned as “the cult of personality” that surrounded Joseph Stalin, and it’s centered on Barack Obama.

The sheep in Orwell’s 1984 chanted “All animals are equal” and the Obama minions chanted “Yes we can.”

Especially during the 2008 presidential campaign, Obama followers would speak of an Obama-way-to-do-this and ask “What does Obama think about that?” The Obama campaign “O” symbol served as a 21st-century version of the Soviet hammer-and-sickle. The mainstream media was along for the ride. The best example was the “God of All Things” cover on Newsweak. oops, make that Newsweek.

The Is Barack Obama the Messiah? blog did a stupendous job collecting worshipful images from the Obama cult.

But like most demagogues, Obama stunted the next generation of leadership. So the Obama cult continues. Although he hasn’t really gone away, Democrats are clamoring for Obama’s return, in a sort-of leftist version of Joseph Campbell’s hero journey, which will end, Beowulf-like, when Obama slays the orange-haired dragon–the Russian usurper!–and completes the work of his presidency by eliminating private-sector health care, instituting an open borders policy, and of course shutting down Fox News.

As for “the Trump cult,” many backers of the president were furious with him–including myself–when Trump signed into law the fiscal 2019 budget. And if Trump commutes the prison sentence of former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, I’ll be angry with him over that.

There is no Trump cult.

UPDATE 7/19/18: Oops. I meant to write Orwell’s Animal Farm up above, not 1984. My mind was on my upcoming vacation when I wrote this post!

John Ruberry regularly blogs at Marathon Pundit.

As the economy continues to improve and wins keep coming in foreign policy it seems clear that the left fear that Trump would succeed was justified and that drastic action was necessary.

Since the last election the left has gone all out to paint not just Donald Trump but members of his administration and voters as evil incarnate, a bunch of Nazis etc etc etc (This wasn’t always the case, there was a time when there were living Democrats who had actually fought real life Nazis and knew better but they have died out but I digress…) and concluded that any tactic was acceptable to bring Donald Trump down.

These tactics which resulted in the Red Hen Scandal, and yes it is a scandal that for political reasons a person can be denied service at a restaurant, is masking something more important. The fact that all of these tactics, no matter how dramatic are failing miserably and thus the next step has to be taken.

I submit and suggest that the left has decided now that Justice Kennedy is retiring that drastic action can turn people away from Trump.

In other words they want a Kent State, they need a violent confrontation which leaves people dead that Trump can be blamed for.

The problem of course is generating one.

You need two things to make it work People willing to shoot. Unfortunately for the left Trump, being as media savvy as he is, is not likely to provide them with one, so the target has to be an average Trump voter made to fear for his life.

But even more important than that you need a victim willing to put him or herself in a position to get killed.

That’s where you, dear sucker of the left ,come in.

You will be sold the idea of Trump supporters as Nazis, as people ready to commit all kinds of atrocities against mankind and the complete lack of such atrocities will not be considered evidence that it’s not coming while at the same time underselling the risk of convincing an armed person that you mean them or theirs harm. They will encourage you to push, and the push and the push and you won’t realize the danger until the target of the rage that your professors, your fellow protesters and those courageous lions of the keyboard encouraged you to confront decides their life is on the line and fires.

That is the moment that the professional left, the media and the Democrats in congress are dreaming of, the moment when you go from being a useful idiot to an even more useful Martyr to the cause.

The Professional left will hold up pictures of you in march after march calling you a martyr to the cause of freedom.

The media will cover the details of your short life nonstop, it will talk to your grieving friends, families and fellow travelers about what a great person you were on camera and pundits in every major newspaper will opine about the injustice that such a promising life was cut short.

The Democrat party will run ad after ad talking about you as proof that Trump voters in General and Donald Trump in particular are Nazis and the only way to stop them is to vote Democrat.

Of course you might have some objection to being used as cannon fodder for the financial and electoral power of those who don’t care one bit about you, but fortunately for you by this time you will be too busy being dead to register it.

Far be it from me to use my white male heterosexual privilege to tell those younger and far more woke than me what to do but I submit and suggest that it might be a good idea to recognize that you are being played by people who don’t care about you, your life or your future.

Plus even if you were deluded enough to think it’s a good idea to set yourself up to get shot to stop Trump, it won’t work, but that’s yet another post for another day.

If you really want to understand why our friends on the left are going as violently mad as they are you can’t do better than what Larry Schweikart found in the latest 538 poll

Do you see what those numbers say? Larry does.

Particularly these numbers on “hispanics”

(incidentally “Hispanics” is in quotes because it refers to the mythical land of “Hispanica” as referenced in this post about the Massachusetts Senate Special election of a few years ago).

And remember these number are BEFORE Democrats publicly decided segregation at restaurants was a good thing

To me this confirmed what old friend Kurt Schlichter wrote Monday concerning their options:

That leaves them only violence. We’ve already seen it, and you can sense that it’s only a matter of time before the liberals openly embrace it. They have set the conditions for it. They have dehumanized the opposition, that is, us. Their lesser tactics aren’t working. The lies no longer resonate because we Normals are woke – the polls indicate that most Americans greeted the whole kids in cages fraud with a collective shrug. Criminals separated from their kids? Doesn’t that happen every day? It would sure happen to us if we broke the law, since we aren’t the Democrats’ Great Foreign Hope for a future electorate that is pliable and obedient.

Intimidation isn’t working. It makes the libs quiver with joy, but it just makes us mad. Getting your opponent riled up is a poor strategy, especially at the ballot box. Mad people tend to retaliate. November is coming, and we all fully understand that every middle finger selfie, every vicious tweet, every assault on a conservative diner, is an attack on us.

And while a George Will, anxious to be able to enjoy fine dining without incidents from angry leftists, will play along with this stuff, most Trump voters who realize the “new rules” target them where they live will not.

The irony in all of this is if the left had not gone mad and had decided to fight the President on the legislative field where he is the least experienced rather than in the media field where is the strongest they might have made progress against him, but they quickly discovered you could get more clicks, higher rating and raise more money by encouraging the mob so they did.

This isn’t working out too well because just as the right thing is usually the smart thing the wrong thing: Working people into a frenzy for short term profit, is turning out to be the dumb thing.

Attacking the survivor of a political assassination attempt as a “Nazi puke” for daring to suggest that civility and respect are the better option does not win over GOP and independent voters needed to win elections and as the President has indicated suggesting pols you dislike should be visited by mobs might end poorly, particularly if your political opponents are well armed.

But alas for the left they’ve whipped up their own people so badly that when even Nancy Pelosi mildly suggests that chasing people out of restaurants and public spaces she gets pummeled by her own side and God forbid that you suggest it’s a dumb move politically like Axelrod did. Out of the Woke Arms they must go!

In the end somebody is going to end up killed and I suspect that person is not going to be a person of the right but one of the left, but I also suspect they consider that a feature rather than a bug, but that’s tomorrow’s post.
