Great point, Peter.

The (larger? other?) issue is that this makes conservatism relevant. We’ve been saying for years that the government shouldn’t have this much power, shouldn’t be making so many laws, and shouldn’t be able to arbitrarily impose massive fines. But young people whose eyes glazed over at the Martha Stewart insider-trading case will suddenly see themselves in this particular case.

Suddenly, “We have to pass this bill to find out what is in it” becomes scary, in a “wow, that could happen to me” sense, not a “will those policy wonks stop jabbering about arcane theories and go back to their actual lives?” way.
