I understand the sentiment behind this post suggesting Amazon choose St. Louis for their second corporate HQ

A particularly compelling pick, according to my extremely nonscientific “what’s good for America” metric, might be St. Louis — a once-great metropolis fallen on hard times, the major urban center for a large spread of Trump country, the geographic center of the country and the historic bridge between East and West.

and I agree with the idea that it would be a good idea to get out of deep blue America and the mindset therein.

But why on earth would any company like Amazon decide to put itself in a city that is becoming riot cental and make it self a target for those from Mizzou to Ferguson in the Black Lives Matter mob who want to go after the system?

After the spasm of violence ended, a reporter for The Associated Press found at least half of the businesses on one side of the street with broken windows along a two block area.

Sam Thomas, who was helping his friend clean up the glass from the shattered windows of his business, OSO, a clothing and accessories boutique, said he understands why people are angry. The U.S. justice system is broken and needs to be fixed, he said.

“I’m not saying this is the right way to fix it,” he said of the damage.

Just as Mizzou and other colleges are discovering that people don’t want to invest tens of thousands of dollars to put their children in the middle of a social justice nightmare, no company with any sense will put itself in a city where the potential to be extorted or threatened with violence if they don’t play along with an agenda (even one endorsed by the owner) is present and no workforce will be all that anxious to head to the area when even the suburbs are being targeted:

Demonstrators shouted slogans such as “black lives matter” and “it is our duty to fight for our freedom” as they marched through West County Center mall in the city of Des Peres, west of St. Louis. A group also demonstrated at Chesterfield Mall in the suburbs and at a regional food festival.

Organizers took their grievances to the suburbs Saturday to spread the impact of the protests beyond predominantly black neighborhoods to those that are mainly white.

“I don’t think racism is going to change in America until people get uncomfortable,” said Kayla Reed of the St. Louis Action Council, a protest organizer.

Well Kayla your achievement is unlocked, your heckler’s veto will guarantee that the people at a company like Amazon will be too uncomfortable to move jobs an infastructure anywhere near you, particularly when there are other worthy alternatives that would meet the goals Mr. Douthat is suggesting.

Closing thought directed to the BLM rioters: While your attacks and riots will produce less jobs, less business less investment and consequently less of a chance for the young men in your community to overcome the disadvantages they have, you can be take comfort in the fact that your actions will definitely produce more votes for conservatives all around the nation in every level of government.

That’s our veto.

If I was Donald Trump or the head of the RNC that’s the Press Release I would be issuing in English and spanish. The Spanish version saying:

Periódico propiedad de Amazon.com ataca al culto de Nuestra Sra. de Guadalupe durante la época Navideña

after seeing this Headline at the Washington Post.

Our culture of purity celebrates the Virgin Mary. As a rape victim, that hurts me.

Yes you’re reading that right.

That a protestant reverend is going after the very first Christian, who said “Yes” to God makes it even more ironic.

Of course if you don’t like my suggest press release or don’t want to hit Amazon which might claim they have no editorial control you could go with this in English:

“Washington Post attacks devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe during the week of her feast”

Or in spanish:

“El Washington Post ataca a Nuestra Sra. de Guadalupe en la semana de su Fiesta”

The best part of such a PR release is it has the virtue of being true.

Oh and I’d repeat this is Spanish during the feast of Our Lady of divine providence (Nuestra Senora de la divina providencia) patron of Puerto Rico and the feast of Our Lady of Altagracia (Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia) the patron of the Dominican Republic too.

You know perhaps if the MSM had at least one or two  devout daily mass Catholics they might have figured out this was a bad idea.

I’d suggest praying for the Reverend Everheart for relief of her trauma and ask Our Lady to help her, The Memorare would be appropriate:

REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

You can do the same for the editors at the Post and the folks at Amazon, you might think they are beyond Help but with God all things are possible.

My thanks to Fausta for the Spanish translations.

All over TV today we saw Walmart declaring they were pulling the confederate flag because it was a symbol of hate, slavery and many were offended by it.

eBay, Sears, and Amazon quickly followed suit in pulling items with the rebel battle flag.

Now while no honest person will deny what the Reb flag meant to black Americans (and not just during the Civil War but during the years of Jim Crow & the civil rights battle) and can understand why these companies would want to remove a symbol involved with slavery & Murder Imagine my surprise when I went online & found this:

ussr1

and this:

che1

and this at WalMart’s site:

soviet2

and Amazon

soviet3

Now there are millions of people who were slain under these banners, and hundreds of millions in many countries enslaved under them.  There are tens if not hundreds of thousands of Americans alive today who escaped the bearers of these flags and those who operated in their name.  In my first job out of college I worked with a man who escaped the Soviet Union and even today people in Ukraine are suffering thank to a Russian Leader who once proudly served under these flags.

So this begs two questions one of which I already asked:

#1.  Given that Walmart & others have removed the Confederate Flag from their sites because of its historic connection to slavery that gives offense, how do they justify continuing to carry these products when hundreds of thousands have living memory of the atrocities committed in their name including the deaths of tens of millions?

#2  Given the media publicity concerning the removal of the Confederate Flag items from these stores will the MSM,  particularly CNN directly question if WalMart, Sears, Amazon and eBay will be as diligent in removing these offensive items, and if the companies equivocate in any way will they ask why the tens of millions who died and the hundreds of millions who were enslaved IN LIVING MEMORY these things do not demand their removal?

Or must we wait until the 21st century when the Cold War has been over for 150 years for their removal?

Update: Ed Driscoll at Instapundit:

“I wouldn’t put Confederate kitsch up in my house, but mainstream media figure Claire Shipman and former Obama press secretary Jay Carney put up Communist kitsch in their house. There is something intriguing about how the elite left tolerates art celebrating those who killed 100 million people in the last century, but seeks the erasure of anything associated with the Confederacy.”

Today I begin my first day as a regular blogger at The Minority Report.

I will generally be blogging on Business and Tech issues but you may see the occasional interview online as well.

Today’s post Killing the small business in the cradle is on small businessmen and the effect of a new law in Illinois on their well-being:

As regular readers of my blog know, I spend a lot of time going door to door talking to business people in order to sell ads for my radio show (DaTechGuy on DaRadio Saturday Mornings 10 a.m. on WCRN AM 830 BTW).

With the economy in trouble nationwide and jobs scarce to come by, many people (including me) have decided to go into business for themselves. Just yesterday I met a lady at a cleaners shop in Acton who is painting silk scarfs as a new business while she looks for other work.

Small Entrepreneurs usually have it tough. One or two person operations put in an inordinate amount of labor to make a small amount of money (if any). In addition they have to follow all the governmental rules that are put before them as they attempt to get started….

This story was the epitome of bad timing for Amazon.com:

WikiLeaks, the website that published a quarter-million sensitive diplomatic cables on Sunday, is using Amazon.com Inc. servers in the U.S. to help deliver its information. It sounds like an odd choice, but it could make sense.

The site cablegate.wikileaks.org, which WikiLeaks is using for the diplomatic documents, is linked to servers run by Amazon Web Services in Seattle, as well as to French company Octopuce. Wikileaks.org, the site’s front page, links back to Amazon servers in the U.S. and in Ireland. Several Internet watchers, including technologist Alex Norcliffe, reported earlier on WikiLeaks’ use of Amazon services.

Amazon and WikiLeaks did not return requests for comment.

Well isn’t that the news you wanted to hear at Christmastime if you are THE online retailer? Apparently not:

Amazon.com Inc. forced WikiLeaks to stop using the U.S. company’s computers to distribute embarrassing State Department communications and other documents, WikiLeaks said Wednesday.

The ouster came after congressional staff had questioned Amazon about its relationship with WikiLeaks, said Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent from Connecticut.

Hot air had a question:

I find that hard to believe given the amount of traffic that must have been flooding in, but then I also find it hard to believe that Amazon wouldn’t have dumped them instantly had they known lest a U.S. boycotts cripple their Christmas sales season.

With the kind of volume that Amazon has Wiki leaks is a blip on the screen, I’ll wager if it hadn’t been dug up by someone they never would have noticed.

I did all my Christmas Shopping on Thanksgiving morning. Because of the sources of all the stuff they are coming in 6 different shipments.

In the last 48 hours even though I choose super saver shipping EVERY ONE OF MY ORDERS HAS SHIPPED!

That will make my Christmas very Merry, I’ll have to wrap em all this week while the family is at school. I also have to decide where to put em since we usually get the tree around the 3rd week of Advent.

But Great Job amazon, thanks muchly!
