Both Fausta and I have written about the upcoming Puerto Rico Day Parade in which the organizers, not content to have the island in the news for fiscal bankruptcy decided to add moral bankruptcy to the list by honoring an unrepentant terrorist bombmaker involved in the killing and maiming of Americans.

Fausta noted the long list of those who had pulled out over the honoring of the Terrorist whose sentence was commuted by Obama and I added that the Manchester Bombing had augmented the list by turning on the heat for companies who, in my opinion were not so much bothered by the terrorist as but considered their association with one right after a bunch of kids getting blown up for watching a concert bad for their bottom line.

You can add Andrew Cuomo, the son of Mario the Pious, to that list as well:

“The governor’s support and long-term affection for the Puerto Rican community remains unwavering. Unfortunately, he will not be marching in this year’s parade,” Cuomo’s spokeswoman, Dani Lever, said without elaborating.

and WNBC and Telemundo too

Both WNBC and WNJU hold a long-standing commitment to the Tri-State’s Puerto Rican community, a fact exemplified through our continued support for the National Puerto Rican Day Parade’s scholarship program. Our stations have decided to limit this year’s support to the Parade’s scholarship program, and have respectfully informed the committee that we will not be participating in the 2017 Parade,” they said in a statement.

as did Univision who, like Cuomo, WNBC and Telemundo didn’t bother to give the reason why they or the others had left in their report Newsbusters tells the tale:

Univision’s newscasts hadn’t said a peep about the exodus of parade sponsors since Goya Foods first jumped ship last week and now, all of a sudden, multiple sponsors are suddenly out. Viewers are left to assume that these major sponsors just randomly abandoned the Parade, without any context whatsoever as to why…But López Rivera’s name is mentioned nowhere in the report. Embarrassingly, Univision preferred to leave that knowledge gap unfilled, rather than to admit it had made a mistake by giving so much airtime to the public rehabilitation of a convicted terrorist.

Of course in fairness to Univision and Telemundo Reuters also decided to whitewash that little old bombmaker:

Sponsors have been fleeing next month’s National Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City since organizers decided to honor an activist recently freed after more than three decades in prison for ties to a nationalist group that carried out more than 100 bombings in the 1970s and 1980s.

Oscar Lopez Rivera, 74, was convicted in 1981 of numerous charges, along with other members of the Armed Forces of National Liberation (FALN), who sought to secure Puerto Rican independence from the United States.

The Terrorist becomes a “nationalist” and rather than mention the bombmaking he is convicted of “numerous charges”

But in the end no matter how many others decide, for whatever reason, they don’t want the blood on Lopez’s hands staining them one man still stands alone in support.

Bill De Blasio

“The organization he was affiliated with did things I don’t agree with, obviously, and they were illegal,” the mayor said at a press conference this week. “I don’t agree with the way he did it. But he did serve his time,” adding that López Rivera “renounced violence.”

He did? Here is what López Rivera, quoted in yesterday’s New York Times, said upon his release from a halfway house in Puerto Rico on Wednesday: “We are a colonized people, and according to international law, that says all colonized people have a right to struggle for its independence, using all methods within reach, including force.”

And outrage by the surviving victims of Lopez’s actions notwithstanding this hasn’t hurt him and might in fact have helped him.

Mayor Bill de Blasio’s approval rating has just ballooned to 60 percent, up 10 percent since February. The latest Quinnipiac poll also tells us he’s likely to handily trounce his opponents for re-election.

Which only goes to show that all politics is local.

Coke, The Yankees, Jet Blue, Goya, Univision and Telemundo are all national and international companies that whose business models extend far beyond the confines of New York City and can’t be openly associating themselves with a terrorist bomber no matter how popular he might be in a loud niche market in a particular city

But in the end Bill De Blasio’s ambitions for elected office, are confined to the five boroughs of NYC, so even if a million citizens, including those who keep the city safe, object strongly, they are dwarfed by the multiple millions of liberal leftists who either don’t know, don’t care or approve of Lopez’s terrorism.

No amount of public shaming will move a man with no shame.

Exit Question: Since Andrew Cuomo’s is electorally dependent on huge margins in the city can we assume that his decision to pull out means he still has national ambitions?

If you are not in the position to kick in your funds we’ll always accept your prayers.

Yesterday afternoon while people were busy protesting against police at the Mall of America two police officers in Brooklyn were murdered execution style.

They were not in the process of violating tax laws passed by liberals in the state of New York like Eric Garner, they had not just robbed or muscled a store owner like Michael Brown, they were simply in their car doing the job they were hired to do.  Protecting the public and were killed for it.

There are many who have for ratings & or  financial and political gain lionized those who have violated the law and demonized those who enforce it over the last several week and months.  They have done so publicly and proudly.

So when I see self-serving tweets like this:

and this

and this

and this

and statements like this from the AG’s office:

“This was an unspeakable act of barbarism, and I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of these two brave officers in the line of duty,” Holder said in a statement. “On behalf of all those who serve in the United States Department of Justice, I want to express my heartfelt condolences to the officers’ loved ones and colleagues.”

You will forgive me if I tend to doubt their sincerity

I don’t hold the ignorant & naive  college students who apparently were not taught by their parents the realities of life nor do I blame the ignorant on twitter who are cheering this, for I expect no better from them.

The people I have quoted above, however,  are public figures and those figures,  elected and appointed,  should know better.  (I submit DID know better yet charted their course anyway).

Mayor DiBlasio & Barack Obama were lawfully elected and Eric Holder lawfully appointed to their public positions.  The people of the United States and New York City choose them therefore they must live with the consequences, however outrageous,  of these choices, unless they choose to remove themselves from office (Mr. Holder resigned months ago but still holds his office pending the confirmation of his replacement)  we are pretty much stuck with them.

However Al Sharpton hasn’t been elected to anything, he is a TV host on the MSNBC network (Currently owned by cable giant Comcast) and MSNBC has chosen to give him a daily show on their network.

I submit and suggest that by giving his a public platform on their network MSNBC has endorsed his statements and actions of the last several months, and if they continue to do so they implicitly endorse the events of Saturday in NYC.

You might say, “But DaTechGuy Mr. Sharpton has 1st Amendment rights” indeed he does, but said right does not extend to programing on MSNBC, if that was the case then I would demand one myself.

I call upon the network to immediately “suspend” Mr. Sharpton and remove his show from their lineup.

It is their network and they of course have the perfect right to ignore my call for this action, conversely I have the perfect right to express my opinion that a failure to do so is a direct endorsement of the events of Saturday afternoon by MSNBC and by their parent company Comcast and consumers should act accordingly.

The Comcast contact page is here.

You can contact MSNBC here.

Or perhaps you might choose to contact their advertisers, I’m sure they must be delighted to have their brands associated with the face of the anti-police movement at this time.

Closing thought, If Comcast decides the Rev Al is a liability & removes him from MSNBC & said reverend’s followers quit the network in protest, would anyone be left watching?

Update 2nd potential murder thwarted when gun jams:

A second slay attempt on NYPD officers was narrowly avoided early Sunday when a gunman’s weapon jammed as he took aim at two cops outside a Bronx housing project, sources said.

Investigators grabbed the wannabe cop killer after he dropped his gun and ran into the Millbrook Houses on Saint Anns Ave. in Port Morris, sources said.

Yup no pattern here.

Update: Ed Driscoll links and notes an advantage of Sharpton staying where he is:

However, reasonable people can disagree with Ingemi as to whether or not Sharpton should be dumped in the rapidly escalating wake of the violent protests Sharpton helped gin up. As with past anchors Keith Olberman at his must lunatic, Alec Baldwin at his most violent, and Martin Bashir at his most scatological, Al Sharpton is the spokesman for MSNBC — and Comcast — right now. After all, Sharpton is “all the things” its network president thinks “that MSNBC is.” as the network’s president says. And he’s a powerful daily reminder of just much hatred lurks in the hearts of the left:

A fair point, but I think prosperity trumps it, additionally the more we make the unacceptable acceptable the more we enable the next Sharpton, much better to make vice unacceptable and the fall of Sharpton might generate courage in those who appease him.

We need to defeat him and make him feel defeated.

If course if you can do both, I’m  fine with that too.

OK picture this problem, you are an ultra liberal, practically socialist mayor of one of the largest cities in the world who has followed a mayor so rich that nobody on your side wanted to make demands of him for fear of chasing away his custom or charity once he was out of office.

You have to please your base to the city starts to change, you go after the carriage drivers for the environmentalists (or maybe for a developer) the Squeegee men come back and you stop and frisk and crime starts to increase. Sensing the bad old times are back people who can afford it start to leave.

Well what do you do if you can’t keep people with money in your city? You get new people who are in a spot even worse:

Wealthy French Jews Are Fleeing Anti-Semitism and Bringing Their Money

A “fixer” named Marlen Kruzhkov has helped dozens of rich guys move their families — and over $1 billion — to NYC

And compared to France, even NY is business friendly

For this Jewish population, there are two main options when it comes to moving: the United States or Israel. While Israel feels more familiar to many of those seeking to migrate – it’s nearby and many already have Israeli passports — Mr. Kruzhkov notes that their businesses are often the key to determining a location.

“Israel is a small place, business opportunities are less, there is much more red tape.

The US is easier; it’s a great place to do business, less red tape.” Nonetheless, it is anti-Semitism, not business opportunities, that is driving the Jewish population out of France. “It’s no question, the driving force is the anti-Semitism, but the reason they are choosing the US is due to sound business reasons.”

Who thought that rampant french antisemitism would pay off for the ultra liberal mayor of NY?

The problem is will the supply of wealthy Jews fleeing for their lives to NY be sufficient to offset effects of a full DeBlasio term?

Smee: Money is the root of all evil

Blogg: Except for us, we’re professionals we can handle it

Smee & Blogg The Singing Executioners

Yesterday’s post on the Carriage Horses and PETA’s et/all’s attempt to hijack the #SaveNYCHorseCarriages hashtag and the related tweets I sent out concerning PETA’s own record of killing animals such as this one….

along with the image that comes from the site Peta Kills animals had an interesting effect.  It resulted in PETA responding in my twitter stream

with a link to the following Huffpo article by PETA’s co-founder

People who are shocked to learn how many healthy or adoptable animals have to be euthanized annually or are questioning PETA’s euthanasia record should ask themselves if they are spaying and neutering their own animal companions, helping people with a low income “fix” theirs, adopting from shelters instead of buying from breeders and pet stores, funding education campaigns about proper animal care and adoption (among other things), and demanding higher animal-protection standards in their own communities. They should also look carefully at the photographs of the animals who come out of the impoverished areas that PETA serves.

My thoughts on PETA’s reaction:

1. How necessary must it be for PETA to change the subject of their motives behind opposing Horse carriages in NY that they bring up and defend their own killing of animals.

2. Given that it’s not generally known that PETA supports or practices euthanasia how sensitive must they be to that suggestion to answer such statement directly on twitter from a person with a follower base of under 5000 (Full disclosure I’ve never made a priority of getting Twitter followers)

3. When I read PETA saying their support of Euthanasia as “doing what’s necessary.” I immediately thought of Smee & Blogg’s closing fundraising song  with special PETA lyrics. (sung to the tune of the Mickey Mouse club)

PETA Smee & Blogg:  Our funds are low, it’s time to show your generosity.  S-M-E…..

PETA Smee:  Killing animals is wrong!

PETA Smee & Blog:  Double LL

PETA Blogg:  Except for us,  we’re professionals,  we can handle it

PETA Blogg:  B-L-O-G-G!

Fyi, I don’t know why they sang “double LL” but that’s what they sung, and they’re so funny I’ve never cared.

If PETA & the anti Carriage Horse people are worried about me I guess Human Events covering the story nationally isn’t going to put a smile on their face:

Remember kids, the difference between “concerned citizens” and “special interests” is whether or not they support your campaign.  Granted that the groups leveling these accusations at de Blasio also have their own interests to protect – they’re carriage drivers trying to save their jobs, and carriage aficionados who wish to preserve a recreation they enjoy.  But it’s interesting how one side of this struggle enjoys a presumption of high-minded idealism that Big Media is extremely reluctant to puncture.

That’s how it always works when the media is ideologically sympathetic to a political cause.  Behind just about every compassionate, public-spirited save-the-world campaign to ban or regulate something, you can find big money interests who stand to make a bundle by crushing whatever the State has beneath its heel.  Ironically, liberals are usually trying to keep metaphorical horse-and-buggy industries alive with taxpayer subsidies.

and if Human Events is a problem for these guys Liam Neeson could make it worse if he involved again:

“These animal activists,” Neeson continued contemptuously. “You know, ‘the horses are being treated cruelly because they are pulling a carriage around half a mile.’ I mean, these are the fittest, well-fed, best kept horses I’ve ever seen. I’m a horse rider and lover for many, many years.”

“[T]hey are having a good life,” he said. “Have you been in these stables? I would move into them tomorrow. Seriously.”

Stewart tried to push back, suggesting that the horses would probably prefer to run in an open field. But the now-61-year-old actor would have none of it.

“Jon, everybody thinks that. Everybody thinks cows in the field want to be running wild and so forth,” he said. “That’s bullshit, Jon. Horses don’t either. These [horses have] been trained for thousands of years. They come from Amish farms. They come into this industry. They work 9 hours a day. Sometimes, they have a holiday for months on these Amish farms.”

I suspect the MSM will do all it can to ignore this story, the last thing they want after weeks of NYC and income inequality meme is to expose their guy as having feet of clay.

Sen Joseph Payne: Thirty years ago, I had your ideals. I was you. I had to make the same decision you were asked to make today and I made it, I compromised. Yes. So that I could sit in that Senate and serve the people in a thousand honest ways. You’ve gotta face facts. I’ve served our state well, haven’t I? We have the lowest unemployment and the highest federal grants, but well I’ve had to compromise, I’ve had to play ball. You can’t count on people voting. Half the time they don’t vote. That’s how states and empires have been built since time began.

Mr Smith goes to Washington 1939

There was all kinds of coverage of Bill DiBlasso’s inauguration how he was absolutely determined to make sure that “income equality” becomes an issue. How he would be the great progressive hope escorting in the era in NYC where the wealth and power of the rich will no longer drive the decision of the City administration…

…unless you have to repay a political donor who just might want a piece of land where the Central Park stables are located of course:

An anti-carriage pamphlet Nislick circulated in 2008 made this interesting observation: “Currently, the stables consist of 64,000 square feet of valuable real estate on lots that could accomodate up to 150,000 square feet of development. These lots could be sold for new development.” Gross asked the obvious question: “What are the odds that good neighbor Nislick, the out-of-state real estate developer, simply covets those valuable, underdeveloped New York lots — and has teamed up with ambitious pols to use the emotions of animal rights activists as fuel for their own agendas?”

By an odd coincidence Stacy McCain’s American Spectator Piece notes that Steve Nislick…

founded a 501(c)4 group called New Yorkers for Clean, Livable and Safe Streets (NYCLASS) that spent big money to elect de Blasio mayor

Amazing all of that evil big money to elect the great progressive hope isn’t it?

Strangely enough the media that has been celebrating the coming of the great liberal hope to NY has been oddly disinterested in the subject

Mayor de Blasio’s willingness to do the bidding of his anti-carriage backers has puzzled many observers, who can’t fathom why he would make the issue such a focus. “What makes him think this subject is important enough to occupy his first days in office?” asked New York Times editorial page editor Andy Rosenthal. Evidently, reporters at Rosenthal’s newspaper can’t be bothered to do the kind of “follow the money” investigative journalism that might provide an answer to that question.

I suspect that our progressive friends who have not been told this story of DiBlassio fighting against the middle class workers who drive those carriages on behalf of Steve Nislick & NYCLASS with PETA playing the Taylor machine doing their best to hijack the #SaveNYCHorseCarriages hashtag reading this will be having their Jimmy Stewart moment:

and wonder why the MSM isn’t even looking at this story?

Having been in this business for a few years now I suspect the liberal media is ignoring his story to maintain plausible deniability on their part.

The truth is they would be almost as shocked at the great progressive hope DiBlasso & PETA working at the behest of big money as they would be to discover there is gambling going on at Rick’s cafe in Casablanca.

And they can’t let the low information voters figure out uncomfortable truths such as this

Don’t let this “animal rights” talk deceive you. Starry-eyed idealist don’t have that kind of juice. The big money behind the anti-carriage effort is rumored to come from real-estate interests who covet the property currently occupied by carriage stables.

can they?

Update: Stacy McCain tweets that this isn’t new…

I’m no Bloomberg fan but there is one advantage to an insanely rich mayor, hard to buy him. Update 2: Not only has Stacy put up a follow up but the Lonely Conservative, Weasel Zippers, Dan Riehl, the Evil Blogger Lady & American Thinker have joined the fray. But the most interesting development as a tweet of mine produced a direct response from PETA

Can you say “over the target”.

Update: 3:  Interesting to note Buzzfeed took the time to mock several tweets defending the carriage owners but totally ducked the issue of the Mayor getting rid of the horses to reward a big money contributer.

I suspect that part of the story doesn’t serve a dishonest narrative.

It’s Monday of the first full week of the new year, the Feast of Epiphany the coming of the wise men and the day many cultures exchange gifts.

It’s also the 2nd day of my pay week and I find myself $27 on the way toward a $345 paycheck goal.
