There is one side effect of Chick Fil-A’s policy of not opening on Sunday that isn’t talked about much.

Because Chick-Fil-A is closed on Sunday the business that normally would go to Chick-fil-A goes elsewhere.

While that business likely isn’t as big as the rest of the week and there are likely a few people for who no chicken sandwich can replace Chick-fil-A (personally I think the spicy fillet at Wendy’s is better) There are a lot of small eateries that are very grateful to not have to compete with Chick-Fil-A for at least one day a week.

MSM in general and MSNBC In particular is a lot like Chick-fil-A on Sunday to conservative sites. Ignoring stories and giving us the business

Case in point, Project Veritas and the Obamacare Navigator story:

Last week we had three posts on the subject of Project Veritas’ video showing navigators advising people to lie concerning their income including an exclusive interview with Daniel Francisco recorded before the release of the first video.

Since that time a second interview has been released with more navigators illustrating that Juan Williams not withstanding, this wasn’t an isolated incident.

And Saturday I interviewed Daniel again on DaTechGuy on DaRadio

and yesterday Project Veritas tweeted us that more is coming…

But if you aren’t reading conservative site, or watching fox news or local news in Texas you still haven’t heard of this.

Just like the breaking Census scandal. This broke Monday Night at the New York Post. Yesterday the census department said this:

“We learned about the information today, and we’re reviewing the information contained in that article,” said Luiz Santos, the acting director of the division of congressional liaison and communications in the Department of Labor’s inspector general’s office. Santos said he could neither confirm nor deny whether the IG’s office had opened an investigation.

Zero hedge put it well:

Following the White House’s ignorance of anything that could be going on at the Census Bureau (apart from knowing for sure that the report on jobs data manipulation was misleading), the Census Bureau itself has chimed in…

So that’s good then – just unsystematic?

So this is the first they have heard of it and even if it happened it is “unsystematic”.

Not according to the latest from the post today:

I don’t know how high up in the Census Bureau the orders to fake employment survey data came from, but the director of the Philadelphia region was aware of those charges against one of his field representatives back in 2010.

Fernando E. Armstrong, the regional director at the time, admitted as much in an internal Census report I have reviewed.

And that field representative, Julius Buckmon, who filed as many as 100 fake reports a month — and admitted to me faking household survey reports — was not the only field rep to do so, according to a Census source.

Lets review:

1. We have a report of fraud to manipulate labor states before an election
2. a statement by the Census bureau saying they just heard about it and it’s not systematic
3. A follow-up report that directly contradicts the statement of the Census bureau.

There is a word for a story like that: Newsworthy

But not if you are the MSM, not if you are MSNBC and not if you are Morning Joe who has yet to find either of these stories worth their time.

Perhaps  this  might because they like to spread the wealth. Because they leave these stories to sites like mine they give us traffic and visibility. They are simply trying to help the little guy by giving us a chance by giving people a reason to visit us and hit or tip jars.

However a more cynical person you likely conclude this is because they don’t want to change the Obamacare story focus from the web site and certainly not wanting to deal with fraud before the president’s election. They want to protect this administration & this president.

Hmmm maybe they ARE like Chick-fil-A. It’s all about loyalty to the religion of liberalism and to their God.

Update: The new Veritas video is out:

I’ll have more to say about this tomorrow.

With apologies to Kipling

It is always a temptation;
when you live on agitation
To call upon a business and to say; —
“We protested you last night
 — back with media tonight
“Unless you pay us cash to go away”

Once that was called the Dane-geld
And the leftists who ask for it explain
That you’ve only to pay ’em modern Dane-Gled
And you’ll be rid of protests that very day

It is always a temptation
for a company that’s craven,
To puff and look important and to say: —
“Though we don’t support your actions
, we don’t want the press distraction
So we’ll pay you guys to simply go away.

Once that was called paying the Dane-geld
And Al Sharpton & Jess Jackson did explain:
That ’til you come across with modern Dane-Geld
The cry of “racist” never goes away.

It’s always a Temptation,
To a pol, for Vindication
To feed supporters and an Angry base
Chick-Fil-A, its Christian leanings,
Kept the Left, it kept them seething:
So the Mayor of old Beantown was to say:

“Chick-Fil-A I demand a Dane-Geld
Maybe call it Gay-Geld coin a phrase
To open you here you must pay this Gay-Geld
And toss those Christian principles away

It is always a Temptation,
when the media it shakes ’em
To avoid a cry: “You guys are anti-gay”
But Chick’s customers objected
and one Wednesday they came venting
And blew all sales records, just to say:

“Chick-Fil-A you must not pay this Gay-Geld
Don’t act to feed a pandering pols ways
We’ll stand in line to save you from that Gay-Geld
For Christ and for our Free speech we will pay

And as promised they kept coming,
making registers a hummin
Saying you don’t have to give in on this day
Yet Chicago is attractive,
Hungry People it’s not lackin’
So a power tripping Alderman did say:

Chick-Fil-A pay unto me this Gay-Geld
Don’t let those Christian principles hold sway
There’s lots of chicken lovers in Chicago
And our deal don’t have to see da light of day

It is always a temptation
To employ some obfuscation
Advancing your agenda just that way
So the Alderman went crowing
On the media unloading
That he had brought around ole Chick-Fil-A

So the media reported on the Gay-Geld
That Chick-Fil-a seemingly had paid
A great win with the payment of this Gay-Geld
And all the left did shout “Hip Hip hooray!”

It is always a temptation
To vent your great frustration
When you feel you have been horribly betrayed
So the people started tweeting
Or on Facebook it was wreaking
Massive havoc as in one voice they proclaimed

“So you decided to go and pay the Gay Geld,
Just To sell some extra chicken in one place
And for a single new Restaurant location
We thousand thousand folks will go away

It is always a temptation
To give some clarification
When the news reports aren’t right in what they say
But words too diplomatic
Can turn all parties frantic
And double all your trouble right away

Till everyone cries “did you pay the Dane Geld
Or did you not? don’t play these silly games
Just tell us strait did you pay that dane-geld
‘for we all think that we are being played

So if temptation comes a wisperin’,
take the lesson Fil-A missin’
No deal, no talk just don’t negotiate
When the left it comes a callin’
threatening protest at the mails in
Your Business will find it better just to say: —

“We’ll neither pay a Dane-Geld nor a Gay-geld,
No matter how trifling the cost;
‘Cause the price is our oppression
or confusion never endin’
So you and yours can simply just get lost”

“You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means”

Indgo Montoya The Princess Bride

There are now reports that Chick-Fil-A has not in fact changed their charitable positions, Michelle Malkin:

When I first saw reports on Twitter that Chick-fil-A had caved to the tolerance mob, I despaired. Corporation after corporation has given in to the free speech-squelching agitators on the Left who demand political conformity.

Turns out the information was coming from progressive activists trying to shape a false narrative.

She is referring to this statement that is pretty long winded to say something that shouldn’t take so many words:

In response to media reports that Chick-fil-A has agreed to stop making charitable donations to groups like Focus on the Family, the company today released a statement to set the record straight.

Contrary to reports first made by the gay-activist group The Civil Rights Agenda (TCRA) on Tuesday and later picked up by mainstream media outlets, Chick-fil-A and its charitable-giving arm, the WinShape Foundation, did not agree to stop making donations to groups that support the biblical definition of marriage in exchange for being allowed to open a franchise in Chicago.

“For many months now, Chick-fil-A’s corporate giving has been mischaracterized,” executives said in today’s statement. “And while our sincere intent has been to remain out of this political and social debate, events from Chicago this week have once again resulted in questions around our giving. For that reason, we want to provide some context and clarity around who we are, what we believe and our priorities in relation to corporate giving.

and this on the Huckabee site:

I talked earlier today personally with Dan Cathy, CEO of Chick Fil-A about the new reports that Chick Fil-A had capitulated to demands of the supporters of same sex marriage. This is not true. The company continues to focus on the fair treatment of all of its customers and employees, but to end confusion gave me this statement:

“There continues to be erroneous implications in the media that Chick-fil-A changed our practices and priorities in order to obtain permission for a new restaurant in Chicago. That is incorrect. Chick-fil-A made no such concessions, and we remain true to who we are and who we have been.”

The Baptist press had more to say:

Chick-fil-A’s base of support remains largely in conservative states, and those customers hardly consider Focus on the Family and other groups “anti-gay.” Many felt Chick-fil-A had caved.

Earlier this summer, hundreds of thousands of customers took part in Chick-fil-A Appreciation after company president Dan Cathy was criticized for comments supporting the biblical definition of marriage. Chick-fil-A’s stance on values is well-known: It is closed on Sundays, and its corporate statement includes the desire to “glorify God.”

In the 24 hours after the story out of Chicago broke, Chick-fil-A’s Facebook page was flooded with criticism of the new policy.

NBC’s story further clouded the issue:

Chick-fil-A tried to keep the agreement under wraps, said Rick Garcia, TCRA senior policy advisor. “My perspective is they want to have it both ways,” he said. “They’re getting opposition all over major metropolitan areas particularly in the north… The dilemma for them is will this hurt them with the right wingers?”

The problem here is semantics, to the left if you do not support Gay Marriage you are “Anti-Gay” under that definition the percentage of “anti-gay” people in the US was in the high 90% until just a few years ago

Garcia is now upset

“I am angry and disgusted,” said Rick Garcia, senior policy advisor at advocacy group The Civil Rights Agenda. “Chick-fil-A lied to us and lied to the alderman so that they could open their store in Chicago.”

He should not be if this is true it means a lot less trouble for left than the right since they can still fundraise on it and no longer have to worry about retaliation in the vast majority of the country that doesn’t back them.

As Sister Toldja said

I saw this article from Focus on the Family yesterday, and it has chopped up quotes from a new statement ChickfilA apparently released yesterday (which I have not seen in full) in response to their alleged caving. I don’t think this article clears much up at all, but you can decide for yourself:

She’s right, the whole “You can decide for yourself” business mean there is confusion. Now while the idea of a Chicago Pol lying through their teeth would not surprise me all that much it me re-iterate the biblical quote that was at the top of my previous post on the subject:

Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ Anything more is from the evil one. (Matthew 5:37)

This is unfair not only to people like me, but to people on the other side. So lets just ask the yes or no questions to Chick-Fil-A directly:

1. Have you in the past or have you not in the past given money to groups that are fighting to preserve Marriage?

2. If you have, did you or did you not make any promise to any group to no longer support groups fighting to preserve marriage?

3. If you did, have you decided to revoke that promise?

4. If you did not, did you deceive said groups into thinking you made such a promise?

If all of this was a false attempt by the Chicago Alderman to safe face and from Gay Marriage groups to compromise you a different way, no one will be more delighted than me although it means I will have to re-write the words to my updated version of Kipling’s The Dane Geld that I have scheduled to go up tomorrow night.

Either way we need to know, not guess, remember the commandment about false witness? I understand that you don’t want to be in this mess, but you claim an affinity of Christ and as Robert Stacy McCain put it when talking about a different subject:

And if you are worried about the flack, remember the words from all those centuries ago:

“If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you. Remember the word I spoke to you, ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin; but as it is they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me also hates my Father. John 15:18-23

If you claim Christianity the idea that people will hate you and go after you isn’t a problem to be solved, it’s part of the job description.

Update: Protean wisdom finds more clarity than I did in the statements but makes a fair case here:

Me, I believe the real “compromise” was this: the Alderman secured the right to declare public victory; and in exchange, Chick-fil-A retained its own status quo, and received the licensing to open its franchise. For them, it was a business decision, and its principles remained unchanged. While for the Alderman, it was a PR victory, even though nothing at all changed.

It’s Chicago politics. And its long past due for that place to be evacuated, burned to the ground, the earth beneath salted, and marigold seeds planted atop the ruins.

As for Chick-fil-A, they are under no obligation to make some sort of national public stance and become the retail crucible for culture war battles; having said that, it’s comforting to know that they didn’t compromise, and that — as is the left’s wont — they were forced to declare victory while securing no such thing, then using that declaration to shore up their identity politics bona fides with activists who, like the Alderman, care more about optics than they do about the actual fallout from their policy proposals.

I hope he’s right

Update 3: Paying the Gay-Geld?

What will you give me if I hand him over to you, they gave him 30 pieces of silver (Matthew 26:15)

Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ Anything more is from the evil one. (Matthew 5:37)

Apparently Chick-Fil-A ‘s Christian principles died with Dan CaddyDon Perry

The Christian-rooted fast food restaurant agreed to stop funding groups such as Focus on the Family that oppose same-sex marriage in a meeting with the Chicago politician who had been blocking the company’s move there. Chick-fil-A wrote a letter to Alderman Joe Moreno affirming this, according to his spokesman, Matt Bailey, but the company initially wouldn’t allow his office to release the letter to the public. Three weeks later they relented.

We’ll deal with the Christianity angle at the end of this post for now let’s talk strictly business.

You have built a successful business model based on not only good food but principle, when pressed on the matter not only did national protests against you prove a massive flop, but the counter Chick-Fil-A day was the biggest day in your history. You had a group of hundreds of thousands of people nationwide who went out on a limb despite what the media and the left might say about them to make a statement on your behalf and you not only betray them for the sake of a single location but you attempt to hide your efforts from your loyal customers.

This is called stupid, really stupid! Insulting your customer base is a poor business model in the restaurant business. You are not a monopoly, there are plenty of other choices for the customers you played for fools to support and believe me it will stick in their craw for years.

And really Chick-Fil-A do you think this is going to be the last time someone decided to lean on you now that it’s known you will fold? Allah pundit who supports gay marriage says:

Still depressing to see them cave, though, and I say that as someone who supports gay marriage. Letting this cretin bully them into withholding money from their favorite political causes as a condition of doing business sets a terrible precedent.

And Brandon Darby notes how the left rolls:

Don’t think for a second this isn’t going to be repeated at other locations and thanks to you these guys will happily shake down other business’ too.

Oh and to the left who is now cheering, I wouldn’t cheer too loudly, if it’s established the rules have changed than we on the right are perfectly capable of playing by them, as Allahpundit puts it:

But oh well. Note to red-staters: Feel free to start making zoning permits contingent on local liberal business-owners taking a solemn vow not to give money to the left anymore.

If that’s the game you want there are plenty of officials in red states who will be happy to play it, in fact they might even consider it a religious duty.

Finally Chick-Fil-A , you have given away your identify for a song. You were always known as a Christian Company now no matter what good you do or what you profess you will always be the people who tossed your Christian principles away for one store in Chicago. Are you really so short sighted demographically to understand what throwing that away means in the long term? Or has since the death of the original owners your identity simply a facade that was an excellent marketing device that has run it’s course?

Unless this report is false or you decide to reverse yourself, fast I suggest you go public and sell, if you are going to be just another fast food company let it be run by people who don’t pretend to hold Christian faith & values as its core belief.

Update:  Now we are hearing this isn’t true, or at least not clear. Suggestion, when you want to clarify a potion use clarity. Speaking of clarity I meant to write Don Perry the Chick-Fil-A exec who died during the controversy not Dan Caddy, now corrected

One of the first rules of being in a hole is to stop digging. Apparently the folks at GetEQUAL MA & Join the Impact MA haven’t figured this out yet. They have decided to pull out of the Pride NH event because…wait for it. The Nashua Chick-Fil-A Franchise is supporting and participating in it:

From a press release I received today

Despite the Nashua franchisee’s declaration of being welcoming to the gay community, his restaurant — like all Chick-fil-A restaurants — gives 15% gross + 50% net profits back to the Atlanta-based parent company, from which Chick-fil-A is free to donate to whomever they want. The $50 booth fee for NH Pride is a paltry price for the local Chick-fil-A to pay in order to market a product, in the hopes of gaining new fans who will produce more profits — profits which will end up supporting anti-gay groups working against the interests of the very people and their loved ones NH Pride is celebrating. The Chick-fil-A story for the LGBTQ community has always been one about a company specifically supporting efforts that harm our community, not about a private citizen’s personal opinions.

In other words the Nashua Chick-Fil-A Franchise’s choice to participate in the event and the national attention that counterpoint isn’t good enough, that Chick-Fil-A franchise contaminates the entire event so they will not participate.

Wow way to go guys. Considering the relative sizes of the Friday Protest and Tuesday Starbucks appreciation day the to the Chick-Fil-A day you would think anything that would split the community that supports Chick-Fil-A would be a net positive for your side.

Instead the message is sent, there is a split in the LGBT community and the Nashua Franchise owner (and all others who might consider supporting your position) will get no reward for their efforts.

That will get them running to your side of the aisle.  Good plan!

Then again maybe it’s only an excuse, maybe they are afraid I will cover the event and this is just an acceptable way to disguise the embarrassment and shame of Fedoraphobia!

Hey that makes as much sense as this does.

The DaTechGuy’s fund raiser goes on, help me get that used Mercury and find a cure for fedoraphobia

Rule #1 Never slander a guy with enough money to hit you with a suit and not care how long it takes

Bloomberg reports that Sheldon Adelson has launched a lawsuit against the National Jewish Democratic Council for slander over statement concerning Prostitution in Macou.

A guy this rich can sustain a suit like this for years and is not likely to settle. That makes him a bad guy to target for this kind of slander.

The attempt to classify this a a SLAP suit is laughable, if the DCCC public apology didn’t give the NJDC a clue Alan Dershowitz move to distance himself from this charge should have, but as Yid with Lid put it:

Most of the Talmud (the Jewish book of law) is a bunch a smart Rabbis and Rabbinical students arguing about one legal point or another. The NJDC loses it’s argument about “Jewish Obligation” because it isn’t asking tough questions, it is simply bearing false witness. Besides, saying I messed up and I’m sorry is also a Jewish obligation.

Perhaps the group would be better served if it concentrated a bit more on the “Jewish” part of its name and a bit less on the Democratic party part of its name.

From their slavish reaction in the cause of protecting President Obama’s reelection prospects perhaps the Jewish law they meed to brush up on was the whole: Thou shalt have no other Gods before me bit.

Rule #2 Be Careful of what you do or don’t do on camera.

This entire Chick-Fil-A Business (who thought I’d still be writing about it) keeps getting worse for the left, first you have the comparative turnouts on Wednesday & Friday of last week, then you have the Starbucks business tuesday that was long on talk but short on coverage and results.

Now we have the video (via NRO) at Legal Insurrection

There is nothing that is going to play worse in the black community than a group of mostly white activists berating a black man for his devotion to the bible and don’t think because the MSM doesn’t give it play it won’t get play in the black community.

This is a base election for the White House. The black Democrat base is larger than the Gay Democrat base, what will happen if the black turn out drops in say Virginia, Pennsylvania or Ohio? It won’t be pretty.

You would think the smartest campaign in the world would not make these kind of foolish mistakes, but remember they, no matter what the media tells you, are nervous to the point of panic and such people tend to make foolish mistakes.

The DaTechGuy Fundraiser continues, You’ll find it a better investment in time and money as the two stories above were for the let.

As you might know I’m an early riser. As I churn out my posts for the day I frequently check Memeorandum as per Rule 3

I kept my eye open till I left the house and found something very interesting there, or rather something very interesting that Wasn’t there. Can you guess (the answer is below the jump)

Continue reading “Anyone notice what was missing from Memeorandum today?”

Today I woke up to the news that some LGBT activists have decided to launch a Starbucks Appreciation Day since their attempts at Chick-Fil-A protests were as the LA Times put it: more subdued as opposed to those who live in reality land that called it: a dismal failure

Still a positive move is smarter than a negative one, I figured I’d check when the date would be to see if Chick-Fil-A fans would counter there or perhaps stay away from Starbucks for the day…

…then I found out it was TODAY.

The story came out THE DAY BEFORE THE “appreciation day”.

This is very significant because it shows not strength but weakness. Here is why.

1. Normally you might expect this to go out a few days before such an event, that allows people to build up folks and media. Instead the media announcement comes the night before and doesn’t hit nationally until the day of the event. This tells me the groups pushing this are not confident in drawing beyond their core protest groups. The additional days would not add to their numbers.

2. The groups pushing this were afraid of any kind of counter. A 2nd Chick-Fil-A day where they would be outnumbered would be very bad for them, but people choosing to skip Starbucks for the day would be worse. By not announcing this event the majority of Starbucks customers today, unlike the people at Chick-Fil-A last Wednesday will have no idea their custom will be considered a symbolic act.

These tactics tell me they know they are in trouble, the whole Chick-Fil-A thing allowed the reality of both their weakness and their opponents strength, this “instant” event allows them to create a false media meme that will be picked up by national media.

Unfortunately for them the mask is already off.

Update: Tammy Bruce comments

The Anti-Chick-Fil-A Kiss-In not worky so well? LOL! As I noted on Fox & Friends this weekend, the approach of punishing people and companies with whom you disagree is fascist, petty and rejected by the American people. I’m all for positive, encouraging activism meant to promote the things we agree with. Apparently that’s a lesson the left can only learn from failure and embarrassment.

Update 2: No More Mr. Nice Blog has the hive mind business backwards (note a person of the right/tea party will talk about why they believe what they do while the left demonstrates er fedoraphobia) but he is exactly right in terms of tactics

Face the fact that Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day was a great one-day success for the right, and it’s going to be difficult to mount an imitation protest that equals or exceeds it; if you fail, you look less powerful, and even if you succeed, what you did looks like me-too-ism.

Better to give the right its one-day news-cycle victory and then stop drawing attention to that victory.

Due to the relative birthrates of left and right I think he’s wrong about the long game, but it’s still the right move for the left and the best advice I’ve seen anyone there give.

I bet I’d have enjoy playing AH games with him back in the pre-pc days.

Update: Allen West Bazinga!

A Democratic lawmaker says Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) offended the entire Congressional Black Caucus by delivering Chick-fil-A chicken and biscuits to their weekly meeting

I’m sure every member of the black caucus can’t wait to explain to the ministers in their district how they were so offended by Chick-Fil-A chicken. Should be interesting.

Hey let’s make today DaTechGuy Appreciation day kick into the Tip jar to help pay for that cheap 15 yr old car so I can continue to cover events without using dawife’s car

For details click here for the progress check the thermometer to the right and to kick in hit DaTipJar”.

My latest for the Examiner talks about Allen West’s visit to Lexington on Sunday.

Congressman Allen West (Fl-22) on his first visit to Massachusetts yesterday dropped by Lexington Green, the site of shots the ignited the American Revolution and was greeted by over 150 tea party members and assorted fans.

And compares it to the Chick-Fil-A protests from Friday:

the 30 or so protesters, dwarfed by even the lines at Chick-Fil-A that day, to say nothing of the Wednesdays informal appreciation event chanted loudly and were escorted from the mall where across the street at the local Barnes & Noble, Media trucks awaited their comment.

Yet two days later an event featuring one of the most prominent members of congress. A member who has been specifically targeted for defeat by the left draws 5-6 times the crowd in a public place in one of the bluest states of the union and Major media decided that this was not worth covering.
