The Four Feathers 1939

One of the smartest sayings I’ve ever heard was this: There are three sides to every story, your side, my side and the truth.

There is how you remember events, how I remember events and how events actually took place. Sometimes we get them right, sometimes we get them wrong. Sometimes a particular piece of an event stands in our memory, other times over the years they get embellished from repeated retelling and human nature being what it is, such stories as they change never tend to make us look worse they always tend to make you either look better or make yourself the object of pity.

The best example I can think of this is the classic and slightly comic, scene from the ending of the classic 1939 move the Four Feathers (the start of which I quoted above) where Harry Faversham, to eliminate the final feather of cowardice given to him, corrects the General’s record on the story hehas been repeatedly telling all through the film:

Harry Faversham:  Let me recall the position. Out of the way, Peter. Here are the Russians, behind the walnuts. Guns. Guns. Guns. Here’s the British Infantry. The thin red line. [dips finger in the red wine and draws a line on the table] Here’s the commander in chief. [places an apple on the table] And here are you… [puts a pineapple down on the table] at the head of the old 68th, correct?
General Burroughs:  Absolutely.
Harry Faversham:  You were riding a horse called Caesar, which my father sold you… because, fine horseman though he was, he could never hold him himself.
General Burroughs:  Quite right. Quite right.
Harry Faversham:  Then, according to your story, you said… “The 68th will move forward. “
General Burroughs:  Quite right. Quite right.
Harry Faversham:  Yes, sir. The trouble is, you never said it.
General Burroughs:  – Ne –
Harry Faversham:  You never said it, sir.
General Burroughs:   Never said it?
Harry Faversham: No, sir. You never had time. At that moment, my father told me, Caesar – uh, Caesar – Caesar… [puts a spoon under the Pineapple ] startled by a stray bullet, took the bit between his teeth… and dashed straight at the Russian lines. Away went Caesar, away went you, away went the 68th…away went the commander in chief, away went everybody… and another magnificent mistake was added to an already magnificent record. But nobody ever said, “The 68th will move forward. ” Unless it was the horse. Come on, sir. Own up.
General Burroughs: Well, well, well, well, after all these years, it’s rather difficult to remember all the details… but… confound the boy!
I shall never be able to tell that story again!

Harry Faversham:  [Turns to the General’s daughter] Ethne, your feather.

This is why body cameras are such a good idea for police, as it gives an accurate (if occasionally incomplete) sequence of events without favor to either the police officer or the suspect (the later being the reason why the left, having insisted on them for year suddenly as a problem with them).

And that brings us to the difference between the allegations against Roy Moore and Al Frankwn, Bill Clinton, John Conyers and Harvey Weinstein.

With Charlie Rose we have an apology.  With Al Franken, we have photographic evidence and an apology.  With Harvey Weinstein we have decades of large cash settlements, with representative John Conyers we have investigations and settlements paid out.  In all those cases there were admissions of guilt or payments to settle claims made.

That leaves Bill Clinton who repeatedly denied what was going on until two things took place:  He was forced under oath when Paula Jones launched her sexual harassment suit, and the physical evidence of the semen stained blue dress was produced.  Confronted with these two things Bill Clinton came at least partially clean.

So in other words in all of the cases above we have one or more of the following:

  1.  An admission of guilt
  2.  Settlements paid
  3.  Investigations by a competent body
  4.  Physical evidence of wrongdoing
  5.   Accusations made under oath.

What do we have in the Roy Moore case?  None of these things.  No admission of guilt, no settlements paid to accusers, no investigations made by a competent body.  The entire body of physical evidence is an old yearbook signature that the lawyer of the claimant not only refuses to release for examination but admits she has not even asked her client if she saw Mr. Moore sign said book,

As for accusations, we have plenty of people saying all kinds of things from the Icky to the criminal but all of these statements have one thing in common.

None of them are part of a complaint to the authorities,  none of them have been made as part of a civil suit, none of them have been made as responses to investigations in progress or as testimony before a competent body.

Or put simply none of them have been made under oath.  Nobody from the man claiming they had to watch Moore near cheerleaders to the woman making the accusation of assault at age 14 have been willing as of this writing to make such claims under oath either in the form of a civil or criminal complaint or as sworn testimony concerning them.

They have no hesitation to tell all kinds of narratives to the press or on TV, but not if there is the slightest hint of legal jeopardy from perjury or even the much smaller crime of filing a false police report or the slightest chance that said narrative would be challenged by cross examination or evidence to counter it.

Now as I’ve repeatedly said, if Roy Moore is lying I think he should be toast, even if it means the temporary loss of a senate seat in Alabama (after all the if the GOP won’t pass the bills they promised with 52 votes being down to 51 won’t make much of a difference).   On this point I differ with some of my friends on the right. Furthermore it is not out of the realm of possibility that one of those five conditions might be met concerning Roy Moore before election day.

But until I see that happen I will not only continue to support Moore’s campaign for the senate but will call out the dishonorable left/media for lumping Roy Moore with the increasing numbers of proven reprobates from the Harvey Weinstein left based on ephemera.

Update: Linked by old friend Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit, and by the folks at Canon 212 who I would ask to pray for me. Thanks much both of you.

The Chronicles of Narnia The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe 2005

Over the last several days we have seen many prominent republicans from Mitt Romney and John McCain who represent the establishment wing of the party, to Jonah Goldberg who represents the intellectual wing of the party, to the Twitchy site which while not calling explicitly for Roy Moore to pull out has been very hard on any who defend him.

Now Romney and McCain are very familiar with the tactics of the MSM/left having had the “Binders of women” ,and animal cruelty BS tossed at him while McCain saw a phony scandal concerning his wife be highlighted by the left MSM.

Jonah Goldberg literally wrote the book on liberal fascism (It’s a great book btw you should buy it) and twitchy literally gives examples the MSM/Left acting dishonest and dishonorable seven days a week.

So all three have a well established first hand personal familiarity of the mendacity and spin of the MSM that all of us have spoken or talked about for years.

Now I have nothing against people following their gut feelings on any matter but given our media friends history I have a question:

Can you please explain to me why given that the choice for us is to give the benefit of the doubt to a MSM/left which as Kurt Schlichter reminds us yet again:

So, let’s review. We’re supposed to demand laws that make it illegal for human suppositories like this to have guns, even though it was already illegal for him to have guns. We’re supposed to rely on government background checks to protect us even though the government keeps failing at that. We’re also supposed to disarm at the behest of people who know literally nothing about guns or existing gun laws. And we’re supposed to not believe that we have the ability to defend ourselves, even though normal Americans do so every day – here, an instructor from the NRA literally ended this bloodbath. But we should ignore that for reasons and because.

But wait, there’s more. We’re supposed to disarm in the face of people who celebrate when we are murdered. The Hollywood types, taking a break from molesting each other, didn’t exactly celebrate our deaths, but they couldn’t help spewing their hatred for our faith. I bet if we were disarmed, and a government controlled by liberals had a total monopoly on force, they’d be totally cool and respect our religious rights. I checked with Chet and he thinks so – it’s not like right now they want to bankrupt people for not baking cakes.

has a long history of demonstrated bad faith in terms of honesty, integrity and acting as, in the words of Glenn Reynolds “Democrats with bylines”

OR

to Judge Roy Moore who has not only failed to show bad faith in the past, but, despite having been a target of liberal an media ire (unlike say Denny Hastert who was the poster boy for a non-controversial don’t rock the MSM/establishment Bush Republican) for many many years without any such cards played against him by a media/left that would have loved to take him down.

why you apparently find it the choice so much more difficult than I?

And before you point to the Hannity interview (which in fairness I haven’t seen or heard as I do have a life) or Lee distancing themselves or even a gut feeling that I’ve already noted I’ll respect, remember this, the very same media that is right now insisting that Moore drop out or be dropped will have no problem supporting Joe (fingers) Biden for president in 2020.

I’ll close with this.  One of the common bonds of what we’ve seen out of the stories that are finally breaking out after the left and media protected Harvey Weinstein et/al for years has been this.  As soon as the story actually breaks suddenly we discover “Everybody knew”.  This has been true from Cosby, to Weinstein to Spacey which is why the media so desperately NEEDS the Roy Moore to be a predator.

Now while in fairness dating people of age in search of a wife (in Alabama the age of consent for marriage with parental permission and minus a judge’s ruling is 14 tied with Utah and Rhode Island for the 5th youngest explicit age in the country behind my state of Massachusetts & Kansas [12] , and Texas & New Hampshire [13] all of which shocked the hell out of me) doesn’t come close to comparing to drugging women and assaulting them, or blackmailing folks for jobs, or assaulting and raping people on or off the set I submit and suggest that folks in Alabama, where he has been a very public figure for decades, just might have over the decades years heard some talk along those lines concerning the Judge if such things had been going on.

That being the case I’m going to leave the judgement if Moore is a predator or spinning to avoid the ICK factor from what would have been an apparently legal (but still ICKY) relationship,  or if an MSM trying to bring him down having nothing better than ICK of dating em young spin decided to throw in a 14 year old to do this trick, to the voters of Alabama are going to be a far better able to judge than any pundit including me if there is any there there.

Update:  Don Surber reminds us of the steller record of the Washington Post on honesty from Nov of last year to this Feb:

Three major fabrications in three months time.
Sadly, not a new world’s record.
When you don’t punish reporters for Fake News, you get even more Fake News.
Which is why I am not convinced the Washington Post is not making this up.
Trust but verify?
Distrust and wait for an independent verification from a reliable source.
Like the freaking Rolling Stone.

He’s also right about his btw

If Roy Moore committed statutory rape, then he does not belong in the Senate.

Update 2: Now you know what the MSM/Establishment is on a full court press to get Moore to drop out:

During a segment that aired on Friday’s broadcast of Birmingham, AL ABC affiliate WBMA 33/40’s 5 p.m. local news, political reporter Lauren Walsh sought out voters in Columbiana, AL to gauge their reactions to the Washington Post report that alleged Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Roy Moore engaged in inappropriate conduct with four teenage girls more than 34 years ago.

None of the respondents according to Walsh told her they believed the Post’s reporting.

The people of Alabama are not fools

You have done this deed in secret, but I will bring it about in the presence of all Israel, and with the sun looking down.

1 Samuel 12:12

One of the things that has confused me since the days following the election has been the MSM and the left’s 24/7 all hitting Trump all the time business.

I understood the shock but the simple fanaticism of the attacks non stop confused me in it’s idiocy.

Now I get it.

And why did the story break when it did? Credit the much-maligned Rep. Devin Nunes, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. The California Republican has been pursuing the dossier more aggressively than anyone else, and it was his Oct. 4 subpoena for the bank records of Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm that handled the dossier, that finally shook loose the information.

But knowing that the Clinton campaign, the DNC, and Perkins Coie supported the dossier is not the end of the story. The most important next step is the FBI.

Sometime in October 2016 — that is, at the height of the presidential campaign — Christopher Steele, the foreign agent hired by Fusion GPS to compile the Trump dossier, approached the FBI with information he had gleaned during the project. According to a February report in the Washington Post, Steele “reached an agreement with the FBI a few weeks before the election for the bureau to pay him to continue his work.”

It was an astonishing turn: the nation’s top federal law enforcement agency agreeing to fund an ongoing opposition research project being conducted by one of the candidates in the midst of a presidential election. “The idea that the FBI and associates of the Clinton campaign would pay Mr. Steele to investigate the Republican nominee for president in the run-up to the election raises further questions about the FBI’s independence from politics, as well as the Obama administration’s use of law enforcement and intelligence agencies for political ends,” wrote Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.

This is why the left went all in the day after the election, why pressure was put on Jeff Sessions to recuse himself so a special prosecutor could be appointed and why Rep Nunes was target one from day one, because once if it was revealed that the FBI and other federal agencies were used by a Democrat administration to target their political foes at the highest level it (combined with the Weinstein revelation) has the potential to completely and utterly break these people both politically and legally. And even the MSM is starting to figure this out.

I knew the Obama/Clinton machine was corrupt but even I didn’t realize how bad it actually was

I think what we are going to find out over the next year is going to be amazing but there is one thing I’m now sure of.

Donald Trump may or may not make America great again but there is no question anymore that his election saved this country.

As a rule anything that Don Surber writes interests me but this piece concerning Senator Robert Menendez and underage hookers…

Democratic Senator Robert Menendez is on trial for taking bribes from a Florida eye doctor, who committed $105 million in Medicare fraud.

Among the payoffs to Menendez were trips to the Dominican Republic, where he may have slept with underage hookers, federal prosecutors said.

I am not saying he is guilty, but he is a supporter of Hillary — just as perverts like Bil Clinton, Harvey Weinstein, and Tony Weiner are.

…brought back a few memories.

It reminded me of this piece at DaTechGuy blog in 2012:

Any person who thinks democrat women who still kneel and worship at the altar of Bill Clinton are going to care about Bob Menendez paying for sex from women in the Dominican Republic has not paid attention to the Democrat party and where they have gone in the last 15 years.

I have no doubt as long as Mendenez votes the way Ms. Ledbetter and the media wants she and they will have absolutely no problem with any thing he does with any woman.

And this one from January 2013

I suspect this was the strategy of Senator Robert Melendez as he appeared on ABC’s THIS WEEK two days after news of the FBI investigation of a sexual scandal involving underage Dominican Hookers broke.

Alas for the Senator ABC News’ Martha  Raddatz totally foiled that strategy by cleverly choosing to refuse to ask a single question on the subject

oh and this one also from Jan 2013

The senator’s alleged underpayment of these young ladies apparently was an effort to limit the degree of their victimhood.

Furthermore his continued silence on the matter in the face of a FBI investigation is clearly an effort by the senator to keep the embarrassment of these young ladies victim status away from the national press

and this from March of the same year:

CNN in fact didn’t touch the story until they could spend twenty minutes attacking it. At the Washington Post the Sunday of CPAC a long story defending Menendez appeared. The very suggestion that these outlets would be part of a conspiracy to frame Menendez when they’ve done their best to ignore the guilty pleas in New Jersey concerning dirty money is so laughable it’s a wonder anyone would make them.

Or rather it would be laughable to anyone who knows how US media is.

Plus one from 2015 noting why Menendez was suddenly of interest to a Democrat partisan “Justice” department

Menendez was defending Israel and expressing suspicion of Iran long before this month.  The Kirk Menendez Amendment putting sanctions on Iran dates from 2011 Why were his speeches and critiques not enough to cause a break?

That’s actually easy. He wasn’t expendable then.

Before Barack Obama’s re-election in 2012 a high profile hispanic was vital. Before the 2014 with the prospect of control of the senate hanging by a single seat, every person with a “D” next to their name was vital.

And even a few weeks ago with the first test of the Democrats ability to shake down Mitch McConnell & John Boehner it was vital to make sure there was party unity.

But now that all the elections are over, now that the amnesty money is secure and now that the Democrat party knows that 41 united democrats can bend Republican leaders like a yoga instructor Robert Menendez becomes expendable.

And this final retrospective piece from 2015 noting Stacy McCain’s coverage

While some like Robert Stacy McCain covered the scandal in some depth, it being 2013 a year the democrats still hoped to keep the Senate Gavel in Harry Reid’s hands and Martha Raddatz being Martha Raddatz didn’t find the War on underage Women theme newsworthy enough to ask Senator Menendez about it:

and drawing this conclusion:

The Mainstream media first priority is, and will always be serving the needs of the Obama administration in particular and the Democrat party in general.  No story from the Planned parenthood protests to crime involving people with the wrong perp victim racial or religious mix is going to be considered national news if it contrary to any liberal meme.

Or put let’s put it another way.  If Robert Menendez had been a Republican when this story broke in 2012 the media and the left would have forced his resignation the fact that five years later a solid newsman like Don Surber is still writing about this story concerning Menendez as a sitting senator tells you that just because the left is running from Harvey Weinstein the protect Democrats at all costs meme is still going strong.

Oh and always trust content from DaTechGuyblog

Normally you would see my tip jar pitch here and while I would encourage to at all times to hit said jar I’d like to pitch the GoFundme campaign of old friend conservative journalist Warner Todd Huston or rather his son whose campaign to raise money to replace his father’s car that was torched by “parties unknown” is, as of this writing,  still six grand short

Of course if you want to do that and still hit DaTipJar

I’m fine with that too.

By John Ruberry

A couple of headlines caught my attention this afternoon. Here’s one: “WikiLeaks Releases More Purported Emails, Bringing Total To More Than 11,000,” comes from NPR. Wow. This federally funded news outlet I guess “forgot” that the victim of the hack, Hillary Clinton campaign chair John Podesta, admitted that his private emails were illegally breached. But he added, without evidence, that some of that correspondence may have been altered. Bloomberg writes, “WikiLeaks Releases More Alleged E-Mails From Top Clinton Aide.” Bloomberg: Are you paying attention?

So yes, Podesta’s emails were hacked. By whom? The Clinton campaign is blaming the Russian government, offering little in proof, although this morning on Fox News Sunday, Donald Trump’s running mate, Mike Pence says “the evidence continues to point in that direction.” The Clinton campaign, outside of Podesta, refuses to acknowledge the legitimacy of these emails, claiming that the Russians are trying to sway the results of this autumn’s election, while deflecting findings from those emails, which include Bill Clinton receiving a $1 million birthday check for the Clinton Foundation–the charity is really a slush fund, by the way–from the government of Qatar, which we learn from another email, is funding ISIS, or at least Hillary Clinton believes so.

Did Russia write that $1 million check?

Also learned from those purported emails was that there was an anti-Catholic email exchange between Podesta, Jennifer Palmieri, communications director of the campaign, and John Halpin of the leftist Center for American Progress. If the trio had discussing Islam in the same manner, they’d almost certainly be looking for new jobs now.

And those revelations are just the ones on the top of the Podesta email pile.

But a couple of media outlets, probably more, apparently believe that by questioning the legitimacy of these alleged emails, people may doubt their veracity.

I don’t think it’s going to work. Not this time. We’re not as dumb as the media elites believe.
