The Chronicles of Narnia The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe 2005

Over the last several days we have seen many prominent republicans from Mitt Romney and John McCain who represent the establishment wing of the party, to Jonah Goldberg who represents the intellectual wing of the party, to the Twitchy site which while not calling explicitly for Roy Moore to pull out has been very hard on any who defend him.

Now Romney and McCain are very familiar with the tactics of the MSM/left having had the “Binders of women” ,and animal cruelty BS tossed at him while McCain saw a phony scandal concerning his wife be highlighted by the left MSM.

Jonah Goldberg literally wrote the book on liberal fascism (It’s a great book btw you should buy it) and twitchy literally gives examples the MSM/Left acting dishonest and dishonorable seven days a week.

So all three have a well established first hand personal familiarity of the mendacity and spin of the MSM that all of us have spoken or talked about for years.

Now I have nothing against people following their gut feelings on any matter but given our media friends history I have a question:

Can you please explain to me why given that the choice for us is to give the benefit of the doubt to a MSM/left which as Kurt Schlichter reminds us yet again:

So, let’s review. We’re supposed to demand laws that make it illegal for human suppositories like this to have guns, even though it was already illegal for him to have guns. We’re supposed to rely on government background checks to protect us even though the government keeps failing at that. We’re also supposed to disarm at the behest of people who know literally nothing about guns or existing gun laws. And we’re supposed to not believe that we have the ability to defend ourselves, even though normal Americans do so every day – here, an instructor from the NRA literally ended this bloodbath. But we should ignore that for reasons and because.

But wait, there’s more. We’re supposed to disarm in the face of people who celebrate when we are murdered. The Hollywood types, taking a break from molesting each other, didn’t exactly celebrate our deaths, but they couldn’t help spewing their hatred for our faith. I bet if we were disarmed, and a government controlled by liberals had a total monopoly on force, they’d be totally cool and respect our religious rights. I checked with Chet and he thinks so – it’s not like right now they want to bankrupt people for not baking cakes.

has a long history of demonstrated bad faith in terms of honesty, integrity and acting as, in the words of Glenn Reynolds “Democrats with bylines”

OR

to Judge Roy Moore who has not only failed to show bad faith in the past, but, despite having been a target of liberal an media ire (unlike say Denny Hastert who was the poster boy for a non-controversial don’t rock the MSM/establishment Bush Republican) for many many years without any such cards played against him by a media/left that would have loved to take him down.

why you apparently find it the choice so much more difficult than I?

And before you point to the Hannity interview (which in fairness I haven’t seen or heard as I do have a life) or Lee distancing themselves or even a gut feeling that I’ve already noted I’ll respect, remember this, the very same media that is right now insisting that Moore drop out or be dropped will have no problem supporting Joe (fingers) Biden for president in 2020.

I’ll close with this.  One of the common bonds of what we’ve seen out of the stories that are finally breaking out after the left and media protected Harvey Weinstein et/al for years has been this.  As soon as the story actually breaks suddenly we discover “Everybody knew”.  This has been true from Cosby, to Weinstein to Spacey which is why the media so desperately NEEDS the Roy Moore to be a predator.

Now while in fairness dating people of age in search of a wife (in Alabama the age of consent for marriage with parental permission and minus a judge’s ruling is 14 tied with Utah and Rhode Island for the 5th youngest explicit age in the country behind my state of Massachusetts & Kansas [12] , and Texas & New Hampshire [13] all of which shocked the hell out of me) doesn’t come close to comparing to drugging women and assaulting them, or blackmailing folks for jobs, or assaulting and raping people on or off the set I submit and suggest that folks in Alabama, where he has been a very public figure for decades, just might have over the decades years heard some talk along those lines concerning the Judge if such things had been going on.

That being the case I’m going to leave the judgement if Moore is a predator or spinning to avoid the ICK factor from what would have been an apparently legal (but still ICKY) relationship,  or if an MSM trying to bring him down having nothing better than ICK of dating em young spin decided to throw in a 14 year old to do this trick, to the voters of Alabama are going to be a far better able to judge than any pundit including me if there is any there there.

Update:  Don Surber reminds us of the steller record of the Washington Post on honesty from Nov of last year to this Feb:

Three major fabrications in three months time.
Sadly, not a new world’s record.
When you don’t punish reporters for Fake News, you get even more Fake News.
Which is why I am not convinced the Washington Post is not making this up.
Trust but verify?
Distrust and wait for an independent verification from a reliable source.
Like the freaking Rolling Stone.

He’s also right about his btw

If Roy Moore committed statutory rape, then he does not belong in the Senate.

Update 2: Now you know what the MSM/Establishment is on a full court press to get Moore to drop out:

During a segment that aired on Friday’s broadcast of Birmingham, AL ABC affiliate WBMA 33/40’s 5 p.m. local news, political reporter Lauren Walsh sought out voters in Columbiana, AL to gauge their reactions to the Washington Post report that alleged Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Roy Moore engaged in inappropriate conduct with four teenage girls more than 34 years ago.

None of the respondents according to Walsh told her they believed the Post’s reporting.

The people of Alabama are not fools

The Screwtape Letters II

Despite some very public divisions and gaffe’s over the last week in Virginia Democrats finally got a victory they were looking for and more. It very much looks like they will manage to take back a state legislature.

Some of the races are so close it might take a few days to see if it happens but if it does so be it. Although I suspect the people of Virginia will quickly find out that no amount of running as a moderate will keep a democrat from voting like a socialist.

Additionally Democrats have won races in CT and NJ as well as keeping the Mayor’s seat in New York City, but there seems to be something missing.

No matter how hard you look on the net there doesn’t seem to be any sign of conservatives or even establishment republicans breaking out in tears, making pathetic videos on youtube, rioting and toppling statues, torching limos or running around in hats shaped like genitals loudly proclaiming that (insert candidate name here) is not MY mayor, or representative or governor.

That’s because whatever their faults (and the do-nothing GOP congress is exhibiting plenty of them) the GOP and conservatism remain the venue of civilized adults even when we lose.

I’ll be honest I’m disappointed about the results but at least that means we didn’t have to be treated to the spectacle of Democrats loudly protesting or making a scene of themselves oh wait…

Yes you read that right, the left can’t even win without protesting and heckling people, even their own victorious candidate.

But it’s their victory party and they can cry if they want to. Of course the real crying will be done by the people of Virginia and elsewhere once they rediscover the joys of being governed by Democrats unrestrained by any non rioting GOP checks and balances.

Of course if the people of Virginia and elsewhere have decided they wanted to vote for that uniquely socialistic Democrat combination of tax raising, budget busting, business killing regulations, lax law enforcement and using the courts to force the will of the SJW class on pain of destruction on the people rest assured our friends in the Democrat party will be delighted to give it to them good and hard.

In fact if they didn’t want that it, too bad, in a republic you always get the government you deserve, and boy are these people gonna get it, whether they like it or not.

As I have no sexual secrets of rich liberals to sell or the sponsorship of a national pizza company I have to make my buck by going places and doing interviews all the time hoping people like it enough to pay for it.

One final thought about #ga06 a lot of you who are proclaiming this a defeat for democrats for silly reasons like this

are missing the point.

I mean sure if your actual goal was to win the election and send a Democrat to be a minority member of congress and create a false “Trump is losing” meme then yes GA06 is an unmitigated disaster.

But if you are a member of the professional Democrat political/media class this was a huge success.

If you are a professional Democrat fundraiser you were able to bring in tens of millions of dollars and you got your percentage of the funds to allow you to live in the manner that you have become accustomed to and more importantly you are able to tell the next sacrificial lamb: “Hey If I was able to raise $23 mil for a loser so pathetic that he proposed to his girl of 12 years to try to get elected think of what I can do for a bright (insert SJW approved pronoun here) like you!”

If you are an employee of said fundraiser you not only got a paycheck (likely nothing better than minimum wage certainly not the 15 an hour living wage) but you have “fundraiser for Ossoff” on your resume and the next pol looking to hire is not going to see the “L” he’s going to see the “$23 mil” in his head.

If you are a consultant hired by the Ossoff campaign you not only got a big share of that $23 million to continue to live in the lifestyle that you’ve become accustomed to but you made the hiring decision on who to spend a good chunk of that $23 mil on meaning that hundreds, perhaps thousands of people are dependent on you for patronage and a paycheck and thus loyal. Furthermore you got to decide what companies made signs and what properties were rented by the campaign and thus you are a source of patronage to them (presuming you actually pay those bill rather than leave them as bad debts)

Meanwhile if you are media, you didn’t, particularly if you are a guest commentator you did OK yourself.

Your network and newspaper got weeks of content out of this election with most of the information provided to you by said consultant or employees of said consultant who were happy to provide you the exact pro-democrat spin you were looking to hear before the election was won, and then are willing to provide the so-called “inside dirt” as to who to blame for its loss (you will note that the person blamed will never be said consultants).

And even if you are one of those hollywood or Cape Cod Millionaires whose money was wasted, you’re disappointed but not unhappy for three reasons.

While $23 million sounds like a lot, the reality is for most of you the money you gave is like a regular person putting 50 cents in a pinball machine to play a game, it doesn’t make a dent of a dent on your finances.

You have made said consultants and fundraisers defer to you as a person to be solicited, meaning said people will grovel toward you feeding your ego

At the same time your ego is being fed, you are also virtue signaling, for what counts as pocket change to you, you are able to claim the mantle of liberal morality so no matter how little actual virtue you have, if you cheat on your wife, ignore the actual poor in your neighborhood et/al you can point to this and to the liberal left all your sins are washed away.

This isn’t an election, it’s a Ponzi scheme, and you dear regular liberal who isn’t rich or connected who sent $20 you couldn’t afford and got your hopes up, are the mark. and these are the folks who played you as RedState notes

This flush campaign chest meant that his campaign resembled a military operation, and with it he enjoyed a wildly imbalanced advantage over Handel in many crucial categories:

ADVERTISING

Ossoff: $11.2 million

Handel: $1.3 million

CAMPAIGN STAFF

Ossoff: 170 members

Handel: 14 members

POLLING/FOCUS GROUPS

Ossoff: 1.7 million

Handel: $374K

And all those folks played you perfectly, in other words, Georgia 6 was a perfect success!

If you are not in the position to kick in we are happy to get your prayers.

I’m in Kansas City this week on a vacation that’s a side effect of my wife’s serious operation back in Feb. As she couldn’t go on the trip with her sister as planned and had to use up our voucher miles before Sept or lose them she suggested finding somewhere that the RedSox were playing and go see them there. This is the first time since I started writing that I’ve been somewhere without the express purpose to cover some political event or conference. The only work I’ll be doing are this week’s posts and perhaps the odd interview if one drops into my lap. It is so weird to wake up somewhere else without having to be somewhere or to have 30 or 50 interviews to upload. Of course given that the Room AC is not working properly and I spent two hours on twitter and on the phone between priceline and the sheraton four points people and their parent company trying to resolve it due to my wife’s breathing issues it’s even weirder. It seems the final plan was to keep her awake all night trying to get things fixed till she was too tired to not fall asleep even with no AC in the summer heat and the noise of the rather loud fan they provided. I presume that plan worked because while I stopped tweeting on it at 1:30 AM and fell asleep soon after, as of this writing (9:30 am central) she and my son are still out like lights so I don’t know when they finally gave up and crashed. Even odder the room isn’t oppressively hot as it was when I dropped off so I guess at least for a brief time during the night the AC kicked in and combined with the rather loud fan managed to drop the temp to an OK level, but then again I grew up without AC and never had breathing issues and can sleep on a wooden pallet with a piece of cardboard on it so the real test will be how DaWife feels when she wakes up. The last gave of the series is a 1:05 start so I’d like to get her up early so we can get a spot of breakfast but as I don’t know when she got to sleep I think I’ll let her sleep as late as we safely can.

Now I know why my parents never went on vacations.

Kaufman Stadium is a lovely place to watch a baseball game but as in Denver it’s still very odd to go to a ball park and: Not see it full, See promotion after promotion during the game, see the necessity for the scoreboard to be used to get the crowd to make noise. But that’s the difference between practically selling out an entire season and having to draw people. Our three tickets for the first game at Kaufman stadium in the upper deck of left field cost what it would have set us back for Standing room in Fenway park…for one of us.

This is my first trip to the midwest and there is a real sense of Deja vu in coming to a place like this. I’m reminded of the days of my youth when Massachusetts was populated by normal people with normal values and not run by frenzied leftists. If I was younger I’d leave for a place like this in a second as the liberal New England in general and Massachusetts in particular is no place to raise a family if you don’t want to have to fight every day to raise your children as Faithful Catholics or Christians of any stripe. You can’t imagine how much I miss those days, it’s also the reason why there are so many Red Sox Fans everywhere else. People might leave the craziness of New England but one’s love of the Red Sox comes with you.

The Death of Otto Warmbier is to some degree a surprise. One might think that to North Korea an American foolish enough to put themselves willingly in their hands is an asset to exploit so normally one might think that any torture would be designed to be painful but not fatal however it’s a vivid reminder that with the Norks you are dealing with one of the worst regimes in the history of history and unless your a Christian Missionary ready to become a Christian Martyr giving your life in the hopes of saving souls, it’s not a place to willingly put yourself.

The left’s pious insults concerning Mr. Warmbier’s death and their previous statements concerning “white privilege” come as no surprise as sadly I’ve come to expect no better from them, the real question is what kind of retaliation will we see from this president. What price will the Norks be made to pay and how will he pull it off without setting and can he afford to be patient in making them pay that price.

Yet another special election (actually two as there was one in SC as well that the Democrats decided to concede rather than sink a fortune in) is now over and Karen Handel despite being an unexciting candidate managed a five point win despite millions of dollars from the bluest states there pouring into the state to defeat her. I think this from Hotair is telling:

11:10 pm: Finally, here is Karen Handel’s victory speech. At 2:30 Handel thanks President Trump and the crowd responds “Trump! Trump! Trump!” At 3:15 she thanks Steve Scalise and spends a moment talking about the need to find “a more civil way” to disagree. “In these United States of America, no one should ever feel their life threatened over political beliefs and positions,”

I think that while the DC shooter managed to only wound Steve scalise, he managed to kill Democrat chances to win in GA06 as voters in that district who might have stayed home decided they didn’t want to reward attempted murder. Of course this doesn’t change the fact that the GOP needs to get moving on their agenda as Chris Muir seems to have pegged.

The attack by Mr. Osborne in London was, in my opinion one of the most predictable crimes in the history of history in terms of simple mathematical statistics. Given that we’ve had over 31,000 Islamic Terror attacks worldwide since 9/11 (40 attacks in 15 countries from June 10th though the 16th alone) sooner or later probability stated that you would actually get a westiner targeting Muslims. I have no problem calling what he did terror, but I insist that leftists who do so do the same concerning every other attack done by Muslims in the name of Islam. The real question is will the same people willing to throw collective guilt on Englishmen over this attack respond in a similar way to what happened in Brussels yesterday?

It also plays into one of the things I’ve predicted, the longer both the authorities in power and moderate muslims decide to deny and ignore the danger of radical islam, the more likely you’ll see people like Osborne decide to, in his mind, strike back. I expect to see many more like him if the state of denial continues. This of course does not justify his acts of murder which not only need to be vigorously prosecuted but punished to the fullest extent of the law.

A little Doctor Who, I see that Big Finish has decided to give a series to Derick Jacobi playing the “War Master”. Jacobi’s time as the Master on screen lasted less that 15 minutes before he regenerated into John Simm but during that time he ruled the screen. I’ve often wondered what he would have done with the role if he had been given more time. Now we’ll find out.

Finally we are going to be seeing the first Multi-master story in Doctor who outside of Big Finish My bet is that Michelle Gomez Master is killed by John Simm’s master with her at the moment of death remembering doing so. Even if I’m wrong the word is she will not be returning to the role. While I wasn’t a fan of the whole gender bender business Gomez made the part her own and has simply owned every scene she has been in in a way we haven’t seen since Alex Kingston. Doctor Who fans will miss her.

Update:  Dropped a “r” from Otto Warmbier’s name, corrected

I’m sure very few people were actually at Kathy Griffin attempt at attention via the Trump beheading photo shoot.  After all it’s the logical conclusion of the continual attacks since November and the media narrative that the election of Trump is the greatest crisis the nation has ever faced.

Since nobody would notice Kathy Griffin under normal circumstances it is natural that both her and the folks setting up the photo shoot would use such a method to get her out there and generate clicks and views

Furthermore as demonstrated by the campus left there there are plenty of folks for whom this type of thing is only going to make her more popular.  You can make a good living out of that niche market.  I can see the campus leftist’s now:  Of Course Suggesting Beheading the President is OK, He’s Hitler you know.

What might surprise some are  prominent members of the left from Chelsea Clinton to Keith Olbermann falling over themselves to denounce her actions.  You might think this is just virtue signaling but no, their reactions are very calculated.

Consider, the left has just lost another special election in Montana and GA 6 election is coming up in a few weeks.

How would the left like to see Karen Handel running ads linking her Democrat opponent to Kathy Griffin, perhaps using the CNN segment of Molly Ball of the Atlantic dismissing it to show the MSM’s indifference to this kind of thing?

Given the reaction of voters in Montana the last thing the press wants is to give normal Americans already dismissing them as fiction another reason to tune them out.

Of course a campaign on that is on the ball would already have an add out linking Griffin and Ball to Jon Ossoff and demanding he denounce them.  If he fails to then it can be played up, if he does then I’m sure that might lose him some fans with the more fanatical Trump haters that the left needs to turn out.  The Handel campaign or one of the PACS supporting her should get on this at once.

And after they do then can send a card to Kathy noting how kind it was of her to give such a gift to their election effort.

Update:  DaTechGuy gets results

A Republican Super PAC has found a new way to target Democratic candidates: Kathy Griffin.

A new ad uses the controversial comedian to criticize Democrat Jon Ossoff, saying her recent controversial actions are part of a pattern of behavior from “liberal extremists” who now support the House candidate running in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District.

Lt. Seymour Head of the Court: You’ve heard Captain Vere’s account. Is it or is it not as he has said?
Billy Budd: Captain Vere speaks the truth. It’s just as Captain Vere says. But it is not as the master-at-arms said. I’ve eaten the king’s bread and I’m true to him.
Captain Vere: I believe you, boy.
Billy Budd:  God knows, I’m…Thank you, sir.
Lt. Seymour Head of the Court: Was there malice……between you and the master-at-arms?
Billy Budd: I bore no malice against the master-at-arms. I’m sorry that he’s dead. I did not mean to kill him. If I’d have found my tongue, I would not have struck him. [angry] But he lied foully to my face, and I had…Well, I had to say something. I could only say it with a blow.

If there has been one constant in the media’s coverage of Islamic Terror attacks, no matter how horrible or bloody, it’s been the “why do they hate us” meme. Over and over we have heard pundits, reports and those the media choose to elevate insist that while the individual act was wrong we must understand the underlying causes behind them, look at ourselves in the west and see how we have provoked these reactions and ask the question: “Why do they hate us”

This usually begins while the blood is still on the group and escalates from that point. It doesn’t matter how many die, how often it happens or even if kids are involved, the proper reaction is apparently to reach out to those who have wronged us and find out what we can do to make them like us better.

And that brings us to the special Election in Montana.

When I initially heard of the “bodyslaming” story in Montana I found myself rather suspicious of the story because of the lack (unlike the assault by a sitting Democrat congressman on a student reporter that didn’t generate any outrage at all in the press) of video These days there are trackers following candidates anywhere and in a race like this I presumed if there had been an assault of some type somebody anyone with a smart phone would have had it running.

And of course there was the obvious question as Ann Althouse noted of setup and changing stories of a witness.

But my gut, and the reaction I got from people at a Trump rally when wearing my press badge, told me that the media was so despised and distrusted these days that despite newspapers and members of the GOP running for the hills this story would help rather than hurt the candidate and sure enough:

Even Chuck Todd was not buying the excuses of the DNC as Hotair noted.

But more interesting than any of this at least to me is the contrast to the media’s Islamic Terror Mantra

Think about it, the media is so hated by a group of voters, apparently a majority, that a physical assault on one of them draws cheers and wins elections.

Did pundits, reporters and those the media consider this a “lone wolf” attacks?
Did they refuse to blame an entire party or president for actions they did not know or support?
Did pundits and press state while the individual act was wrong we must understand the underlying causes behind them?
Did they suggest they should look at themselves and see if anything was done to provoke these feelings?
Did they consider asking the question “Why do they hate us” even once?

Nope, no introspection, no soul searching,  this is a republican, and therefore the only possible reaction to this is outrage, outrage outrage

Now to be fair unless the reporter said something about his mother or grandmother (which is the only situation where I gave my sons permission to swing first in school) assaulting someone, even a reporter is wrong and unjustified and it’s proper that he both show contrition (which he has) and be charged (which he was).

But having stated that for the record perhaps the members of the old media can explain to us in the new why violent and even fatal attacks on people and property require the group targeted for attack to look at themselves and ask “why do they hate us” while the only proper response by the media to Montana is exactly the opposite?

I suggest not holding one’s breath for an answer.

Exit Question:  Given that the left’s standard concerning justifying political violence:

  1.  Nazi’s should always be punched
  2. Our opponents are Nazis
  3. We are justified punching them possible.

Might now be used by the right, how long will it take for said standard to be no longer acceptable or justifiable by the same press that until now has had a nuanced approach to this on the subject?

And remember the standard isn’t if someone is an actual Nazi, the standard is does the person throwing the punch  consider them one.

Olimometer 2.52

If you are not in the position to kick in your funds we’ll always accept your prayers.

Over the last few weeks the leftist media have elevated several Democrat successes in retaining seats in blue state races that they were already favored to win as a sign that the Trump era is already in retreat.

Oddly enough I haven’t seen them promote a result that, for my money, is not only the biggest election story since November, it is  fact one of the biggest stories of a week full of big stories.

It comes from Rutland Vermont where incumbent mayor of 10 years Chris Louras was beaten in a 4 person race by a city counselor  in his latest attempt at re-election as Vermont Public Radio reports:

In Rutland, the third time was a charm for challenger David Allaire, who unseated longtime mayor Christopher Louras in a surprise upset.

Allaire, a 19-year veteran of the Rutland City Board of Aldermen, won 52 percent of the votes in a four-way race against Louras and challengers Mike Coppinger and Kam Johnston.

Louras, who had held the job since 2007, won 34 percent of the votes; Coppinger won 13 percent and Johnston 1 percent.

Now you might be thinking: sure it’s a tad unusual for an incumbent to lose like that and for a challenger to take over 50% in a 4 person race but even so why is a mayors race in the land of Bernie Sanders is that worthy of a post here? Well it turns out last April the sitting mayor introduced a plan that might sound a tad familiar to those who follow national politicts:

Officials in Rutland say the city will take in 100 Syrian refugees beginning in October. Rutland Mayor Christopher Louras said he’s been working closely with state and federal refugee agencies to create Vermont’s first relocation community for Syrians.

The refugee announcement was made at a packed City Hall press conference Tuesday.

It’s worth noting that the April Story from Vermont Public Radio seemed to lionize the decision here’s a screen shot from the online piece

Look how they bold the mayor’s dramatic words. See how important this move is (I thought the “cultural enrichment” line was interested so I highlighted that myself)

Well in fact it was SO important that he didn’t bother to consult either the people or the aldermen

Last week, Rutland Mayor Chris Louras announced about 100 refugees would be arriving in the city starting in October. The announcement came as a surprise to local lawmakers and residents, who up until that point had not been told anything about the plan.

And it turns out that liberal as Vt in General and Rutland in particular is, that didn’t sit all too well:

Critics of a plan to bring 100 Syrian refugees to Rutland lambasted city officials and resettlement experts during a heated Board of Aldermen meeting on Wednesday night.

Many aldermen complained that they were shut out of deliberations on the plan, which was hatched by Mayor Chris Louras and the nonprofit Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program.

“I have a big concern about how this has played out … behind the backs of the city of Rutland,” Alderman David Allaire said before a standing-room-only crowd of more than 100 people in the Godnick Adult Center. “How can you come to our city and decide for our citizens what information is to be released and when? How can you ever regain the trust of the citizens of Rutland?”

Well it’s actually pretty easy to decide for the citizens if you make sure they get no say:

Voters in Rutland will not get the chance to weigh in on whether to bring in 100 Syrian refugees. A 6-4 vote by members of the Rutland City Board of Aldermen fell one short of the seven needed to put it on the ballot.

Nearly 100 people attended Tuesday night’s Board of Aldermen meeting to weigh in on that issue.

Several board members expressed frustration that Mayor Christopher Louras had orchestrated the refugee resettlement effort without their input. They complained the secrecy and lack of information early on had put them in a difficult position and created unease among many local residents.

Aldermen Matt Bloomer says he felt torn. On the one hand, he supported bringing refugees to Rutland and he voted against putting the issue on the ballot.

“But I also felt like it would be difficult to ignore the petition and just throw it in the trash and say, ‘We disagree with the public vote,’ and we’re not going to do anything to address the concerns of what I feel is a fairly decent size part of the community,” Bloomer says.

Apparently it wasn’t difficult enough for the Alderman to allow the public to vote on the issue.

So with the quashing of a public vote in July the program proceeded, by September the Obama Administration approved the plan, even Trump’s election wasn’t going to derail it:

Rutland Mayor Chris Louras has risked his political career on a controversial proposal to welcome 100 Syrian refugees to his long-struggling city, and spent most of the past year beating back fierce opposition and nativist rhetoric from his critics.

Despite president-elect Donald Trump’s victory after a campaign in which he vowed to bar Muslim immigrants from entering America, Louras said he and his allies are proceeding apace.

I love the pejorative in that first paragraph don’t you?

True to his word the plan proceeded and so in the final week of the Obama Administration the first refugees arrived in Rutland.

A family of Syrian refugees arrived in Rutland on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants. Another family is expected to make it to the city on Thursday evening, said Stacie Blake, the USCRI’s director of government and community relations.

And while President Trump’s 1st executive order was a danger to the plan, once it was overturned the only thing standing in the way of the full contingent of refugees arriving was the Mayoral election in March which given the liberalism of Vermont and the support of the press was likely a foregone conclusion particularly with the opposition divided into three parts and all of his opponents not daring to oppose resettlement but objecting to the lack of transparency. In the final debate he bluntly stated that the world would judge Rutland on this vote:

Louras, who’s been mayor since 2007, stands by his actions and says Rutland will be defined by its attitude toward refugees and by the results of next week’s election.

“I have absolutely no regrets with respect to bringing refugees to Rutland,” said Louras after Wednesday night’s forum. “And the fact is, I would challenge anyone in this community to look into the eyes of the children, as I have, and challenge them to say, if I had my way, you wouldn’t be here right now.”

The 56-year-old says resettling refugees creates economic benefits and brings more youth and diversity to a city that he says needs both.

And who could be against “economic benefits”m “youth and diversity”  certainly nobody in Vermont the land of Bernie Sanders.

Nobody, except the voters:

In unofficial voting results, David Allaire, a city alderman and leading critic of the resettlement, trounced Louras, a 10-year mayoral incumbent, by a 776-vote margin, according to results cited by the Rutland Herald and WCAX-TV.

How could this be? After all his success in bringing Syrian refugees to Rutland was “legacy defining victory” according to the press. How could he have lost?

Rutland Mayor Chris Louras didn’t utter the word “refugee” during his reelection kickoff speech, and tried desperately to make the campaign about more than just the resettlement debate that roiled his city for the past year.

But Wednesday, as he processed his lopsided defeat to Alderman Dave Allaire, the chief opponent of his plan to bring 100 Syrian and Iraqi refugees to the city, Louras said he had been wrong on two key points:

One, the refugee issue was the only one that mattered to voters. And two, he was apparently mistaken in his oft-stated belief that the refugees’ supporters outnumbered their opponents in the community.

“In spite of the fact that we tried to make this campaign about issues and about facts, the reality is that it was in fact a referendum on resettlement,” Louras told Seven Days. “They voted on emotion. Rutland is a microcosm of the national dialogue around immigrants and refugees [and] I believe that was  the major contributing factor to this campaign and to the voters’ decision.”

Now I’m not from Vermont nor Rutland but If I had to guess I’d say the major factor in the decision was a bunch of people who decided they not only knew best but that anyone who thought otherwise was some kind of bigot or racist and suggested it to their faces.   This comment from the final story really says it all.

Mayor Louras,

You need to stop blaming your loss on the refugee situation you created..

You clearly lost because you are a deceitful person and have no problem lying to the public.

I think it is sad that you cannot accept that and you still want to cast a dark cloud on the hard-working honest people of Rutland Vermont and the surrounding area.

When I attended the mayoral debate I heard you make the statement that everyone is watching to see the results of the mayoral election.

It seemed as though you threatened everyone that if you weren’t elected the people of Rutland Vermont would look like they were against the refugees.

The people in this community should have been allowed to have some input in this major decision but YOU decided to leave them out.

You losing this election is only the result of you being deceitful and ignoring the voters of Rutland, VT.

I invite you dear readers to take a look at this series of stories and ask yourself Was this not the National Election in miniature played out in the most liberal of states?  A long time pol with the press solidly behind him arrogantly pushing a radical agenda and suggesting till the very last moment that a vote against him would define the electorate as bigots?

Now I’m sure former Mayor Louras will do fine.   Both of VT’s Senators are very old and I suspect the left might be very happy to turn you into a heroic martyr to the cause of resisting Donald Trump and you’ll do very well running again the “rabble” (the word used to describe those who voted against you in comments) who voted you out in seeking national office.

But if I’m the Democrat party, and I’ve just spent the last two months excoriating Donald Trump over his refugee/immigration policies all over the media and I can’t win an election that was admittedly a referendum on taking in refugees in VERMONT, I’d be pretty scared right now.

Perhaps that’s why the MSM which found former mayor Louras’ refugee plan newsworthy in January for their paper of record

They hustled into the church on a biting winter evening, unburdened themselves of scarves and gloves, and settled into pews to sound out words in Arabic.

“Ahlan fii Rutland,” said Fran Knapp, a retiree who lives about 20 minutes away, one of two or three dozen people who have attended a class here on rudimentary Arabic.

Welcome to Rutland.

It was one of many preparations this remote city in central Vermont is making before 100 refugees from Syria and Iraq arrive here over the next year, with the first expected to come later this month.

The plan’s fiercest advocate has been the mayor of Rutland, Christopher Louras, who has cited not the moral argument for resettling refugees, but an economic one:

has apparently decided this local election story in the 3rd largest city in Vt wasn’t worth bringing national attention to and left it to places like Breitbart and me.

Unexpectedly.

Update:  Fixed a typo in paragraph 3 and woke from my overnight job to an Instalanche Thanks Stephen.  If you have the time please check out my extensive amount of interviews from CPAC,  (my latest with Senator Santorum is here) There were so many that even with two posts a day with two interviews per post  they won’t all be up till the 13th just check the bottom of the Santorum post and keep scrolling.  Interviews with Cynthia Yockey, James O’Keefe, The Former head of CPAC & the NRA David Keene, Lee Stranahan and more still to come.

Update 2:  Commentator Bill Peschell notes the NYT online links an AP story on the result.  so noted

Update 3:  Commentator Cardinal ACK notes the voice of Rutland online doesn’t consider the city liberal.  However in the last election Hillary Clinton beat Donald Trump by 46% to 42% with  Johnson at 3% and Stein at 1.5% and 59.9 % of the vote in the primaries were cast in the Democrat race vs the GOP.

I suppose for Vermont that as liberal as most
