Freedom of religion and of association in action.

Kansas City Archbishop Joseph Naumann announced on May 1 that the Catholic churches in his archdiocese would be transitioning away from the secularist Girl Scouts to the Christian-based American

Heritage Girls, citing in part the national Girl Scouts’ support for the international Girl Scouts, which is tied to Planned Parenthood, which promotes contraception and abortion.

Archbishop Naumann also noted the Girl Scouts’ promotion as role models the eugenicist Margaret Sanger, who founded Planned Parenthood, as well as the radical feminists Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinem.

“Our greatest responsibility as a church is to the children and young people in our care,” said the archbishop in a May 1 statement. “We have a limited time and number of opportunities to impact the formation of our young people. It is essential that all youth programs at our parishes affirm virtues and values consistent with our Catholic faith.”

“With the promotion by Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) of programs and materials reflective of many of the troubling trends in our secular culture, they are no longer a compatible partner in helping us form young women with the virtues and values of the Gospel,” said Archbishop Naumann.

Of course, there’s always the “one” who doesn’t get it. That’s no accident.

The most telling detail in the Kansas City Star’s lengthy article about the decision by Kansas City, Kansas Archbishop Joseph Naumann to sever ties with the Girl Scouts comes in the concluding paragraph.

“I feel like we’re being discriminated against,” says Maria Walters, a former Girl Scout leader in the archdiocese, “We’ve been wiped from the archdiocese website, and we have no leadership role in the church at all. There’s nothing like this going on with the Boy Scouts.”

Walters’s response speaks to the problem. Her instinctive cry of “discrimination” suggests that Girl Scouts leadership sees the world from a progressive and feminist perspective, not a Christian one. She asks not how can we better serve the Church but why is the Church disserving us.

Walters is the fruit of miseducation. Of maleducation. There are millions more out there like her.

If you are short on time and must pick which article to read, make it the second one. And while you are reading, don’t forget what the Organized Left’s main goal is.

Planned parenthood is certainly trying to earn their name with this nonsense, because if kids follow this advice they’d better plan for parenthood:

The World Association of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides hosted a no-adults-welcome panel at the United Nations this week where Planned Parenthood was allowed to distribute a brochure entitled “Healthy, Happy and Hot.” The event was part of the annual United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) which concludes this week.

Because this is exactly what Girl Scouts (Girl Guides is the English Version) is all about learning how to be hot.

And of course why stop there:

The New York Times recently reported that UN Population Fund had co-sponsored a very controversial curriculum with UNESCO, that included teaching children as young as five to be sexually active and training adolescents to advocate for abortion.

Via Pundit and Pundette who also comments on the previous NEA outrage concluding:

Ms. Schneider doesn’t want this to be a choice. Got it. Parental involvement is the last thing they want. It might interfere with the agenda against “heterosexism.”

Stacy McCain who has an image of the cover and one page of the handout has this to say:

Those of you old enough to think of Girl Scouts in terms of crafts, camping and cooking are probably astonished by this, but it is becoming increasingly obvious that the national Girl Scouts organization has been hijacked by radical feminists.

Might as well send them camping with Charlie Sheen . . .

As for Planned Parenthood, as I said on the show, if they have $200k for ads then I think they can pay for this nonsense without taxpayer funds, don’t you?

Update:
I gave a copy of McCain’s article to a local girl scout leader after mass today. I think her jaw dropped off and rolled down the front stairs.
