“And it was inevitable that some of these people pushed back…”
Ray Bradbury, The Martian Chronicles.

Overtaxed residents of Cook County, where Chicago is, are finally waking up. After decades of being slapped by tax after tax–folks are fighting back.

Last week the Cook County Board of Commissioners voted to repeal a hated penny-per-ounce sweetened beverage tax, one that until the repeal takes effect on December 1, places a 39 percent tax on a $4.88 12-pack of soda pop.

“The pop tax is dead, but the issue is bigger than the pop tax,” Cook County Commissioner John Fritchey (D-Chicago) told the Chicago Tribune’s John Kass last week. “The issue here is that the people of Chicago and Cook County are not used to having their voices heard and making a difference, with public outrage forcing an elected body to reverse course. This is something.”

Cook County Board President Toni “Taxwinkle” Preckwinkle (D-Chicago) last year had to issue a rare tie-breaking vote last year to enact the soda tax, which took effect two months ago. Last week commissioners voted 15-2 to kill it.

Over the years Cook County imposed with little pushback a 0.75 percent sales tax, along with tobacco, gasoline, and liquor taxes, as well as an additional one-percent sales tax. Okay, there was a rebellion with that last one. Taxwinkle defeated her unpopular predecessor in a Democratic primary on the promise to repeal it–and she followed through. Then five years later she led the effort to successfully bring it back.

Chicagoans pay the nation’s highest sales tax rate.

Meanwhile Chicago residents have been pulverized by repeated property tax hikes to mainly pay for underfunded municipal worker pensions. Illinoisans just got socked with a 32 percent income tax increase, much of that money will go to pension obligations. And Taxwinkle has said that some of that soda tax money is needed for county worker pensions.

Taxwinkle dismissed criticism of the pop tax, which she ludicrously claimed was a public health measure, as the message of Big Soda. Yes, the American Beverage Association’s Can the Tax Coalition did pay for television, radio, and internet ads calling for a repeal. But Taxwkinkle enlisted the aid of “Nanny” Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire former New York City mayor, to pay for pro-soda tax ads. And after the Illinois Retail Merchants Association delayed imposition of the soda tax, Taxwinkle quickly sued the group for $17 million in lost revenue, exposing her “it’s for our kids’ health” argument as a lie.

Toni “Taxwinkle” Preckwinkle

No figures are available, but anecdotal evidence is abundant that Cook County residents in droves have been driving to collar counties and Indiana to purchase pop since collection of the soda tax began. And does anyone think they were only buying soda on these grocery runs? And gee whiz, do you think they noticed that gasoline, and well, a whole lot of other things are cheaper outside Crook County?

Fill ‘er up. Oh, grab a case of beer too! Oh, and buy that stuff as long as we are here. And this stuff too!

Democratic office holders–and not just county ones–heard the sharp message from ordinary citizens: get rid of this tax!

The repeal of the sugary drink tax repeal is a big victory for long suffering Cook County residents such as myself. Cook is heavily Democratic. Hillary Clinton won nearly three-quarters of the vote in last year’s presidential election. Cook County hasn’t had a Republican president of the Cook County Board in nearly five decades, which is when the county’s population peaked.

Yet people in one of America’s bluest counties screamed “Enough” and they pushed back.

But this victory is only partial. The soon-to-be-canned soda tax is only a symptom. Voters need to understand why Taxwinkle needs to spend so much. Pensions for unionized retirees are only part of it. Taxwinkle has been building a massive “free” public-health care network that caters to the jobless and Cook’s burgeoning illegal immigrant community since taking office seven years ago.

Chicago is a sanctuary city and Cook is a sanctuary county. And last month our state’s Republican governor, Bruce Rauner, signed a bill making Illinois a sanctuary state.

These may be the type of governments that Illinois voters want. If it is, then so be it. But prepare to pay dearly for it too.

I’ve written a couple of columns at Da Tech Guy, one here and one here, about Cook County’s hated one-cent-per-ounce soda tax championed by County Board President Toni “Taxwinkle” Preckwinkle, a left-wing Democrat. But the question I’ve been only alluding to here and on my own blog is this one: Why is this money needed?

And the soda pop tax is only the latest outrage. Like other counties, Cook levies property taxes, but it also mugs residents and anyone who buys something here with a 1.75 percent sales tax, along with gasoline, liquor and tobacco taxes.

(Those cheers you just heard come from retailers with shops on the other side of the Cook County line.)

Toni “Taxwinkle” Preckwinkle

County government in most places means the operation of a court system and a jail, providing law enforcement, particularly in unincorporated areas (Cook has few of those), and road maintenance. But in Cook County–Chicago is its seat–county government means building a massive health care network, the Cook County Health and Hospitals System, paid for by long-suffering taxpayers such as myself, and one that caters to the estimated 300,000 illegal immigrants living here.

Chicago is a sanctuary city and Cook is a sanctuary county.

A DNA Chicago article about plans for a new county health facility on Chicago’s Northwest Side that will replace a much smaller one, contains a revelation on where all of that tax money is going.

Once it’s running at full capacity, Carey [a county official] expects the site — one of 17 free clinics [emphasis mine] operated around the county — to host about 37,000 doctors’ visits annually, she said.

Keep in mind, this is just one clinic.

The proposal has been brewing since at least 2015, when doctors told newly elected Cook County Commissioner Luis Arroyo Jr. that they had “outgrown” the Logan Square facility, Arroyo said.

Instead of expanding it, county health officials began looking for a new location, where more immediate neighbors could take advantage. They landed in Belmont Cragin, whose estimated 12,000 undocumented residents [emphasis mine again] has one of the largest clusters of uninsured people in the city, Arroyo said.

Leftism is expensive. Sure, some of what is spent on county health care for illegal aliens is reimbursed by another arm of government. Emergency visits at county-run Stroger Hospital come to mind as does the expensive state-funded All Kids program. Hey, they get me coming and going in Illinois, that’s for sure. But who pays for the salaries and generous benefits for the county doctors, nurses, dentists, and administrators? Not Kim Jong Un, that’s for sure.

Princely but underfunded county worker pensions are another reason “Taxwinkle” needs her taxes.

As a political blogger I natural follow current events. But I don’t recall the conversation about the need for Cook County to transform itself into a welfare state, particularly for illegals, as well as a retirement program for not-working-so-hard county employees. But that’s what county government has evolved into here.

And taxes and spending keep soaring, even though the population of Crook County, oops, I mean Cook County, peaked around 50 years ago, when the county last had a Republican running it and when none of these taxes existed.

Yes, leftism is very expensive.

As I reported from CPAC the GOP activist class has two big things that they have their hearts set on when it comes to the Trump’s Administration, The repeal of Obamacare and the building of the wall.

As we all know the US senate in general and John McCain in particular have thrown a monkey wrench into the first (although I still have hopes that we will see something come of it) but there is good news on the 2nd.

Though Homeland Security announced the move Tuesday morning, the full waiver wasn’t to be available until later in the day.

The waiver comes as Customs and Border Protection, one of Homeland Security’s agencies, is preparing to name finalists to build prototypes of Mr. Trump’s new border wall. Designs will be built in San Diego, then subjected to testing.

Contracting documents said the agency was hoping for designs that could reach 50 feet in height, and could withstand breaching attempts for up to four hours.

To be sure this is only the first in a series of moves that are going to be necessary and the left will no doubt go wild at each one of said steps but as long as President Trump can change the entire media landscape with a single tweet, I suspect the wall will continue to proceed and the left will be in no position to stop him.

You know we are constantly being told that if we stop illegal immigration we will hurt our economy horribly, that illegal immigration brings wealth and prosperity with it, how illegal immigrants do the jobs that American won’t do, pay taxes and add to the greatness and richness of America

That being the case I guess Canada should be looking forward to a new Golden Age of prosperity!

Jean-Pierre Fortin, president of the Customs and Immigration Union, said he believes there are more illegal crossings taking place than officials are aware of. One port in Quebec has experienced a particularly large number of asylum-seekers and illegal immigrants – the Saint Bernard Lecolle in the small town of Emerson, Manitoba, just outside of Montreal.   Fortin said that last week alone, at least 200 immigrants entered the country illegally near the Lecolle port. He said the influx began in November 2016 – the month Donald Trump was elected president.

And apparently cold weather and snow aren’t stopping them

At least 450 people crossed illegally in January and February, despite bitter cold that usually discourages such traffic, government officials said. In all of last year, the total was 2,400

In fact we can already see signs of the jobs and prosperity beginning!

Fortin says to properly protect the border from illegal crossings — those not done at official ports of entry — his union would like to see the government reinstate 1,053 jobs cut by the previous government. He would also like to see the government change its policy so border officers can chase anyone who crosses without going through a port of entry. He says right now CBSA has to call in the RCMP. “We’re not even allowed to chase them,” Fortin said. “The RCMP doesn’t have the resources and what we’re asking the government at this point in time, we want to make sure that we should be closing that gap. We should have border guards actually patrolling these [areas].”

Well that would certainly mean jobs and prosperity for those laid off border agents.  And pretty soon they’ll be benefits for all!

“Now we have (mostly) single people coming across. We will have families and we will have many people coming across when the weather improves.” Refugee claimants must wait 30 days before they can apply for a work permit and some government benefits. Until then, they are given shelter and other help by non-profit agencies.

In fact there is so much prosperity on the way coming from all over…

In B.C., there has been a 60-per-cent increase in the number of refugee claimants in the last 12 months compared to the previous one-year period. Most are Iraqi Kurds and Afghans, and there were also 18 undocumented Latin Americans from Guatemala, Honduras and Venezuela who recently crossed the Canada-U.S. border, immigration agencies said. The number of Mexican claimants is also starting to rise in B.C

…that the Canadian cabinet is meeting over it!

Federal cabinet ministers are set for an in-depth discussion this week of the practical and political pressures being placed on the Liberal government by a rising number of asylum seekers in Canada.

Doubtless the cabinet is meeting to discuss what to do with all this prosperity that has already come and is coming.

Border security, RCMP and immigration officials have been running scenarios to prepare for the possibility that a relative winter trickle of illegal immigration into Canada could turn into a spring flood.

Watch for the omens,  as soon as the snow melts a new Golden Age of prosperity will flow into Canada!

I’m sure our northern neighbors are very pleased but even more pleased will be celebreaties from the south, upset over the recent election and the enforcement of immigration law in the US.  All of this means when they finally keep their vows to leave America for Canada all of the folks that they fought so hard to keep in the US will be waiting for them north of the border, ready to usher in a new golden age of prosperity!

It’s a good thing all those countries these folks left didn’t realize how much prosperity they brought with them, otherwise they would have done all they could to keep them, lucky for Canada they haven’t caught on yet.

I sure hope Canada’s new found wealth doesn’t change them.

The Trump administration has announced it will start taking bids for the construction of a wall on the Mexico-U.S. border next week.

Mexican cement giant Cemex says it’s willing to help with Trump’s wall

Mexico’s biggest cement maker said it would be willing to provide supplies for the US border wall proposed by President Donald Trump, ending months in which the company declined to comment on the potential project.

Cemex SAB would offer a price quote to any contractors looking to buy cement for the barrier, Chairman Rogelio Zambrano told Reforma newspaper. With plants on both sides of the border, Cemex would be well positioned to compete for building-materials contracts.

. . .

Cemex climbed 4.3 per cent to 17.74 pesos at 11:18am in Mexico City after advancing as much as 4.6 per cent for the biggest intraday gain in a month.

As of the writing of this post, Cemex is trading at US$9.o1, still  going up.

While this may sound rather ironic or humorous depending on how you look at it, it illustrates private enterprise in the form of a multinational corporation responding to a business opportunity, which in turn creates value for its stockholders.

In other news, unless you’ve been in a sensory deprivation cell for the past couple of weeks, you must have heard the Democrats generically impugning any contact with Russians, but only if it’s by a Trump supporter.

The latest is the allegation that Jeff Sessions committed perjury. Andrew McCarthy, who has years of experience as a very successful prosecutor, finds the charge meritless.

The Dem party had two frontrunners last year: One honeymooned in the Soviet Union, the other one approved a transaction that gave the Russians control of one-fifth of all uranium production capacity in the United States when she was Secretary of State as her husband

received $500,000 for a Moscow speech from a Russian investment bank with links to the Kremlin that was promoting Uranium One stock.

The DNC has no problem with that, at all. Instead, they are in high dudgeon over Sessions talking to a Russian ambassador.

I find this very alarming, since crying wolf does not make for sensible international relations.

But, if the Dems are willing to waste time throwing a snit over anyone talking to any Russians, and in the spirit of perestroika, I declare today Talk to a Russian Day.

Happy #TalkToARussianDay!

Today I’m highlighting two College republicans who talked to me on DaTechGuy’s Midnight Court Paul and Fawad.

Their story would be of interest to the media for several reasons.

1. They are young republicans from NY a blue state
2. They are college republicans in an environment where that is iffy
3. They are both active enough to run for office in the college republicans showing they have guts
4. They are both from racial and/or religious minorities which means they get even more grief for it

That made them interesting data points for the info I was trying to gather at CPAC, Here is Paul

Here is the audio from the mic if you are having trouble hearing with the video

The Key quote which I suspect will seem familiar. His answer to the question on how hard it is to be a black college republican:

Oh man It’s, it’s crazy I’ve been called all the names that it’s, honesty I’ve been called stuff that’s aren’t safe to be put on your what’s it it, fcc airways. It’s not good, it’s just, it’s all about perseverance.

After I finished with Paul’s interview Stacy McCain returned from the Public House and joined me, after a brief into we brought in Fawad who held the camera while I was talking to Paul.

If Paul made liberal heads explode Fawad must frustrate them even more in addition to all of the points already listed above had two characteristics that set him apart from the other college republicans I interviewed.

1. He voted for Donald Trump
2. He is a Muslim

The irony that of the four college republicans I interviewed in sequence the only one who voted for Donald Trump was a young Muslim man likey casting his first ever vote for president.

(Pause to allow you to clean up the mess from liberal heads exploding)

and the audio

What really struck me was his answer to my question concerning what he wanted to see President Trump accomplish (stopping illegal immigration). His critique of illegal immigration citing his own family who had to do things the legal way coming from Bangladesh was really on point.

“It really is a shame like a lot of my relatives took 8,9,10 years to come here so for people to come here illegally, to you know just cross over a 5 foot broken fence is disgusting.”

It highlights something the left and media seem to miss. The left continues to push the idea that the GOP in general and Donald Trump in particular are anti-immigrant, but to the millions of people who came here legally and spent years doing so, this entire meme is an insult. To expect such people to cheer illegal immigration would be like expecting someone who saved for years to go to an event to watch someone jump a fence, sits down next to them and them expect them to buy them popcorn.

The left might someday catch on to this, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on it.

Update: Included Paul’s quote

If you are not in the position to hit DaTipJar We will be very happy to accept your prayers.

I have a lot of interviews still uploading and several that I intend to post today as time permits but the interview worth being the lead post today come from what would seem an unlikely source & situation.

I ran into Joe at an informal event called #rinocon that Cynthia Yockey & I briefly attended to mix with a few CPAC blogger friends some old some new. We got there early seeing Jeff Dunetz (yid with lid now the lid) and Erik Svane (No Pasaran) but the big names Didn’t show while we were there so we didn’t stay long, but I was there long enough for Erik to re-introduce me to Joe who in the course of conversation informed me that he lived in East Berlin while going to school in West Berlin (his father was a diplomat) and thus daily crossed the wall that meant death for other who might consider trying to do so.

I had never heard of such a thing and considered it so unique that I interviewed him on the spot to hear the story and also to ask about the comparison the left is constantly making between the border wall that President Trump will build and the wall in Berlin.

This interview is important because it demonstrates the nonsense here.

In East Berlin you had a wall illegally put up by a soviet controlled government looking to keep people who wished to leave in, much in the same way that the same Soviets that the anti-trump folks revere divided Germany and kept people enslaved in the east.

Meanwhile in Mexico a bunch of people are leaving their country, which is apparently not a place they want to live, and head into the United States which for all of the faults that our friends on the left claim it has, is apparently where the rest of the world wants to be.

However they aren’t willing to bother with the business of coming in legally like hundreds of thousands of others from all over the world.

The left should be ashamed of themselves for comparing those risking their lives to escape illegal imprisonment to freedom to those violating ours laws to enter our country because they don’t like their own. However that shame would involve learning the actual history of Communism in general and East Germany and I suspect that’s a bridge too far.

So they will remain screaming ignorant outrage and comparing themselves to actual heroes without being heroic because it’s so much easier. Kinda sad really.

One of the things about training and experience as an engineer and a love of history is you get a delightful combination of mathematical, logic and access to the thoughts of some of the greatest people who ever lived in history.

And while these great minds over the course of thousands of years might not be as sharp enough to help me perceive the extra 30+ and growing genders that a person like this one, this one or even this one they have made deductive reasoning pretty straightforward.

Which brings me to this story (via Pat Dollard):

The little-noticed Hispanic survey was conducted in June 2013 by McLaughlin and Associates to gauge the opinions of U.S. resident Latinos on a wide range of issues.

Inside the poll is a page devoted to voter profiles. Of the randomly selected sample of 800 Hispanics, 56 percent, or 448, said they were non-citizens, and of those, 13 percent said they were registered to vote. The 448 would presumably be a mix of illegal immigrants and noncitizens who are in the U.S. legally, such as visa holders or permanent residents.

(emphasis mine)

Two things jump out at me 1st the fact that the poll is “little known”, that’s important.

One of the things about a completely politicized society is that things get spun, if a set of data is collected under the radar, away from various activists groups looking to spin it. For example this 2003 CPAN broadcast concerning that year’s survey drew a whole 25 views.

As a rule it’s pretty tough to claim the fix is in when something been going on for decades and you haven’t been complaining about it, thus there will be some problems if the left wants to pooh pooh it.

The second important thing highlighted is the percentage of people admitting that they were registered to vote, it’s significant because it’s very illegal and yet 13% were willing to admit doing so.

This suggest that the actual number is higher, perhaps much higher as people generally don’t like to admit to crimes (particularly things that might turn out to be federal offenses) to a bunch of strangers.
this
But for the sake of argument consider these numbers correct as they are and ask yourself this

What’s 13% of 30 million?

If 13% of Illegal immigrants admit to being illegally registered to vote that’s 3.9 million people.

Remind me how many fraudulent votes did President Trump claim were out there?

A lot more than these people managed to turn out: “Not My President” Protests Across Country Fizzle

The protests which promised thousands failed to produce mass amounts of protesters. There was no cohesive message, just a general tone of disapproval towards a president who has only been in office one month. This “resistance” movement might lend itself more credibility if they centered around a particular policy or even waited until Trump has done something worth protesting. Alas…

More importantly the USA today report said “thousands” not “tens of thousands” or “Hundreds of thousands” but “thousands” NATIONWIDE.

In other words for a protest held in a country of 324 million where tens of millions of people voted for someone else organizers of this protest couldn’t even get ten or twenty thousand nationwide on a national holiday during school vacation week

Put simply there are a lot less of these protesters than they and the media pretend to be, in fact based on this poll I suspect the number of Illegal Immigrants voting illegally outnumber them by the hundreds of thousands (dare I say millions?)

You may not like that conclusion, it may make you angry or in the modern parlance “trigger” you, but in the end the math is the math, as any good engineer will tell you.

Pre-post update: Population of Knoxville over 180K

“Forty minutes after it began, less than 10 people had attended Monday evening’s ‘Not My Presidents Day’ protest in Market Square in Knoxville. . . . The event consisted of five or six people arguing with a lone Donald Trump supporter.”

I know that’s a red state but even if Trump won the city 70-30 that’s over 50,000 potential protestors.

Back in December we reprinted my post from Ladd Ehlinger’s site on the movie Captains Courageous from 1937 as an appropriate repost with the election of Donald Trump because the posts in this series:

serve to explain what happened to our friends on the left who are still pulling out their hair over the events of November

If you look at that movie it’s the image of the Kindergarden of Eden I described yesterday.

At first the Captain (Lionel Barrymore) is willing to let Harvey’s attitude go and offers to make him part of the crew beside his son Dan (Mickey Rooney). He refuses to work, he starts ranting about sending the entire crew to jail unless they take him to New York, disrupting the ship.

Remind you of any group of people protesting in the streets lately? Remind you of an entire generation of children who will have what they want when they want it from their $600 iPhones to the latest video games? Our film instructor is torn seeing a mirror and not liking the reflection, and that’s where one of the pivotal moments in the film takes place.

Captain Troop, with the good of the ship and the livelihood of the entire crew to worry about, notes he can’t risk months of fishing on a boy’s yarn. When Harvey still rants Troop finally concludes: “I guess there’s nothing left for it.” He rears back and gives Harvey a slap that knocks him flat.

Now I want to remind you I wrote those words in >December of 2011 at the time when Obama’s power was still at its height and the idea of Donald Trump being president was about as remote as the odds of a kid falling in the ocean being picked up by a fisherman before he drowns.

Yet here we are six years later and not only is the left still screaming but Donald Trump is smacking them by simply enforcing the law:

There’s evidence raids and/or detentions are occurring, as reports pop up throughout the country in at least eight states (California, Georgia, Texas, Arizona, Kansas, New York, Virginia, South and North Carolina.) ICE insists the raids are targeted and nothing new and denies social media reports that checkpoints were set up in communities. In California, ICE now says it rounded up 160 people, targeting those with felony records or who are fugitives and called reports of widespread raids “irresponsible” and false, The Orange County Register reported. The newspaper labeled the ICE actions in California a “surge.” In George and the Carolinas, ICE picked up 200 people, reported NBC News.

Some of the scenes are growing intense, with protests in California, New York, Texas, and Arizona. In at least one case, the Mesa deportation, the person detained had a deportation order that dated to the President Obama administration.

And they’re it’s getting worse:

immigrant rights activists and Democrats are raising concerns this weekend about recent immigration enforcement actions — though immigration officials maintain that only routine actions targeting criminals were underway.

Fear is running high among immigrant communities since President Donald Trump’s inauguration — and after the recent publicized deportation of an undocumented Arizona mother of two after a routine visit with immigration officials, reports have been spreading of Immigration and Customs Enforcement stepping up its actions nationwide.

And think of the people who are being picked up.

He said the operations targeted convicted criminals, gang members, individuals who re-entered the country after being deported and individuals who had final removal orders from immigration judges.

Those arrested included a citizen of El Salvador with a criminal conviction for assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering and self-admitted MS-13 gang member; a citizen of Jamaica with a criminal conviction for first degree sexual assault of a victim under the age of 11; a citizen of Mexico with a criminal convicted for first degree sexual assault of a victim under the age of 11.

More than 680 people were arrested in the raids across the country, officials say. Of those arrested, 75 percent were criminal aliens, convicted of crimes including homicide, aggravated sexual abuse, sexual assault of a minor, lewd and lascivious acts with a child, indecent liberties with a minor, drug trafficking, battery, assault, DUI and weapons charges.

Because nothing is going to win the American people over to the left’s point of view like freaking out over the deportation of people convicted of serious crimes.

Of course in Captains Courageous when Harvey gets knocked down by the Captain it begins the moment where he finally figures out what’s important in life and begins to grow, I really question if the left is capable of this.

But I’m a catholic and know that with God all things are possible

Even the left growing up.

A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum 1966

On July 5th 2015 just after Donald Trump turned what the MSM would consider a “local story”, the murder of Katie Steinle by an illegal immigrant, into a national one I wrote this about apply national crime rates  and the illegal alien population:

So let’s apply those rates per 100,000 to the 10-30 million illegal aliens here and give them the presumption that they commit these crimes at the same rate as the national avg. That over the course of a year to between 37,600 – 112,800 violent crimes annually including between 450 to 1350 murders, 2520 to 10,320 rapes & 22,910 to 68,730 aggravated assaults.

That means that if Donald Trump wants to he can find between 1-3 Murders 6-28 rapes and 188 aggravated assaults EVERY SINGLE DAY to give national attention to.

This led to the obvious question:

What do you think would happen if Trump started such a project, documenting violent crimes involving illegal immigrants and every single time he spoke before a crowd brought up a new name who had murdered or raped since the previous day?

Well it looks like we’re about to find out:

In order to better inform Americans about the impact illegal aliens are having on crime rates in sanctuary cities, President Donald Trump today ordered the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to publish a weekly list of crimes committed by illegals

The impact of this is going to be huge for several reasons:

As the folks at powerline already noted a while back Illegal aliens commit crime at a rate 2 to 17 times higher than the national average  This means that the impact of highlighting these crimes will be even higher than one might suppose.

For many years Democrat pols and officials in blue states have downplayed said crimes while a vocal minority, primarily on talk radio (think Howie Carr) who have highlighted them were the target of scorn.  The regular release of this information by the federal will cut the legs right out from under those democrats who have been insisting that there was nothing to see here.

I suspect many of the victims of these crimes who have been ignored or marginalized by the system for political reasons will be emboldened to speak out, once that happens it’s going to be an uncomfortable time for local Democrat pols, particularly when we see how many of such victims are people of color, who suggested that talking about these crimes was just a form of racism.

Finally the MSM is going to be forced to deal with a rather obvious question all this information will raise:  “Given the sheer number of these crimes and the number of victims involved why didn’t you consider them a national story?”

The spin that they employ to avoid the truthful “Because we’re basically Democrats with bylines” answer will be delightful.

Closing thought On January 14 2017 I said the MSM was terrified of Trump’s twitter account because of the possibility that any story they want to bury as “local” could by a single tweet become a national one.

Now every crime committed by an illegal alien is.

Closing Thought:  Donald Trump has been president for less that one week.
