As I mentioned yesterday during my vote for Ann Wofford in Ma-3 piece I haven’t talked much about the House and Senate but I would like to talk a bit about the Senate race in NH, specifically today about Senator Kelly Ayotte.

Kelly Ayotte who you might remember was elected during the big red wave of 2010 thanks to support from Sarah Palin has not been a conservative favorite, they are lukewarm at best on her and some of my friend hold her in disdain.

I don’t.  There are plenty of reasons why I’m happy to endorse Kelly Ayotte, here are six of them that my fellow conservatives should note:

First:  She’s a former Prosecutor.  I’m always partial toward former prosecutors in federal office. They are used to having to prove a case to win so they tend to be practical in terms of advancing legislation.  That’s the kind of thinking that’s good for DC and at a time when police are targeted for murder and the left excuses it a former prosecutor in the senate is a good idea.

Second:  She was one of the few national figures to speak out against swatting when conservatives were being targeted, not just when it became a celebrity issue latter on.

Third:  she was one of the conservatives who spoke out and voted against the budget act of 2011

The 19 Republicans who voted against read like a Who’s Who of the conservative movement in the Senate: Sessions & Shelby from Alabama, Rubio from Florida, Chambliss from Georgia, Coats of Indiana and Grassley of Iowa, from Kansas Moran & Roberts, Paul from Kentucky, Ayotte of New Hampshire, Coburn & Inhofe Of Oklahoma , Toomey of Pennsylvania, Demint & Graham of South Carolina , Hatch & Lee of Utah.

Fourth:  Ayotte has been excellent on defense issues and the war on terror like Benghazi

On Morning Joe, on CSPAN they highlighted Senators Lindsey Graham and John McCain and the questions concerning Benghazi. During their segment with Angus King the senator elect from Maine they asked about Senator McCain and Graham.

There were however three senators at that press conference.

Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) was also there and spoke to this issue, (as she had during the campaign). She gave a strong statement on the situation and answered questions as well.

You would think it’s kind of hard to ignore Kelly Ayotte at that event, She is tall (she towered over both Senators McCain & Graham) but she is a younger, photogenic woman who had a strong interest in this matter. I’d think that would be something to play up instead of just “two old white guys”.

I suggest that is exactly WHY she is left out.

She also spoke up during the Hagel hearings mentioning the Green Revolution in Iran:

Yesterday she raised an incredible point at the Hagel Hearings that nobody seems to have caught

Of course he also voted against a sense of the senate in designating the Islamic revolutionary guard corps as a terrorist organization and he told us during the hearing that it was because of it was part of an elected legitimate Iranian government.

I don’t think that the people who rose up in 2009 in the green movement who were persecuted and shot at by the Iranian government would call that government a legitimately elected government. Nor would, at the time that he voted against designating the Islamic revolutionary guard corps as a terrorist organization at the time they were assisting those in Iraq who were murdering our troops.

You might have missed both of those because the same MSM that tries to distort and destroy Trump buried both of those stories to play the “old white men” card vs the GOP and to keep Kelly out of the spotlight.

Fifth:  (and best) For my money the best reason to support Kelly Ayotte was her vote against Manchin Toomey.  She took a stand for the 2nd Amendment when it counted and the MSM tore her apart for it.

MSNBC went batshit crazy but Morning Joe really went overboard.  After months of calling opponents of Manchin-Toomey the survivalist wing of the NRA the day after the vote lost they were running images of the various senators with huge scare graphics saying VOTED NO as is each one of them were responsible for the Newtown shooting

I recall there was particular ire at Kelly Ayotte for not going along. They talked of the Millions Bloomberg would spend to defeat her, how the Northeast was turning blue and so was NH and how this vote was the beginning of the end for her. I commented at the time:

Morning Joe today is running the Pictures of the senators who voted No under big scary graphics

Now as I’ve already said it’s fair to say she is not as conservative as I’d like and she has occasionally disappointed, particularly on immigration and my friends at Granite Grok have held her feet to the fire over it through the years, to those people who are still upset let me give you one last reason to support Kelly Ayotte that you might have missed

Sixth:  Kelly Ayotte is without question the most conservative US Senator northeast of New Jersey and it isn’t even close, I’d gladly swap her for either of the people we have here in Massachusetts.

If you are a conservative and want to either forestall a president Clinton or help out a president Trump you need to vote for Kelly Ayotte on Tuesday in New Hampshire

While all the focus right now is on the National convention there is still local politics going on and there are plenty of divides there.

In NH former State Senator is putting up a primary challenge to Senator Kelly Ayotte. He made an appearance in Hollis NH and I managed to get there to cover some of it before I had to head for work and got the tail end of his speech

He then took questions on political promises and the clash between establishment vs grassroots

On Race Relations

On the 2nd Amendment and guns

I think that’s critical along with this question on life and planned parenthood

I’m committing to you on camera.

one from me on targeting police

On illegal immigration and sanctuary cites and had an interesting take on the effect

and then sat for an interview with me before I had to run to work

as a rule such a primary is an uphill climb and while my opinion on Senator Ayotte is not as harsh as many in the room it’s my opinion that as Scott Brown learned if you don’t have the pro-life and the pro 2nd amendment conservatives turning out in a general election you lose.

Mr. Rubens web site is here.

I’d like to think coverage like this of primary candidate is an example of the good work here. If you’d like to help us keep up the pace please consider hitting DaTipJar

As a person who is a bit of a defense hawk I’m not down on Kelly Ayotte like a lot of other conservatives. I have noted on more than one occasion she has talked real sense on military matters, has been great on Benghazi

On the Hagel hearings she was spectacular:

That is simply devastating. Yet it got absolutely no airtime in the MSM. Why, because it can’t be refuted, there is no way to describe that vote in a positive way and there was nothing in either Senator Ayotte’s demeanor nor her delivery that can be used to attack her on style or substance.

and when she voted against Manchin Toomey she was savaged by the MSM.  As I put it at the time:

The left has wanted to bring down the only national pol to the right of Chris Christie in the NH and now they’ve finally found a picture of Kelly Ayotte they think they can sell to the General public & New Hampshire voters.

Additionally Ms. Ayotte has been willing to give me time on occasion and it’s much appreciated.

Bottom line I like Kelly Ayotte.  She’s not as conservative as me or frankly as I’d like but she the most conservative member of the Senate from any state north-east of Pennsylvania and that combined with her performance on national defense issues means something.

And because I like Kelly Ayotte I’d like to give her some free advice:

If the Jeb Bush team wants to pull stunts like this in NH:

During an appearance at a Jon Huntsman / The Hill “No Labels” event, a female audience member named Lauren Batchelder played the role of a female antagonist toward candidate Donald Trump.

However, Ms. Batchelder is not just an average audience member.  She’s a paid political operative of the GOP and a paid staff member of Team Jeb Bush:

Let him do it with someone who isn’t on your staff:

However, as previously noted, it didn’t take long to discover that Lauren Batchelder was not just an ordinary audience member, she is actually a current staffer for Senator Kelly Ayotte and also working in New Hampshire on behalf of the Jeb Bush 2016 campaign.

Your name being associated with this not only pisses off the base that you are going to need to turn out in full next year to be re-elected  but by asking the question

“…do I get to choose what I do with my body?”

your intern Lauren Batchelder in one fell swoop put your pro-life credentials in doubt and the last thing you need is single issue NH right to life voters deciding you’re not worth their vote.

I don’t know if the Bush people put you up to it or not, if you knew about it or not, or if your staffer did this on her own but for the sake of a one day sound bite that backfired on the Bush campaign, they’ve given the base and the pro-life community, two groups that NEVER forget a reason, to distrust you.

This is bad.

Moreover because of Ms. Batchelder’s attempt to erase her affiliations the apology I’d normally suggest may not fly because destroying the evidence doesn’t do much for one’s credibility, it makes one look like Hillary Clinton.

That was incredibly stupid.

So take my advice:  Approach your staff and tell them this:

“The next time a candidate with a campaign that’s pulling single digits in the polls tries to use them for a stunt with the potential to piss off the base like this you have a choice:  Say NO or resign publicly.”

No charge.

Oh and it goes without saying that if Ms. Batchelder is still working for you by the end of the week the signal it will give to the base and pro-lifers will be so unmistakable that no amount of advice of mine will help.

I know you can get the MSM for nothing, but that’s pretty much what most of them are worth.

I like Kelly Ayotte and Marco Rubio is far superior to Charlie Crist but I’d really appreciate it if they’d answer this question on the new immigration “this is not in any way amnesty” bill.

If cities like Cambridge are not enforcing current law and if the federal government is not currently enforcing it properly….

…then what is the incentive once Amnesty is granted for them to enforce the new one.

Let me know when you come up with a believable answer.

“Never forget that it is to Captains Bainbridge and Stewart that you really owe these victories”

Secretary of the Navy Paul Hamilton December 28th 1812 on USS United states vs HMS Macedonian

There are huge developments on the Benghazi front. Over the weekend CBS Bob Schieffer actually did a full segment on it

Here is the story:

Sunday on Face the Nation, Schieffer used this stature to raise the stakes on the unfolding scandal surrounding the State Department and the Obama White House. Schieffer used the “C-word”: Cover-up. (Video below)

“Today, there is new information raising questions about whether there was a cover-up by the State Department to deflect criticism that it had ignored requests for more security for its people in Libya.”

And while Think Progress pretends there is nothing to see here CBS keep reporting developments

like this:

“Everybody in the mission” in Benghazi, Libya, thought the attack on a U.S. consulate there last Sept. 11 was an act of terror “from the get-go,” according to excerpts of an interview investigators conducted with the No. 2 official in Libya at the time, obtained by CBS News’ “Face the Nation.”

“I think everybody in the mission thought it was a terrorist attack from the beginning,” Greg Hicks, a 22-year foreign service diplomat who was the highest-ranking U.S. official in Libya after the strike, told investigators under authority of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Hicks, the former U.S. Embassy Tripoli deputy chief of mission, was not in Benghazi at the time of the attack, which killed Chris Stevens – then the U.S. ambassador to Libya – and three other Americans.

And it gets worse:

he deputy of slain U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens has told congressional investigators that a team of Special Forces prepared to fly from Tripoli to Benghazi during the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks was forbidden from doing so by U.S. Special Operations Command South Africa.

The account from Gregory Hicks is in stark contrast to assertions from the Obama administration, which insisted that nobody was ever told to stand down and that all available resources were utilized. Hicks gave private testimony to congressional investigators last month in advance of his upcoming appearance at a congressional hearing Wednesday.

That has produced this statement from Congressman Stephen Lynch (D_Mass)

The Obama administration’s talking points about the deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, were faulty, Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.) said Sunday.

“It was scrubbed, it was totally inaccurate, there’s no excuse for that,” Lynch said of the talking points on “Fox News Sunday.”

Which is in Stark Contrast to what the man who defeated him in the Democrat Primary said before the election:

If things continue down this road it’s not going to be a pretty sight for the Obama Administration but I want to leave you with this thought:

Yesterday in my piece on Kelly Ayotte I noted how invisible her work and speeches on the subject of Benghazi has been to people like Morning Joe. I’d like to remind everyone of these two minutes back on November 14th 2012

The Money Quote:

“We owe it to the American people to make sure that we understand: Exactly what happened, What went wrong, Why couldn’t the greatest military in the world respond when an attack occurred almost over a seven hour period, and why were there at the minimum, misstatements made and certainly misimpressions given to the American people about the nature of this attack in the immediate explanations provided by the administration in two weeks following the attack.” Sen Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) 11-14-12

When Benghazi finally breaks through as it will is I suspect to the disappointment to many on the left in NH voters in 2016 will remember those words long after their astroturf on Manchen/Toomey is forgotten as the miserable failure it is.

Update: Morning Joe led with Benghazi & the Kidnapping today. For some reason that speech by Ayotte above wasn’t included.

Update 2: Reader Sauer ThirtyEight doesn’t get the relevance of the top quote. Long story short Captains Charles Stewart & William Bainbridge persuaded the Navy Sec & President to allow the Navy one cruse to fight the British rather than laying up the fleet in 1812. The full story is here

Morning Joe forgot to Mention Ayotte today and I left out the $300 paycheck pitch.

About a 1/3 of the way there, can you get me the rest of the way before Saturday?

Has anyone noticed how obsessed Morning Joe has been with Senator Kelly Ayotte lately? It seems day doesn’t go by when she isn’t mentioned in connection to her vote on Manchin/Toomey.

It’s kind of funny because I seem to remember a short time ago when Morning Joe didn’t know Kelly Ayotte existed.

Morning Joe ignored her at the Susan Rice/Benghazi Press Conference in November

You would think it’s kind of hard to ignore Kelly Ayotte at that event, She is tall (she towered over both Senators McCain & Graham) but she is a younger, photogenic woman who had a strong interest in this matter. I’d think that would be something to play up instead of just “two old white guys”.

At the time Willie Geist refereed to Senator Ayotte as “others“. It took liberal Kristin Powers to actually mention the senator by name:

Obama also left out the inconvenient detail that there is another senator who has Rice in the crosshairs: Sen. Kelly Ayotte. But perhaps a female Senator holding Rice accountable didn’t sound menacing enough in the era of the “War on Women.”

And as Benghazi continued to advance and Senator Ayotte as she did before the election continued to push it others noticed the omission:

And they ignored her questioning of Leon Panetta and on her statements at the Hagel hearing on the Iranian Revolutionary Guards

That is simply devastating. Yet it got absolutely no airtime in the MSM. Why, because it can’t be refuted, there is no way to describe that vote in a positive way and there was nothing in either Senator Ayotte’s demeanor nor her delivery that can be used to attack her on style or substance.

And when she spoke at CPAC talking about jobs, Obamacare the Tax code and Benghazi it was as if it never happened

As far as Morning Joe was concerned until her vote on Manchin Toomey Senator Kelly Ayotte didn’t exist.

Why? I gave the answer back in February:

On Kelly Ayotte, the plan is to keep her out of the news as much as possible so when she runs for re-election they can paint whatever picture of her they wish.

Her leadership on Benghazi and Susan Rice and Chuch Hagel not newsworthy. Her comments today fighting the internet Sales tax non existent but now they have their anti-gun Newtown meme and now Morning Joe and the left has discovered Kelly Ayotte.

The left has wanted to bring down the only national pol to the right of Chris Christie in the NH and now they’ve finally found a picture of Kelly Ayotte they think they can sell to the General public & New Hampshire voters.

The question is, will New Hampshire voters who know Ayotte fall for it?

Unlike Morning Joe DaTechGuy Blog knew who Kelly Ayotte was long before the Toomey Manchin vote. If you think we’ve done a better job then they have consider being on of the 15 people this week I need to raise that $300 paycheck by Hitting DaTipJar below.

Kelly Ayotte from New Hampshire gave an incredible Speech at CPAC 2013

As a sitting senator and the only conservative in the senate north of NJ you would think this speech would have gotten some attention.

up cpac day 2 024

However it can’t be allowed, they are unable to ridicule or attack her without acknowledging her and they will not acknowledge her if it can be avoided. She is too smart, too capable and too attractive for the left to dare give the country any such clue that the GOP has such a woman in its caucus

There are two ways to try to marganilize a pol you’re afraid of attack them or ignore them. With Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) the plan is ignore.

When Senator Ayotte raised Benghazi during the campaign, the media ignored her.

When Senator Ayotte continued to raise the issue after the election she was they continues to ignore her

When Senator Ayotte appeared with Senators Graham and McCain on the Susan Rice issue, the media pretended she wasn’t there.

When he kept up the attack they continued to look right through her.

Nor would, at the time that he voted against designating the Islamic revolutionary guard corps as a terrorist organization at the time they were assisting those in Iraq who were murdering our troops.

The video:

That is simply devastating. Yet it got absolutely no airtime in the MSM. Why, because it can’t be refuted, there is no way to describe that vote in a positive way and there was nothing in either Senator Ayotte’s demeanor nor her delivery that can be used to attack her on style or substance.

The GOP has rising female and Hispanic stars, the media has decided that the way to deal with Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz is to attack attack attack.

On Kelly Ayotte, the plan is to keep her out of the news as much as possible so when she runs for re-election they can paint whatever picture of her they wish.

The left will always tell you who they fear. Kelly Ayotte is a Gem and in terms of the Northeast the brightest conservative star and the Media will do all it can to keep her light under a bushell

Here the her full unexcerpted speech:

Major General Gunther Blumentritt: This is history. We are living a historical moment. We are going to lose the war because our glorious Führer has taken a sleeping pill and is not to be awakened. It’s unbelievable. Think of it Kurt. Don’t ever forget it. We are witnessing something that historians will always say is completely improbable, and yet it is true. The Führer is not to be awakened!  I sometimes wonder whose side God is on

The Longest Day 1962

Lt. Kaminsky: You wanted confirmation, Captain? Take a look! There’s your confirmation!

Tora Tora Tora 1970

Do you remember when Clint Eastwood did his empty chair bit at the GOP convention. The left berated him as an old senile weirdo.

Then came the Denver Debate and the New Yorker Cover, conservatives laughed and liberals panicked.

While some thought it a joke and some thought it a farce the true meaning of the empty chair was never clearer than it was at the Benghazi hearings.

Under questioning from South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta could not explain why President Barack Obama spoke with him only once on Sept. 11, 2012 during the Benghazi terrorist attack, and never called back for any updates for over seven hours.

The actual testimony is astounding:

Sen Lindsey Graham (R-SC)….And my question to you is during that eight-hour period, did the president show any curiosity about how’s this going, what kind of assets do you have helping these people? Did he ever make that phone call?

SEC. PANETTA: Look, there is no question in my mind that the president of the United States was concerned about American lives and, frankly, all of us were concerned about American lives.

SEN. GRAHAM: With all due respect, I don’t believe that’s a credible statement if he never called and asked you, are we helping these people; what’s happening to them?

And the exchange between Sec Panetta & Sen Kelly Ayotte was simply incredible:

Ed Morrissey is incredulous as is Ace over the statements of the head of the Joint Chiefs of staff (as well he should be) but for all of that incompetence of man with the stars and all the snark of the Leon “Global 911” Panetta there is only one story here:

The story is that on 9/11 during an attack on Americans in Benghazi (including a person he knew personally) the President of the United States was uninterested.

Yesterday Ace wrote a story titled: I always wondered what happened to that empty chair saying it was it Reince Priebus office.

He’s wrong.

The empty chair is in the White House, we as a nation put it there…

…and Americans were left to die.

Update: Should have said “uninterested” instead of “disinterested” corrected. Thanks guys.

Weekly Goal Feb 3-9

[thermometer raised=282 target=300 Height=150 ]

Via Unedited politics we have video of Senators John McCain (R-AZ) Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) impromptu press availability after talking to Susan Rice today on Benghazi.

Senator Graham makes a good point about John Bolton and I think Senator Ayotte hits it out of the park with this statement:

Just to be clear, when you have a position when you’re Ambassador to the United Nations, you go well beyond unclassified talking points in your daily preparation and responsibilities for that job. And that’s troubling to me as well why she wouldn’t have asked.: ‘I’m the person that doesn’t know anything about this I’m going on every single show’ but in addition the fact that it’s not just the talking points that were unclassified but clearly as part of her responsibility as an Ambassador to the United Nations she reviewed much more than that.

That’s a point that nobody seems to be making, it’s as if all of this happened in a vacuum but while the words were strong and mean trouble for the administration there are two things about this video I find most interesting.

1. At 3:09 as soon as Senator Graham finishes but before Senator Ayotte begins to speak a reporter tries to question Graham. When Senator Ayotte is done speaking questions are directed to Senator Graham but none to Senator Ayotte.

2. This video was uploaded to a Youtube Chanel called: Buzz Source. The Chanel has over 1.2 Million combined views of its videos. As of 2:10 pm the title of this video is: ” McCain And Graham Still ‘Significantly Troubled’ By Rice’s Statements On Benghazi After Meeting With Her”

Maybe it’s just me but I saw three Senators there and Senator Ayotte seems to be just as troubled as her colleagues yet for some reason she doesn’t rate mention in the title or description or worthy of a question from the assembled press.

Now if these were Democrats complaining about say Condoleezza Rice we would be told how sexist it is to be excluding the one women in this event from questions or even mention, but as these are Republicans complaining about Susan Rice Senator Ayotte will be safely ignored and excluded as her presence doesn’t serve the “old white men” meme. As Dana Loesch noticed in an exchange with MSNBC host Torue:

Obviously? Apparently Torre missed the initial press conference where Senator Ayotte was present and frankly towered over Senator’s McCain & Graham. saying this:

Let’s also not forget that, I think you all appreciate you don’t end up on every single major Sunday show without affirmatively putting yourself out there of wanting to carry forward a message on behalf of the administration.

Here is the full video in case he missed it:

Dana Loesch continues to notice her even if Torre doesn’t

But this is the left, if the truth and the reality is not favorable we shall simply ignore it, deny it or pretend it was never there.

On the bright side they can still play the race card if they include her.

Update: Jennifer Rubin appreciates Ayotte, but she is not the left.

There is a lot of talk today about Benghazi after the press conference yesterday concerning Susan Rice, and the administration’s actions of September 11th of this year.

It’s all a question of negative marketing. You can’t ignore John McCain, he is a former Presidential candidate and a war hero, but you can dismiss him, Lindsey Graham has been considered a protege of Sen McCain for a long time, if you want to pooh pooh McCain it’s fairly easy to do the same to Graham. He was a member of the impeachment crew vs Bill Clinton and is just another southern white guy.

But Kelly Ayotte is a relatively young senator, she is an up and coming member of the GOP and in fact the highest ranking member of the GOP in office out of New Hampshire. I mean how many photogenic northeast Republican women, backed by Sarah Palin, who are fearless conservatives in the Senate?

I submit and suggest that a conservative woman who is a rising star is exactly who the left and the media doesn’t want highlighted and a real effort is going to made to continue to downplay her and keep her unnoticed.

And of course if she is left out, then it is two old white guys beating up on Susan Rice a woman of color, but if Kelly Ayotte is making points like this:

“Let’s also not forget that, I think you all appreciate you don’t end up on every single major Sunday show without affirmatively putting yourself out there of wanting to carry forward a message on behalf of the administration.

…that narrative simply doesn’t work.

Kelly Ayotte is going to be in the senate till at least 2016, I suspect you are going to be seeing a lot more of her on this issues and others. The MSM may want to play her down because she doesn’t fit their template.

I have no intention of playing along.

Update: To see what I’m talking about look at this story from Politico

Obama specifically rebutted Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who earlier Wednesday called for a “Watergate-style” investigation into the attacks and said they don’t trust Rice because of her statements on Benghazi. Rice is seen as a top contender to succeed Hillary Clinton as secretary of state.

Kelly who? They quote the president:

“If Sen. McCain and Sen. Graham and others want to go after somebody, they should go after me,”

Others? Others? There were only three people there. Sen Ayotte is “others”? Why not say “Senator Ayotte”? Because that doesn’t fit the narrative

After the Hollis event of the afternoon and a quick visit to Mike of Granite Grok I headed over to Nashua to cover Mitt Romney in Nashua. I got there around 5:00 and the parking was already impossible (this is what happens when you don’t bus in people for your events).

I ended up parking on a side street the side street near a football field next to the stadium

Continue reading “Romney at Holman Stadium 9-7-12”

Friday Afternoon I got a tip that Romney surrogates Kerry Healey the fmr Lt. Gov of Massachusetts under Mitt Romney and Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) would be making an appearance at the Hollis Pharmacy & General Store.

Remembering the absolutely Mob scene at the Santorum event and the Iconic Nature of the location I headed up early being one of the first people to arrive.

As people started to show up I was able to interview several local residents starting with Dwayne

and Tom

There were local candidates as well such as Rep Gary Daniels

he is running in a “Float” district, basically NH makes leftover districts from overflow of redistricting into floating districts.

I did a quick pan of the group that was there:

Shortly after the Pan the Senator and fmr Lt. Gov arrived.

And were warmly welcomed

As the event was put together on short notice both the Senator

and the Lt. Gov

Had time to meet people and pose for shots

They then made their pitch

And took questions

On Iran

The Size of Government

and Spin

The Senator answered as question as she was leaving:

I’ve never seen a poll so in touch with the people she represents.

How will this all play out, we’ll find out in 30 days

I don’t usually do this but I predict Gov Mitt Romney will select Gov Tim Pawlenty as his VP on the GOP ticket.

Here is why it will not be Paul Ryan

The only chance Obama has is a base election. He needs to depress an energized GOP base and energize the Democrat base, Paul Ryan would do so, thus he is off the table.

This is also why you won’t see an Allen West, or a Bachmann, or a Palin or etc etc etc. Any strong conservative that the base likes and the left hates will not be the pick.

(BTW: In the long-term Ryan is more valuable in the congress selling a Romney budget/tax plan)

Here is why it will not be Chris Christie:

Christie has served only two yeas as governor. This brings the same experience issue as Obama. While he has performed well, it takes away an easy attack on Obama. Plus while Christie’s plain talk is appealing it would also energize the left, although not as much as the other choices above, and his clashes with the NRA and the right could be problematic.

Here is why it will not be Rob Portman:

Portman’s connection with the Bush administration gives the president the ability to link Romney to president Bush additionally his political operation will be more effective to turn out the vote if he is still in the Gov Mansion
where he will have the levers of power to use as a tool of persuasion.

Also Ohio is not going to be as close as some think.

Here is why it will NOT be Bobby Jindel

On first glance Jindel might seem the obvious choice, an excellent combination of a guy the right likes who doesn’t energize the left. He is also incredibly competent.

But what he brings to the table doesn’t change that Jindal didn’t endorse Romney till April after Santorum pulled out of the race. If he had endorsed him before the March Primary it might have been different but that is the type of thing that the Romney Campaign, which values loyalty, won’t forget.

Additionally the south and Louisiana is not in question for Romney, I don’t think Jindal brings a lot of extra votes (unless there is a large block of Indian-Americans in key swing states that I’m not aware of would would be excited by the first Indian American in the white house.)

Here is why it will NOT be Kelly Ayotte

Kelly Ayotte at first glance would be a perfect pick for many reasons: An early endorser of Mitt Romney, from a small swing state, Endorsed by Sarah Palin so liked by the right, and as anyone who has talked to her can tell you, a smart dynamic woman who has a huge future ahead of her in the party. So why would she not be picked? A few reasons.

1. Her experience is not executive experience.

2. She has served in the Senate around the same amount of time that Barack Obama did before he ran.

3. She comes from the same region as Romney (NH vs Mass)

4. The MSM will “Palinize” her in an attempt to destroy her.

This last point is rather sad and will not affect her in NH in terms of re-election but she has a very strong future before her. Once that first term is done it will be much harder to hit her in this fashion. I think if she has ambitions for higher office I think finishing that first term would be the best long-term move for her.

BTW for all the reasons above except for #3 It will not be Rubio

BTW Keep an eye on Kelly Ayotte, if she is not on the ticket this time (and there is an outside chance she will be) you can bet your bottom dollar she will be in my lifetime. This woman has a spectacular future ahead of her.

And here is why it WILL be Tim Pawlenty

Tim Pawlenty has been a governor he has the executive experience that supplements Romney

He comes from Minnesota and can draw votes from the region.

When he pulled out he endorsed Romney early and has been a loyal, effective surrogate for him.

He does not energize the left to any degree.

and here is the clincher.

Mitt Romney has plenty of opposition research on Tim Pawlenty from his own campaign. Romney knows Pawlenty and knows what the left has on him because he had it first.

For all of these reasons: I predict Mitt Romney will be selecting Tim Pawlenty as his VP pick.

The DaTechGuy fundraiser continues. Mitt Romney had a record fundraising month I’m just $100 million or so behind him but if I can manage to get to that $7500 level I can pick up that used 15-year-old Mercury and have wheels again.

And this is the clin

At 10 a.m. when I arrived the Dirt Parking Lot was already full as volunteers in golf carts shuttled new arrivals to the entrance way to the event.

A Romney volunteer named Rick Christie was driving one of two golf carts. He had been a Romney man back in 2008 and was delighted to see him at the top of the ticket today.

After Rick Dropped me off I spoke to a group of Romney Volunteers at the main entrance.

It was very apparent that unlike last year’s event in Concord the Volunteer staff was more relaxed as a lot more of the grass-roots were involved.

I talked to a familiar face Sheriff Scott Hillard who I’d interviewed in the past.

We talked about the inexplicable decision of the Obama Campaign to adopt Elizabeth Warren’s Language and how that decision may be a sing of the insular nature of the left.

At the press check-In table again the contrast to the events before the Governor secured the nomination was apparent. The tension of the primary campaign was gone and people freely discussed the current events of the campaign. We chatted as I signed in and talked about Mitt Romney.

One of the men noted Mitt was generally a very reserved person but once he got to know you tends to open up. This is an excellent description of the campaign as Romney seems to have grown on the stump, particularly when he has the company of his wife but especially since the conversation turned to small business a topic right in the campaign’s sweet spot.

There was already a line of people waiting to enter. One of them a young man named John with a Scott Brown T-Shirt immediately stood out and we talked

Again the topic of Elizabeth Warren came up. It makes one wonder if the President’s adoption of her speech might boomerang into the Massachusetts Senate race to the benefit of Scott Brown.

This was the first time I had encountered the Secret Service at an event since I started as a blogger (although I had run into them at a Palin event during the 2008 campaign. I don’t tend to travel light so the emptying of my pockets, bags etc looked like something you might see if Tom Baker or Harpo Marx every passed through such as checkpoint.

One in the press area (It’s amazing to see the difference four letters “W-C-R-N” have in a situation like this). I started to get settled. As usually the reporters were spending the majority of their time talking to each other and smoozing as might be expected of people who had seen event after event every day.

I choose a spot where I could see each person as they entered so I could grab a shot

Or an interview

For most of the press this was not a source of excitement, the traveling media had seen Mitt over and over. There was however a little bit of excitement for the media: Ari Shapiro of NPR apparently had used some kind of tape to hold his power supply together and when he plugged it in to the Surge protectors the resulting combination of smoke as everything shorted out quickly drew people with earpieces.

It turned out to be a minor thing and the source of a few laughs, even from Ari who rushed out and found a replacement power supply at a nearby Staples (Thanks Mitt!) making it back with 30 minutes to spare.

The waiting continued as people kept arriving about 250 chairs were set up for the public.

I spotted a fellow with a Mitt Sticker on his hat so naturally he had to be interviewed.

His observations on Mitt’s evolution in dealing with the public is something that people who have covered him have observed for a bit.

As we got closer to the starting bell the Secret Service checked everyone out, various members of the press photographers looked for the best stop for their shots and I explained my Virbram five-finger shoes to Steven Alex Miller of the NY Post.

As it got closer to the start time and the sun got hotter people became more antsy, volunteers went into the crowd giving out water.

While this was going on I noticed what looked like (to me) a Franciscan Friar being escorted to the area behind the stage.

And then everything changed.

Congressman Charlie Bass who had been behind the stage came out and sat with the crowd and to everyone surprise the first person introduced was Anglican Priest Fr. Christian Tutor who offered a prayer for the dead in Colorado

He was followed by Senator Kelly Ayotte, her words were less of a political speech and more of the intro to a memorial service

She was followed by Governor Romney, his words were exclusively about the event of early this morning in Colorado

Gone was the speech no doubt planned for the small business setting, instead it was all about what was most precious in life. The Governor spoke for less than four minutes.

When he was done the people seemed a bit confused as if their time in the hot sun would be for only a few minutes of a speech, but they were soon to find out they were wrong.

Governor Romney, Senator Ayotte and Fr. Christian formed a receiving line

and greeted each person as they left in turn.

as if it was a wake for fellow Americans.

They greeted every person in turn, without photos or autographs or any of the normal political trappings other than the secret service on the job

As the line moved I briefly talked to Congressman Charlie Bass (R-NH) about the event

Then returned to the press area. As the last person left the line I called over Fr. Tutor who consented to an interview, while I was shooting Governor Romney came over and thanked him

Fr. Tutor explained he was contacted only 30 min before the event. That suggests the change in tone was decided in the final hour before things took place

At this point I headed back, as the buses came to take people to the parking area I spoke to a member of the crowd about the event.

As for myself, some might debate if Mitt Romney can fix the economy, if he will be conservative enough or what kind of justices he might appoint to the court, but today we discovered something important about the Governor. At a time of crisis and national tragedy, he certainly proved he could be presidential.

come in. I saw a young man in a Scott Brown T-Shirt and It seemed to contain more of the Grass roots and
Ari Shperio

Yesterday I posted a bunch of photos and videos of the Nashua (NH) Federated Republican Women’s Club. The Keynote Speaker was Senator and potential VP nominee Kelly Ayotte.

At the end of her speech she spontaneously offered to take questions from the audience. I asked her one on Swatting

“I don’t agree with any effort to silence conservative bloggers or any bloggers.”

That sounds like a pretty straightforward defense of the 1st Amendment to me.

I also interviewed Congressman Charlie Bass after the event and during the interview asked him about the letter to the AG and asked him if he had seen the letter and if he was open to signing it.

“I have not seen that letter I’m certainly open to signing it. I certainly would condemn any law enforcement action of that nature as Senator Ayotte said when addressing that issue I don’t support that kind of effort to infringe upon individuals 1st Amendment rights”

I submit and suggest that every time this issue is brought before a sitting member of congress it brings it closer to the general public, and when the general public becomes informed on these events, things will start happening fast.

Again my message to the Swatter: STATES EVIDENCE NOW! Every day you wait increases the chances your allies will kick you to the curb while covering themselves.

I’m sure we will shortly see Mr. Kimberlin & Co getting Democrats on record about Swatting. After all it is natural to assume a man with the support of groups like Tides and Kerry’s foundation will have the ear of some in congress and if Mr. Kimberlin claims of being a Swatting victim are to be believed we should expect to see Democrats signing on to object to this kind of thing. Shouldn’t we?

This morning I attended the Nashua Federated Republican Women’s Club Breakfast at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Nashua NH

It is an annual event to honor women who have made a difference to the GOP

Senator Kelly Ayotte, Woman of the year Phyllis Woods and Congressman Charlie Bass

Both Rep Charlie Bass and Kelly Ayotte spoke, Senator Ayotte also took questions from the audience, I shot video of almost the entire event and will include all said video in order after the jump:
