I’ve just flown in from California, where they’ve made homosexuality legal. I thought I’d get out before they make it compulsory.
Bob Hope 1975
Those crazy Christians are at it again protesting the just punishment of one who has defied the conventional wisdom on homosexuality.
Protests are growing in Jamaica after the sacking of a leading Caribbean authority on HIV/AIDS because he testified as an expert witness on behalf of religious groups who favor an anti-sodomy law in Belize.
Oh “expert witnesses” you know about those hired hacked in courtrooms, I bet he doesn’t know the first thing about AIDS or care at all about the people who are infected right?
Dr. Bain has served as an advisor on pharmaceuticals and infectious diseases to the Jamaican Ministry of Health since 1980. He is an active member of the Pan-Caribbean Partnership against AIDS (PANCAP) and sat on its first Board. He is an inaugural member of the Trans-Caribbean HIV/AIDS Research Initiative (TCHARI), established in 2006 with support from the US National Institutes of Health. In 1989-1990, Dr. Bain was appointed by the Jamaican Ministry of Health as the first National HIV/AIDS Staff Trainer for hospital and laboratory personnel. In that capacity, he designed and led a series of on-site workshops and seminars for all categories of staff in the 21 public hospitals of Jamaica and their associated microbiology and pathology laboratories. In the 1990s, he led the first national educational workshops on HIV/AIDS for healthcare personnel in Belize and the Cayman Islands. In August 1999, he started an out-patient clinic for persons living with HIV/AIDS at UHWI and has inspired the commencement of a similar clinic at the Kingston Public Hospital.
OK so he has a background treating AIDS patients and helping those with the disease but still in this day and age people can’t just say things that gay people might find offensive, particularly in court. Things like:
“the relative risk of contracting HIV is significantly higher among men who have sex with other men in Belize than in the general population,”
If you haven’t read Prof Bain’s affidavit, I encourage you to do so. … It is difficult to find much objectionable in it. Most interestingly it doesn’t seem to take the militant stance that on one hand some Christians are celebrating, and on the other, HIV/AIDS workers are criticizing him for. For the most part the document simply makes the undisputable point that for both biological and social/cultural/behavioural reasons — the HIV virus is passed on to Men who have sex with Men with something that approaches efficiency. The figures are simply staggering…. Bain’s affidavit does not take or register a stance against gay communities or gay men. It earnestly steers clear from such opinions and tries to stick to the figures….
The full report is at Legal Insurrection in case you don’t believe that guy.
So lets recap:
A university has fired a leading AIDS expert who has spent decades fighting and studying the disease for creating a report that states something everyone including the community fighting AIDS knows is a fact.
Blazing Cat Fur asks the question:
If one can be fired from the Anglophone Caribbean’s premier University for stating a scientific fact under oath to speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth in a Court of Law, what does this imply about freedom of speech, academic freedom, and freedom of conscience and worship, not only in that University and the Governments who sponsor it, but in the region as a whole?
It implies that the gay community will do anything to conceal the fact that the primary purpose of the war on AIDS it to enable people who are deliberately behaving in a way that greatly increases the chance of catching and spreading the deadly disease to continue such behavior without consequence.
That’s bad enough but if you want to know the information that people really don’t want out there, here it is:
The odds of a man and a woman catching AIDS or any sexually transmitted disease who:.
1. Refrain from sex before marriage
2. Marry a person who does the same
3. Remain faithfully monogamous to their spouse during marriage
are only slightly better than me successfully building a working TARDIS in my lifetime.
By an odd coincidence this is exactly what Christianity teaches one should do. In other words the right thing is also the smart thing.
If you want to know what Christianity& Christian belief is being redefined by the media as “anti-gay” this is it.
