Michael Corleone: I saw a strange thing today. Some rebels were being arrested. One of them pulled the pin on a grenade. He took himself and the captain of the command with him. Right Johnny?
Johnny Olaf: These rebels they’re lunatics
Michael Corleone: Maybe so but it occurred to me. The soldiers are paid to fight; the rebels aren’t.

Michael Corleone: They could win.

One of the hardest things in this election cycle is figuring out what is actually happening as the pols and the reporting are constantly in flux.  You don’t know what to believe.

However there are tiny clues out there, to figure out what it what, this is one of them.

Last week, Scarborough and his “Morning Joe” co-host, Mika Brzezinski, visited the Republican presidential nominee at Trump Tower to rekindle a once-rosy relationship that has turned bitter and adversarial, sources with knowledge of the meeting told CNNMoney.

The three also discussed the possibility of conducting an interview for “Morning Joe,” though nothing was decided or finalized, one of the sources said. Scarborough did not respond to a request for comment.

Now one might argue this is just good business, Trump is still a ratings draw and it would behoove Morning Joe to be able to get him on again before the election.  Also as they were friends in the past there is the natural and positive desire to mend fences.

But given the sheer level of public vitriol over the last several months might there be another calculation here.

When it was considered highly unlikely that Donald Trump would win the presidency there was very little downside to the feud for the Morning Joe team.  After all you can never go wrong on MSNBC by disliking or hitting a GOP nominee for president and the louder you do so the better the MSNBC audience will like it and once the election was over the idea is Trump would make the first move once he needed publicity for something, after all business is business.

However as the likelihood of a Donald Trump presidency increases suddenly the danger of being an open enemy of the president of the United States, a president who has a reputation for hitting back, might not be a good idea for a Morning news program who may want access to the administration, particularly since the Obama administration has set the precedent of using the power of the government to retaliate against political enemies.

That being the case it not only become necessary to mend fences, but imperative to be seen to do so BEFORE the election.

There are plenty of signs that the Hillary Clinton campaign is in real trouble, but for my money there is no clearer sign than this one.

You hadn’t exactly gone out of your way to call attention to them had you? I mean like actually telling anyone or anything.’ But the plans were on display…’ o n display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.’ `That’s the display department.’ `With a torch.’ `Ah, well the lights had probably gone.’ `So had the stairs.’ `But look you found the notice didn’t you?’ `Yes,’ said Arthur, `yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying “Beware of The Leopard”.’

Douglas Adams The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy 1979 — Douglas Adams.

On Tuesday I led with a piece concerning the hilarity of crying “security” with Anthony Weiner and Huma when Bill Clinton is about to be let back into the white house. In that piece I had a quote from Donny Deutsch

Panelist Donny Deutsch guessed that Trump would have no problem counter-punching with the Epstein connection whenever he was hit for his own behavior with women, as he was last weekend in a piece in the New York Times.

“Here’s the tennis game,” Deutsch said. “Donald Trump kissed a woman in a bathing suit. Trump hits back: Tell me about the president’s relationship with a guy named Jeffrey Epstein. That’s your tennis match.”

In my original piece I had video from the Washington Free Beacon story containing that entire exchange. You might wonder why I didn’t include said video of Deutsch mentioning Jeffery Epstein and see the reaction of the people at the table.

Here is why

nbc copywright

If you look at the view count you will see that seven minute clip had over 100,000 views before NBC decided to play copyright police game.

Maybe it’s just me but given how often we see stuff at mediaite et al it seems rather unusual for a news network to make a copyright claim over a clip from a news story that used as “fair use” by another news organization. Could this suggest that NBC wants to keep this clip out of the public view because it might hurt Hillary?

I can see the NBC reaction now: Nonsense, we’re not censoring the clip at all. The seven minute clip IS available IF you

Go to the Morning Joe site

Hit search taking you to the MSNBC search engine

Search for Donald Trump

Narrow the field to Morning Joe

Narrow the field to May 16th 2016

and sit through all the videos till you find the right one.

And skip ahead to the 12 minute mark on that video.

If you do so you CAN find the clip and watch the Morning Joe panel’s reaction to what Donny Deutsch says

So,  You’ll have absolutely no problem sharing this clip with people far and wide and giving them a hint about the relationship between Jeffery Epstein and Bill Clinton and how the media views it…provided you are someone like me who

already saw the clip

remembered what show it was on

knew what day it was broadcast

And knew what time segment to look for

As for everyone else NBC says to you: Beware of the Leopard!

and if you want to fight the MSM company store join the Have Fedora Will Travel pledge drive to send me to cover Donald Trump on the road

There was a throw away line in this piece at Instapundit concerning Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s and wikileaks that jumped out at me:

What is it with the DNC and their strange stalker-like obsession with Morning Joe anyhow? Here’s video of the Obama administration emailing the show and one of Joe’s distaff co-hosts (possibly Savannah Guthrie) reading on the air a White House “correction” to their coverage back in October of 2009. That was also around the time “a ‘senior White House official’sent an email calling Joe Scarborough an ‘asshole’ for mocking Pres. Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize.”

And you thought Trump couldn’t handle criticism!

While these days my work/prayer schedule prevents me from watching the answer is actually pretty obvious to anyone who has watched the show.

Morning Joe has two things that no other MSNBC show has

A Republican host who while occasionally going off the reservation and not a big fan of Tea Party types provides a reliable conservative viewpoint on basic issues that as a rule MSNBC viewers are never exposed to.

A Democrat co-host who while a partisan Democrat is honest and cares about her reputation enough not to lie to the viewers simply for the sake of the party and is willing to question things that smell to her.

Even worse when a Tea Party conservative shows up on the show, they are treated fairly and not as a rule dismissed as some kind of loony

It’s one thing to dismiss Fox or GOP activists or even bloggers it’s another to dismiss something when the MSNBC drivetime show talks about something as legit.

For the Democrats that makes them dangerous.

That’s why I think conservatives should invest time in the show an cultivate both Joe and Mika, it’s their easiest entre to introduce news that the MSM wants to suppresses into the stream outside of Fox.

the latest in our series of posts noting the bright side of Donald Trump’s nomination for president for unhappy conservatives.

Today’s piece comes from the Morning Joe via the Washington Free Beacon:

MSNBC’s Morning Joe panel had a lengthy discussion Monday about the “uncomfortable” facts of Bill Clinton’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, the known pedophile billionaire whose jet Clinton flew on dozens of times.

Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump has been unafraid to level attacks against the Clintons for the former president’s past of sexual misconduct, calling him fair game. Fox News reported last week that Clinton flew on Epstein’s jet, the crudely named “Lolita Express,” far more than previously known in the last decade.

Now this story isn’t all that new, in fact I wrote about it two years ago and my own post was derivative of Stacy McCain’s that preceded it.

and you also might wonder why this piece goes under the “Always Look on the Bright Side of Trump” category, well take a look at the video

and two things become immediately clear.

Everybody at the Table knows who Jeffery Epstein is, and what the story is

Nobody at the table wanted to talk about it

Joe Scarborough notes he has been hearing about this for a year and a half but the fact that the viewers of MSNBC are just hearing about it now goes to something I wrote about this story in April 2014

If there is one thing the media that loves to play the War on Women® card doesn’t want to touch it’s a story about people using their own private island to get laid that involves Bill Clinton.

What could the media do if this story involving the former father of the year? They would call it old news, not relevant, dirty tricks from a salacious lawsuit that doesn’t even involve him and an attack on Hillary that crosses the line. In fact the left will deploy a plethora of adjectives to discourage further discussion of this story from antiquated to zany, but there is one adjective that could not come out of their mouth to dismiss this story:

Unbelievable

The last few years have proven that the left can convince a low information voter of a lot of things, but even the full power of the mainstream media and the strongest zealots from the War on Women® brigade would not be able to convince the American public that Bill Clinton would have no interest or business on a private island where orgies took place.

That’s why you didn’t see this story in the news last month and why as the case moves forward you’ll not see it covered period.

It’s very clear that the MSM has been sitting on this stuff for almost two years and had no intention of ever talking about it, and it even clearer that if the GOP voters had elected any other nominee MSNBC’s Morning Joe would have happily kept their viewers in ignorance.

But Donald Trump nomination throws those rules out the windows.  He’s willing to do what Stacy McCain & I Couldn’t do and what Mitt Romney and John  McCain wouldn’t do, force a story like this onto the national stage.

Mind you Trump hasn’t even bothered to say a word about Epstein yet and the table does its best to spin this in a different direction, but the very fact that Trump is who is forced MSNBC to deal with the story even if most of dealing with it was talking about Trump’s willingness to go there.

Take a look at the set of dejected faces on that video, remember those faces are being broadcast on MSNBC to liberal viewers who would never do a web search of the words “Jeffery Epstein + Bill Clinton”

Donald Trump did that and if you’re a conservative it’s a joy to behold.

Closing thought: They mentioned the word “enabler” used in the context of Hillary, would it not that word be better applied to the press who has known about these stories but have kept silent to protect their hero?

Today on Morning Joe it’s been all about “Marco Rubio and accomplishments” fueled by the inability of Rick Santorum to name one.

They’ve been all in on the “lack of Rubio accomplishments” meme that Chris Christie launched in the debate and in fairness it’s not an unreasonable argument to make about a 1st term Senator running for President.

However there is an irony here that everyone seems to miss.

Let me take you back to April of 2014 Bill Kristol is on the Morning Joe table and he asked the assembled members of the press there to name an accomplishment not of first term senator from Florida or Texas, but of Hillary Clinton a Two term senator, former Secretary of State first lady and former presidential candidate. Here is what happened.

The full segment is here.

I’ve been talking about this subject for three years and nobody in the MSM seems to be interested in it.

Unexpectedly

The good news is that both my face and web traffic have recovered. January 2016 marks the 4th straight month of recovery and the doldrums of 2014 & early 2015 seem completely behind.

The bad news is DaTipjar has not recovered to 2013 levels yet. With a $62 a day avg goal as of Jan 30th we’re reached where I hoped we’d be January 7th, just over 25%.

Given where the economy is rather than where the MSM pretends it is and that it is January both are understandable and to those who have kicked in (particularly subscribers), thanks much.

For the first time in a month I woke up at 5 AM (day off) and with daily mass in the evening I turned on Morning Joe and saw something amazing.

The discussion was why Donald Trump was perceived as he was and turned instantly to Barack Obama noting that Paris happened after he said ISIS was contained and San Bernardino happened after he said ISIS can’t strike here. The pièce de résistance was when
Jon Meacham called it a malaise among the people like the Carter years and NOBODY AT THE TABLE CONTESTED IT.

Now for people like Glenn Reynolds and myself this is no big deal, I started my (Chester) Arthur (Jimmy) Carter watch during my first week of blogging (day 4 actually Dec 2 2008)

You sometimes get a rookie pitcher with a winning season but usually not. I’m hoping for Chester Arthur but I’m expecting Jimmy Carter.

But for the Morning Anchor show of MSNBC to say this in their first hour and have no liberal at the table contest it is amazing.

What was their explanation? ISIS. People are more afraid of a terror attack then at any time since 9/11. It’s brings to mind an early episode of the original Star Trek series: What are little girls made of?

Kirk: Emotion, Ruk? You disapprove of Miss Chapel’s orders to save my life?
Ruk: To maintain your existence would be illogical.
Kirk: Why? Can’t your memory banks solve a simple equation like that? …

Just as conservative bloggers and writers have been doing our best to counter the programing that the MSM has given the public concerning the Obama administration, Kirk presses the Android Rok to see the danger to him that he has been conditioned to avoid and finally gets a breakthrough…

Kirk: The danger to you is Korby.
Ruk: I was programmed by Korby. I cannot harm him.
Kirk: The old ones programmed you, too, but it became possible to destroy them.
RUK: [Excited] That was the equation! Existence! Survival must cancel out programming.

Realizing that this administration will get them killed has finally overridden the MSM & culture’s programming.

Too bad for America they didn’t figure this out four years ago.

Incidentally I dropped Arthur / Carter watch in the first year when it became clear which one he was going to be.  Walter Russell Mead said in 2001 that Jimmy Carter was the best case scenario for Obama.  He hasn’t even managed that.

I know you can get the MSM for nothing, but that’s pretty much what most of them are worth.

Today the entire Morning Joe table from Joe & Mike to Barnicle to Katy Kay & Howard Dean etc all agreed that the Baltimore police simply can’t investigate itself on the Freddie Gray case.

They talked about credibility of the report and public perception and the relationships between those doing the investigation and those being investigated.

I have just one question:

Did any of these people for one moment suggest that this White House couldn’t’ investigate itself on Benghazi, or the IRS scandal, or Fast & Furious? Did they demand an outside investigator on the Clinton emails? I don’t remember that happening at all. I recall instead them believing the WH and saying that conservative concerns were smoke and mirrors.

While unlike last year  time didn’t permit me to grab Joe Scarborough for an interview I managed to record his speech to the crowd

You might notice Joe’s speech was the only one of the weekend I recorded in full, but that’s because I don’t get a chance to see him every morning as I used to. And yes I bumped it ahead of others so Morning Joe viewers could see it before Monday’s show

If you don’t want to wait for the individual posts you can see all my interviews from the weekend as they’re uploaded here

MSNBC doesn’t get a lot of viewers so if you are on the right you might have missed Ted Cruz who got a full 15 minutes on Morning Joe on Tuesday

Cruz did an excellent job and like Scott Walker didn’t back down and inch and did an excellent job of pitching his ideas to an audience that likely has never heard them without the left’s filter. Many fail to get how important it is to make the case to the other side you won’t persuade but a few, but that’s a few more than you had before.

It speaks well of Cruz that he was willing to go, but let me also tip the Hat to Morning Joe who had him on and gave him a full 15 minute segment to make his case.

Regular readers of this blog know I’m a Morning Joe fan who for many years did his writing with their show in the background.

During that time we constantly saw Mika Brzezinski defend the protesters who insisted the Minimum wage should be raised to $15.  Here is one example:

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

At the time I challenged her to open up her Mika Burger franchise and I repeat that challenge today.

Mika you and a group of your progressive friends should simply open up a restaurant, have a starting pay of $15 an hour for all workers and before you can say “franchise fee” Mikaburger franchise will be all over the country resulting not only a living wage for the workers but profit for Mika & her friends that can be used for all kinds of delightful progressive causes.

In fact I’d like to suggest that Seattle be the location for the first Mikaburger franchise, because I hear in that city there is a lot less competition than there used to be:

Seattle’s $15 minimum wage law goes into effect on April 1, 2015. As that date approaches, restaurants across the city are making the financial decision to close shop. The Washington Policy Center writes that “closings have occurred across the city, from Grub in the upscale Queen Anne Hill neighborhood, to Little Uncle in gritty Pioneer Square, to the Boat Street Cafe on Western Avenue near the waterfront.”

Of course, restaurants close for a variety of reasons. But, according to Seattle Magazine, the “impending minimum wage hike to $15 per hour” is playing a “major factor.” That’s not surprising, considering “about 36% of restaurant earnings go to paying labor costs.” Seattle Magazine,

“Washington Restaurant Association’s Anthony Anton puts it this way: “It’s not a political problem; it’s a math problem.”

Now one might think that such news might discourage Mika & people like her but it doesn’t matter if there is snark from Twitchy:

To Hotair

McDonald’s has been experimenting with point of sale automation for taking orders and Applebee’s rolled out smart tablets at tables in multiple locations last year. The latter solution is the most interesting to me because it seems like the easiest for younger consumers to adapt to. Most of the people going out to eat in such places are already familiar with laptops, tablets and smart phones anyway. Having one waiting at the table which takes the place of not only the menu, but the waitress as well, isn’t going to come as much of a shock to the system.

To Quando.net

Welcome to the land of $17 dollar cheeseburger. And, as you can figure out fairly quickly, everything else will be more expensive too … which, of course, erodes the purchasing power of that $15 wage. More importantly, if you work for one of those establishments that is closing, your wage is $15 times zero hours, isn’t it?

These naysayers and their math are no match for the combined effects of the power of progressive thinking plus the bonus of a restaurant fronted by a liberal celebrity in a liberal city anxious to prove her right.

So Mika the field has been cleared, go boldly forward and prove us wrong!  It should be a cinch.

Shouldn’t it?

“I’m making fun of liberals who say ‘Republicans don’t believe in science’ if they don’t believe Florida will be underwater by June 5th.”

That’s a #Bazinga & I would have tweeted it as such but Twitter is only 140 characters.

Remember for all the times he can drive us nuts Joe is one of the few people who make the conservative case to an MSNBC viewer.

“My job is to bring up issues that Americans care about. It’s my responsibility to ask the tough questions. No matter whose leading the country they need to be held accountable. I have unique access to the president, his advisers, the candidates and members of congress. I’d better use that access for a greater good, use it for people who can’t get through the White House Gates, for people who can’t be heard. The American People deserve answers”

Chuck Todd NBC 2013

Beverley Hofstadter: an adult Jewish male living with his mother is so common it borders on sociological cliché.

The Big Bang Theory, The Maternal Capacitance 2009

Yesterday all over the net conservatives where having a field day gloating about Mark Pryor’s inability to state how Barack Obama has done handling the Ebola Crisis.

Indeed it was a telling moment but folks are missing the true point of the story.

This question is being put to him because he accused Tom Cotton in August of essentially being pro-Ebola, just as Cotton’s fiendish financier masters demand. Pryor made it an issue in the election so now here’s MSNBC letting him follow up by tossing him what they thought would be a softball. Oops. Pryor being Pryor, though, I wonder how much of this ummmmming is doofishness and how much is him hurriedly trying to calculate how a red-state Democrat should respond. Do you pander to conservatives by bashing O or do you pander to the liberals whom you desperately need to turn out?

Do you see it? The headline isn’t that Pryor couldn’t decide on tossing Obama off the bus or not, the headline is the softball question. Look at the video:

It’s bad enough that Mika is calling this a “A sweet, little, nice, gentle question” or saying, “She asked a gentle she was just being honest and the guy just collapsed!”, listen to what the reporter says in response to Mika’s words:

“I’m actually not sure I thought he would have a yes or no answer” and “Ah well you know like I said I was a little surprised they were so difficult, because he had aired this ad on Ebola late in August accusing his opponent Tom Cotton of not doing enough tn fight to fight global pandemics. So I you know I expected he would I guess more of the…it was a news of the day question.

She’s not denying that she was tossing him a softball, in fact she’s practically apologizing that he couldn’t handle it as if.  Hey it’s not like I was trying to challenge a Democrat running for the US Senate.

Take another look at the first video I post with the question to Cotton the Republican, nothing softball there.

Everyone is getting a laugh here because Pryor looked like a doofus,  but the story here is:  It’s apparently the Job of NBC reporters on the road covering a critical Senate races to toss democrats softball questions, not a particular Democrats being unable to answer it.

When we laugh at the batter’s inability to hit a fat pitch rather than be outraged at the supposedly neutral pitcher deliberately throwing him a fat pitch with the game on the line we are doing exactly what the media wants.

You should be outraged, unless of course you are so used to it that it doesn’t phase you anymore or don’t really give a damn..

Update: Hogewash gets it

KERRY’S ROLE IS TO MAKE HILLARY LOOK GOOD IN RETROSPECT.

Glenn Reynolds Instapundit April 9th 2014

Turned on Morning Joe today and Joe Scarborough was hitting on one of my pet peeves people pretending they aren’t running for president. It is really annoying & he hit both Hillary & Jeb Bush on this (the real reason they don’t announce btw is because the fundraising rules change once you’re running officially.)

However at the end of that sequence Jeremy Peters of the NYT said something so…amazing, that I couldn’t believe my ears.

At Joe’s bemoaning the lack of substance in Hillary’s presentation Mr. Peters suggested that Hillary “should run on her foreign policy credentials.”

Funny he doesn’t look like he was born in 2013.

We’ve been talking about this subject here for a long time so I welcome Jeremy Peters to the table.

and if he can do what Doug Mataconis, Andrea Mitchell , attendees at a Democrat event and John Heilmann & Mika Brzezinski at that very table couldn’t do: That is:

Name an accomplishment of Hillary Clinton as secretary of state

we’d all be delighted to have him do so.

Closing thought: Don’t forget John Kerry was the guy the left wanted in Charge instead of George W Bush.

If that’s not worth $20 a month I’d like to know what is?

As I’ve made clear for a long time my preference in the NH GOP senate primary is someone other than Scott Brown (If I had a vote it would go to Senator Bob Smith) but this piece at Talking points memo is absolutely ridiculous.

Instead, he said, his job is to get the government out of the way.

Brown made the comments at a town hall in Hudson, New Hampshire on Wednesday. The comments were flagged by the opposition research shop American Bridge 21st Century. His comments were in response to a question about what he would to do bring jobs to New Hampshire.

“Here’s the thing, people say, what are you going to do to create jobs? I am not going to create one job, it is not my job to create jobs. It’s yours,” Brown said. “My job is to make sure that government stays out of your way so that you can actually grow and expand. Obamacare’s a great example. The number one job inhibitor is Obamacare.

While on Memeorandum this piece has gotten little interest… (Which begs the question how it made Memeorandum)

tpm

…MSNBC’s Morning Joe thought it significant enough to play the video

and as you can see it Barnicle treated as a gaffe and nobody called him on it.

Now as any person with any sense who knows even basic economics knows Brown is exactly right. It’s not the government who creates jobs. They can make policies that help or hinder the job growth but the only way the government “creates” a job is to take money away from the actual job creators or the wages of those they pay.

Yet the Democrats, even with a RCP avg showing Shaheen at nearly 50% in a Matchup vs Scott Brown

rcpnh

thinks so little of their base that they expect to win votes with this story.

If that’s not a reason for the sensible people of NH to abandon Shaheen, I’d like to know what is?

Exit question: If the GOP candidate isn’t polling better than 42% despite a big campaign chest & support from the national party, might it be a better idea to nominate a candidate that likewise knows the Government doesn’t create jobs but won’t cause the pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment base to stay home?

As I’ve already said Joe Scarborough has been a friend to this blog and to DaTechGuy on DaRadio and if anyone expects me to throw him under the bus it’s simply not going to happen, Sicilians don’t do that.

That being said when it comes to his statements on Israel the last few days I think Joe is very wrong on several levels.  Allow me to explain in some detail the fallacies:

1.  The blame game:

Kay:There’s always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser, or a Corillian Death Ray, or an intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable little planet

Men in Black 1997

Joe’s initial comments concerning Israel came before the latest Hamas violation of the cease-fire but the problem he runs into is beyond that:

The United States of America — we cannot be associated with this if this continues. This is so bad, not only for the Israeli people, but for us.

The argument here is that it hurts the United States to be associated with Israel because of these actions but  However it doesn’t matter what Israel does o how far they go they are to blame.

If they invade to take out the tunnels they are to blame for invading.

If they shell or use airstrikes to stop the rockets they are to blamed for the shelling

If they do not shell but merely cut off the cement used to make the tunnels

And if they do nothing and simply take Rocket fire then they are to blame because they don’t’ allow Hamas to pass the checkpoints into Israel.

Simply ask yourself if anyone internationally cares that Russia has been supporting Assad what kind of condemnation did they receive for this?

The bottom line is this:  It doesn’t matter what Israel does or doesn’t do the left & the arab world will consider it a criminal state and will attack the US for supporting it.

2.  The poor innocents:

Balton: If you love your brother, you must shelter him, hide him, protect him from the Mentiads. Remember what happened to your father.
Mula: My father didn’t fall into the hands of the Mentiads.
Balton: No
Mula: He was shot by the Captain’s guards.
Balaton: To save him from the Mentiads. At least he died a clean death. It was an act of mercy by the Captain.
Kimus: Oh well, thank you, O merciful Captain, for so kindly having Mula’s father shot down in the street like a dog.
Balaton: Listen, Kimus, let me tell you this. I would cheerfully strangle Pralix with my own hands to save him from those, those

Doctor Who: The Pirate Planet 1978

The second bit of nonsense in his argument involves  civilian casualties

“This continued killing of women and children in a way that appears to be indiscriminate is asinine. . . .

Note the point being made, the reality that if Israel was targeting civilians there wouldn’t be 1500 dead but 150,000 dead by now, but we are not supposed to react based on the reality but what “appears” to be reality.

If you want to see reality take this quote from Hillel Neuer via Yid with Lid:

If in the past year you didn’t cry out when thousands of protesters were killed and injured by Turkey, Egypt and Libya, when more victims than ever were hanged by Iran, women and children in Afghanistan were bombed, whole communities were massacred in South Sudan, 1800 Palestinians were starved and murdered by Assad in Syria, hundreds in Pakistan were killed by jihadist terror attacks, 10,000 Iraqis were killed by terrorists, villagers were slaughtered in Nigeria, but you only cry out for Gaza, then you are not pro human rights, you are only anti-Israel.

Now in fairness Joe has in fact talked about the deaths in Egypt, and in Syria and in Afghanistan but a large chunk of the people currently all over Israel have not, as far as they are concerning the hundreds killed in Syria, the Christians expelled by ISIS and the woman stoned to death and even the shooting of “collaborators” is a non-story.

In fact the #1 target of the various Islamic groups have always been their fellow Muslims and/or arabs who simply aren’t the right type of arab or muslim.

This leads to another logical conclusion:

The left and the Arab worlds concern for the dead innocents in directly proportional to their ability to blame Israel and/or the west for said deaths.

3.  Oh what comes next:

Jacob Woodling:  Quiet! Brigham Young has twenty seven wives and he hasn’t had half the trouble with them that I’ve had with the two of you!
Elizabeth: Then simplify your life, Jacob. Sell me.
Jacob Woodling: But Elizabeth: you don’t know what you’ll get.
Elizabeth:
I know what I’ve had.

Paint Your Wagon  1969

Joe’s other point is the fear of what comes next:

As much as we all hate Hamas, what is going to replace Hamas is going to be much worse. It is going to be a radical Islamist group instead of just power-hungry, corrupt people that despise Israel.

AllahPundit (via Stacy) made dismisses Joe’s argument thus:

If you take the “whatever comes next will be worse” logic to its ultimate conclusion, though, you’re forever left defending whichever bunch of degenerates is in charge at the time. Israel can’t oust Hamas because then Al Qaeda might take over; if Al Qaeda takes over, Israel can’t oust them or else ISIS might move in. If ISIS moves in, Israel can’t oust them or else a portal to hell will open in the ground and Hitler and Bin Laden will emerge from the earth to rule Gaza together.

It’s not a bad as far as it goes but given what we’ve seen in Egypt, Syria & Libya over the last couple of years I find it an insufficient counter Joe Scarborough’s point.  One could credibly make the case the world would be better if there had been no revolts in any of those three states.

The actual error in Joe’s reasoning is actually illustrated by this seemingly unrelated post from Elder of Zion noting that the world (and Israel) is pretty much ignoring the rockets currently being shot from the West Bank:

The Abu Nidal Brigades of Fatah’s Al Asqa Martyrs Brigades helpfully gives us a tally:

34 N103 missiles .
173 107 missiles .
32 Grad rockets.
53 120 mm mortar rounds
23 80 mm mortar rounds
14 60 mm mortar rounds
One RPG-7 .
Moltka anti-missile shields.

At least three other Fatah terror groups have also fired rockets at Israel.

Why is Fatah doing this,  because of a simple fact:

A senior Fatah official told me earlier this week in Ramallah that Fatah has felt obliged to fire some rockets against Israel, lest it be seen as collaborating with the Jewish state.

This is Fatah’s defense for war crimes – because they don’t want to look too peaceful to their own people!

Think about that for a second, the supposedly moderate Fatah, the people who are simply interested in living large off of their own corruption and the foreign aid that pours in feels obliged to attempt to attack Israel to prove to their people that they are interested in killing Jews.

That’s the dirty little secret, if there was an election in the west bank, in Gaza on peace or war with Israel, the vote would be overwhelmingly for war.

The same would be true if such a vote took place in Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iran Libya  and even Iraq.  The people are overwhelmingly in favor of destroying the Jewish state.

And let not forget what protesters across Europe are saying:

Residents of Frankfurt and Dortmund were horrified in mid-July to see neo-Nazi groups join hands with left-wing Islamists in a grim chant: “Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas.” The center of London was blocked on July 19 by thousands who gathered in front of the Israeli embassy in Kensington to shout their hatred for Jews.

Not to mention Amsterdam, the city of Spinoza, Europe’s capital of tolerance, where in certain neighborhoods it has become practically impossible to wear a yarmulke in public without running the risk of being insulted or assaulted.

At the Tablet they really nail it:

Rahman Azzam Pasha, the head of the newly formed Arab League, spoke for his “honor group” when he threatened that “if the Zionists dare establish a state, the massacres we would unleash would dwarf anything which Genghis Khan and Hitler perpetrated.” As the Armenians had discovered a generation earlier, the mere suspicion of rebellion could engender massacres.
Instead a group of Jews who survived Hitler’s ovens not only were not massacred but defeated the arabs again and again from 1948 all the way to 1973 (notwithstanding Egypt’s self-delusion celebration of their “victory” in that last war.  For a culture based on honor or saving face that is intolerable which is why 70 years later these people are still considered “refugees” )
If the refugees from this Zionist aggression disappeared, absorbed by their brethren in the lands to which they fled, this would acknowledge the intolerable: that Israel had won. And so, driven by rage and denial, the Arab honor group redoubled the catastrophe of its own refugees: They made them suffer in camps, frozen in time at the moment of the humiliation, waiting and fighting to reverse that Zionist victory that could be acknowledged. The continued suffering of these sacrificial victims on the altar of Arab pride called out to the Arab world for vengeance against the Jews. In the meantime, wherever Muslims held power, they drove their Jews out as a preliminary act of revenge.
It’s no accident that arab nations are pretty much Judenrein and remains the explanation for every problem in every arab state to wit:
Ahmed Sheikh, editor in chief of Al Jazeera, blames Israel for the lack of democracy in the Arab world:

The day when Israel was founded created the basis for our problems. … It’s because we always lose to Israel. It gnaws at the people in the Middle East that such a small country as Israel, with only about 7 million inhabitants, can defeat the Arab nation with its 350 million. That hurts our collective ego. The Palestinian problem is in the genes of every Arab. The West’s problem is that it does not understand this.

Sheikh’s conclusion is not that ending the fight with Israel might lead to democracy, but rather that once the West lets the Arabs win against Israel, then they’ll build democracies.
Note that phrase, “letting them win”, as if they would have destroyed Israel if it wasn’t for the west, let’s not forget that during the 1967 war Egypt & Jordan openly debated if they would claim their air forces were decimated by US & British troops because it could not be conceded that they were crushed by mere jews.
And let’s top of this point with from this quote from Commentary via  Carl from Jerusalem:
The M-75 is a technological marvel–a homemade medium-range rocket capable of striking Tel Aviv, developed despite stringent Israeli import restrictions aimed at preventing Hamas from doing just that. It’s a purely offensive weapon with no defensive purpose, and Palestinians love it. An enterprising Gaza merchant even named a perfume after it two years ago, when it was first deployed, and Reuters reported that sales promptly soared.
It all adds up to this bottom line:  No matter who is in charge in Gaza their ultimate goal will be the destruction of Israel and the death of the Jews and anyone who doesn’t understand this is deluding themselves.
Joe’s primary worry is a Hamas victory in the PR department but that really can’t be helped due to the simple fact that Israel given the choice of destroying their enemies or containing them has chosen the more difficult containment option which does occasionally involves  destroying the arabs  ability to shoot at them and that Hamas given the choice between live Palestinians and dead ones that harm Israel’s reputation will choose dead ones every single time.
Until Palestinian and islamic culture changes that’s simply how it is.

All in the family 1976

Yesterday while I was looking at twitter a person I follow Dr. Pat Peters PhD tweeted out a joke picture hitting Senator Clinton:

Now I’ve bow to nobody in my disdain for Hillary “$100,000 reward if you can name an accomplishment of mine” Clinton and I like a good joke but that hit me the wrong way.

She running for President of the United States, not for movie star in chief. Her job is not to have Lynda Carter’s legs at 66 but in fairness…

and quipped:

Well the next day I turned on Morning Joe and the lead topic was Hillary Clinton and the talk was all about her appearance on Jon Stewart’s show. Showing clips about the shape of the office he wanted to have, the shape of her office etc etc etc.

The show spent five minutes talking strictly how she successfully played the gimme joke that Stewart fed her on no substantive subject. They never did get to anything that actually mattered concerning Mrs. Clinton except fundraising.

So when Pat was making light of Mrs. Clinton’s legs, apparently he wasn’t just making a superficial point. He was actually making an argument in the wheelhouse of the low information voters who can’t name an accomplishment of Hillary’s. An argument that the liberal viewers of Jon Stewart and Morning Joe care about come election day. He knew the reality better than I did.

So Dr. Pat, I owe you an Apology, you were right.

*********************************************

A series of short thoughts to start this day.

Because I’ve been attending Morning Mass I’ve been missing Morning Joe lately turned it on this morning and immediately the story of Pope Francis meeting with abuse “survivors”. The table commented on him being the first Pope do to so and critiqued Pope Benedict for his “inaction”.

The second statement on Benedict a canard as anyone who has followed the scandals would know if they used any other source than the MSM. However as the show quotes the NYT often there is no excuse for not knowing the former:

Pope Benedict XVI came face to face Thursday with a scandal that has left lasting wounds on the American church, holding an unannounced meeting with several victims of sexual abuse by priests in the Boston area.

Listening to the Francis Good Benedict Bad refrain is like reading Animal Farm’s “four legs good, two legs bad”. Both are good VERY good.

FYI the word “survivors” is odd word here, it implies a person would normally die from an activity. Words mean things, victim would be a much better English.

Speaking of language according to the stats according to 3 out of the 4 victims of Catholic clerical abuse were boys, yet nobody talks about it as a “gay” scandal. Doesn’t fit the narrative.

FYI a lot of people keep insisting that if ONLY priest didn’t have the celibacy requirement this scandal might not have happened. One must assume those making that argument will be shocked ShOCKED by this scandal:

Mr McKelvie, a former child protection worker, prompted police to launch Operation Fernbridge to investigate allegations of sex abuse Elm Guest House in Barnes, south London, after providing information to MP Tom Watson. In 2012 Mr Watson spoke in the Commons of a “powerful paedophile network linked to Parliament and Number 10”.

If ONLY members of Parliament were allowed to marry and were not required to be celibate, I’m sure this would have never happened.

Oh, there are two interesting coincidences concerning this scandal in England, one will seem very familiar:

The UK Home Office has admitted that it can’t find 114 “potentially relevant files” relating to the pedophile scandal engulfing Westminster, in which there are allegations that senior political figures were involved in, or covered up, child sex abuse.

I’ve heard this somewhere before

Loughton also said that to lose so many files “smacks of incompetence or, I fear, some degree of cover-up.”

Some degree of cover up? Who other than Democrats on Elijah Cummings committee and the Democrats in the White House would buy the “incompetence” line?

By an odd coincidence Instapundit notes the release of this study out of England:

The statement that paedophilia is “natural and normal” was made not three decades ago but last July. It was made not in private but as one of the central claims of an academic presentation delivered, at the invitation of the organisers, to many of the key experts in the field at a conference held by the University of Cambridge.
Other presentations included “Liberating the paedophile: a discursive analysis,” and “Danger and difference: the stakes of hebephilia.”

I’ve been writing about this trend for a while as has Stacy McCain and has been for a decade. This is going to get a lot worse before it gets better because it’s always easier to redefine sin than to change behavior.

The city with the strongest gun laws has once again showed the effective of gun laws:

Extra police officers on Chicago’s streets were not enough to quell a long weekend of violence that ended with 14 people shot to death and dozens more injured.

During a Monday news conference, just hours after two more people were shot to death earlier in the day, Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said his department’s best efforts could not prevent the bloodshed that spiked dramatically on Sunday. Chicago’s total of 53 shooting incidents for the holiday weekend easily eclipsed Detroit and New York combined, which had a total of 46 shooting incidents, 10 of which were fatal.

As long as the gangs are politically valuable to the pols in the city they will not be cracked down on and until that is done this will not change.

Fighting back tends to work as the Ukrainian government is discovering. in the Ukraine. A few months ago taking back cities:

It was one strike in a scrappy war of raid and counter-raid at which the highly motivated pro-Russian fighters excelled – and which appeared to be locked in a bloody stalemate.

That resistance crumbled suddenly and in the early hours of Saturday morning, following several days of artillery bombardment to which the rebels had no answer.

Gathering their remaining tanks and fighting vehicles, Igor Strelkov, the rebel commander, and his men made a desperate dash for Donetsk, the regional capital 60 miles to the south where the self-declared People’s Republic had established its government.

Just a few months ago the conventional wisdom was Eastern Ukraine would fall. With the west unwilling to help the Ukrainians have decided that they would have to settle things themselves and now it’s Russia who has to decide if it’s worth fighting a way for eastern Ukraine.

Somewhere Ron Paul is smiling.

Some Doctor Who? The newest season of Doctor who premieres in a month featuring the first full episode of Peter Capaldi as the 13th Doctor picking up from where this scene left off

Unfortunately for the BBC some of the scripts for the new season have leaked to the internet

Five scripts from the upcoming season of Doctor Who have made their way to the Internet following a security breach at BBC and now the network is asking fans of the show to look away from spoilers.

The BBC is asking people not to share those scripts and it seems the fans have agreed. My oldest son, who is if you can believe it a bigger doctor who fan than I am, recieved those scripts them in an e-mail. He deleted them.

Personally if I was a virus writer this would be a golden opportunity as I suspect that most US fans will not be as circumspect in refusing to open or download such an attachment.

Let’s close with some fun I noticed the stories about the Hawkins Index to see how far people have actually read in books.

It brought to mind a story from my high school days. I was in an honors English class and was assigned a long paper on the Brothers Karamazov. I put off reading the book and put it off until the night before the paper was due I realized I hadn’t even started the book let alone the paper.

So I read the first 20 pages and between midnight and 6 AM managed to crank out a paper based on that. I even took the typewriter to school (yes this was in the pre-pc age) and kept typing right up until my first period english class where only my teachers polio induced confinement to a wheelchair prevented her from seeing me bring the typewriter into the room.

I got an “A” I still don’t know how I did it.

Mr Ford Well… er… you’re a rich man.
Charman Knebter: Yes, I am. Yes. Yes, very very rich. Quite phenomenally wealthy. Yes, I do own the most startling quantifies of cash. Yes, quite right… you’re rather a smart young lad aren’t you. We could do with somebody like you to feed the pantomime horse. Very smart.

Monty Python’s Flying Circus Blood Devastation Death War & Horror 1972

I turned on Morning Joe this morning and while I was impressed at the entire table (except Al Hunt) insisting that the IRS scandal was a test for the press (a refreshing change) but while that is important what really caught my was Joe & Mike on Hillary insistence that she really isn’t rich.

Joe was quoting a high-ranking Democrat about tone deafness and said the problem was Hillary has spent her last 40 years having someone else wait on them and get her coffee.

As this is going on Mika suddenly turn behind her and starts ordering coffee in excruciating detail, while on a split screen Mark Halperin is trying his best not to crack up.

this caught my eye because my non-political son was in the room as he was getting ready for work, saw this and was cracking up.

I turned to him and expressed surprise, he doesn’t watch the news and only knows Morning Joe in passing from me watching it.

His answer was classic: You don’t have to follow politics to see what they were doing.

And that is the real crisis for Hillary Clinton, people who don’t follow politics one bit get the absurdity of this (it’s also why the IRS scandal is bad news in the long run for Obama but that’s another piece).

If Hillary Clinton words are causing non-political folks to laugh a her this is going to come back to haunt her.

Closing thought: Does anyone think for one second Bill Clinton would make this mistake?

The time has come to ditch the weekly goal to focus on the monthly figure, that’s where the real action is at.

In order for this to be a viable full-time business this blog has to take in enough to make the mortgage/tax payment for the house (Currently $1210 monthly) and cover the costs of the writers writing here (another $255)

As of this writing 7 AM EST we need $1278 to meet this goal by April 30th.

That comes out 51 people kicking in $25 over the rest of the month or basically three people a day.

I think the site and the work done here is worth it, if you do too then please consider hitting DaTipJar below .

Naturally once our monthly goal is made these solicitations will disappear till the next month but once we get 61 more subscribers  at $20 a month the goal will be covered for a full year and this pitch will disappear until 2015.

Consider the lineup you get for this price, in addition to my own work seven days a week you get John Ruberry (Marathon Pundit) and Pat Austin (And so it goes in Shreveport)  on Sunday  Linda Szugyi (No one of any import) on Monday  Tim Imholt on Tuesday,  AP Dillon (Lady Liberty1885) Thursdays, Pastor George Kelly fridays,   Steve Eggleston on Saturdays with  Baldilocks (Tue & Sat)  and   Fausta  (Wed & Fri) of (Fausta Blog) twice a week.

Andrew: you madam, have had the… rare privilege of escaping your bonds for just a spell. To see life from an entirely new perspective. How you choose to use that information is entirely up to you.

Overboard 1987

Since last year I’ve been writing about the inability of people on the left to name an actual Hillary Clinton accomplishment as Secretary of State.

Today Bill Kristol illustrated this inability on a grand scale.

Appearing on MSNBC the subject of Hillary 2016 came up.  Kristol contrasted her with Sen Claire McCaskill and challenged the table to name a single accomplishment of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State.

John Heilmann & Mika Brzezinski were sitting at that table so it should have been no problem for two professional journalists who have talked about Hillary’s inevitability for months to snap off an answer.

They did not.

Heilmann declined saying he would leave to the Hillary campaign as if it was not the job of a reporter to say such a thing, Joe Scarborough picked up on meme and repeated the question.  Chuck Todd danced around speaking of the difficulty of making the case as Hillary’s style is more subdued, not as visible as John Kerry.

When John Heilmann had a 2nd chance to speak the best he could come up with in the time he had to think, mentioned Hillary Clinton’s extensive travel,  as if she was the first Secretary of State to ever travel all over the place.

Meanwhile the great champion of woman’s issues Mika Brzezinski never said a word..

For a conservative like me this Hillary hilarity was priceless moment of comedy but for a liberal activist it’s something more serious, it’s a crisis of faith.

Picture being a member of the MSNBC partisan audience base sitting there at home watching. You’ve always taken the question of Hillary’s qualifications and accomplishments as a given. Suddenly you’re confronted with Bill Kristol’s direct question. A question so simple you’re tempted to laugh, instead you sit there in tongue-tied disbelief unable to answer yourself and watching the best and brightest of MSNBC fail to provide an answer for you.

That’s when the awful reality hits you.

The reason professional political reporters, people who have followed Hillary Clinton for decades and spent the entire Obama presidency sitting on that MSNBC set talking the issues of the day can’t name a Hillary Clinton accomplishment as Secretary of State off the top of their head, it’s because she doesn’t have any.

How such a person reacts to that revelation, anger toward Kristol for asking the question or re-examining what they’ve been told will say much about who that person is.

Update: The Morning Joe Site no longer supports subclips so here is the full segment

What makes it even more dramatic is John Heilmann scoffs at the idea that McCaskill is more qualified than Hillary Clinton and that’s when Bill Kristol asks the $64,000 dollar question:

“What achievement, one sentence, was did Hillary Clinton done, what is her achievement in politics that qualifies her to be President of the United States?”

Look at the faces it’s speaks volumes.

Update 2: Here is the sub clip from Youtube it’s absolutely wonderful

Update 3: I’ll be Guest Hosting Conservatively Speaking this weekend and Mr. Kristol will be joining me in the 8 AM hour to talk about the Hillary segment.

Update 4: Ed Morrissey

What’s even more amusing is the suggestion that we should wait for Hillary’s next book to tell us what her qualifications are. Clinton has been in the public eye since the Clinton days in Arkansas, 30 years ago. She ran for President in 2008 after eight nondescript years in the Senate, and then served four years as Secretary of State in a tenure bookended by the embarrassing “reset button” with Russia and the Benghazi failure that left four Americans dead. If she had a major accomplishment in all of that time, we wouldn’t need a campaign biography to discover it.

REMINDER: In 2009, Barack Obama “Joked” About Having The IRS Audit His Enemies.

Glenn Reynolds

Media-Scales-590-LIBack in January the Bridgegate™ scandal broke and the media devoted hours and hours to the coverage to the exclusion of all else.  The coverage was so excessive  that Vladimir Putin could have taken Crimea, Ukraine and the Baltic states and it might have rated a line at the bottom of page A-16 or 30 seconds at the bottom of a newscast.

So yesterday when Randy Mastro’s press conference began to announce the result of his investigation every news network turned to it cutting away from the President in Europe

In connection with allegations related to the George Washington bridge realignment we found that Governor Christie had no knowledge aforehand of this George Washington bridge realignment idea and he played no role whatsoever in that decision or the implementation of it. We further found no evidence that anyone in the governor’s office asides Bridget Kelly knew of this idea in advance or played any role in the decision or the implementation of it.

It wasn’t long after the words came out of his mouth that MSNBC cut away and had a commentator dismissing these results and dismissed Randy Mastro as a hired gun for Gov Christie and not independent. As I noted at the time:

CNN carried the press conference a little longer but then continued along those same lines. This was a legal team hired by Christie and should be taken with a grain of salt.

The next day Morning Joe spent practically the entire show dismissing the findings of but suggesting Christie would have been better off not having the press conference.

This has become the MSM media meme:

CBS Headline: Christie-Appointed Lawyer: Governor Not Involved In George Washington Bridge Plot

Yahoo News: Christie cleared in his own probe, but others loom

Huffington Post: Chris Christie’s Lawyer To Issue Traffic Scandal Report

UPDATE:  The New York Times:

A Whitewash for Gov. Christie
The best example?   TPM’s headline which calls this “Christie’s Self Exoneration Panel“.

Ironically at TPM you can find another headline that is getting a lot less press: Oversight Dems To Issa: Drop The Charade And Let’s Do Some Real Work.

Because we all know the internal investigation of Benghazi was beyond reproach.

It’s seems strange to me that TPM and the rest of the media seem to have variable standards when it comes to internal investigations.  Let’s take the IRS…

The head of the Internal Revenue Service told House Republicans on Wednesday that it would take years to provide all the documents they have subpoenaed in their probe of how the agency handled tea party groups’ applications for tax-exempt status.

The comments by IRS chief John Koskinen drew a frosty response from Republicans who run the House Government Oversight and Reform Committee, one of several congressional panels investigating the controversy. The panel’s chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., warned him he should comply with the request “or potentially be held in contempt” of Congress, a sometimes threatened but seldom-used authority.

…they didn’t find this story particularly newsworthy.  It didn’t generate a whole lot of talk on Morning Joe either, in fact I don’t recall any, but why would it?  After all the internal investigation headed by an Obama donor leaked it was unlikely there would be any criminal charges filed and the president himself said there was no corruption involved.  Where’s the story there?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: This is a gift to the GOP.

If I was a member of the GOP I would go on every morning & afternoon show that I’m invited and when questioned about this report and investigation say something like:

Well I think it’s very fair to question the credibility of an investigation commissioned by those who are being investigated like the IRS scandal for example when a political donor to the president leaked that there was unlikely to bring criminal charges even though we have people repeatedly taking the fifth in that investigation, or in the Benghazi investigation where the political allies of the White House are insisting congressional investigations be dropped

When they bring up Christie interview with Dianne Sawyer they should compare it to the President’s statement to Bill O’Reilly that there was “not even a SMIDGEN of corruption.” No matter what direction the question comes, some variation of these answer should be the response.

This is a gift to the GOP if they are smart enough to use it.

Closing Thought: What would the reaction of the MSM be if Chris Christie had  “joked” about using lane closures to punish mayors who didn’t support him in 2010?

Update 2: Via Glenn, Howie Carr reminds us we don’t have to go to the Obama Administration to find Democrats presumed innocent

Oddly, however, the hacks rounded up over the last few days, well, let’s put it this way. They voted for Obama 100 percent. They think Obamacare’s great. How could they possibly be guilty as charged?

I was incredibly anxious to watch Morning Joe today.

After yesterday’s signals concerning Fl-13 and the unexpected GOP win this had the potential to be the most entertaining MSNBC broadcast I’ve seen since coming home at 3:45 AM with Stacy McCain and Dan Collins in time to see Keith Olberman melt down over Scott Brown’s Massachusetts win.

To their credit the Morning Joe table, particularly Mika Brzezinski did not sugarcoat or spin this race (with the exception of Axelrod) as anything other than a disaster for the democrats. In the 7 AM Hour Chuck Todd went deeply into the polls they had done suggesting that Alex Sink was the better candidate with the right message and was doing well with independents.

The moment he said this bells started to ring in my head as a  piece I linked earlier from the Miami Herald blog came to mind:

Whoever gets his base out wins. That’s pretty cliché. But it’s true.

Ask Alex Sink. Her campaign did a great job of messaging to independents and crossover voters.

That sounds an awful lot like a special election campaign we had in Massachusetts last year when the party backed Gabriel Gomez because of his supposed appeal to independents and Democrats.

Meanwhile Mr. Jolly took a different approach:

It’s a swing district. But the Jolly campaign focused more heavily on Republicans and a Republican message.

Sink surrogates talked about climate change and oil drilling and abortion. Jolly was more red meat. There was lots of Obamacare talk and messaging.

Hold on, are you telling me that Dave Jolly’s plan to win in FL-13 was to appeal to and turn out the GOP base?  No wonder the establishment GOP hated his campaign:

Their frustration had been mounting for weeks. But by late January national Republicans had had it with David Jolly, their candidate in Tuesday’s nationally watched Florida congressional special election.

The candidate had just told the state’s top political reporter that he disagreed with an ad the party was airing against his Democratic opponent — a spot paid for with the nearly $500,000 the GOP had already spent on Jolly’s behalf.

I mean it’s one thing to run against Obamacare but to run against illegal immigration:

While Democrat Alex Sink candidly ran on the open borders agenda by disclosing that the motivation behind amnesty is so that we can all keep our housekeepers, Jolly categorically rejected amnesty. He ran an ad proclaiming that he is “in favor stronger borders. Not amnesty.” In a tight race, you don’t waste time or money on ads that don’t have a central issue at stake.

Standing on conservative principles, rallying the base, attacking amnesty,  Presidents McCain and Romney and Senator Gomez and every member of the rotating GOP establishment that appears on cable will tell you that’s not how it’s done.

Lucky for David Jolly he didn’t listen, instead he took the advice of Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin & Rand Paul from  CPAC 2014 who all said that standing on good conservative principles inspires the base and wins elections,.

Yesterday David Jolly won doing just that I hope that the GOP will look at candidates like Karen Testerman in NH and be wise enough to figure it out.

Closing thought:  All over the media the question is being asked if Democrats will learn the lessons of this race.  It would seem at least one has:

Heading into the governor’s race, Crist has an Obama team guiding him, and he has been moving farther and farther left now that he’s a Democrat. He seems to understand base elections.

I esteem cow dung more than I do Charlie Crist but nobody knows how to survive more than vermin.

Sherlock The Empty Hearse 2014
(with thanks to Planet Claire for the transcript)

In this business it’s impossible to keep track of everything going on.  Once in a while something falls through the cracks for me it was the special election in Florida 13.

I may have heard the names of the candidates in passing and as I recall the democrat said something embarrassing a bit ago on immigration, but if you asked me on Sunday about the race I could tell you nothing intelligent about it.  Nor have I had time to search the web for any info.  All I know is what I’ve seen in passing on twitter and on Morning Joe today.

Both have been interesting lessons in the balance of probability.

Let’s start with twitter,  yesterday I saw the following tweet from Greg Sergeant of the Washington Post The Plum Line:

One of the things I’ve learned in these last five years is how the media tends to work to advance a meme to set expectations.  It is almost axiomatic that when a race’s national implications are downplayed by a side it means that side is doing poorly.  Given the balance of probability being familiar with Mr. Sargent’s writing & the content of that tweet I drew the following conclusion:

It was a reasonable assumption, but the reason why it is called the balance of “probability” rather than “certainly”  is once in a while things fall outside of it.

It turns out Mr. Sargent was part of a longer conversation with Rick Wilson a fellow out of Florida I follow whose opinion I trust.  In the full context of that conversation they both agreed this would not be a test of Obamacare.  Mr Sargent brought this to my attention & further tweeted…

It’s a tad embarrassing to be wrong but it’s also pleasant to see a MSM stalwart reporting rather than spinning.  I’ll keep that in mind the next time I read a Sargent tweet.

……..

24 hours later  I turned on Morning Joe and saw this segment leading the 8 AM hour on Fl-13.

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

I found several things interesting about their Fl-13 coverage:

1. This story led the 8 AM hour (which means it opened the 6 AM hour) Given the amount of news out there from the Malaysia Airline disaster to Ukraine to the “Climate Change Palozza) I was surprised to see how much prominence the story was given.

2. The segment talks about what this race means in terms of Obamacare as an issue but Alex Sink unlike the Senate Candidates in trouble for the left was not in congress when Obamacare was passed so she doesn’t have to defend that vote.

3. The libertarian candidate who is apparently in some polls pulling as much as 13% was not mentioned in this segment.

When I went to the Morning Joe site to get the video above I discovered that FL-13 was part of the opening segment of the 7 AM hour as well kicking in 6 minutes into the start and took up the rest :

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

It seems strange to me that you can do 12 minutes on FL-13 and what it means nationally and not point out there is a 3rd party candidate libertarian.

It also seems strange to turn this a race into a referendum / test case on Obamacare and it’s defense without pointing out the Democrat Candidate Alex Sink is one of the few democrats in a key race with no direct connection to Obamacare.

Given the function of MSNBC & the fact that Morning of Joe is the first political show of the day the balance of probability suggests that the White House & MSM expect Alex Sink to win that race. It further suggests the purpose of Tuesday’s Morning Joe segments is battlefield prep establishing a meme for 2014.

If I’m correct then tomorrow, barring some incredible news story like the resignation of president Obama or Miley Cyrus entering  a convent Morning Joe will lead with the Alex Sink victory in Fl-13 and spend multiple segments in every hour talking about how it means the tide has turned on Obamacare for democrats, and the rest of the drive by media will not only pick up that story and run with it for the rest of the day but will point to this race as an example of how things as not as bad for the left in 2014 as the GOP & polls would have you believe.

I think that’s the plan, and it will be up to the GOP turnout efforts in the district to foil it.

Given my error concerning Mr. Sargent’s tweet you might think it odd that I draw such conclusions without more information, maybe the GOP will pull it off, maybe the left is overly optimistic, maybe the libertarian will poll way below expectations all of those things could happen, but the thing about the balance of probability is this, while things sometime fall outside of it over time it tends to assert itself.

It’s 11:08 EST right now. In less than 20 hours we’ll find out if I’m right.

Update: PPP had the race 48 Sink, 45 Jolly & Overby 6 and yet David Jolly managed to pull it out. winning 48.5% of the vote with 46.7$ for Sink and & 4.8% for libertarian Overby.

Given the amount of attention they gave this race today Morning Joe is going to be REALLY interesting tomorrow morning.

Today on Morning Joe a fraud was perpetuated on the viewers during Mike Allen’s Politico segment.

The topic was GOP establishment strength in primaries in 2014.  Jazz Shaw touched on the subject at HotAir this weekend:

it just may turn out that McConnell is finding some room to relax. Chris McDaniel has made some gains in Mississippi, but it looks like Thad Cochran is still holding enough of a lead to feel comfortable. Of course, that primary isn’t until June and a lot can change between now and then. Milton Wolf has definitely eroded Pat Roberts’ favorability numbers in recent months, but the last polling we’ve seen still shows Roberts with a two to one advantage.

As for the long game of McConnell and Matt Bevin, well… what can you say? That 55 to 29 spread doesn’t seem to be budging.

I’ll have a lot more to say about McConnell’s CPAC  2014 later this week, but it’s certainly fair to say the Tea Party primary candidates including ones I supported like Dwayne Stovall have failed to carry the day, however the GOP establishment had one huge advantage in the 2014 primary cycle that they did not have in 2010 season. The silence of the movement’s most popular member, Senator Ted Cruz.

Ted Cruz stills Wednesday 013
For those who have forgotten here is what Cruz said to the Dallas Morning News back in August:

“It is likely that I am going to stay out of incumbent primaries across the country, either supporting incumbents or opposing incumbents.”

and while the MSM called this a poke in the eye to incumbents to harm them as I said at the time

The reality is he is doing exactly the opposite.

Cruz knows better than anyone how an endorsement from the #1 Tea Party draw changes a race:

What would be the fastest way to build name recognition, to raise money for a run when the interests in the state are afraid of being on the wrong side of the sitting senator in the room?

A Ted Cruz endorsement.

Cruz’s deliberate inaction was the single biggest gift he could give to the GOP establishment during the primary season and senators from McConnell on down know it.

On Morning Joe that wasn’t the reality that was discussed when Mike Allen came on for the Politico Playbook segment

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Watching that segment a viewer would have no idea Cruz announced months ago that he was staying out of incumbent primaries this cycle.  That a sin of omission but at the very end of the segment  Mike Allen crosses the line from ignoring the lede to outright deception.   After Joe Scarborough notes Cornyn’s solid primary win sans a  Cruz’s endorsement Mike Allen closes the segment saying.

and then senator Cruz courageously endorsed Senator Cornyn the next day.

and it’s not just the use of the mockingly false adverb, but how he does so.  I’ve cut the segment to the final 25 seconds look at Mike Allen’s face as he sells the line.

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Yeah I know it’s MSNBC,  yes I know Mike Allen is a Journolist guy so perhaps this kind of mendacity shouldn’t bother me…

…but I’ve gotta tell you such a bald-faced deception of the audience is a dishonorable act  and there is at least one person on that set who that should bother a lot.

Joe Scarborough has his name on that show and I’ve already written that he makes it a point to treat his audience well, particularly at personal appearances and he’s can’t let something like that go.

It’s one thing to throw an ignorant insults as Mike Barnicle & Mika did to Sarah Palin (which Joe called them on) . That’s cheep but  in the end such insults demean the person making them more that the target.

It’s quite another thing for a regularly featured guest on the TV show that’s bears your name to under the guise of news,  misrepresent and misinform the audience to the actions of a sitting senator. That’s unfair to the senator, unfair to the viewers and unfair to the host who welcomes you to the show.

I was pleased to see in the 8 PM replay the Allen segment was cut to remove the entire conversation on the subject.  I’m also pleased it wasn’t removed from the online segment since pretending it never happened would be a second deception.

I think Allen owes Joe and the viewers an apology and  correction tomorrow or at least a clarification. You want to sell a point of view, that’s fine, we all have them, but if you are going to do so do it honestly.

Amy: Yes Doctor the press, asks questions and the president answers them that’s what’s supposed to happen.

The 11th Doctor: No Amy that not what they’re supposed to be doing, it’s not remotely what they’re supposed to be doing, well I mean to say it IS what they are supposed to be doing, but it not what they are supposed to be doing.

The Doctor, Obama & the Press Corps Sept 14, 2012

This morning on Morning Joe Mika & company continue to go all in on the war on women hitting Mike Huckabee & now Rand Paul for daring to suggest that a party who celebrate a person who used his authority to get sex from a young subordinate has no business talking about a “war on women”.

Somehow despite my best efforts the case of Democrat State Rep Carlos Henriquez who stubbornly retains his seat in Massachusetts after being CONVICTED two weeks ago of assaulting a women who refused to have sex with him and being told by the judge at sentencing.

“When a woman tells you she doesn’t want to have sex, that means she does not want to have sex.”

…has not become part of the entire “War on Women” narrative.

Now some might call this a local issue but those same people who do never fail to report on the latest escapades of a certain chubby mayor in a completely different country.

So lets play a game of imagination.  Let’s take our TARDIS & fly to an alternative reality where instead of Carlos Henriquez being a Democrat Hispanic Representative from Boston  he’s a  republican state Rep from St. Louis Missouri and examine what the time line of events concerning him would have looked like:

July 2012:   Missouri State Rep Carlos Henriquez (R-St Louis)arrested in St. Louis & charged with Kidnapping & assault of a young women after she escaped his car in the wee hours of the morning.

July 2012:   The St Louis Post dispatch does a front page story on the Missouri Republican and his rise to power in a strong republican district.

July 2012: The Claire McCaskill re-election campaign denounces representative Carlos Henriquez and calls upon him to withdraw from the race and cites him as an example of the GOP war on women and calls on GOP candidate Todd Akin to demand Rep Henriquez’s immediate resignation & withdrawal.

July 2012: Around the Morning Joe table the next day Mika Cites the Henriquez case as yet another embarrassment for Rep Todd Akin campaign with women. David Axelrod brings up Henriquez in context of the GOP War on Women and calls on the Mitt Romney campaign to not only denounce him but demand that Todd Akin withdraw for not doing so.

July 2012: Later that day Mitt Romney at a stop in Florida is asked about Henriquez, he makes a statement saying that while he doesn’t want to prejudge the accused rep guilt not knowing the case, given the seriously of the charges calls on Rep Henriquez to withdraw from the race

July 2012: the MSM picks up the meme and on CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS & MSNBC shows Henriquez is made the posterboy for the entire War on Women theme and candidates nationwide including Scott Brown in Massachusetts are asked about it. Elizabeth Warren calls it the most extreme example of the GOP war on woman.

July 2012: Rachael Maddow has Sandra Fluke on her show to talk about Henriquez and how he represents all republicans. Demands the RNC not spend any money on candidates in Missouri until Rep Henriquez has resigned and withdrawn from his race.

July 2012: Jon Stewart & Steven Colbert pick up the story with the caption: Henriquez: enemy combatant, war on women

July 2012: On all the Sunday shows Henriquez is brought up, National GOP Chair Renice Priebus is asked Henriquez by David Gregory on Meet the Press.

July 2012: The National GOP & the Missouri GOP jointly endorse Rep Henriquez opponent in the state race and vow to do all they can to defeat Mr. Henriquez if he refuses to resign and withdraw.

July 2012: After a week of overwhelming national pressure Rep Carlos Henriquez resigns from the Missouri house in order to devote full time to his defense.

Aug-Nov 2012: When the subject of the “War on Women” is brought up Carlos Henriquez is cited in the list of GOP offenders.

Jan 15 2014: The day after Carlos Henriquez is sentenced to 6 months for Assault all the morning shows and evening political shows bring up the Henriquez case and ask how it will affect the midterms for the GOP.

I challenge any honest person to dispute that this is what we would have seen.

Update:  Ed Morrissey on the Rand Paul stuff:

Yes, let’s judge Hillary on her talents and vision. Let’s mull over all her accomplishments in the US Senate … and when you find some, we’ll do that. How about her tenure as Secretary of State? It started with a badly translated “reset button” that presumed all of our troubles with Russia were George Bush’s fault, and ended with four dead Americans in Benghazi after Hillary and Barack Obama turned Libya into a failed-state playground for al-Qaeda. Her final assessment of Benghazi? “What difference, at this point, does it make?”

The only real argument for Hillary as a presidential candidate is Bill Clinton nostalgia. Paul was just reminding us of why even that is hypocrisy on stilts.

Update 2:  Welcome Jawa report readers. You can see my larger post on the subject here,   Listen to my rant about it on Saturday’s radio show below here

and my interview with the Mass GOP chair talking about this on the radio show the PREVIOUS SATURDAY here:

Henriquez came up at 11:30 in the interview remember that was Jan 18th

Olimometer 2.52

It’s Monday we’re $12 toward our $345 weekly goal.

Normally this would be a cause for worry but as we’ve already made the monthly goal I’m a tad less tense about it.

But given that I’ve just purchased my Airfare & hotel for CPAC 2014 which will run me about $800 not counting any meals  anything that puts a dent in that is certainly welcome.

So I would ask you to consider hitting DaTipJar to get me a little ahead.

Only 55 3/4 more subscribers @ at $20 a month are necessary to secure the cost of DaMagnificent Seven & my monthly mortgage on a permanent basis. If you think blogs like this willing to highlight the double standard of the Democrats & media online & on radio are worth it, please consider subscribing and suggesting a friend do so as well.

On Friday Morning Joe did three segments (in fairness one was a repeat) on Mike Huckabeee remarks concerning how Democrats look at women.

I found the segments fascinating,  concentrating on the pluses they played the full remarks in context at the beginning of both segments so regardless of whatever else I thought of what they said the viewer had the chance to hear the words as said as opposed to certain reporters who after the left pushed a lie around the world “clarified” what he had said in context

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

But from that point on the emphasis was all “Uncle sugar” & “libido”. The point he was making was in MSNBC Shtick, it wasn’t till the end where Joe Scarborough make the point that nobody is telling me Mika et/al didn’t get in the first place.

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Then in the middle segment they took the liberty of repeating that same performance with a different crew and throwing in the Governor Cuomo story that they managed to ignore until they had a person to put up at the same time.

The whole point of the segments were that the GOP is hopefully out of touch with women as opposed of course to Democrats.

That theme was continued in the Atlantic:

The creepy, condescending-uncle image, the retrograde attitude toward sex: Huckabee managed to illustrate exactly the phenomenon he was trying to decry, the perception that Republicans don’t know how to talk to or about women.

Washington Monthly:

The Mike Huckabee brouhaha yesterday offered about the 155th recent opportunity for non-conservatives to observe that the “rebranding” exercise of the Republican Party isn’t going that well.

and The American Prospect:

Ignorance: These kinds of statements tend to come from older conservative men who have no idea how ladyparts work, and really don’t want to know. That extends to contraception, which as far as they’re concerned is something that is women’s responsibility and therefore there’s no need to understand it.

and the Democrat party wasted no time creating a web video clipping the speech to make it wildly out of context:

The bottom line those nasty republicans are unenlightened when it comes to women.

Which brings us to Massachusetts State Rep Carlos Henriquez:

You haven’t heard of Representative Carlos Henriquez? Well in July of 2012 he was charged with Kidnapping and assault of a woman. In Sept the kidnapping charge was dropped but the other charges remained pending.

Strangely enough this took place at the height of the entire “War on Women Meme” was being advanced by the press however as Mr. Henriquez has a (D) next to his name the media didn’t find those charges reflective of the War on Women meme so not only did it get very little press, but even with the charges hanging over him he ran for re-election and won by 46 points! in his overwhelmingly Democrat Boston district.

The media’s disinterest continued on the subject as he served then on January 14th Henriquez was convicted of two counts of A & B on & sentenced to 2 1/2 years with 6 months to serve. The next day the Mass GOP called on the Governor to demand his resignation

“The MassGOP calls on the state’s leading Democrat, Governor Deval Patrick to immediately demand the resignation of Representative Carlos Henriquez. If the resignation is not tendered right away, there may not be adequate time for a special election and thus robbing the good people of Dorchester representation on Beacon Hill.”

Three days later I had the Chair of the Massachusetts GOP on my radio show and we marveled at the fact Mr. Henriquez was still a state rep.

MA GOP Chair Kirsten Hughes: …again absolute power corrupts absolutely and that just Henriquez is just one example of a long line of them.

DaTechGuy: and just to make sure that our listeners to make it clear he’s actually been convicted and sentenced to jail.

KH: That’s right six months yea

DT: this isn’t just a person whose been accused now he’s been convicted and sentenced, and we keep hear about the Republican “war on woman” yet we have a guy here, a state rep whose actually assaulted a woman and you have the chair of the republican party in Massachusetts who happens to be a woman calling for his resignation and the governor…

Joe Mangiacotti: won’t do. He was sentenced Wednesday to six months in jail that was…

KH: Yeah

JM: … what happened there. Ahem According to police he choked and punched Catherine Gonzalez in the Summer of 2012 that was his, he took her for a ride and took her cell phone she was, drove her to Boston she was able to escape the vehicle and call the police and that’s what…

DTG: It Boggles the mind

four days later Adrian Walker at the Boston Globe, to his credit, wrote the following about Mr. Henriquez:

It’s been nearly a week now since the Dorchester lawmaker was convicted of assaulting a woman who had dared to refuse to have sex with him. She was a college student who met him working on a class project; somehow she ended up assaulted and stranded on the side of the road at 4 a.m. after jumping out of his car. Henriquez didn’t testify or make any statement after the verdict.

A judge sentenced him to six months in the Suffolk County House of Correction with the words, “When a woman tells you she doesn’t want to have sex, that means she does not want to have sex.”

If that doesn’t establish Mr. Henriquez credentials as a belligerent on in the “war on women” nothing does but in the best traditions of the Democrat Party & Bill Clinton …

Henriquez plans to appeal his conviction. That’s his right, but his pursuit of an appeal raises the terrible prospect that he plans to hang on until it’s denied or even until he gets out of jail. Either would rate a high place in the annals of political selfishness. The fate of his constituents should not be tethered to his long-shot appeal.

The House, of course, can kick him out. But the Ethics Committee process is opaque and convoluted. The committee would have to conduct its own investigation of Henriquez’s misbehavior. Sure, the trial transcript could substantially shorten that process. But the fact is, a convicted criminal shouldn’t have to be expelled.

Even though he appeared at a house hearing this week in handcuffs I have to ask Mr. Walker is this:

Why WOULD Mr. Henriquez even consider resigning?

The media in the middle of a national election with a “war on women” meme found a Democrat pol charged with assault and kidnapping not significant enough to warrant national attention. His heavenly democrat district re-elected him by 46 points. Democrats in the state didn’t find his being charged sufficient ground to call for his resignation and apparently his conviction hasn’t prompted those calls either. Update:

The conviction prompted a chorus of calls for his resignation. Governor Deval Patrick, House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo, and Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh all called for him to resign, and DeLeo said he was taking steps to expel him, if he does not step down.

And now It’s Sunday and while the national media and the professional left take glee at the remarks of Mike Huckabeee Carlos Henriquez remains a state representative because he knows that nobody in the national media will take any note…

…not as long as he has a D next to his name.

Here is my take on the subject from Yesterday’s show

Exit question. If Henriquez was a republican would there have been any other story in the news until he resigned and was denounced by every single GOP person in the universe on camera?

Bonus question:  If you argue that Henriquez is a “local story” explain the coverage of Bob Filner of California or Mayor Ford whose in a different damn country!

Update: finished the “nasty republican” sentence that was hanging

Update 2: Remember Henriquez’s arrest took place in the middle of the Brown/Warren race I wonder how many time Elizabeth Warren talked about a Republican “war on women” vs the amount of time she called on Democrat Carlos Henriquez to drop out of his race?

Update 3: Kathleen Parker says “It’s all how you say things” but what if like, in the case of Democrat Carlos Henriquez, the media won’t say anything?

Update 4: An alternative timeline plus a correction above of some post conviction calls for resignation. Funny you would thing the arrest & charges would have been enough to start the chorus.

It’s Sunday the start of a new pay week spanning the end of this month and the beginning of the next one and I start the week in an unusually enviable position.

My monthly goal has already been reached I’ve already transferred the funds to pay the Jan mortgage (which will be done later today) and have begun paying my Magnificent Seven their well deserved fees for their excellent pieces.

However complacency is not called for.  The business has been carrying some credit card debt.  A weak week will decrease it, a week as spectacular as last week’s would half it.

So I would ask you to consider hitting DaTipJar to get me a little ahead before February begins

It not usual that I lead on a Monday no less with the post for the weekend’s show.

But it’s not every day you have the host of a Morning Show of the big three Cable channels on your show for 45 min.

You can listen to my interview with Joe Scarborough during my first hour (he came in at :15 Here

You can also buy Joe’s book here

If my second hour we had DaMagnificent Panel this week with Chip Jones, Fausta (of my Magnificent Seven) and in the Bob Beckel Chair Mike Hummell the blue barnstormer. You can hear that 2nd Hour here.

And each of my three promoted a particular post.

Fausta’s post is titled It’s not racism, kid, it’s just plain grammar

Ah, for the days of Dean Wormer. . . Students at UCLA’s Graduate School of Education and Information accused a professor of racial discrimination after the professor corrected their grammar:

I hope people will correct these future engineers and Doctors when they screw up in those classes.

Chip’s Post is titled Enhanced Interrogation: Obama Covers Extraordinary Rendition in Benghazi

The picture that is emerging, and being confirmed by sources close to Conservative Reports Online, is that the two Delta operators had delivered a HVT who had been apprehended to the compound. Although there was a large contingent of Green Berets working out of the Compound as their base of operations, the only remaining Green Beret was their “Communications Officer” who reported the attack, in real time, to the appropriate authorities and joined the fray defending the Compound.

Oh boy heads of Obama fans must be blowing up on this

And Mike Hummell piece is Hey #WalmartElves, Shut Up and Get Back to Work!

Elves are not supposed to complain about working conditions. At least not @Walmart. They are supposed to stock the shelves, clean the floors, run the register, and smile like a happy face. But under no circumstances are they to have opinions in public. They definitely don’t need Tumblr or Twitter accounts with which to share their unwanted opinions.

Free speech is free speech, it’s got to be respected

Remember my panel rotates monthly so you’ll have a whole new group next week.

FYI one more thing. I’m sure there are a few people here who are saying What the hell are you doing promoting that Rino Scarborough book? to this lest me say several things:

1. In terms of the show and the blog. No matter what you think of MSNBC or Joe he is the named host of a morning drive show on one of the big three national Cable news shows. That’s a get particularly if you are a guy who five years ago was doing Tech Support and three years ago went on the air first the first time. It says something about this blog and this show.

2. And this is not the first time Joe Scarborough & done this. I’ve hit him and his show hard for YEARS yet he did an interview with me last year on video, and (as he revealed on the show gets my commentaries every week which only goes out to those who who hit DaTipJar). Sicilians never forget a favor.

3. If anyone thinks I’m going to be less conservative or more quiet about my opinions or my agenda you haven’t been paying attention.

Update: One more thought. The thing that most threatens the left are stories breaking through beyond their filter. Conservative blogs are a strong driver for this. There is nothing that legitimizes a news source to low information voters like.

1. Call letters next to a name in the media
2. Acknowledgement by media names recognized by them.

Every time either of those things happen to a conservative blog one more chip is broken off of that wall.

There is one side effect of Chick Fil-A’s policy of not opening on Sunday that isn’t talked about much.

Because Chick-Fil-A is closed on Sunday the business that normally would go to Chick-fil-A goes elsewhere.

While that business likely isn’t as big as the rest of the week and there are likely a few people for who no chicken sandwich can replace Chick-fil-A (personally I think the spicy fillet at Wendy’s is better) There are a lot of small eateries that are very grateful to not have to compete with Chick-Fil-A for at least one day a week.

MSM in general and MSNBC In particular is a lot like Chick-fil-A on Sunday to conservative sites. Ignoring stories and giving us the business

Case in point, Project Veritas and the Obamacare Navigator story:

Last week we had three posts on the subject of Project Veritas’ video showing navigators advising people to lie concerning their income including an exclusive interview with Daniel Francisco recorded before the release of the first video.

Since that time a second interview has been released with more navigators illustrating that Juan Williams not withstanding, this wasn’t an isolated incident.

And Saturday I interviewed Daniel again on DaTechGuy on DaRadio

and yesterday Project Veritas tweeted us that more is coming…

But if you aren’t reading conservative site, or watching fox news or local news in Texas you still haven’t heard of this.

Just like the breaking Census scandal. This broke Monday Night at the New York Post. Yesterday the census department said this:

“We learned about the information today, and we’re reviewing the information contained in that article,” said Luiz Santos, the acting director of the division of congressional liaison and communications in the Department of Labor’s inspector general’s office. Santos said he could neither confirm nor deny whether the IG’s office had opened an investigation.

Zero hedge put it well:

Following the White House’s ignorance of anything that could be going on at the Census Bureau (apart from knowing for sure that the report on jobs data manipulation was misleading), the Census Bureau itself has chimed in…

*CENSUS BUREAU SEES NO ‘SYSTEMIC MANIPULATION’ OF JOBS DATA

So that’s good then – just unsystematic?

So this is the first they have heard of it and even if it happened it is “unsystematic”.

Not according to the latest from the post today:

I don’t know how high up in the Census Bureau the orders to fake employment survey data came from, but the director of the Philadelphia region was aware of those charges against one of his field representatives back in 2010.

Fernando E. Armstrong, the regional director at the time, admitted as much in an internal Census report I have reviewed.

And that field representative, Julius Buckmon, who filed as many as 100 fake reports a month — and admitted to me faking household survey reports — was not the only field rep to do so, according to a Census source.

Lets review:

1. We have a report of fraud to manipulate labor states before an election
2. a statement by the Census bureau saying they just heard about it and it’s not systematic
3. A follow-up report that directly contradicts the statement of the Census bureau.

There is a word for a story like that: Newsworthy

But not if you are the MSM, not if you are MSNBC and not if you are Morning Joe who has yet to find either of these stories worth their time.

Perhaps  this  might because they like to spread the wealth. Because they leave these stories to sites like mine they give us traffic and visibility. They are simply trying to help the little guy by giving us a chance by giving people a reason to visit us and hit or tip jars.

However a more cynical person you likely conclude this is because they don’t want to change the Obamacare story focus from the web site and certainly not wanting to deal with fraud before the president’s election. They want to protect this administration & this president.

Hmmm maybe they ARE like Chick-fil-A. It’s all about loyalty to the religion of liberalism and to their God.

Update: The new Veritas video is out:

I’ll have more to say about this tomorrow.

Chris: There’s a job for six men, watching over a village, south of the border.

Bernardo: How big’s the opposition?

Chris: Thirty guns.

Bernardo: I admire your notion of fair odds, mister.

The Magnificent Seven 1960

Yesterday Protein Wisdom:

The rhetorical ground is already being set, with these two races its supposed proofs: look at how well Chris Christie did in a blue state! Look at how Cuccineli’s extremism lost us Virginia!

And PJ Media

Every GOP mainstream politician and consultant will spend the next few months completely incapable of saying little more than “Chris Christie!” They will have polls-OH!-will they have polls. Everyone will be taken as undeniable proof that Christie can beat Hillary, the zombie apocalypse, and the 1927 Yankees once time travel is a thing.

told us what the post election spin would be today and on Cue Morning Joe is going on today both about Ken Cuccinelli made told you what the MSM would say the lessons of VA & NJ are. If only Cuccinelli was not so extreme, and Chris Christie proved how the GOP can win in a blue state and is the model of 2016.

Let’s start with NJ

Chris Chrsitie won by 20+ points and a lot of credit has to be given to his policies and himself in winning that state at all, let alone by 20 points. He was and is clearly better for NJ than the democrat and the voters recognized it, but what nobody talked about until election day itself was in a state where National Democrats decided not to play:

From President Obama, who twice toured New Jersey with Christie after Hurricane Sandy and then failed to endorse Christie’s challenger

Hold on President Obama didn’t even offer a pro-forma endorsement of the Democrat Pro-abortion woman?

to the Democratic National Committee, which sent just one staffer to the state to fortify local efforts,

The DNC sent one staffer?

to major donors and high-profile party leaders such as Bill and Hillary Clinton, powerful Democrats have stayed on the sidelines in the blue state contest

(A cynical person might consider this the pro-quo for that arm the week of election day but I digress)

Well while the left and Morning Joe (which usually likes quoting the Daily Beast didn’t find that story newsworthy they DID report on the exit polls in NJ that showed Chrsitie doing well in all demographics.

There are some significant stats that give good news to the GOP nationally which I’ll talk about tomorrow but lets note the following, Chris Christe won men by 37 pts & women by 15 pts in the poll. He won latinos by 6 pts and took 21% of the black vote in a sample that approves of Obama with 51%.

All of that speaks well of Chritie who has done a good job in NJ (The 85% approval of the job he did with Hurricane Sandy.) but of all the stats from that poll, here is one that makes all the difference in the world.

The pollsters asked who would they support in 2016 Hillary Clinton or Chris Christie.

Well that should be an easy one. You have a poll of voters who just voted for Christie overwhelmingly this has to be the most favorable polling sample possible sample for Chris Christie. If Christie is going to win NJ for the GOP in 2016 he has to win this sample:

Christie

Christie loses to Clinton by 4 points, FOUR POINTS?

Excuse me? You have a race where no democrat money was spent, where you have photos of Barack Obama with an arm around Chris Christie, and a polling sample of people who voted for him by over 20 points and thinks he did a great job and from that sample he couldn’t outpoll Hillary Clinton in New Jersey?

I’m sorry The lesson is clear: If Chris Christie can’t outpoll Hillary with those advantages what does that say about his chances of winning democrats elsewhere when the full power of Democrat party and the MSM against him are slim and none and slim left town.

This is a trap set for the GOP in 2016 if they fall for it then it’s all over.

Now lets look at VA.

After leading by double digits for weeks Terry McAulffe managed to beat Ken Cuccineli by 3 points. The Narrative is he lost because he is a tea party candidate.

It is fair to say that in VA where so many gov workers the shutdown hurt the GOP (never mind the back pay voted meaning those workers essentially got a paid vacation) but here are some stories that got very little note.

Before Obamacare, before the shutdown Robert Stacy McCain said this

If Bob McDonnell had resigned Monday, there was about a 50-50 chance Cuccinelli could somehow change the subject between now and November and pull out a narrow win over McAuliffe. Every day that McDonnell remains in office, those odds diminish.

This is fact, not opinion.

Odd that the GOP wasn’t willing to do something about this to help out their candidate for Governor.

Then there is the libertarian who had an interesting source of funding:

A major Democratic Party benefactor and Obama campaign bundler helped pay for professional petition circulators responsible for getting Virginia Libertarian gubernatorial candidate Robert C. Sarvis on the ballot — a move that could split conservative votes in a tight race.

Campaign finance records show the Libertarian Booster PAC has made the largest independent contribution to Sarvis’ campaign, helping to pay for professional petition circulators who collected signatures necessary to get Sarvis’ name on Tuesday’s statewide ballot.

Now this is a tactic that people in elections have been using for years but it’s funny that it didn’t break until the day before the election and not in any MSM venue? Even odder was that the MSM didn’t even bother to mention the 3rd party candidate much until yesterday and Today Cokie Roberts had the audacity to claim it didn’t hurt the parties equally.

Yeah that’s why the Democrats funded him. Even Joe Scarborough wasn’t buying that.

Then there is the social conservative argument, the MSM contends that Cuccinelli’s social conservatism doomed him but there was an interesting story that got no press yesterday:

Del. Scott Lingamfelter, a Republican, said he received a robo-call on Sunday evening claiming that Cuccinelli supports the Affordable Care Act and taxpayer financing for abortions.

Cuccinelli vehemently opposes Obamacare, as the law is commonly known. He was the first state attorney general to challenge the law in court. He is also strongly opposed to abortion.

The recording said the Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA) paid for it, Lingamfelter wrote in a post on his Facebook page.

“They are shameless in their lies,” he wrote. “I guess they are trying to suppress GOP voters” in the governor’s race.

Tell me if Cuccinelli’s pro-life position was a problem for him why does the left bother to spend money? That’s a good question and I’d love a good answer.

*****************************

Finally lets look at the GOP establishment and their actions, or shall we say inaction:

Four years ago the national GOP spent 9 million dollars in VA to elect a GOP governor. This time around?

They spent 3 million.

Now the idea that Terry McAuliffe Mr. UBER fundraiser was able to outspend Cuccinelli is not a surprise but the idea that the GOP cut their spending in the state by 2/3 well that wasn’t received well:

WE COULD HAVE WON THIS RACE. FOR THE REASONS I HAVE EXPLAINED HERE AND ON THE AIR, GOP ESTABLISHMENT AND DONORS LEFT THE FIELD. NOW, NOT ONLY THE LIBERALS BUT THE RINO MOUTHPIECES CONTINUE WITH THEIR MANTRA ABOUT THE DEAD TEA PARTY AND THE RINO FUTURE. ABSOLUTELY APPALLING! (And they did not spend even $3 million, that was a phony number.)

RT@seanmdav: In 2009, the RNC spent $9M to win VA by 17 points. Looks like it’ll have spent $3M in 2013 to lose by a hair. Dummies

Well that doesn’t prove the establishment wasn’t behind Cuccinelli I mean it’s not like popular GOP candidates didn’t show up for him to campaign.

Huh? I remember in 2012 Christie showed up to support Ovide Lamontagne in NH I covered him there.

Christie went to NH to campaign for Ovide and REFUSED to take a day during a race he was winning by 20 points to campaign for Cuccinelli?

I think that’s incredible, we are constantly told that Tea Party republicans need to hold their noses and stand by GOP moderates as I did with Mitt Romney and Gabriel Gomez. This tells me that as far as the GOP is concerned the opposite is not true.

So what is the lesson of Virgina? It’s this: To the Establishment GOP (and to Chris Christie) a victory by a Bill Clinton Democrat like Terry McAuliffe is preferable to a Tea Party candidate winning the governorship of Virginia.

In February after the GOP convention where the establishment used some interesting tactics to defeat a tea party candidate in Massachusetts I left the GOP ON camera

and wrote

If the party wants me and people like me they’ll have to earn me. When the GOP can convince me that they are serious about growing the party, when they convince me they are serious about treating the tea party et/al as valued members as opposed to a source of temp labor and occasional funds. I’ll be happy to return to the Republican Party in as public a fashion as I’ve just left it.

If the GOP is wants to be a minority party that gets their share of graft rather than a majority party that reforms the government this is the way to do it.

Update:  Via Instapundit

VIRGINIA: Did The GOP Blow It Because Of Fear of the Tea Party?

Short answer YES.  The details:

it’s hard to deny the conclusion that the Republican party decided it was better to abandon Virginia to the Democrat party than to allow the Tea Party and social conservatives to win.

Here they are:

  • The Republican National Committee spent three times as much in 2009 on the same race as they did this year.

  • The Chamber of Commerce spent one million dollars in the last Governor’s race, and not one dime on Cuccinelli.

  • While its often claimed that Tea Party candidates do poorly among independents, Cuccinelli actually won independents by 9 points, 47 percent to 38 percent.

  • “McAuliffe outraised Cuccinelli by almost $15 million,” and in the last weeks of the campaign, this left Cuccinelli with nearly no media exposure.

  • Even Politico wonders if Cuccinelli was beginning to turn the tide against the “War on Women” narrative, as he drove down McAuliffe’s lead among women from 24% in polling to 9%.

We’ll remember.

Update 2:  For some reason the left hasn’t found Ramesh Ponnuru all that quotable today:

The “party establishment” (to simplify) is putting some of the blame on the shutdown, and the anti-establishment conservatives are putting a lot of the blame on the former’s stinginess; Cuccinelli’s campaign manager is blaming both. The results in the state legislative races, and the possible victory of Mark Obenshain in the AG race, make it hard to credit any theory that the Virginia electorate is just hostile to conservatism in general, or to social conservatism in particular.  (emphasis mine)

I wonder why?

Update 3:  Jonah Goldberg NAILS it

For all the talk about how the base needs to cooperate with the establishment more, it’s worth remembering that the base almost always does its part on Election Day. Its the establishment that is less reliable in returning the favor.

Because the love our votes but love the K-Street spending more.

Update 4: Dan Riehl:

I don’t care if you want to blame the RNC, the RGA, the NRSC, the media and young dumb Republicans like a Josh Holmes, Brian Walsh and Brad Dayspring who live to run to it to get their names in print bashing their own base.

The fact is, the establishment GOP cost, not just conservatives, but its own damned party the governorship in Virginia.

Someone, or some few people need to be held to account and yes, some heads should roll. Now, all they want to talk about is ObamaCare. As far as I’m concerned, there’s a little unfinished business to address before we get there.

Update 5: Mark Levin vs Renice

Apparently Christie will have time to campaign for Lindsey Graham.

Olimometer 2.52

It’s Wednesday and I need 13 tip jar hitters of $20 to make my $305 paycheck.

With the need to support myself and cover Chris, Vin, Harry & Bernardo next week it’s not a good sign.

But you can change that, if you think this analysis is worth your while please consider hitting DaTipJar below

If you are a person has listened to Rush Limbaugh for any length of time you know he is famous for montages of liberals/media repeating various memes that expose them for what they are. So if you were to hear something like this…

…on Rush’s show you would not be shocked.

But when you have MSNBC’s Morning Joe playing that video….

….on the show that normally leads with the left’s spin of the day, you know this isn’t going away anytime soon.

Be afraid democrats, be very afraid.

On Morning Joe today (where you go to find out what the left wants to say) there were two stories that seemed unrelated but taken together could mean an awful lot.

The first was a story out of Florida, the Transformation of Charlie Crist is now complete:

Charlie Crist is running for Florida governor as a Democrat.

The worst-kept secret in politics was confirmed Friday afternoon when the Republican Party of Florida spotted Crist’s official filing with the state Division of Elections.

The former Republican governor turned Democrat plans a formal announcement at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Petersburg’s Albert Whitted Park, 480 Bayshore Drive SE, but the state GOP beat him to the punch.

Crist is a poster boy for what I described last week when talking about political parties as fraternal orders:

It’s not the Elks, the Eagles or the Lions club. All are decent clubs that do good things but there really isn’t much of a difference between one or the other,

A political party isn’t supposed to be like that. A party has a platform and a particular beliefs. In theory a person joins and supports a political party because of those common beliefs and values and votes for one party over another because he or she wants to advance those ideas or values.

If people are however in a party because it happens to be the club they joined then belief and principles becomes “flexible” because the purpose is to serve the “club” rather than the people.

Crist doesn’t care what club he belongs to as long as it brings him power and status.

Joe Scarborough is likely right on the money when he said Rick Scott will eat him alive but you never know.

Our second story is not of a governor’s race but of a Senate Race, more specifically a Senate primary in Texas:

Texas tea party activists eager to send another firebrand in the mold of Ted Cruz to the Senate have launched a movement to draft evangelical historian David Barton to run against Sen. John Cornyn.

Barton, who hosts a daily radio broadcast, has wide name recognition and respect on the religious right as a Constitutional scholar dedicated to restoring the America the Founding Fathers envisioned, though his scholarship on that point has been widely discredited in the world of academia.

Given how far left the world of Academia is today that would be a positive plus in a Texas primary

Political analysts doubt he could take down a candidate as well-funded, well-known and widely endorsed as Cornyn. But they’re not willing to count out an insurgent from the right — not after watching Cruz come from nowhere two years ago. Barton has deep political roots, having spent nearly a decade as vice chairman of the Texas Republican Party. He is a skilled orator. And he’s got the stagecraft down pat: He travels the country to deliver rousing tributes to patriotism, often in red, white and blue Western shirts.

Now Cornyn is certainly a lot stronger than David Dewhurst and has a huge power base to draw on so normally this would be not be that bad a situation but there is one piece of his past that is about to be highlighted:

May 2009

A week after saying he wasn’t taking sides in the high-profile GOP primary in the Sunshine State, Cornyn, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, endorsed Florida Gov. Charlie Crist.

That didn’t sit well with the base and caused at least one blogger to decline an invitation to a conference call when he was informed any question on that endorsement was off limits:

Since that was the case, I declined to attend the teleconference. Going on the line with John Cornyn and not being able to talk about the Crist endorsement would be like doing a teleconference with Blago right after he appointed Burris and being unable to ask him about it.
I included these lines in my reply email to Mr. Cornyn’s staffer,

One thing he might want to think about though: If today, in May, he’s scared to take questions from his own side on this issue, how ugly is it going to get if he lets this build up for a few months?

It’s not too late for him to say it was a mistake to endorse anyone and publicly change his mind. It will save the NRSC millions in endorsements and will make that primary fight considerably less ugly.

It provoked outrage from bloggers

It smacks of a deal cut to get Crist to skip a re-election campaign to go after the Senate seat. While Crist’s popularity is an asset, Crist’s positions on issues are going to give conservatives and even moderates some angst in the party. Crist openly supported the Porkulus plan, which would have put him with Arlen Specter, Olympia Snowe, and Susan Collins as the only Republicans in Congress who did. Cornyn himself fought against Porkulus. So why is the NRSC endorsing Crist over Marco Rubio 15 months ahead of the primary?

A lot of outrage

The attempt of NRSC Chairman John Cornyn and Florida GOP Chairman Jim Greer to fix the Senate primary for their buddy, Charlie Crist, was the last straw in a long series of similar moves by the Republican establishment, which had been meddling in the primary process for years, although never so blatantly as in this Florida Senate race. When GOP insiders think they can hand-pick the Republican candidate 15 months before the primary, something has gone seriously awry in the party machinery.

It helped start the Not One Red Cent movement had democrats openly asking if they should just vote Crist

And when Cornyn was re-elected as GOP chair:

Please tell me exactly what justifies any need “to be fair” to John Cornyn? Thanks to his blundering interference in Florida, Charlie Crist walked off with more than $10 million in GOP donations. Why should Cornyn and the NRSC get a free pass while on their failures, while over at the RNC, political director Gentry Collins resigned and presented a specific indictment of the organization?

That was the last straw.

Now imagine 4 years later a GOP primary in Texas featuring John Cornyn against a strong Tea Party favorite with national name recognition at the same time that Charlie Crist is running for governor of Florida as a Democrat after switching parties and endorsing Barack Obama in 2012.

The ads write themselves.

I’ll give the last word to John Hawkins who Nailed it in 2009.

Mark my words, this is likely to get much nastier over time.

If I was Cornyn I’d be afraid:

Update:  And the bad news just keeps coming:

How on Earth does an allegedly seasoned GOP political operator like a Josh Holmes think it wise to run to the Times with what amounts to a jack-booted attempt to stifle both free market capitalism and political dissent? Those are supposed to be core values for the GOP. Yet, here we see a DC GOP establishment on display at its worst—saying, in effect, “If you engage in a form of commerce we don’t like, we will try to destroy you! If you attempt to exercise your First Amendment right to free speech to say something with which we disagree, we will try to destroy you!”

I think Dan Riehl  would rather be writing about the Obama administration trying to gimmick Twitter to silence dissent but instead we have this:

I’m ashamed to think that a party to which I am connected is even thinking in such terms within its inner circles.

THAT is the message Holmes sent to the base here. And whether the Beltway GOP likes it or not, it’s the only one an increasingly restive base is going to take away from all this. And that’s only the beginning of why this is so bad for Mitch McConnell, now likely facing an emboldened and even more empowered primary challenger back home in Kentucky.

This is as stupid as it gets.

I’ve always fallen within the camp that says that reforming the GOP from within, returning it to its anti-establishment roots, has the highest probability of success. There are plenty of other fringe parties afoot in the U.S.; adding a Tea Party to those ranks will succeed in widening the fringe, while simultaneously making the Democrat’s mopping-up operations easier.  And that position’s irrefutable, as we watch the elected Tea Party reformers like Cruz, Paul, Lee in the Senate do two things (1) inspire the base, and (2) receive fatwahs from the elite.

It’s really simple, does the GOP want conservative new media writing stories like this or would they rather have us hitting democrats?

It’s Monday and Normally I’d be a tad worried as I’m only $2 on the way to my $305 paycheck.

Starman: The empire grew quickly after that, nobody wants their world blown up from under them

DC Comic Presents #36 Whatever happened to Starman? 1981

Captain Hughes: In fairness to all of you I am honor bound to ask this question. Is there anyone here who doesn’t want to be a member of his majesty’s navy?

Captain Hugues: (Produces pistol and shoots the man. He drops dead with a groan & thud) Is there anyone else reluctant to serve

Yellowbeard 1983

Yesterday morning as it was revealed that the Administration’s rollout of Obamacare was slightly more successful than a camel spotter I as I normally do tuned into Morning Joe to see what the administration defense was going to be.

It was a doozy.

In case you don’t have the inclination to watch the entire video here is the chart notice the circle at the bottom right:
dachart

The obscured words are: “Under Penalty”

Think about the argument he is making, “Well yes people don’t want to sign up now but wait until we start forcing them they’ll come around.

I know I’ve heard that argument before somewhere

The builders of the pyramids, The captains of Galleys & Slave Ships , Islam, the British Press gangs, The East India Company, Draft boards, The Germans in Occupied France, The builders of the Berlin Wall, the government of Cuba and now the Obama Administration all agree: Once we apply the power of the government to the population , the reluctant will come along

That a cheap Chicago machine pol would use gangster tactics to make people pay is not shocking, As a Sicilian I don’t expect any better from Barack Obama.

That an administration proxy will tell me on camera that compelling the populace to act will prove a law success and/or popular. Well that just insults my intelligence.

Update:
What’s even worse is this: Someone had to prepare that slide for use on the show, so the decision to use the: “It will all be popular once we force people to use it.” was not a spur of the moment line, this is the actual position of an American administration.

Q: How do you know the fallout from Obamacare is an absolute disaster?

I still get a lot of readers asking why I watch Morning Joe almost religiously in the AM?

There are many reasons, The show is fun, Mike Barnicle is from my home town (Fitchburg MA), Joe Scarborough & Mika Brzezinski have incredible chemistry, I’ve met & interviewed Joe, Mika, Barnicle and Willie Geist and genuinely like them all and particularly like how they treat their fans. It’s one of the few MSNBC shows that will give a conservative perspective.

But the most important thing is this: As the first morning political show of the day if you want to find out what is the message of the day from the White House/left is this is the place to be.

Today however the lede from Morning Joe was this story.

President Obama repeatedly assured Americans that after the Affordable Care Act became law, people who liked their health insurance would be able to keep it. But millions of Americans are getting or are about to get cancellation letters for their health insurance under Obamacare, say experts, and the Obama administration has known that for at least three years.

That’s from Lisa Myers of NBC and led the 6 AM segment that is repeated at 8.

When a story it’s so bad that you can’t dodge it and have to lead with it in the hopes of answering it fast and being done with you know you have trouble.

Update: They led the 7 AM hour with this too and did their best to spin it but the real gem was Joe Scarborough cracking up over how much people love us when they tried to throw the NSA stuff on George Bush. When I have the video I’ll put it up.

Update 2: Linked by Stacy who says:

So all those promises — that rates would go down and that people could keep their existing plans — were deliberate lies. And all the conservatives who tried to warn that ObamaCare was doomed to failure were correct. But the liars were all Democrats, and the people who told the truth were all Republicans, so there will be no apologies and no repentance. Instead, they’ll just come up with new lies.

He has been doing some first rate culture war blogging lately.

Here is that video I promised key quote

You’ve got a drone dropping phone tapping president

Watch it to the end.

Unlike the White House Spin Machine I don’t have trouble this week. I started yesterday with $2 toward the weekly paycheck Thanks to you not only is Da Mortgage paid and Da Paycheck full for the week, but there was some extra to make up for part of some old bills that I needed to pay down. That means you won’t see DaTipJar for the rest of the week. Thank you so much for this.

Remember if enough people subscribe for as little as $2 weekly you’ll not only get my weekly commentary but the Subscriber call where you can give me a ring at home.

Of course if you subscribe at the Grand Fedora level of $100 a month that’s even better.

Either way thanks for ending this month on a strong note.

The Wild Bunch 1969

One last thing about the Shutdown fight.

I posted this Morning in my “Why we fight” piece about Mitch McConnell’s Kentucky reward for his part in securing a victory for the White House and Democrats.

What I didn’t talk about was the left’s reaction to it.

On Morning Joe today in the 2nd segment politico brought up the deal and the kickback for his state, Joe Scarborough snickered at the idea noting the political crassness of it.

One would think that a critique of the GOP leader would be happily joined by the leftists at the table but they were having none of it.

One INSISTED McConnell had not asked for or had anything to do with the change, a second said it was a small price to pay for re-opening the government and the venerable Cokie Roberts defended it as a program that had been in the works for years that benefited people in his state.

It was simply amazing, here was the Republican Leader in the Senate taking the time to get something for himself that might help him perhaps in an election year using taxpayer funds, funds which he couldn’t secure using the normal procedures and what is the left’s reaction?

They defended him to the hilt.

How can this be, well it’s pretty easy.

First of all these people all want massive spending to return, this is exactly the type of stuff they want for their own, so naturally they cheer at any chance of it taking place.

But more importantly, McConnell brought Obama and the left victory over the tea party and any action that aids an Obama victory is laudatory, from gypping taxpayers, to using the IRS as a weapon, to letting seal die and blaming filmmakers in inherently righteous if it either serves TheOne™ or confounds his enemies.

Those ends justify all means.

As I was watching Morning Joe today I kept hearing that John Boehner was lying when he said he couldn’t pass a clean CR.

We had graphics showing numbers of “potential” GOP votes In the house for a clean CR and more anonymous quotes from unnamed GOP congressmen.

pseudo count

and they mentioned vote counts

Joe Scarborough: let’s talk fact. from everybody you have talked to, everybody i talked to, it seems to me that John Boehner could pass a clean c.r. today and a clean debt ceiling increase this morning with the republicans and all the democrats.

Jemery Peters NYT: I talked to democrats and republicans who were bewildered by what john boehner said. peter king said there are 50 to 75 republican votes for this. peter king is one of the republicans who’s been counting. he told me he thinks there would be 150 vote ifs the it were a secret ballot.

However the congress doesn’t vote anonymously and nobody seems to be able to name actual house member who will vote with dems. Even Rep Peter King the most vocal & quoted public critic of the GOP in general & Ted Cruz in particular when publicly asked said he would NOT vote for a discharge petition.

However for people who can count real numbers there have been actual bills where actual congressmen have cast actual votes against the official party line in the House.

There was a vote to fund NIH, a vote to open monuments, a vote to fund veterans programs.

On each of those voter dozens of members bucked their own party to pass them, yet those votes are not getting any attention from the press and you might wonder why?

I don’t.

You see on each of those voters it was democrats who voted with Republicans on these votes to pass them in the house and such votes don’t promote the meme of GOP disunity and political failure simply are not newsworthy. The only mention of it came from Ted Cruz directly (via Newsbusters):

Sen Ted Cruz: The House has passed eight other bills funding things like our veterans, funding things like the national parks, and Harry Reid has killed them. Now, let me be clear, because it’s important to understand. These bills, none of them even mention Obamacare. They’re programs completely unrelated to Obamacare.

Candy Crowley: But obviously, they feel that if you can use this kind of leverage, they feel it’s blackmail. But let me ask you something about your fellow Republicans.

Sen Ted Cruz: But Candy, let me press back. It’s twice you’ve said Harry Reid would say it’s blackmail. And I want to press back, because I actually — I think that’s a false claim with no basis. The bill that the House passed on the VA simply funds the VA. It doesn’t mention anything about Obamacare. It doesn’t mention anything about anything else. Now, for hundreds of years, the way Congress is appropriated has been one topic at a time. How is it blackmail to say we think we should fund the veterans? Do you agree? That’s a yes or no vote. Now Harry Reid refuses to let the Democrats vote on that. But how is it blackmail to say, we may not agree on everything but is there anything we can agree on? We ought to agree on emphasis mine

John Boehner has directly said he does not have the voters for a clean CR. Has Harry Reid been asked if there are the votes in the senate to pass those bill? Has anyone asked Harry Reid why these bills are not brought to the senate floor?

That’s a good question but with this media we will not get an answer.

I’m happy to give you this news that the media doesn’t find newsworthy but as MSNBC won’t pay the bill I’ll have to ask you.

My paycheck goal is $305 and as of today I’m at $2 for this week

It can be improved and you can do so by hitting DaTipJar below.

.

As might be expected the Navy Yard shootings have dominated the news pushing all other topics. As might also be expected the various groups have come up with their various theories and meme’s from AR-15’s to video games suggesting if we only do X, Y and Z all will be well.

The shooter has also complicated things, at last check he isn’t a tea party member so the media can’t rush to their preferred meme, he apparently picked up the semi-automatic ON THE BASE meaning the gun show loophole doesn’t work. His race precludes the “Angry White Man” meme and seriously how many mass murdering Buddhists do people hear of?

The only real card is the Deck seems to be video games but these are a multi-billion dollar industry and as our pal Michael Graham points out every single time something like this happens, if this was the cause there would be a whole lot more people being shot by crazed Grand Theft Auto players.

In the middle of all this debate Jeff Greenfield on Morning Joe said something I found extraordinary, not because it is odd, but because it is so intelligent that you wouldn’t expect it to be said in the MSM, particularly not on MSNBC.

He said perhaps we simply can’t find a “fix” for these type of things and should stop pretending there is one.

Let me elaborate on this point. While most people live and function in the middle the most dramatic things that go on are on the extremes.

Consider our 300 million people on a bell curve with the most extremely sane, or saintly people on the right side of the curve and the most murderous or crazy people on the left. These extremes might account for maybe 1/10 or 100th of 1% of the population each. Say 30,000-300,000 people nationwide.

Now take that group of people already with issues and put them on a curve at the 1% side say 300-3000 live those who might actually be driven over the edge by a video game a TV show, a perceived slight.

The problem is such people are dangerous but they are always dangerous. If Grand Theft Auto doesn’t drive them over the edge it will be the news program they get angry over, or the baseball player who allows the passed ball or the librarian who fines him $2 for the overdue book or whatever.

Now maybe a courser culture might increase the number of people near this edge. Perhaps instead of 300-3000 nationwide it might increase to 1000 to 10,000 such people. That’s a 300% increase but it’s still a drop in the bucket compared to the 300,000,000 plus million people in the nation and it’s sheer idiocy to base the laws of a nation or acceptable behavior among polite society based on the whims and whimsy of 3/100 of 1% of the population who are loonies.

A much wiser policy is to identify the signs of small subset and keep an eye on them, note the characteristics they share and be vigilant, dare I say the evil word…profile.

Now I understand there are not a lot of headlines or political hay in such a policy, it doesn’t allow one to beat their breast and stand before a press conference celebrating that they “did something” but it’s a lot more sensible than running to change laws every time a lunatic decides to pop off, however it would be the sane and rational move to make.

And that’s why it won’t be done.

I know I said blogging would be light but this popped into my head and had to come out. While the trip continues the bills continue too so if you’d like to make things easier please consider hitting DaTipJar below.

Perhaps it will get me out of the doghouse for writing this post.

.

I’m Still looking to crowdsource my radio advertising. If you want more info click this link and see how you can promote my radio show while making up to to $400 for yourself.

I remember back during the Starr investigation of Bill Clinton seeing a publicity stunt by the left. A bunch of them dressed up as Puritans and when Starr pulled out of his driveway they chased his car waving bibles. The clip was shown all over the news and the media mocked Starr over it.

That came to mind when I saw Morning Joe today when they led with this performance from the VMA awards last night.

Mika Brzezinski reacted with shock saying young Ms. Cyrus needs help.

I disagree, I think she has learned her lessons well.

Ms. Cyrus is 20, and all her life she has been surrounded by a culture that pushes the idea that Judeo Christian values  are wrong, oppressive and prudish so much so when we objected to actions by a president of the United states the media went after the right we were gone after as a bunch of repressive prudes and the Bob Filners of the world stood behind him and were celebrated for it.

The moment social conservatives suggest there are limits, any limit to the “if it feels good do it, with who you want, whenever you want it and however you want it.” the long knives come out.  We are just sexually repressed bible thumpers who  want to force this repression on the world never realizing all those kids conservative Christians seem to have,  came from somewhere.

Take a look at that entire performance and realize this.

To pull off this off for a national TV show there is plenty of rehearsal, dancers have to make the right moves so they don’t collide or mask shots, the singer has to hit the right spot and the right time, so that when the big entrance takes place the network is able to get the right image they are looking for exactly when they want it. What you saw took hours of practice and effort to produce, and the goal was to get exactly the reactions they got.

Because of the amount of time and coordination I’m sure Cyrus & Thicke considered his work and when it was over there first thought was “Right, we nailed it!” and when they saw the media reactions were doubly pleased because it generated exactly the reaction they wanted. She was selling herself as a sex object, to men she was saying you should want me as a sex object this way and to young women she was being a role model proclaiming saying how cool it was to be a sex object. Consider this article at Us magazine:

Hot duo alert! Miley Cyrus is set to collaborate with Robin Thicke to his smash hit “Blurred Lines” at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday, sources confirm exclusively to Us Weekly.

“They’re friends and she loves the song,” a source tells Us. A second insider adds, “It’s amazing. She comes out of a giant bear wearing a very provocative outfit.” The prop is perhaps paying tribute to her raunchy “We Can’t Stop” music video in which she danced suggestively with massive stuffed bears.

“Today’s already the f-cking best day ever! Just wait till VMAs tonight,” the 20-year-old star wrote via Twitter hours before the big show. For his part, 36-year-old Thicke later tweeted, “Who’s ready for my performance at the @MTV #VMA’s tonight? #VoteThicke.”

This was by design, it’s what they wanted!

This has been the image that our friends on the left have been pushing for more than a generation and those lesson have been learned by one generation and is being taught to another, to wit:

At the heart of the “Free Kate” argument is the claim that Kaitlyn’s 14-year-old victim was competent to consent to sex with an adult, and if one buys that argument — in effect invalidating the legal age of consent — then who is to say that Kaitlyn’s sister’s public boasts about her going out to drink are off-limits? In fact, one Hunt family acquaintance claims that nothing has been off limits for these girls:

[Kelley Hunt Smith] has always allowed her daughters to do as they please. I know for a fact that the 2nd oldest dated a 20 year old when she was only 14! The mother would allow these things. The girls [were allowed] to have boys over for parties, that would turn into a sleepover, where there would be drug and alcohol use. This was a few years ago, but the kids at that time ranged from 13-15.

Hmmm. Permitting her minor daughters to have sleepovers with boys “where there would be drug and alcohol use“?

Where do you think Kelly Hunt Smith got the idea that it was fine to let her daughter do she pleased with who she pleased at whatever age she pleased? Where did the culture teach her the boundaries were and when her children tried to stretch those boundaries, as kids do how far did she let they stretch?

Well in this case she let them stretch to the Indian River County Jail.

Open porn is at least honest, it doesn’t pretend it is selling anything other than what it is.

The Amanda Marcottes might critique me as a misogynist for daring to object to this performance, the Mika Brzezinskis of the world are appalled at this performance, folks on the left who are tweeting her saying to leave Miley alone might say it’s no big deal and my leftist friend Mike on twitter might say:

but let’s be plain. The left who are complaining about the objectification of women and have attacked and fought social conservatives have worked for very hard for this result and what will follow. And the same network that is bemoaning Ms. Cyrus this morning told the world and the culture was All In when it came to defending Kelly Hunt Smith & her daughters actions.  They have imbued those lessons to any generation with a TV set or a smart phone.

Kelly Hunt Smith & her daughter Kate learned those lessons well.

can I get a Bazinga?

Update 2: What is the difference between Miley Cyrus’ performance last night and the Hustler movie Hustler’s Untrue Hollywood Stories: Miley Cyrus’ 18th Birthday?

One is a cynical attempt to make money off exploiting Miley Cyrus as a sex object and the subject of young men’s sexual fantasies.

The other is a porn movie.

Update 3: Rod Dreher at the American Conservative

I was going to snark about what a train wreck that girl has become, but I thought instead about linking to the sad interview her semi-estranged father, Billy Ray Cyrus, gave to GQ a couple of years ago, not long after he and his wife, Miley’s mother, broke up, and he moved back home to Tennessee. (They’re apparently back together now; he remains a mess.) Excerpts:

After the first two seasons [of Hannah Montana] he felt things changing. “The business was driving a wedge between us,” he says. He tells me that he has never been able to discipline his kids and that he now wonders whether that was a mistake. “How many interviews did I give and say, ‘You know what’s important between me and Miley is I try to be a friend to my kids’? I said it a lot. And sometimes I would even read other parents might say, ‘You don’t need to be a friend, you need to be a parent.’ Well, I’m the first guy to say to them right now: You were right. I should have been a better parent. I should have said, ‘Enough is enough—it’s getting dangerous and somebody’s going to get hurt.’ I should have, but I didn’t. Honestly, I didn’t know the ball was out of bounds until it was way up in the stands somewhere.”

I am so happy I don’t have daughters and I worry about those who do today.

Update 4: Two related post at The Fog of Law and Chicks on the Right that I’ll discuss more later.

Olimometer 2.52

It’s Monday and the last week in August and a new paycheck is desired.

As always I’m asking $305 a week, as always I’m not likely to generate the revenue Ms. Cyrus does so as always it’s up to you.

If you think I’m worth it please hit DaTipJar below.

.

and of course if you don’t want to hit my tip jar click here to find out how I can hit YOURS for up to $400?

I like Joe Scarborough and he’s always treated me well, however that doesn’t prevent me from calling him out when he says a whopper and today said something so amazing that I can’t believe actually said it on the air.

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Now this is the first chance I’ve had to see Morning Joe since Tuesday since I was in Boston Wednesday & Thursday at the RNC meetings. I interviewed people from 30 states and in order to expand Joe’s social circle let me introduce him to some of the people I interviewed:

Meet T. W. Shannon speaker of the house in Oklahoma

Meet Marilinda Garcia (R-NH) from the State legislature.

Meet John Burnett (R-NY) the GOP alternative to Client #9 for Comptroller in NY

Meet Anitere Flores (R-FL) who serves in the Florida State legislature

Meet the Changs (R-HI) Husband and wife

Mrs. Chang is a state rep in NI & Mr Chang is the State Party Chair in HI

Meet Glenn McCall (R-SC) State committeeman

Meet Ann Clanton (R-RI) Executive Director of the RI GOP

and finally meet Dr Ada Fisher Author and State Committeewoman from NC

Her book is Common Sense Conservative Prescriptions: Solutions For What Ails Us (Volume 1)

And as I’m typing this I’m sitting in a room ready to hold 170 NH Republicans

Waiting to see this gentleman who just arrived as I began pasting that last video…

col west nh 001

In fact they are paying MONEY to do so.

col west nh 002

Now the with the exception of Col west I tweeted out every single one of those interviews this morning after Joe said what he said and do you know what the reaction of the viewers were.

Yup every single interview is “cherry picked” as if I ignored any non-white person at the RNC Boston event. One look at my YouTube Channel gives the lie to that business.

I have a much better question for Joe Scarborough et/all and all those folks on the left who breathlessly linked to Mediaite’s piece on his words.

With the exception of Col West who I’ve covered before the first time I met or was aware of these people was at this RNC event. Why hasn’t MSNBC in general or Morning Joe in particular found these people worthy of a spot on the show? Why haven’t I seen them on CNN, or PBS, or This Week or Meet the Press or Face the Nation etc etc etc

I think that’s a very good question and I would love to hear a very good answer from the MSM, but I think I already know it.

Update: Next time Joe is in NH I should introduce him to Karen Testerman gathering signatures for a US Senate run

I’m just under half way to my $305 paycheck this week with $146 dollars in the till as I sit typing as the Crowne Plaza prepares the ballroom for the Allen West event in NH.

At least I THINK that’s where I am, as the GOP doesn’t welcome black people I might actually be at home in my bed suffering from a Chinese food induced delusion if you think I am than obviously I don’t need your tip jar hits to cover the Nashua trip.

But If I’m actually here in NH I’d really appreciate it if 8 of you can kick in $20 each to get me over the top.

(of course if you want to kick in the full amount I won’t complain either.

.

ThisYesterday morning on Morning Joe Mika touted they would be at a protest Aug 29th in Detroit pushed by Rep Keith Ellison: (Emphasis Mine)

“They’re very effective,” says U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, a Minnesota Democrat and co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. “They’ve brought attention to appalling conditions with workers putting in very long hours … and not making enough money to survive. This I think is scandal. .. We believe it’s essential to be paid livable wages. We know the companies can afford it. These are highly profitable businesses. It would be good not just for the family budget but for the national budget.”

Mika seemed to agree that the businesses could afford it although Joe Scarborough was not so impressed.

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Lucky for all there is a really simple way for Morning Mika and her entire crowd to prove their point over Joe.  It’s a simple three-step process

1. Acquire a fast food franchise, here is info on McDonalds, Burger King and Wendy’s a tad more expensive than McD or BK:

2. Hire Workers at $15 dollars an hour, in this economy this should be a piece of cake.

3. Watch the money pour in.

I’m sure a bunch of high-powered and well-connected people like Mika can come up with the franchise fees and an experienced marketing man like Donny Deutsch can make it profitable no matter how many other McDonalds, Burger Kings or Wendy’s paying $9 or less near by.

If this can be done and at a profit then these folks shouldn’t just be doing it to prove a point, they should be JUMPING at the chance to get themselves the easy money from a profitable franchise and help people workers at the same time.

Of course it might be much harder for Mika , Donnie, Mike Barnicle et/al after all the easiest business to run is somebody else’s.

Update: This post was originally scheduled for last night but a last-minute change moved it to this morning & I forgot to change the “This morning” to “yesterday” at the top, fixed.

I’d been too busy to notice this before today but this web site has cracked the top 100 on Doug Ross’ list of the top 150 Conservative web sites at 92 just ahead of Conservatives for Palin & just behind Neal Boortz

To paraphrase the old saying. That ranking of 92nd out of the top 150 web sites and 15 tip jar hitters kicking in $20.34 each week will pay my weekly paycheck and the monthly mortgage.

I’m very grateful to all of you who have made that ranking possible and I’m even more grateful to all of you who have kicked in to keep the mortgage paid from February through July.

If you’d like to keep the ball rolling in August, consider hit DaTipJar below.
