Autumn pipes
Next stop Atlantic Ocean?

By John Ruberry

President Obama may soon find out what how it feels to be un-upped by Canada in a hockey-style shootout.

Since his inauguration nearly six years ago, Obama has been dragging his feet in regards to approving the Keystone XL pipeline. The proposed pipeline will bring much-needed petroleum from our friends in Alberta in Canada to the United States, which will lessen our need to import oil from hostile regimes such as Venezuela and Saudi Arabia. I can’t imagine America buying oil from the Islamic State, but more oil on the market means cheaper prices, which will of course harm ISIS and bolster our national security.

The northern segment of Keystone will pass through the Dakotas and Nebraska. There is a smattering of local opposition in the Cornhusker State and some legal obstacles, but let’s be clear: Obama, the man who bragged earlier this year that he doesn’t need Congress to make things happen because, “I’ve got a pen and I’ve got a phone,” would have found a way to break ground for Keystone XL by now if that’s what he wanted.

But Obama is of course more concerned about the needs of his wealthy environmentalist donors, who either believe that the era of fossil fuels is over or that the use of this Canadian oil will contribute to global warming. Obama, who once promised to heal the planet, is on the verge of being outmaneuvered.

TransCanada Corp., the mover behind Keystone, is strongly considering an-all Canada pipeline for the Alberta petroleum, Energy East, the terminus of which will be at St. John, New Brunswick on the Atlantic Ocean. The oil can be shipped from there to America or to western Europe, which will be welcomed with open spigots by countries fed up with buying petroleum from Vladimir Putin’s Russia.Canada

Bloomberg News is reporting that the supporters of Energy East are very confident that it will be built. A proposed western Canadian pipeline could still be constructed, although that route faces opposition from some Canadian First Nations people.

But if Keystone is built, it will mean up to 40,000, good paying–and are you reading this Obama?–union jobs. If the new pipeline from Alberta never crosses American soil, those jobs will taken by Canadians. Meanwhile, we have to go back to the sad Jimmy Carter years to find a time where the American labor participation rate has been lower than it is now.

I can imagine Obama looking north soon, as Jay Gatsby did from West Egg at the green light at the end of Tom and Daisy Buchanan’s pier, at those thousands of new jobs north of the border.

The last words are for the environmentalists: Despite your numerous protests and your arm-twisting of Obama, that oil is going to be pumped from the sands of Alberta whether you like it or not. Your Canadian War is over.

You lost.

There were three seemingly unrelated stories that I saw this week that perfectly captured not only how our liberal friends view religion but of liberalism itself.

Then they spat in his face and struck him, while some slapped him, saying, “Prophesy for us, Messiah: who is it that struck you?”

Matthew 26:67-68

The first came out of Lincoln Nebraska, as you might have heard a group of Satanists is suing have a statue of Satan put next to a 10 commandments monument on public ground, however that statue isn’t the part of the story that I found interesting.

Following the ACLU’s lead, several other groups requested to erect monuments, including a Hindu group, an animal-rights organization, and the pastafarian Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

That the ACLU & Satanists want a Christian monument removed is not news. That other groups & religions are jumping on the bandwagon isn’t either, but that the State of Nebraska might even consider a request from the “pastafarian” church is simply insulting.

For those of you not familiar “pastafarians” are basally a parody church that worships the “flying spaghetti monster”. It exists to parody religion in general and Christianity in particular in order to advance a secular world view.

Now Christianity will hit it’s 2000th anniversary in a couple of decades and God has been around from day one, and with hundreds of thousands of Christians being slaughtered yearly solely for their beliefs a bunch of secularists making fun of us by pretending to worship pasta is a small thing but the key word here is PRETENDING.

As entire point of their “religion” is that their “god” is not real (which is the point they are attempting to make about God itself) you essentially have a group of people publicly espousing something they know to be, in fact false.

Given the #1 issue for election 2014 that that actually sounds vaguely familiar

Flavius: You are barbarians indeed not to know of Flavius Maximus. For seven years, I was the most successful gladiator in this province.
Capt. Kirk: Then you heard the word of the sun?
FLavius: Yes. The words of peace and freedom. It wasn’t easy for me to believe. I was trained to fight. But the words, the words are true.

Star Trek: Bread and Circuses 1968

The 2nd story came out of Morning Joe on Friday.  Congressman Keith Ellison (D-Minnesota) was talking about his new book “My Country ‘Tis of Thee: My Faith, My Family, Our Future.” I was aware of course that Ellison was the 1st Muslim member of congress but I wasn’t aware that he went to Catholic Schools and converted and that conversion story from the interview is what caught my ear.

Here is the key exchange:

Joe Scarborough: So what moved you about Islam specifically to convert from being a Catholic, that’s an obviously bold move at 19, what was it about the faith itself that moved you?

Congressman Ellison: Well part of it is what I didn’t know about Catholicism even though I went to Catholic school but other part of it was the social justice aspect, the ah inclusion, the stories about how we in Islam we affirmatively stand against racial division and embrace racial inclusion and so some of these stories I thought were really intriguing and plus you know there is a kernel of all faiths which is that faith should be a bridge not a wall it should unite you and connect you and not divide you or separate you…

There is a critical piece missing from this story, that CS Lewis addressed

we do want, and want very much, to make men treat Christianity as a means; preferably, of course, as a means to their own advancement, but, failing that—as a means to anything—even to social justice. The thing to do is to get a man at first to value social justice as a thing which the Enemy demands, and then work him on to the stage at which he values Christianity because it may produce social justice. For the Enemy will not be used as a convenience.

Ellison left Christianity in general & Catholicism in particular for Islam because of the various tenants of liberalism, social justice, inclusion, bridges not walls but notice what isn’t there C.S Lewis again.

Believe this, not because it’s true, but for some other reason.

It’s quite telling that in all the reason he gave for his conversion to Islam, “Because it’s true” wasn’t among them.

The final story is something we already wrote about, Governor Andrew Cuomo’s attack on those who dare to oppose gay marriage or abortion.  As this post is already nearing 900 words I won’t repeat the contents of that post but I will excerpt Katherine Jean Lopez   masterpiece on the subject nothing the precedent of Mr. Cuomo’s father Mario

Look how far we have come since 1984. On Sept. 13 of that year, another Governor Cuomo, Andrew’s father, Mario, famously laid out his contention that being personally opposed to abortion – the taking of innocent human life – and being a public advocate for its legality and subsequent policy accommodations was an morally sound position for a Catholic in politics. Now we’ve moved away from pretending his is a coherent and theologically acceptable position. As we enter the week of the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision 41 years ago Wednesday, Andrew Cuomo explains that the only acceptable public position in the state of New York is to support legal abortion — and, based on his agenda, its expansion.

But the true irony is this:

Andrew Cuomo is a professed Catholic proclaiming the Gospel of secularism.

The word “professed” is key here.  Like a lot of supposedly Catholic colleges who profess the faith for elderly donors & alumnus not paying Gov Cuomo finds his faith a coat, to be worn when it’s profession has political values and to be shed if it becomes too hot.

That’s the thing about belief, when you actually believe something you act accordingly but when you don’t you are Al Gore on a private Jet, all concerned about Global warning, but not so concerned to telecommute via video or fly commercial.

So Pilate said to him, “Then you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say I am a king. 16 For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.

Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”

John 18:37-38a

All three of these examples concerning faith have a single thing in common:  The rejection as Truth as the basis for religion and or action.

The Pastafarians knowingly profess a religion and the existence of a creature that they know is untrue, Congressman Ellison rejects Catholicism for Islam not because the Catholic Faith is false & Islam is true, but because of the social aspect that it confirmed for him.  Andrew Cuomo professes Catholicism while stating Orthodox catholic belief makes one extreme and unacceptable to the state, a public statement that can not be made if one’s profession of Catholicism is true.

And this is the common theme in liberalism as well, Republicans have a war on Women, but Bill Clinton, Bob Filner, Anthony Wiener and Carlos Henriquez have no reflection on the party.  A warm summer is a certain sign of global warming that we must change our entire economy over, but when a Global warming scientist’s ship gets stuck in the ice in the middle of the Antarctic summer, that means nothing.   A president says for 4 years the following:

And when it turns out to be false, it doesn’t mean a thing to the left which continues to push Obamacare as if it was the great thing ever done.

I have stated that modern liberalism & progressive is diametrically opposed to and actively targeting Christianity because it is all about truth and reality and rejecting truth and reality is the cornerstone that modern liberalism is built upon.

Christianity on the other hand is built upon a single truth:  Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  and he teaches that if you accept this truth you might have a hard time of it.

If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you. Remember the word I spoke to you, ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me.   John 15:18-21

If you choose to reject it, on the net people will celebrate and complement you, on television people will lionize you and if you have desire for higher office you will not only be celebrated by the political left but the media and popular culture will lionize and fete you till your dying day…

…after that, you’re on our own.

And remember there is a difference between rejecting something utterly and not knowing or being sure.  Just keep searching for truth  or as the Pope puts keep Honestly searching for the Lord, you’ll find him.

Good luck.

Update two stories this week about the conflict between liberalism & truth 1st out of Texas.

As Wendy Davis touts life story in race for governor, key facts blurred

And then out of San Francisco.

Actress Out Of San Francisco Production After Endorsing Tea Party Candidate

“Of course she has the right to say whatever she wants. But we’re in the middle of the Mission. Doing what she is doing is against what we believe,” Lopez said.

Alonso received an earful from listeners of Spanish-language radio station KIQI 1010 AM in San Francisco on Friday, after she said in an interview that she supported many of Donnelly’s views on illegal immigration. Several listeners took her to task after she used the term “illegal” to describe undocumented immigrants.

You see the word “illegal” is accurate & truthful, and Latina or no we can’t have that can we, we’re liberals and because of this:

Ms. Alonso is officially an inauthentic Latina.

Explain to my why these people call themselves “The reality based community?”

Olimometer 2.52

This post is all about reality and right now reality is pretty ugly around here.

We have not made a full paycheck since the beginning of 2014. We are actually at a point where even if we make a full paycheck this week and next week I still won’t have the money cover January’s mortgage payment.

That’s reality and no amount of pretending otherwise changes it.

But It is also reality that if we can make payroll early enough this week we just might be able to make a dent in the monthly goal and close that gap.

It can’t be done without you. 14 of you to be exact kicking in $25.

If you think this site is worth it, I’d appreciate it if you were one of them.

Remember if we can get those 58 1/4 subscribers @ at $20 a month the bills will be paid every week. Help make sure this blog can fight without fear all year long.

While Morning Joe was busy talking to Olympia Snowe explaining her retirement (somehow the threat of a two-way vs a three-way primary didn’t come up in conversation) There is big news out of another GOP primary:

a series of last-minute surveys shows Fischer surging despite her shoestring campaign and millions of dollars in ads that Bruning, Stenberg and their allies have aired. A survey released Monday by independent firm We Ask America showed Fischer pulling into first place, taking 39 percent to Bruning’s 34 and Stenberg’s 18.

How can that be? Bruning was supported by Jim DeMint of SC and the GOP Establishment. What could have possible happened in the last week to make such a change?

Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, have endorsed Deb Fischer, providing the state Senator’s struggling bid emphasis mine to succeed retiring Sen. Ben Nelson (D) an adrenaline shot six days before the GOP primary.

Fischer sought the former Alaska governor’s support early in her campaign in “a note,” according to the Fischer campaign press release. Often in the 2010 cycle, candidates were surprised to receive a Palin endorsement. The Palin endorsement proved to be an effective tool for obscure candidates to gain footing in competitive primaries.

May 9th Deb Fischer had a “struggling bid”, Palin endorses and six days later she is surging and ahead on election day.

Now the voting is taking place today and anything can happen, but sooner or later the GOP is going to figure out that these Tea Party wins in GOP primaries are not aberrations.

Oh and you guys on the left who are thinking how happy they will be facing off against a Palin endorsed candidate. Remember we’ve seen this movie before:

Kelly Ayotte’s seen her appeal to moderate voters crumble in the wake of her endorsement by Sarah Palin

And that PPP article from 2010 had a lot of friends:

And what happened to Ayotte? She is now on the list of possible VP choices for Mitt Romney.

I get the funny feeling before she is through the left will wish they just let Sarah Palin go back to Alaska and govern. I’ll wager there are more than a few in the GOP establishment who wish the same thing.

Update: It looks like the GOP isn’t the only side trying to clean up their act:

Remember the words of Grover Cleveland: A Democratic Thief is just as bad as a republican one.

Update 2: I totally misread the paragraph above, DeMint supports Steinberg in this race.

Update 3: As of 11:06 PM with 65% of the voter in Fischer is up by 5,000 votes and 3 pts. If the tea party vote wasn’t divided it would be a slaughter.
