I posted a couple of weeks ago about the Trump Administration’s proposed rule to keep Title X (Ten) federal family planning money from being used to benefit abortion providers. The formal period for public comment is open now through July 31.

h/t to Jeanneane Maxon, formerly of Americans United for Life, for this brief summary: “Currently, abortion providers, or organizations that refer for abortion, get significant tax payer dollars through Title X funding. The Rule would require a bright line of physical as well as financial separation between Title X programs and any program (or facility) where abortion is performed, supported, or referred for as a method of family planning. Please take 15 minutes this week and comment.”

If you don’t have 15 minutes, take 5.  My own comment is going to be brief: abortion isn’t family planning, and taxpayer funds for family planning programs should not be diverted in any way to subsidize or provide abortion.

Here’s the link to the Regulations.gov page for public comment; look for the Comment Now button on the right side of the page. That page includes a great deal of information about the proposed rule and the Title X program.

(“Regulations.gov”: now that’s a perfect name for a bureaucracy’s web presence.)

(Adapted from a post I wrote for Leaven for the Loaf.)

The Trump Administration has announced a proposed Health and Human Services rule that would prevent federal Title X (Ten) family planning money from going to abortion providers. That’s “proposed.” It’s a long road from announcement to implementation. Some pro-lifers are cheering as though it’s a done deal, and abortion providers are screaming as only people who’ve been hit in the wallet can scream.

Take a breath, folks. The proposed rule is good news. It would protect taxpayers from involvement in the abortion industry. But the rule is not in place yet, and may never be. The President has announced a proposal. Tip of the iceberg, you might say. To see what the rest of it looks like, feast your eyes on the rulemaking process as described in the Federal Register.

But, still – this is a start.

The outraged wails of abortion advocates are reminding me of the similar reaction to the Supreme Court’s 1991 Rust decision, establishing that it’s permissible for the federal government to tell family planning clinics that they can’t use taxpayer funds to perform, refer for, or counsel for abortions – since, after all, abortion is not family planning. Then, as now, abortion advocates called funding restrictions a “gag rule.” They called funding restrictions a violation of freedom of speech, instead of what they are: protection of the conscience rights of people who don’t want to help pay for any aspect of abortion.

(A couple of years after the Rust decision, President Clinton suspended the regulations that Rust had okayed – and ever since, abortion providers have lined up for Title X funds every budget cycle.)

As for indignant cries of “gag rule,” the most strident critics of the proposed Title X rule are not noted for their defense of First Amendment rights of peaceful pro-life witnesses outside abortion facilities. They only discovered the First Amendment when abortion providers’ pocketbooks were threatened.

Back in ’91, just after the Rust decision, I got a letter from my then-Congressman claiming that the decision was a “devastating blow” to free speech, on the grounds that agencies using Title X funds were being forbidden to counsel for abortions. This was from a man who had for office on a claim that he opposed sending taxpayer funding or subsidies for abortion. He recognized when he ran for office that there is a difference between family planning and abortion, and he realized that family planning funds in the hands of abortion providers simply free up other funds within the providers’ budgets for use in abortions.

Then abortion providers started accusing my Congressman of opposing free speech. Worked like a charm, since no one wants to be accused of violating the First Amendment. He changed his tune.

Today, just as in 1991, it literally pays to disguise funding as free speech. Hence the revival of the misleading term “gag rule.”

The essence of the President’s proposed rule is this, which is no different from the Reagan rule that led to the Rust decision: Title X is for family planning. Abortion is not family planning. Congress is within its rights to forbid abortion providers from using a grant for purposes unrelated to the grant’s goals. If you counsel for, refer for, or perform abortions, you may do so without using family planning funds.

The response from the abortion industry is this: I’ll promote what I please; you should pay for that promotion; refusal to pay equals censorship.

Providers who do both abortions and family planning could, if they chose, separate out the abortion business and do it as a separate enterprise, with separate facilities, equipment, funding and staffing. Title X grants for family planning would then not entangle taxpayers in abortion in any way. But that’s not the path abortion providers want to take.

It’s worth remembering that while the President’s proposed rule is a pro-life initiative, it has no bearing on the right to life. It doesn’t recognize the personhood or humanity of any preborn child. What it does is respect the conscience rights of taxpayers who don’t want to help subsidize abortions.

Even that is more than abortion advocates can tolerate.

The Democrat left is going apoplectic concerning President Trump’s comments concerning Haiti declaring his statements prove Donald Trump is a straight up racist.

The only problem with this reaction is that while President Trump’s language might have been less crude (a phrase that is evergreen) concerning it, he’s correct concerning Haiti and moreover the people screaming the loudest and most self righteously about it know it.

Don’t believe me, fine, then ask yourself these questions about Haiti:

Would you go to Haiti to vacation?

Would you go to Haiti to retire?

Does Haiti have a reliable electric grid

Does Haiti have safe drinking water?

Would you feel safe to walk the streets?

Can you could on local officials taking care of a problem for you without a bribe?

Would you feel comfortable being treated in a Haitian Hospital by doctors certified in Haiti?

Then ask yourself the same questions concerning the Dominican Republic which is located on the same island to the east and see if your answers differ.

A more practical example:  My parish helps fund Catholic schools in Haiti, in fact we are doing our fundraiser now where we raise money and donate items for the kids down there.  It’s noble work but given that Haiti has been independent for, depending on if you track it from declaration or recognition, over or just under 200 years isn’t it odd that we’re still funding schools there to help kids get a basic education?

Now none of this reflects on individual Haitians who I work with now and have known over the years.  In fact just about every Haitian I’ve ever known has been a decent hard working guy,  but when it comes down to it there is a reason why people are so anxious to get the hell out of there.

Or as I like to put it concerning my own grandparents coming from Sicily, if it was a good place to live they would have stayed there and I’d be speaking Italian today.

The real sin of President Trump is saying aloud something everybody knows is true but nobody wants to admit in polite company.

I suggest the people having a fit would be well served to watch this video out of Harvard which seems particularly timely.

Because the problems in Haiti have nothing to do with race. They have everything to do with systemic corruption, Marxism and cronyism and those who exploit those weaknesses for their own gain. Unfortunately you can’t solve those problem until they are acknowledged and if you don’t dare acknowledge those problems because of the race they will be there forever.

Update PJMedia:

Tucker Carlson defended the president.

“The idea that you are not allowed to say that they’re pretty crummy countries, Haiti for example or El Salvador, I’ve been in both of them — that’s why people are leaving them to come here,” Carlson said. “So I don’t understand what the sin is. You’re not allowed to point out that other countries aren’t as good places to live as America?”

That’s right. There are sh!thole countries. If you live in a country with an unstable electrical grid, crumbling infrastructure, or people dying from medieval-era diseases, that’s a sh!thole. I wouldn’t want to live there and that’s why people in those countries want to GET OUT and come to America.

Remember the same people outraged about Trump description of Haiti are also outraged if you state that all women have vaginas

Happy first weekend of the New Year! In my part of the country we are experiencing the big bombo deep freeze after the big bombo snowstorm we got yesterday. Lucky for me, five of my six dogs are either Siberian Husky (the momma dog) or Siberian Husky Half Breeds (my 15 month old puppies, whose daddy is a Dalmatian mixed with we don’t know what), so I can still put most of the dogs out to play a few times a day. I am into week two of my six week not allowed to do much of anything post-surgery recovery period, so my family is tasked with most of my chores and I miss walking all of my dogs more than words can say. The next four weeks cannot pass quickly enough for me, but I suppose that is true for a lot of people this time of year, regardless of whether or not they have sutures in the process of healing. I heard on teevee that a “thaw” may be coming next week, so that’s something to hope for! Let’s see what excitement the dextrosphere has for us right now:

Doug Ross brings us  A TIMELINE OF TREASON: How the DNC and FBI Leadership Tried to Fix a Presidential Election

As an aside, this appears to be the biggest political scandal in the history of the country. Never before has an outgoing administration attempted to fix a presidential election. It’s like something out of a third world country. But then, Obama always admired dictators like Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez.

If seeing that spreadsheet of nefarious activity has you upset, and it should, maybe some pictures of our First Lady looking gorgeous will cheer you up. MOTUS has the goods, HERE.

Right here at DaTech Guy Blog, Fausta has a debunking of the ridiculous book, Fire and Fury,  by that lying weirdo, Michael Wolff. However, I take exception to something she quoted from Althouse which infers that My Donald is “Fat” – President Trump is not “fat”, he is robust, hale, heart, mighty, big, and strong.

Dianny further debunks the Anti-Trump Fan Fiction.

Adrienne has some thoughts about the type of people who are raving about that stupid book.

Wolff has a reputation for making things up and pretending that they really happened, and he even put a disclaimer in his book admitting that the stuff therein is junk and then blames his lying on President Trump – of course!

The Trump Curse is real. In 2016, I wrote about Macy’s and their Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) affliction:

It was a big hubabaloo in the enemedia when Macy’s drank the SJW Kool Aidand stopped carrying Trump brand items from their stores after Donald Trump thruthfully made mention of the fact that violent criminals invading our country across our uninforced southern border are harming Ameican Citizens, but Macy’s is now learning that they drank poison:

CINCINNATI, Aug. 11 (UPI) — Macy’s Inc. will close about 100 of its 728 stores, beginning in early in 2017, the company announced Thursday.
[…]
The announcement comes as Macy’s revenue decreased 3.9 percent in the second quarter of 2016, and sales in the first half of 2016 totaled $11.637 billion, down 5.9 percent from the comparable 2015 period. Another Macy’s statement cited the closing of 41 underperforming stores in 2015.

Try to stump the Trump and wind up in the dump.

Fast Forward to the present and let’s see how they are doing: Macy’s announces 5,000 job cuts, 7 new store closures

In other TDS related news, leftists protested outside of Twitter’s headquarters demanding that President Trump be banned from the platform. Twitter has issued a statement in response.

Instapundit has a shot and chaser about the Trump economy.

Hope for the future: “Trumpism” is alive, well, and growing on college campuses! That will surely melt some snowflakes!

Happy 2018, everyone! MAGA!

Happy almost New Year, everyone! I am back. The surgeries went well and I am sore, but recovering. Some friends asked me if I got sent home with good meds, and of course, due to the War On Pain Patients, the answer is “no”, but the pain is less bad than I had expected it to be so other than the fact that I am under doctor’s orders not to do much of anything for the next few weeks, tiring easily, and having itchy (from the healing I am told) booboos on my belly and the aforementioned soreness, I am OK and am getting a little better every day. Thank you to everyone who prayed for me or held me in kind thoughts.

This is my first attempt at sitting in a chair at a desk to use the computer, and it is uncomfortable but tolerable for the moment. I’m thinking a Last Friday of 2017 MAGA linkaround sounds like a good plan right now, so here we go!

CNN has been trying to stalk President Trump through a gap in some bushes outside of a Florida golf course, like the creepy freaks that they are, and they were stymied by a white box truck that parked in front of said gap. This caused the Counterfeit News Network to lose their collectivist minds:

Can someone check on CNN? They’ve been fixated on a white truck for two days now – Legal Insurrection

Joy Villa got lots of attention for showing up on the red carpet at an awards show wearing a Trump MAGA gown, and we deplorables thought that was pretty neat, but it turns out that Joy is not what she pretended to be and is instead simply an opportunist and an attention hog. Dianny unmasked her HERE. I keep saying, “The Trump Curse is real”, and am proven correct every time karma bites one of his attackers in the butt, but Joy Villa did much worse than those who openly attack My Donald and his supporters, she is a big stinking phony who pretended to be aboard the Trump Train and then turned on everyone who had given her support, and now, Joy Villa is imploding. I predict she will circle the drain some more before her impending karmic flush washes her back to the depths of obscurity. And don’t be surprised if she has all kinds of weird bad luck as well (see Lindsey Vonn for example).

The left and their #NeverTrump enablers are all giddy over former President George W. Bush’s speechifying in which he attacks President Trump (without having the courage to use the man’s name) and the people who support Trump’s agenda of placing the well being of the United States and American citizens over the interests of our self declared enemies and other foreigners.

This ex-President Bush had nothing to say during the eight years when Obama blamed him for EVERYTHING that was wrong in the world, I guess because defending himself would have been raaaaacist? Oh, wait, Bush said Obama deserved his silence, that he did not think it was helpful for a former president to trash his successor.

Perhaps the left had a point when they screamed for years and years that George W. Bush is a liar?

I won’t print here at Peter’s blog what my initial response was to this latest attack from a Bush against MY President, but I will link to it, in case you care to see how I really feel. iOTWReport Reader Golden Fox, however, is totally worth quoting on this matter:

Mr. Bush, I cannot believe how incredibly stupid you are. I mean rock-hard stupid. Dehydrated-rock-hard stupid. Stupid, so stupid it goes way beyond the stupid we know into a whole different dimension of stupid. You are trans-stupid stupid. Meta-stupid. Stupid collapsed on itself so far that even the neutrons have collapsed. Stupid gotten so dense that no intellect can escape. Singularity stupid. Blazing hot mid-day sun on Mercury stupid. You emit more stupid in one second than our entire galaxy emits in a year. Quasar stupid. Nothing in our universe can really be this stupid. Perhaps this is some primordial fragment from the original big bang of stupid. Some pure essence of a stupid so uncontaminated by anything else as to be beyond the laws of physics that we know.

Considering that shortly after the islamic terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, in which thousands of innocent people were murdered on our own soil by islamic terrorists for islam, George W. Bush made a big deal about insisting that “islam is peace”, I think perhaps Golden Fox is onto something there!

Sundance at The Last Refuge suggests that if you want to understand what is motivating the formerly silent ex-president to suddenly become a vocal critic of a current President (and his supporters) you should follow the money.

Not a bad idea. Regardless of his motives, whether it is the butt-hurt over Jeb! invading the USA is “an act of love” & “please clap” Bush’s crushing defeat in the Republican primaries by My Donald, or his need to be loved by the people who called him Bush/Hitler for years and years and years, or preserving his standing among anti-American globalist fatcats, I don’t care. He’s is just another Obama/Clinton/Carter to me now and he is even using their talking points. Heckuva job, Georgie! Please shut up and go back to painting now.

Today, broadcast television was interrupted with breathless “Breaking News” that Steve Bannon had been fired from the Trump administration. You would think that nothing else was happening in the world today or that nobody at home wanted to actually watch the end of their shows which had been preempted for this news and the endless public pontificating and bloviating over what it all means. Talking heads had been predicting this event and/or wishing for it for a long time, having long smeared Bannon as a raaaaacist (FYI, they have done and will continue to do this to pretty much anyone and everyone who works for President Trump, or defends him, or fails to denounce him sufficiently to their leftist liking).

The left and their #NeverTrump enablers are delighted and spewing their gloat at any public platform they can find. They think they have a major victory that will further their insidious goal of bringing down President Donald J. Trump. They are as wrong as they are obnoxious, and they are plenty obnoxious!

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Not to mention smug.

You know what?

It doesn’t matter.

In the final analysis, Steve Bannon was staff, always staff; simply staff.

Political Strategist Bannon did not create any of President Trump’s policies or platform issues.  The political policy from President Trump is directly from President Trump.

Here is a little experiment you can try: Go to the local grocery store or gas station and ask someone on line with you what they think of Steve Bannon getting fired, ask again at the waiting room in your doctor’s office or at the mechanic or hairdresser or wherever you go in your every day life where Americans are going about their lives away from the hair-on-fire histrionics of cable news and new media. Odds are the answer you get will be along the lines of, “Steve who?” – even among people who voted for Donald Trump.

And that is the point, people: we did not vote for Steve Bannon, or Sean Spicer or that Scaramucci fella – or anybody else who President Trump has fired or will fire in the future for that matter –  we voted for Donald J. Trump and as long as he is still our President and as long as he is still doing everything he can to MAGA despite the opposition he gets from all sides, it is all gravy. We don’t care. Covfefe on that for a while.

UPDATE: Mt.Bannon has landed on his feet, back at Breitbart, and he remains loyal to President Trump.
