Roger Cobb: Terry? I guess it wasn’t meant to be between us. I’ll always regret that. But I want you to know that, wherever it is you’re going, I hope you’ll be very happy.
Terry Hoskins:: I will. I’ve got a wonderful house, beautiful horses and all the money in the world why shouldn’t I be happy?
Roger Cobb: What?
Terry Hoskins:: If you think I’m really going through with this you’re not just stupid, you’re crazy.
Edwina Cutwatter {in Roger’s Body} What?
Roger Cobb: I’ll handle this. What?
Terry Hoskins::From the beginning I thought if mad Edwina wants to give her money away, she may as well give it to me. I never thought that “Flying Nun” could do it.

All of Me 1984

One thing about the Trump Tax story that’s actually more interesting than the left going from:

Trump is keeping his tax returns from the Public because it will hurt him

to

Trump tricked us into releasing his tax return to the public because it will help him

Is  this question being asked by Allahpundit:’

Maddow’s fans idolize her as a smart liberal with a supposedly foolproof bullsh*t detector — yet here she was last night not only bullsh*tting them at length about the news value of the returns but quite possibly doing so as an unwitting pawn in a limited hangout by the Trump White House. She got suckered by someone, maybe the Republican president himself, which is something that should never, ever happen to MSNBC’s liberal eggheads. It’s sufficiently bad for her brand that it’s hard to imagine how she could have rationalized one night of mega-ratings as being worth the letdown and loss of faith in her judgment that she’d suffer among her regular fans. So I ask again: Why the ridiculous hype? I can’t figure it out.

which is even more cogent given this excellent point

by the time she finally got into the details of the 1040, it was Geraldo and the Al Capone vault all over again. Which brings us back to the question: Why? Why make viewers wait with bated breath for something you know can only disappoint them?

John Ziegler’s explanation is that hype is usually inversely proportional to actual news value. That is, it’s because Maddow knew she had nothing that she had to draw out the suspense. If there was anything truly juicy in the return, he reasons, don’t you think it would have been revealed by NBC’s hard news division, most likely Lester Holt’s program, instead of by Maddow during the 9 p.m. hour of liberal power?

So the questions on the floor are:

Why did Maddow push this?

Why are MSNBC and the rest of the press are still pushing it‘?

The Answer is as Stacy McCain alludes to is:  this is what the liberal rubes want.

After finally “reporting” the numbers, Maddow then filled the extra time with a lot of blabber — wild speculation about what sinister secrets might be hidden behind those opaque numbers. She suggested there could be debts owed to shady foreign entities (Russians, nudge, nudge, wink, wink) who could thereby influence Trump’s policies. While it is of course possible that such things could be true, speculation is not news, or else I could win a Pulitzer Prize for my seven-part series speculating that Rachel Maddow could be having a secret affair with Mika Brzezinski. Because, hey, why not?

The circular logic of Maddow’s “investigative journalism”:

  1. Donald Trump is a Republican;
  2. Republicans are evil;
    therefore
  3. Somewhere, there must be evidence of how evil Trump is.

Really, that’s all she’s got — a belief in Trump’s evil, which permits her (and every other liberal journalist) to constantly locate mountainous “scandals” where anyone with common sense sees only a molehill. Ever since Hillary lost the election, the media have been dogpiling every possible variation on the Russians-hacked-the-election conspiracy theory, because that’s what their core audience of disappointed Democrat voters want to believe. [emphasis mine]

Remember we’ve seen this before, when the Target was Michelle Bachmann

For many months we’re heard about Bachmann “scandals” that have been ready to break .

With a left dying to beat her and a media scoffing at and hating her it would be only a matter of time before the chickens would come home to roost.

Bull.

You have an IRS that was leaking tax information to the left, you have an AG going after Fox news reporters and their families, you had a press united in their disdain for the congresswoman and you think if there was some there there we would not have seen some actual meat out there?

And of course there was Fitzmas, when the entire left was convinced that prosecutor was just a step away from indicting Karl Rove, who would lead to Dick Cheney and maybe even George W. Bush.  Do you remember the anticipation, the jokes on late night and all that?  Stacy McCain did

For the love of God, have we forgotten “Fitzmas,” the 2005 rumor that special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald’s federal grand jury was about to indict Rove or Cheney or both? Who could ever forget the ridiculous farce of “investigative journalist” Scott Leopold “reporting” in May 2006 that Rove had been indicted?

And most importantly how it ended for them

05.10.25.BlueFitzmas-X

Stacy again

All of that ridiculous “PlameGate” nonsense was taken very seriously by the mainstream media, as though it were a real scandal that might implicate the president in High Crimes and Misdemeanors, and yet it was transparently absurd from start to finish.

That sounds really familiar doesn’t it, Trump Russia, Trump and Taxes, Trump and Bannon, etc etc etc the MSM keeps pushing this stuff, not because they believe it but because they know their customer base on the left does and will keep believing, and even if They’re burned

They just keep grabbing the next one.

You see liberalism is a religion and Their primary belief is that Conservatives/Republicans are the focus of evil in the world and we’re only one leak or investigation away from them being exposed forever.

That’s why this 2nd tweet from Ali is evergreen

Just substitute Bush, or Cheney, or Rove, or Palin, or Bachmann, and that tweet would be true in the past. We can put Conway or Bannon instead or (or along with) Trump and that sentence still works. And someday and someday in the future those names will be replaced by Republicans we’ve never heard of.

But the Democrats will still be the same and the MSM and the professional left will be there to play them, just as Ironically Buzzfeed reports that even Brett Kimberlin is back to play the rubes. Yeah Kimberlin is a bomber, a con man, a violent mendacious serial litigator but he’s not so stupid as not to recognize an easy mark when he sees them.

This is religion for the left and they’ll keep believing no matter what reality says to the contrary and if it doesn’t pan out they’ll wipe away their memory of their last failure just like Wikipedia wiped away Fitzmas removing its entry & redirecting it down the memory hole and grasp the next “scandal”.

I’ll give the last word to Peter Cook and Rowan Atkinson who demonstrate here

that Monty Python isn’t the only British comedy that the left has mistakenly decided was actually a guide to life.

If you are not in the position to kick in dollars we will always happily accept your prayers.

Everybody’s posting on Rachel Maddow’s debacle from last evening, where viewers sat through 20 minutes of preamble leading to this,

After the first break—at which point the tax returns were already available on the internet and glossed by the Daily Beast—Maddow was joined by Johnston, and she began by asking him how he knew Trump hadn’t sent the returns himself. Johnston said that he could have. A few hours after Maddow finished airing, this has become a popular conspiracy theory, simply because, if Donald Trump were to share any of his tax returns, the 2005 1040 seems like a good candidate. Trump paid taxes at a rate of around 4 percent, but because of the alternate minimum tax, he also paid an additional $31 million. The form revealed that, rather than not paying taxes and making no money, Trump paid $38 million on $150 million in income. Maddow promised to pull a sordid revelation out of a hat and instead plucked out … Trump’s credibility? Maddow was soon parsing, asking Johnston to explain that Trump is currently trying to do away with the AMT, which, unfair as it may be, still wouldn’t change the amount he paid in 2005.

As the show went on, it became clear that Maddow knew she didn’t quite have the scoop that had been promised.

The White House had already released a statement by the time she got around showing the 1040, not the full returns (which I expect would be hundreds of pages long).

Maddow doesn’t read the Wall Street Journal, or she would remember that almost exactly a year ago the Journal was reporting on the 2005 returns,

Unlike other candidates, Mr. Trump has refused to release even part of his federal income-tax returns, citing continuing audits. But county land records revealed that he has donated conservation easements on at least four of his properties: The Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Fla., the Seven Springs estate in Westchester County, N.Y., the New Jersey golf club and a golf driving range on the California coast. Three of the donations, including the Bedminster one, were made in December, when taxpayers are typically making deductions that can offset that year’s income.

Hillary Clinton last year claimed that Trump did not pay taxes.

Instead, the 1040 showed now-Pres. Trump paying $38 million in federal taxes alone, not including state income, real estate, and other local taxes. Maddox may have shot herself in the foot.

The troublesome question, which Pete brought up, is,

If the left considers it legit to leak Trump’s taxes illegally does that mean it’s open season on anyone they consider the enemy?

Look, if Pres. Trump himself put the 1040s in an envelope with two forever stamps, thereby pwning Maddow, Johnston, and everybody at NBC, it’s one thing. Conspiracy theories on MSNBC are nothing new.

But the fact remains that the unauthorized disclosure of tax return information is a crime – a felony under 26 U.S. Code § 7213. If you are not alarmed that the left justify committing felonies to bring down a political enemy, you are just not paying attention.

The questions that have been asked so far in this debate, illustrate why the American people don’t trust the media. This is not a cage match. And if you look at the questions, Donald Trump, are you a comic book villain? Ben Carson, can you do the math? John Kasich, can you insult two people over here? Marco Rubio, why don’t you resign? Jeb Bush, why have your numbers fallen? How about talking about the substantive issues —

Ted Cruz CNBC Debate Oct 29th 2015

Last week Ted Cruz has his single biggest moment in the GOP race to this point when during the CNBC debate he called out the bias of the MSM against the GOP contrasting it with how Democrats have been treated by said media and suggested that perhaps the people asking the questions of the person seeking the GOP nomination should have voted in such a primary at least once.

During the week that followed we heard all kinds of snark suggesting that if the GOP couldn’t handle CNBC they couldn’t handle the white house, they were called whiners, complainers and attacked by press from CNN MSNBC and even Megyn Kelly of Fox news.

However on Friday we had a 24 hour period where the Media did their best to make his point for him.

Item 1.  The only way a Black Man escapes the Democrat Plantation is Death

Months ago just after he announced I covered a Ben Carson Q & A in NH and ask him about the media 180 on him since he critiqued the president at the Prayer Breakfast.

at the time Carson’s prospects were considered slim and none and slim was not in town. Well a few weeks after he finished 2nd in the 603 alliance caucus of confirmed NH voters and just a few days after a Quinnipiac poll showed that he was drawing nearly 20% of te black vote, enough to make a Democrat victory impossible in a general election. The media decided to go after him in a Big way.

Politico put out hit piece on Carson claiming he was lying about some childhood & teenage stories. Before you knew it every single media outlet was piling on as illustrated by this image via the Rush Limbaugh site:

Journalistic-Malpractice

and this statement

See? From the moment I told you about this, this is exactly what I told you The Politico’s purpose was. They want you to think that Carson never went to West Point but that he says he did. “Politico published a piece Friday claiming Carson’s campaign ‘admits fabricating’ the fact that he applied and was admitted to West Point.” So they go to the West Point spokesbabe today and she says, “No, we had no application. He didn’t apply, and he certainly didn’t attend here.”

So they clearly want ignorant, impressionable, uninformed readers to think that Ben Carson’s out there writing in his book that he went to West Point and that The Politico today has uncovered the fact that he didn’t. And do you want to know how successful this is? I’m not gonna mention any names here. In the opening segment of this program, I’m going through exactly what I just told you here, and somebody on the other side of the glass shouted to me, “It doesn’t matter, he’s toast! The truth doesn’t matter. He’s toast.”

And this might be true if Carson was a regular pol but if you think a fellow who has spent hours fighting for the lives of kids considered doomed was going to just give up they were quite mistaken. Carson called the story “an outright lie” American Elephant put it well

and lo and behold within a few hours Politico had already edited their story (without mentioning the edits) and CNN was putting out a story titled “Where Politico’s Ben Carson ‘Scoop’ Went Wrong

The rewritten article did not initially include a correction or editor’s note, although a note was later added on Friday. Politico again said it “stands by its reporting.”

Of course by the time these corrections were promulgated the low info voters who don’t follow the news or see the corrections will have the background noise of “Ben Carson Lied” added into things “everybody knows.”

Take a look at the press conference below

And remember the primary subject of these questions are concerning a dinner he attended at age 18.

Now some might say, hey this guy is running for president of the United States, this isn’t softball, he’s got to demonstrate that he can stand up and take it.

However that very evening we saw a very different press event for Democrats…

2. MSNBC invites the Hillary Clinton & Co over to play  softball

At 8 PM Friday evening MSNBC broadcast the First in the south Democrat forum featuring Martin O’Malley, BErnie Sanders and Hillary Clinton.

The Contrast was quite striking.

Unlike the combative CNBC, Fox & CNN Debates the Democrat Candidates appeared one at a time without worrying about being challenged by their opponents

Unlike the CNBC debate and the Scrum around Ben Carson earlier in the day. Rather than facing confrontational questions from political opponents like Ben Carson and the GOP CNBC debaters did the Democrat Candidates faced questions from Rachel Maddow the most liberal of hosts on MSNBC all based on affirming their worldview rather than challenging it.

And while Mr. Carson’s words at a dinner at age 18 were considered relevant neither this story which broke this morning:

A day after assuming office as secretary of state, Clinton signed a Sensitive Compartmented Information Nondisclosure Agreement that laid out criminal penalties for “any unauthorized disclosure” of classified information.

Experts have guessed that Clinton signed such an agreement, but a copy of her specific contract, obtained by the Competitive Enterprise Institute through an open records request and shared with the Washington Free Beacon, reveals for the first time the exact language of the NDA.

Nor he contradictory explanations concerning the cause of the Benghazi attack.

An email released by the House Select Committee on Benghazi Saturday suggests Hillary Clinton’s State Department was advised to tell two different stories about what sparked the 2012 Benghazi terror attack: one to the U.S., and another in Libya.

Both which took place while secretary of state in this administration were not newsworthy enough to elicit a question on the topic from Miss Maddow. Here is one of the questions

Now you might say that it’s the job of the press to examine the words of a top tier GOP candidate like Ben Carson and you might also say that at the Democrat Forum Rachel Maddow asked some questions of real substance, particularly the one on the tech industry & in both cases you would be right…

…HOWEVER if I was a candidate like Ted Cruz, who was roundly attacked for contrasting the way Democrats and Republicans are treated by the press and ridiculed by Megyn Kelly for suggesting that perhaps the GOP should have it’s debates moderated by people who actually vote in GOP elections the next time someone questioned either of these statements and asked why he’s spending his time talking about media coverage I’d hand them a DVD of the Media coverage of November 6th 2015 and answer:

THIS is why.

I know you can get the MSM for nothing, but that’s pretty much what most of them are worth.

I wish I had, I would have enjoyed getting a 1 min interview with her if she consented, but I have to give her high marks for #1. Showing up in person to see for herself and #2. Having fun and joking around with the Newsbusters guys.

As long as people who disagree can do that then the country is in better shape than we think. It is so damn American.

…then you are really doing well.

Congratulations Charles you’ve managed to get your slanderous attack on Robert Stacy McCain actually repeated in a Newspaper in Charleston West Va.

Now Don Surber writes for a paper in the same city (Charleston daily mail) so far be it from me to deride the state but I suspect that this was based on the clip from Rachel Maddow via LGF now that’s sourcing for you!

So to try to score a cheap shot against Sarah Palin they have committed an actionable offense. Once they repeated that claim in print and online it became so. And since the paper is on the net so if it’s picked up by a paper or a blogger in the UK. Robert Stacy and co might even choose to sue under British Libel laws.

Robert Stacy has already taken the first step demanding a retraction:

Over the years, this malicious campaign against my reputation has metastasized spectacularly on the Internet, as individuals and organizations with various political or personal motives have elaborated and repeated them. Some of the original sources for these accusations (e.g., a column by Michelangelo Signorile) contained factual errors, which have been incorporated into the urban-legend mythology, producing a Gordian Knot of non-fact that is not worth the effort it would take to unravel it. Like ancient Alexander, however, I am prepared to swing the sword. Retract, please.

These charges have, as I say, taken on an Internet life of their own. However, never before have they been published in a print newspaper. Whatever malice against the former governor of Alaska inspired your publisher, editors and writers to undertake this false and dishonorable guilt-by-association smear, it was a most foolish blunder. Retract, please.

Congratulations Charles you now have a chance to make Robert Stacy a fair amount of change and to have your charges refuted in a court of law and it will likely not cost you a cent. Then again if he is already going to court one more person in the doc won’t make a difference will it? You will make a real great witness at the trial. I suggest deleting those Archives asap.

…regarding libel law:

While I am not litigious by nature — my views being rather Jacksonian in that regard — perhaps Governor Palin, Mrs. Vincent and their publishers have different views. It is my understanding that British libel law is far more inclined toward the plaintiffs than is true here in the United States, especially for “public figures” as covered under the U.S. Sullivan precedent.

Should Mrs. Vincent retain the services of a British attorney, I suspect that your publisher would be advised to settle the suit at any sum asked, as it would be quite impossible to prove that Mrs. Vincent is “closely associated with a well-known white supremacist,” which I most assuredly am not, no matter what any particular idiot has published to that effect or how often it has been repeated.

Think of the cost to your publisher, Felix Dennis, of flying Charles Johnson, Michelangelo Signorile, Rachel Maddow, et al., to London for a libel trial, sir. Ask yourself how such witnesses might stand up under cross-examination,

How do I know this is good advice? As Chris Hitchens reminds us Polanski won such a case in England :

In July 2005, Polanski took advantage of the notorious British libel laws to sue my colleagues at Vanity Fair and collect damages for his hurt feelings. It doesn’t matter much what the supposed complaint was—he had allegedly propositioned a Scandinavian model while purring about making her the next Sharon Tate—so much as it mattered that Polanski would dare to sue on a question of his own moral standing and reputation. “I don’t think,” he was quoted as saying of the allegation, “you could find a man who could behave in such a way.” Say what? Anxious for his thin skin, the British courts did not even put Polanski to the trouble of appearing in a country where he has never lived. They allowed him to pout his outraged susceptibilities by video link before heaping him with fresh money.

That being the case a certain Little Green Flake should be happy Mr. McCain is Jacksonian by nature. I’d say the same about Maddow but she doesn’t have to worry as Robert Stacy somehow thinks she is a handsomer woman than Mika. I beg to differ.

Frankly I think he should be more worried about Todd Palin. He has a lot more free time to avenge his wife’s honor.
