Chicago’s Grant Park, where Obama gave his victory speech

By John Ruberry

On the Sunday after the 9/11 attacks, Jeremiah Wright, then Obama’s pastor, bellowed, “God d–n America” and “America’s chickens are coming home to roost” from the pulpit of his Chicago church.

Two nights from now President Barack Obama will give his farewell address in Chicago, his adopted hometown. The Hawaii-born 44th president moved to Chicago a year after graduating from college where he worked, with at best mixed success, as a community organizer on the Far South Side. It’s an area still beset by violence and poverty with no hope of a turnaround thirty years after Obama left that post so he could attend Harvard law school.

Ayers and Dohrn Chicago home

It was in 1996 Chicago where Obama launched his political career. One of his first campaign stops–perhaps his first–was at the home of his friends, unrepentant Weather Underground terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. Eight years later another Chicagoan, state Senate President Emil Jones Jr, put Obama’s name on some key bills that bolstered his liberal credentials. Obama scored a surprise win in the Democratic US Senate primary, and after the Republican nominee imploded, he easily won in the general election.

You know the rest of the story.

However, Obama was not a slam-dunk in the 2008 presidential election against John McCain–what we now call the Great Recession sealed the deal–and America elected its first black president.

Chicago is still recovering from the ’08 economic collapse. Of the nation’s 35-largest cities, Chicago has the largest percentage of underwater home mortgages. Two years ago Chicago enacted its largest property tax hike in history, the impetus for it was to pay for underfunded municipal pension funds. What does this have to do with Obama? Chicago hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1931, Obama is the most hyper-partisan president in memory. Along the White House ride for Obama was Valerie Jarrett, his senior advisor and “Berlin Wall,” the former slumlord was a deputy chief of staff for Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. It’s Daley, not his successor, former Obama White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, who bears the responsibility for the Chicago pension debacle. But Chicago’s generous municipal pensions are political payback for public-sector unions, who’ve been an arm of the Democratic Party in all but name for decades.

Obama has always been very cozy government labor unions.

Two years ago–under Emanuel’s watch–Moody’s downgraded Chicago’s bonds, and those of Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Park District to junk. Other rating services haven’t followed suit yet, but they absolutely don’t view Chicago favorably.

Chicago’s population is at it lowest level in 100 years.

Chicagoans pay the nation’s highest sales tax rate.

Chickens.

Last year at least 762 people were murdered in Chicago–an appalling 57 percent increase over the year before. Chicago suffered more killings than New York City and Los Angeles–combined. One of the reasons cited for the soaring murder rate was Rahm Emanuel’s inept handling of the shooting of unarmed black teen Laquan McDonald–with sixteen bullets–by a white cop, all of which has compelled Chicago Police officers to use less aggressive law enforcement tactics. Chicago is a hotbed for Black Lives Matter activists. The outgoing president has been supportive of this radical group, which deems racist the statement All Lives Matter.

Near where the Facebook attack occurred

That leads to last week’s racist atrocity in Chicago, the torturing of a white special needs man–thirty minutes of which was streamed live on Facebook–by four blacks in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. The victim was bound, gagged, beaten, slashed, forced to drink toilet water, and coerced to say “F–k Donald Trump” and “F–k white people.”

Two months earlier in another West Side neighborhood a white man was pulled from his car and brutally beaten by four blacks. That attack was captured on video, the assailants screamed, “You voted Trump” and “Beat his a–.” While the victim was indeed a Trump voter–yes, there are a few in Illinois besides me–he told authorities that there was no way the thugs could have known that. There was no Trump bumper sticker on his car–he was white and that was enough provocation for these creeps.

Obama’s chickens–and those of Chicago Democrats–have come home to roost.

Our collectivist president has practiced identity politics for his entire adult life. which for the most part means race politics. Us versus them. And as a collectivist Obama has appointed himself as the savior to put the pieces back together.

Chicago’s Northwest Side

But breaking things is much easier than putting them back together.

Some final thoughts.

As a public service I am recommending that if you are planning to attend Chicago’s McCormick Place address, please use public transportation. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit 45 of our 50 states. With the exception of Detroit, the worst-maintained streets and roads I’ve encountered are in Chicago. And while you’re driving around potholes and crevices, please beware of Chicago’s ubiquitous red light and speeding cameras. An astounding 1.9 million traffic camera tickets were issued between 2010 and 2015. Chicago has 2.7 million or so residents. Most of those tickets were written while Emanuel was mayor.

The former administrator of Chicago’s traffic camera program is serving a ten-year prison sentence for accepting bribes.

Someone needs to come up with a misery index for big cities like Chicago, which should include such items as corruption, low high school graduation rates, unfunded pension obligations, red light cameras, crumbling infrastructure, population loss, taxes, and yes of course, crime.

John “Lee” Ruberry

Perhaps Austan Goolsbee, Obama’s amiable pal who is an economics professor at the University of Chicago, can absolve himself of leftism and get to work on this much-needed project.

Thank God I left Chicago for the suburbs nearly two decades ago.

And Obama, at least for now, won’t live in Chicago after he moves out of White House next week. He’ll probably only return to visit his presidential library.

And that the slaves were never freed

by baldilocks

There were all kind of attempts to lure the GOP state electors into voting for someone other than Donald Trump. A few took the bait, but so did some Democrat state electors; Hillary Clinton lost even more electors that Trump did. But, now that the Electoral Vote is done—yesterday—and now that Trump is again the victor, but Clinton won the popular vote, there’s a new meme emerging: that the Electoral College is racist. Yes, you read that correctly.

The New York Times leads the outcry with a description of the three-fifths clause in the Constitution and a distortion of its relationship to the Electoral College.[i]

The Electoral College, which is written into the Constitution, is more than just a vestige of the founding era; it is a living symbol of America’s original sin. When slavery was the law of the land, a direct popular vote would have disadvantaged the Southern states, with their large disenfranchised populations [Ed.: slaves and Indians—and women]. Counting those men and women as three-fifths of a white person, as the Constitution originally did, gave the slave states more electoral votes.

A more detailed description:

For the most part, those who opposed slavery only wanted to consider the free people [sic] of a population, while those in favor wanted to include slaves in the population count. This would provide for slave holders to have many more seats in the House of Representatives and more representation in the Electoral College. (…)

The implementation of the Three-Fifths Compromise would greatly increase the representation and political power of slave-owning states. The Southern states, if represented equally, would have accounted for 33 of the seats in the House of Representatives. However, because of the Three-Fifths Compromise, the Southern states accounted for 47 seats in the House of Representatives of the first United States Congress of 1790. This would allow for the South to garner enough power at the political level, giving them control in Presidential elections.

However, as time moved forward, the Three-Fifths Compromise would not provide the advantage for which the Southern states and slave-owners had hoped. The Northern states grew more rapidly in terms of population than the South. Even though Southern states had essentially dominated all political platforms prior to the Civil War, afterward that control would be relinquished slowly but surely. It would not be until the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was be enacted in 1865 that the Three-Fifths Compromise would be rendered obsolete.

Bloody Kansas Era Editorial Cartoon

The Compromise was a trade-off because no perfect solution to the slavery conundrum was available at the time. It was an advantage to the South at first, but over time, the advantages amounted to nil. (This also explains Bloody Kansas.) Strategy.

Thus was the infant USA not born the perfect USA; it was born with a birth defect—an “original sin” just like every other nation on earth. ( The Organized Left always wants to talk about “original sin” even when they don’t believe in real sins—at least not those committed by their ideological allies.)

If the North had not compromised, one wonders what would have happened. Two nations would have likely been born and lasted about as long as 1812—the year of the next war with the British. And that time estimation is a generous one.[ii] And even if those fantasy nations had lasted, one wonders when the Southern Nation would have ever abolished slavery.  Sounds like a Democrat’s…er…Confederate’s dream, no?

So it is that the EC and the Compromise ensured that a USA was born, grew and matured and that her citizenry and liberty expanded.

But, it seems to me that the NYT editorial staff dreams of a never-born United States of America and believes it’s never too late to have an abortion. What a surprise.

[i] By the way, let’s not forget that Alexander Hamilton was a leading advocate and architect of the Electoral College.

[ii] There were three wars between the end of the Revolution (1783) and the War of 1812: The First Barbary War, The 1811 German Coast Uprising, and Tecumseh’s War.

Hoping that President Obama is not injured by one of these on January 20.

North versus South

One more play of the Race Card™ by President Obama before exiting stage left.

President Barack Obama’s election in 2008 broke a racial barrier that set soaring expectations for an era of improved race relations.

Now, as he departs office, those hopes have largely evaporated. Tensions between African-American communities and police departments have deteriorated following a slate of high-profile shootings of unarmed black men. The man who will replace Obama in January was a leading peddler of the racially-tinged “birther” myth [see RELATED below]. A majority of Americans now say relations between blacks and whites have worsened since Obama took office.

Obama has said he never believed his election could completely erase centuries of racial conflict in America. But the decline in racial ties is nonetheless an ironic legacy for the first African-American president, one Fareed Zakaria explores in the CNN Special Report “The Legacy of Barack Obama” airing Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET.

In interviews, Obama and those who worked closely with him identify a strain of racial bias that hardened against the President, even as his election crumbled a historic racial wall.

“I think there’s a reason why attitudes about my presidency among whites in Northern states are very different from whites in Southern states,” Obama told Zakaria.

Here’s what I know about the difference between the North and the South, especially with respect to race relations between black and white. Since the Civil Rights Era, the South has been transformed. In the North? Not so much.

As is so for any true upheaval within a given social fabric, that transformation required pain and sacrifice. That happened in the South. One of the things that I noticed repeatedly down there is that black-white neighborhoods are very common. Another thing I’ve noticed over the years is that, in black-white interracial marriages, the white spouse is often from the South. Those two anecdotal facts are related.

Oh sure, Northern liberals were happy to assuage their white guilt by voting for the first viable black presidential candidate. But they only want to live next door to a certain kind of black if at all–if Chicago is any indication. Voting for him was a method of cheap grace for the kind of Northern Liberal both he and I are observing.

The CNN piece continues with incident after incident, attributing any political or social opposition by white persons to President Obama’s words, deeds and action to racism without describing any connection between the opposition and racism, because, of course, no description of the kind is necessary…

Because no reasonable person could oppose him or his policies for any other reason other than racial hatred/supremacy. That’s the implicit takeaway.

How do I know this? Because there is not one rhetorical question as to whether the man named Barack Obama is the problem–nothing about his personality; no evaluation of his policies on a true qualitative basis. He won’t take responsibility for the state of race-relations nor will his sycophants attribute its devolution to him. To his sycophants, all problems in this country are the fault of others, especially whites who will not support him.

And that last part is the most racist thing of all.

“What the hell have you got to lose?”

Donald Trump on why black voters should consider voting for him

On the day after a group of Hillary supporters in North carolina decided the best way to protest police was to loot a Walmart the Massachusetts Supreme Court, the court that decided that John Adams put a right to gay marriage in our constitution has brought us this gem of a ruling: (Via Kevin Daily of the Daily Caller)

We do not eliminate flight as a factor in the reasonable suspicion analysis whenever a black male is the subject of an investigatory stop. However, in such circumstances, flight is not necessarily probative of a suspect’s state of mind or consciousness of guilt. Rather, the finding that black males in Boston are disproportionately and repeatedly targeted for FIO encounters suggests a reason for flight totally unrelated to consciousness of guilt. Such an individual, when approached by the police, might just as easily be motivated by the desire to avoid the recurring indignity of being racially profiled as by the desire to hide criminal activity. Given this reality for black males in the city of Boston, a judge should, in appropriate cases, consider the report’s findings in weighing flight as a factor in the reasonable suspicion calculus.

Or to put it another way, the Massachusetts Supreme Court rules that Boston police are such racists that it is reasonable for a black person to flee is approached by police.

Now given what happened with gay marriage the implication of such a ruling if applied nationwide could be astounding but lets consider something else.

Massachusetts is a state that has voted GOP one in my lifetime in a national election (1984 Ronald Reagan). Boston is its capital and you would be hard pressed to find a more liberal city in the US nor one that votes for Democrats more lopsidedly. These are facts everyone knows, but let me point out one fun fact from Answers.com that you might not know

boston-mayor

So it is the opinion of the Massachusetts Supreme court that the end result of 86 years of Democrat rule is Boston is a police force so racist that for a black man, no matter how innocent, fleeing from police is a perfectly valid response.

This leads to a rather obvious question for Minority voters in Boston with an election coming up that echos Donald Trump:

If 86 years of Democrat rule has brought you to this point, what do you have to lose by voting Republican?

It took 86 years to break the curse of the Bambino in Boston, perhaps it’s time for Boston to break this curse too.

G Reilly: How would you like it I had the maid over there bring your ass a pinata, that stuff was full of with candy and nachos and chimichangas and tacos, and burritos and a blanket with a big ass bottle of Tequila. what would you say?

Gabriel Iglesias: Thank You!

Gabriel Iglesias Racist Gift Basket

One of the advantages of age is memory and perspective and watching yesterday’s CNN debate returned me to the days of my youth in the pre-cable / internet age when my family would gather around the TV set together to watch All in the Family.  It brought to mind a particular episode from 1973 Called “The Games Bunkers play“.

In the episode  Uber Liberal Mike (Meathead) Stivic (Rob Reiner) invites the Lorenzos (Vincent Gardenia, Betty Garrett), Lionel Jefferson ( Mike Evans ) to join him and wife (Sally Struthers) and his mother in law Edith (Jean Stapleton) in a game called Group Therapy which is supposed to reveal things about themselves. Archie (Carroll O’Connor) passes. “I’ll tell you what I’ll do little girl I’ll give you my interpretation of a guy going down to Kelsey’s for a couple of beers.”

Alas for Mike the things he finds out about himself are that for all his bleeding heart liberalism and self professed tolerance he’s locked into his own prejudices.  At one point Lionel (whose family is the black foil for Archie Bunker) draws a card saying “Choose a member of the group now standing back to back and pushing each other them why it’s hard to be direct with them.”  Mike jokes that Lionel will have to pass since Archie isn’t there and is shocked when Lionel says:  “I choose you” and instantly notes that Mike isn’t pushing and asks if he’d push harder if he was white and the exchange escalates video here :

Lionel:  Yeah man just once I’d like for you to talk to me like I’m Lionel Jefferson and not a representative of the whole black race.

Mike:  Oh C’mon Lionel I don’t do that.

Lionel:  Sure man what’s the first thing you say whenever I see you, something about the “black” problem right?

Mike:  C’mon Lionel, What do you want me to talk about the weather?

Lionel:  Sometimes yeah black people have weather too.  We get rained on and everything.

And THAT brings us to the CNN debate and Telemundo reporter María Celeste Arrarás.

For a reporter the chance to appear in a highly rated national debate is a Godsend and I’m sure Ms. Arrasas was delighted for the chance to question the candidates.  There are a vast array of issues that are critical in America.  Jobs, the war against ISIS, Obamacare, Fracking and the Climate Change debate, the Revolts going on college campus, Policing, Twitter’s attacks on conservatives, Food Prices, Housing prices, the Zika virus, the VA that  are of vast importance to the viewers of Telemundo.

However given the chance to address all of these issues Ms. Arrarás confined her questions to Immigration, Latino perceptions of the candidates and the Puerto Rico Debt crisis (which in fairness is a serious national issue that’s been largely ignored).  It’s as if CNN and Telemundo came in with preconceived impressions of what a latino journalist was supposed to be and she happily went along.

At least South Park openly calls their black character “Token”.

It’s also worth noting the debate illustrated the difference between Latino liberals and conservative, in that while Ms. Arrarás was glad to say “Thank you for the racist gift basket” a la the famous (and hilarious) Gabriel Iglesias skit, the Latino GOP candidates on stage were having none of it.  Neither Cruz

You know, I would note that a lot of folks in the media have a definition of Hispanics that you can only be hispanic if you’re liberal. That makes sense in the media, but I gotta tell you, one of the things I was most proud of when I ran for Senate here in Texas, I earned 40 percent of the hispanic vote here in Texas.  At the same time, Mitt Romney was getting clobbered with 27 percent of the hispanic vote nationwide. And, the reason is, as you know, you look at the value sin the hispanic community. The values in our community are faith, family, patriotism.

You know, we’ve got the highest rate of military enlistment among Hispanics in any demographic in this country. And, when I campaigned, and I campaigned the same here in Houston or Dallas as I did in the Rio Grande Valley, defending conservative principles, defending judeo- Christian principals, telling my father’s story.  Telling my Dad’s story of coming to America with $100 dollars in his underwear, not speaking English, washing dishes, having hopes and dreams for the American dream. And, the truth is the Obama-Clinton economy has done enormous damage to the hispanic community. It is not working in the hispanic community, and I…fighting so that everyone who is struggling in the hispanic community and beyond will have a fair and even shake at the American dream.

Nor Rubio

the second point I would make is that we have to move past this idea that somehow the hispanic community only cares about immigration.  Yes, it’s an important issue because we know and love people that have been impacted by it. But, I’m going to tell you that the most powerful sentiment in the hispanic community, as it is in every immigrant community, is the burning desire to leave your children better off than yourself and, you can only do that through free enterprise. That’s what we stand for, not socialism like Bernie Sanders, and increasingly Hillary Clinton.

If Ms. Arrarás wants to play the Token Latina from a telenovela that the Liberal MSM expects that’s up to her.  Perhaps they can get her a tight fitting low cut dress for the next debate and occasionally cut away to a ripped Latino man giving her a soulful look for effect, as she asks her questions.

But let me say from my experience this is not reflective of the latinos I know. In my last job I worked with Latinos from multiple countries and when we were all laid off together last week I can guarantee you the last thing on any of their minds was if Donald Trump or anyone else was going to build a fence at the southern border.

Update: Fausta informs me I’ve dropped an “S” from the end of our Telemundo reporter, actually spelled Arrarás, corrected.

Update 2: Powerline asks: What is Telemundo running for?

Even under the slack standards and biased practices of the left-liberal mainstream media, it should be unacceptable for journalists asking questions at a debate to stake out a substantive position and then ask the candidates whether they “get it.” The job of journalists in this context (and others) is to ask for the candidates’ position, not (in effect) to instruct them and the audience that they are clueless if they don’t agree with the position the journalist happens to take.

Either way thanks for reading and don’t be shy about letting us know what you think. One can’t improve without critique.

…then on every network you would be seeing activists decrying Parker and Ward as the lowest of the low. Stating they were emblematic of the Racism in media and demanding they be dismissed. On twitter you would be seeing people calling them bigots at best and likely a whole lot worse and both of them would have become so radioactive as to be practically unemployable and Flanagan would not only have been hailed as a heroic whistleblower, a symbol of black oppression he would have been invited to speak at events all over the nation, and any person who doubted his story or defended either Ward or Parker they would have immediately been denounced as racists both online and in media.

That would have been the end result if Vester Flanagan has shot off his mouth rather than his gun.

Keep that in mind the next time someone is so quick to cry racism and be ready to destroy someone.

Related: What happens when a meme goes wrong:

I suspect that if Flanagan had made those charges Deray would have been right behind him.

Update: Stacy McCain

If someone says they are a victim of racism, sexism or homophobia, and then they use claims of victimhood to justify violence, how seriously should we take their political arguments? It’s a hall of mirrors. If we say Vester Flanagan was just a disgruntled kook, what does that make Al Sharpton? Isn’t he just a more successful disgruntled kook?

By John Ruberry

Last week in this space I wrote about President Obama’s war on the suburbs. But there is more to Obama’s agenda. It’s a war on the majority–or if you prefer–a war on white people.

The New York Post outlined this move last week:

Unbeknown to most Americans, Obama’s racial bean counters are furiously mining data on their health, home loans, credit cards, places of work, neighborhoods, even how their kids are disciplined in school — all to document “inequalities” between minorities and whites.

This Orwellian-style stockpile of statistics includes a vast and permanent network of discrimination databases, which Obama already is using to make “disparate impact” cases against: banks that don’t make enough prime loans to minorities; schools that suspend too many blacks; cities that don’t offer enough Section 8 and other low-income housing for minorities; and employers who turn down African-Americans for jobs due to criminal backgrounds.

Big Brother Barack wants the databases operational before he leaves office, and much of the data in them will be posted online.

So civil-rights attorneys and urban activist groups will be able to exploit them to show patterns of “racial disparities” and “segregation,” even if no other evidence of discrimination exists.

When governments collect data their intentions are not always benign. William the Conqueror did not authorize the Domesday Day Book–the most extensive collection of economic data during the Middle Ages–out of curiosity. The English king was seeking taxing possibilities. Fear of new and additional taxes by the populace prevented the Russian Empire–a totalitarian state, I need to emphasize–from conducting its only census until 1897.

The Post writer superbly summarized Obama’s goal in his racial data mining. By attacking the majority culture–white Americans–the most liberal president ever hopes to continue “fundamentally transforming the United States of America” and to “spread the wealth around” even while he is walking the streets of Chicago in retirement with a Republican successor in the White House. Most federal agencies, particularly activist ones such as the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, are dominated by hard-core leftists who enjoy civil service protection. Another president can only fire the top officials.

Meanwhile amid this so-called institutional racism, Asian Americans may soon surpass whites in terms of wealth.

Congress can perhaps prevent this assault on most Americans by blocking funding on Obama’s twisted fairness scheme. But the Republican majorities in the House and Senate don’t seem interested in challenging Obama–campaign promises notwithstanding.

John Ruberry regularly blogs at Marathon Pundit.

I’m old enough to remember when the MSM was upset that people didn’t care about real issues, apparently given this interview of Ted Cruz by Mark Halperin this is no longer the case.

What any of this has to do with being president is beyond me.

Ruben Navarrette is pained:

What nerve, treating a U.S. senator like a trained seal! Who does this guy think he is, trying to evaluate how well a Hispanic speaks Spanish? And what does that have to do with being authentic anyway?

The snark is flying on twitchy and A lot of people, including me questioned Mr. Halpern’s tone deafness.  After all how long would it have taken for a reporter who asked biracial Senator Barack Obama to name his favorite Soul Train act to be declared persona non grata?

Upon thinking about it I think he might not have been as tone-deaf as I thought and this sentence from Glenn Reynolds explains why:

you’ll note that it’s overwhelmingly Democrats who traffic in racial stereotypes; they just usually get a pass.

That’s the only question that matters concerning Halperin’s interview of Senator Cruz:  “Will anyone outside of Conservative media report or react negatively to this example of racism? “: Navarrette again (emphasis mine):

I kept thinking to myself: “What if, instead of watching a Washington insider who is also an MSNBC contributor, I was watching Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly demand that one of the Castros say a few words in Spanish so O’Reilly could determine if he is legitimately Hispanic?”

The left would go apoplectic. They’d call O’Reilly a racist, and they’d be right. In this case, the Hispanic advocacy groups didn’t say anything.

The answer to my question is apparently “no” just as Halperin knew it would be.  He understood the overwhelmingly left leaving Hispanic advocacy groups would not say a word, and the rest of the media outside of Fox & bloggers wouldn’t care.

Halperin’s not tone-deaf, when it comes to the  left’s media industrial complex he’s completely tuned in.

That the real story here.

Update:  Fausta offers Mr. Halperin a free Spanish lesson.

Update 2: Cause: media outside of us conservatives have taken notice

Effect

My intent was to give the Senator a chance to speak further about his heritage and personal connections to the community through some casual questions. I rushed through the questions, and that was a mistake — it led to poor tone and timing. I also understand why some felt the questions were inappropriate.

One of the interesting things about our race divided culture is how selective we are about stories of racism.  Over the weekend (well technically early AM on monday morning) I saw three stories on race & education that outraged me:

1.  Item:  Oklahoma Frat in Racist Chant:

The Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at the University of Oklahoma has demonstrated a questionable taste in music

The chant is they are singing is: “There will never be a nigger at SAE.”.  I suspect it will not be released as a rap single any time soon. I first saw this on twitchy but as of this writing (3 AM on monday) ABC news, and Huffington Post are on it and it’s not a tough bet to conclude that by the time this post goes up Tuesday afternoon it will be all over the news nationally. Now let’s be quite clear, these young idiots have a first amendment right to sing racist songs if they want to, after all the 1st amendment protects offensive speech but rights come with responsibilities so while that same first amendment protects their right to act this way it doesn’t protect them from the consequences of said actions from both the national fraternity:

and the college itself

These young fools are about to learn a valuable lesson about cause and effect.  Lets hope it sticks.

2.  Item:  No Whites Allowed this is a progressive event!

Apparently for one school in Chicago “Black History Month” is for black students only:

An Illinois high school principal is defending his decision to exclude white students from a “Black Lives Matter” event held at his school.

On February 27th, Oak Park and River Forest High School principal, Nathaniel Rouse, hosted a “Black Lives Matter” event exclusively for black students. The assembly was intended to culminate Black History Month with a discussion on race relations. Approximately 350 black individuals attended the event. When white students attempted to attend the assembly, however, they were denied entry.

Yeah that’s going to do wonders for race relations at the school. As you might suspect parents at this Chicago area school were not pleased

The white parents reported that their students were turned away when they tried to attend the Black Lives Matter event. The parents said they were offended that in a school and community that prides itself on diversity and inclusion that students who wanted to attend would be excluded.

But school Principal Nathaniel Rouse, who organized the event and is black, said that wasn’t the intent.

“First and foremost, this is not meant to give a connotation that we were trying to be exclusive,” Rouse said.

Right because nothing says “inclusion” like excluding students based on race. Perhaps principal Rouse can hold a “Separate but equal” assembly for the white students.

Now unlike the first story this one involves actions taken by a mature adult in authority who is named, yet a google news search for “Nathaniel Rouse” shows that outside of Chicago only the daily caller and Biz Pak review found this story newsworthy.

3.  Item: Clarence Thomas,  the KKK, who can tell the difference?

Clarence Thomas has been a member of the United States Supreme Court for twenty-four years.  Before the election of Barack Obama to the White House he was the highest ranking black man in the United States government and unless a person of color replaces President Obama or he leaves the court before the president leaves office on Jan 20th 2017 he will regain that distinction.

So how does the Barron’s 7th Edition guide for AP history describe him?  Like so:

The latest version of a top-selling study guide for the Advanced Placement European History exam explains the French Revolution with a chart which identifies Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas as a fascist and pairs him with the Ku Klux Klan.

Far be it for me to label either Barrons, the maker of this guide or the authors: Seth A. Roberts (a DC area high school teacher) and James M. Eder racists, but one might think that identifying a black man who was born in the segregated south under Jim Crow, who was the only black student in his high school, who rose to become a member of the highest judicial court in the land with the KKK might be crossing a line.

Of course it’s always possible that the authors and the company figured given how far left politically higher education leans these days such a comparison might help a student get accepted.

Now you might think that a leading publisher equating a black supreme court justice with the KKK might be a story the media would be interested in, but other than the Daily Caller story liked in the title not one other result show up on Google News about this.

————————————-

Each of these stories are about racism, the actions of the people involved in all of them are offensive & outrageous to me, but their news coverage given to these stories is inversely related to the degree of outrage the subjects of these stories deserve.  Think about it:

The first story concerns college students in a frat.  By definition you are dealing kids in their teen & early twenty who are by definition the least experienced, the least educated and the least restrained of young adults.  While they are, in my opinion old enough to know better and completely responsible for their actions I expect less from them they I would older responsible adults.

Furthermore consider the actions of the responsible adults.  Once this information became public both the national fraternity and the college administration acted decisively.  The adults in the room, either motivated by outrage or the free market or both wasted no time in nipping this in the bud.

It’s a story worth reporting and I have no grudge with the media reporting it.

Now consider the 2nd story.  Unlike the first one involving students the person involved an educator, a responsible adult, and not only a responsible adult but an adult in charge of an entire school.

Furthermore an assembly involves other faculty at the school, this suggests that other teachers in the school were at least aware of the rules of said assembly.  The various stories do mention this fact.  We don’t know if the other teachers had any objections or bothered to voice said possible objections.

I might snark about”Separate but equal” but these people are supposed to be educators.  If “Separate but Equal” came to mind to an old blogger can you explain how it doesn’t occur to people who teach for a living?

Yet this story, a story of separate but equal in on of the largest cities in the nation is not getting any press or outrage even though it involves responsible adults as opposed to dumb college frat boys.

Now consider the final story.

There are two authors to this book one of them is high school educator I don’t know anything of the other, however Barron’s is a leading publisher of such items as a leading publisher likely has an editorial staff that would go over titles of this nature.

Furthermore we are not talking about a single assembly at a single school, you are talking a commercial product that is being sold to students all over the country by one of the leading producers of such products whose author and editorial staff saw nothing wrong with grouping Justice Thomas with a group of murderous racists.

That a professional organization would not only do this, but would propagate such an opinion to a national audience is disgusting and in a world with an unbiased press such actions would produce a lot of press and an abject apology.

However not only does the media have no interest in this story, I strongly suspect if the media saw it they would be fist pumping with glee.

So lets summarize:

Professional Organization telling students nationwide that Clarence Thomas is just like the KKK not newsworthy or a big deal.

High School principal excluding students from an assembly based on race.  Pretty much a local story and both justifiable & no big deal because it was white students being excluded.

College kids singing racist song on a bus.  The most important story of our time and a sign that the United States is the most evil country in the world.

Q:  How do we know that Michael Bloomberg is not considered a “Republican” by the media?

Imagine if any conservative suggested this:

Bloomberg Suggests Banning Young Minority Males from Gun Ownership

Speaking to the Aspen Institute on February 6, Michael Bloomberg said cities should ban young minority males from owning guns, both as an effort to reduce crime and to keep those minority males “alive.”

According to The Aspen Times, Bloomberg addressed a variety of topics, and after commenting on poverty and education, he discussed guns. The Times reported that he said, “Cities need to get guns out of [the] … hands” of persons who are “male, minority, and between the ages of 15 and 25.”

via powerline who notes

As many southern blacks from the civil rights era will tell you, it was their ownership of guns that kept the violence against blacks (from Democrats, let us remember—Bull Connor was a member of the Democratic National Committee) from being even worse than it was.  Sure we have gang-bangers today who take a fearsome toll.  But how many law abiding minorities in bad neighborhoods want to place their safety in the hands of the response times of Mayor DeBlasio’s NYPD right now?

Picture if Ted Cruz, Mitt Romney or Bill O’Reilly said something like this, would there be any other story in the media anywhere?

Mike Bloomberg is not a Mitt Romney, O’Reilly or Ted Cruz (the latter as a 2nd amendment friend would never even think this) He is an ally of the left and a potential source of hundreds of millions of dollars for their causes and themselves and no amount of statements that would make any contender for the white house an “unperson” will cause the left to throw away a potential gravy train.
