Of course, people are still talking about the Orlando Islamic terrorist attack. And many of the funerals are probably being conducted this weekend. And the government, after so miserably failing to protect Americans once again is contemplating at least two methods of stripping law-abiding Americans from two areas of protection mandated in the Bill of Rights.

After San Bernardino, I remember wondering when the next time a Muslim would shoot up/blow up another set of Americans. No great insight was necessary to predict that it would occur again and now it has. And there will be a next time.

And the ridiculous shifting of blame from Muslims onto Christians will happen again, as well. How high will that mountain of lies be by then?

Funny thing (not funny ha-ha)—I believe that the blaming of Christians for something that an enemy of Christians does is a meme set in motion by a finite and unnamed group of government actors—a tactic made easier by Social Media, especially Twitter. As a result, individual anti-theists—along with other haters of the Church–grab it and run with it. This finite group and its witting and unwitting lackeys couldn’t care less whether the connection between being against same-sex marriage and murdering homosexuals makes sense or not. And the lackeys hope that the government cracks down on Christians. Why? Because we disagree with them.

But what is the hope of the unnamed government group? This isn’t difficult to predict either.

Every mass shooting is an opportunity for this unnamed group to stir up the hue and cry to ban guns. Additionally, every mass shooting not involving blacks as perpetrator or victim is an opportunity to stir up hatred toward Christians. In the one recent case where the victims were black Christians–Charleston— the unnamed group had to pivot to the Confederate flag as the thing to be denounced.)

But guns are always the primary target—if you’ll pardon the pun. Always. Because guns in the hand of citizens is the last defense against what the unnamed government group wants; complete control of the American citizenry—all races, straights, gays, Christians, Jews, atheists, Hindus, Sikhs…

You’ll notice I left Muslims off the list. The unnamed group wants them to have guns and to conduct more terror. That’s proven by both the events in San Bernardino and in Orlando…and many other events I’m not inclined to look up at the moment. And the unnamed group wants other chaotic elements–think drug cartels–to keep their guns, too.

Should the banning of guns occur, these violent elements–and others like them–will run wild, causing the larger American populace to beg for government protection.

And we’ll get it. And it will be the worst thing that has ever happened in this country.

That’s the plan. But you already knew.

I found myself thinking back on the last few weeks, especially on the San Bernardino Islamic Terror Attack. This was spurred by happening upon the unbelievable libeling of one of the victims–Nicholas Thalasinos—by one fortuitously-named New York Daily News columnist, Linda Stasi. Her surname, of course calls to mind the old East Germany and, from there, I remembered one of the many other times in which a mainstream media sort received push-back from the serfs.

Originally posted on January 23, 2008.

A few years back [sic], veteran editor Tina Brown opined that “bloggers were the new Stasi.” In response, I opined that if our journalistic betters were going to hurl epithets at us that it wasn’t too much to ask that they know what those epithets mean so that they could be sure that the epithet was appropriate before hurling it. “Stasi” is German shorthand for Staatssicherheit— literally ‘state security,’ the late East Germany’s infamous and feared secret police force. Think of all the images and concepts conjured by the phrase “secret police force in a communist country.”

The Stasi not only embodied those images and concepts, it defined them. As far as I know, bloggers have not banded together to kick down doors and drag ideological enemies away for interrogation and/or confinement. Banding together to fact-check and trade information on the public writings of our betters as we imbibe adult beverages isStasianother story, however. But now, I can see where Brown’s comparison made some semblance of sense; the Stasi watched the every move of every citizen and visitor in German Democratic Republic and bloggers watch every move of professional journalists.

One might also argue that with all of the personal cameras and microphones lurking around every corner to capture images of everything happening that some bloggers are fast approaching the Stasi’s level of nosiness. But Brown’s metaphor was still a very imperfect one. I thought that journalists wanted their offerings read and dissected.

Anyway, that’s a setup to point you to the fascinating story of the STASI’s legacy, dark as it is, and the attempts to preserve that very tangible legacy as a reminder. Embodying stereotype of German efficiency, the Stasi kept meticulous records of everyone they surveilled. In the wake of the fall of the Berlin Wall, they succeed in destroying roughly 5% of it.

That might not sound like much, but the agency had generated perhaps more paper than any other bureaucracy in history — possibly a billion pages of surveillance records, informant accounting, reports on espionage, analyses of foreign press, personnel records, and useless minutiae. There’s a record for every time anyone drove across the border.

Which means I have one. [While in the USAF, I was stationed in West Berlin 1985-1989 and 1990-1991.]

In the chaos of the days leading up to the actual destruction of the wall and the fall of East Germany’s communist government, frantic STASI agents sent trucks full of documents to the Papierwolfs and Reisswolfs — literally “paper-wolves” and “rip-wolves,” German for shredders. As pressure mounted, agents turned to office shredders, and when the motors burned out, they started tearing pages by hand — 45 million of them, ripped into approximately 600 million scraps of paper.

There’s no way to know what bombshells those files hide. For a country still trying to come to terms with its role in World War II and its life under a totalitarian regime, that half-destroyed paperwork is a tantalizing secret.

The machine-shredded stuff is confetti, largely unrecoverable. But in May 2007, a team of German computer scientists in Berlin announced that after four years of work, they had completed a system to digitally tape together the torn fragments. Engineers hope their software and scanners can do the job in less than five years — even taking into account the varying textures and durability of paper, the different sizes and shapes of the fragments, the assortment of printing (from handwriting to dot matrix) and the range of edges (from razor sharp to ragged and handmade.) “The numbers are tremendous. If you imagine putting together a jigsaw puzzle at home, you have maybe 1,000 pieces and a picture of what it should look like at the end,” project manager Jan Schneider says. “We have many millions of pieces and no idea what they should look like when we’re done.”

The wholesale destruction of the files was prevented by the East German citizens themselves.

In several small cities, rumors started circulating that records were being destroyed. Smoke, fires, and departing trucks confirmed the fears of angry Germans, who rushed in to their local Stasi offices, stopped the destruction, and spontaneously organized citizen committees that could post guards to secure the archives. Demonstrators spray-painted the walls with slogans like “The files belong to us” and “Stasi get out.” Finally, on the evening of January 15, 1990, thousands of demonstrators pushed in the front gate of the Stasi’s fortified Berlin compound.

It’s long, but very interesting–especially in light of the fact that some of our betters seem to be forgetting the inefficiencies and abuses inherent in socialist/communist governments–or hoping that the average citizens forgets. Read the whole thing.

That Germany is dead, but the post Reunification Germany is dying. And in spite of all of Germany’s crimes and stupidities, this makes me sad.

There is one more point I would like to make concerning Linda Stasi’s Piece in the NY Daily News beyond what I said yesterday

There is a sentence in said piece where Stasi was condemning one of the terror victims from San Bernardino that our friends at Gateway Pundit highlighted.

The killer, however, became half of an Islamic Bonnie & Clyde, while the other died as the male equivalent of Pamela Geller.

This line speaks volumes and I submit and suggest that this was not a coincidence or just a bit of hyperbole, this was a dog whistle.

This was a message to potential Islamic killers that the New York Daily News and Linda Stasi believe that their sworn enemy Pamela Geller a US citizen who has spoken out about the dangers of Jihadist terrors are considered beyond the pale by them and that while it is required of them to offer pro-forma condemnation of any attempt to murder her, as far as they are concerned she has it coming.

It is a very public proclamation that while you might have a few disagreements on issues such as gay marriage (or more relevant concerning ISIS gays being tossed off of roofs) the NY Daily News and Linda Stasi are not completely unsympathetic to Muslim grievances and feeling that apparently drive them to murder.

Jake Tapper in a tweet yesterday noted the oddity of the tone that he is seeing concerning San Bernardino

Jake I don’t think it’s strange at all. The whole concept of joining the “kill me last” caucus is about establishing to the potential killers you should not be considered a legitimate target. Of trying to preserve one own’s life, unlike the secondary target of the Daily News Piece Pam Geller who bravely asks the question Stasi, the Daily News and many journalists will not.

American Muslims for the umpteenth time are wailing about a fear of reprisals – reprisals that never actually come in reality, but are always the focus of media obsession after every jihad attack. The blood of American Christians and Jews is still on the floor and the walls of a Christmas party, and they are playing the victim. How savage.

Why aren’t American Muslims mourning our dead? Why aren’t American Muslims using their money and influence to call for an “enlightenment” in Islam, a purge of the Quran and the Islamic texts and teachings that call for jihad and genocide?

The difference is quite striking isn’t it.

I’m fond of life and I’m sure Pam is too, but may I never be so fond of life that I would treat those who would murder either a friend such as Pam Geller or a person I hold in contempt such as Cecile Richards, with sympathy simply to increase the odds of saving my own skin.

I know you can get the MSM for nothing, but that’s pretty much what most of them are worth.

One of the things biggest difference between an MSM reporter and a blogger is editorial discretion.

Individual bloggers are their own editors. On an individual blog with nobody looking over your shoulder you are more likely to get not only the occasional spelling and grammar error but, depending on the blogger, to get occasional f-bomb, vulgarity and outrageous opinions that would never make a newspaper.

In contrast when I do an occasional piece for watchdog.org I have an editor who occasionally send pieces back for rewrites or rejection if it doesn’t meet their needs or standards. When my Weinergate blogpost was rewritten as an opinion piece in the  NY Post (leading to my appearance on Fox Boston) the Post was very careful with it taking several drafts & making sure nothing I made no unsubstantiated claims.

It is this fact that makes the placement of Linda Stasi’s piece in the New York Daily News worse than the content.

To be sure the content itself is reprehensible

They were two hate-filled, bigoted municipal employees interacting in one department. Now 13 innocent people are dead in unspeakable carnage.

One man spent his free time writing frightening, NRA-loving, hate-filled screeds on Facebook about the other’s religion.

The other man quietly stewed and brewed his bigotry, collecting the kind of arsenal that the Facebook poster would have envied.

and has drawn rebuke from folks from Erick Erickson:

The left keeps reaching new lows. This really is amazing. The New York Daily News’ Linda Stasi has penned a piece attacking one of the victims killed by the terrorists in California.

Turns out he is an evangelical, born-again Messianic Jew and NRA member. Therefore, he can be attacked and defamed after being killed by terrorists

To Rod Dreher

It is vile, utterly vile, that Linda Stasi and the Daily News would speak of a murdered man that way. So, what, does the Daily News now reserve the right to look into the opinions of all murder victims, and if they don’t like what they see, publish columns saying that they are no better than the man who slaughtered them?

Stasi here reminds me of the old black-humor joke: “Sure, Hitler hated the Jews. But to be fair, the Jews also hated Hitler.”

And if this was Linda Stasi writing on her blog for all the well deserved critique it might draw it would be of no more consequence than the ravings of the assorted twentysomething feminists that Stacy McCain mocks. It would be a blogger ranting and the onus would rightly be exclusively on her.

But that’s not what happened.

This piece didn’t run on a person blog, it ran in the New York Daily News (Alexa Rank 783) a major American Newspaper in the Largest City in the United States and decided to put it under the masthead.

Think about that.

Not only did the layers of editor and fact checkers at the New York Daily News decide that Ms. Stasi’s piece was worthy of publication in their paper, but they upon consideration concluded that it belonged under the masthead for every reader to see.

To put this in proper perspective imagine if the New York Daily News running such a piece attacking a 9/11 victim on September 14th 2001.  Or maybe on the next anniversary of 9/11 picture the city removing the names of any victims who were members of the NRA.

To be sure Linda Stasi has a first amendment right to say, think and write what she wants. She has a right to try and distribute those opinions to as wide an audience as she can muster by whatever platforms are willing to give her space to do so.

She however doesn’t have a first amendment right to the Masthead of the New York Daily News, that had to be given to her by the paper’s affirmative consent and the New York Daily News and it’s editorial board should be judged accordingly.

It is said that a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged by reality, the corollary being of course that as long as a liberal does not have to deal with unpleasant realities, they will have no reason to remove oneself from their beliefs.

This explains the streak of liberalism in the very very rich. Once you reach a particular level of wealth there is very little for you to actually fear, the basic needs that everyone has, food, shelter, safety, medical care, are taken care of while the things that add to life: companionship, sexual desire (there is nothing that makes you more attractive to the opposite sex than wealth, if you don’t believe me ask Summer Redstone), entertainment, prestige are available with very little effort or at a price that can be afforded.

It also explains the liberalism of those in particular jobs, a tenured college professor for example has a secure job for life. While they don’t have the lifestyle of the very rich barring massive stupidity the basic needs will be set and many of the things that add to life come with the job at no additional charge.

This extends to a lesser degree to people who have jobs they can’t be fired from (think government bureaucracy) , pols and the press at the highest levels who thanks to their position and connections have entrée to many of these things. The big variable for them are the approval of those above them who have the power to take these things away.

This is the thing you must understand before anything else when you look at the left’s reaction to San Bernardino.

Many of us on the right are completely perplexed by their reaction. From the pushing of gun laws that would be totally ineffective against the problem to pushing of a “workplace violence” meme to the avoidance of naming Islamic Terror their memes are, to they eyes of us conservatives, a completely illogical reaction.

This is not the case.

The mistake that conservatives make here is looking at the situation though our eyes and value systems which makes such reactions seem warped. If however you look at this through the eyes of a comfortable liberalism it all makes perfect sense.

In the safe space of liberalism, all of these events are things that happen to other people. The only way they become your problem is if you make it your problem. So how do you keep it from being your problem? Change the subject

Make this a “guns” issue along or a “workplace violence” issue. These are things that have no connection to the liberal world. Thus it doesn’t affect their status quo.

After all if the issue is guns, then as people either with bodyguards or working in a place with a guarded building the removal of weapons from others doesn’t affect them. If the issue is workplace violence, again that doesn’t phase them, they see themselves as not being in such an environment themselves.

But more important than this is the concept of doing all that can be done to avoid giving offence to radical Islam even to the point of promising to prosecute those who defame Islam.

Again this is completely rational.

It’s one thing to critique the NRA, the Catholic Church pro-lifers, the tea party and the GOP because for all the left’s protestation to the contrary, they know that none of these groups can affect their comfortable lives, let alone harm them.

Islam is the great barrier breaker, if a person has decided to kill you and more important doesn’t care if they live through the attempt then all bets are off.

Suddenly the reporter is in danger on every assignment, suddenly the professor is insecure in their classroom, suddenly for the celebrity every entrance and exit to an event is a choke point to be ambushed in. Even the swankiest restaurant is not safe, remember the fanaticism of Islam is not restricted to the poorest of the poor.

In other words they have something to lose, and they certainly aren’t going to risk the comfort they possess to fight a threat that likely isn’t going to be able to get them anyways, particularly if you are a secular progressive who isn’t expecting anything better after this life.

So they attack climate change, or shared bathrooms or guns or any other made up threat and not speak of radical Islam expect to denounce those who warn of the danger:

Pam and those who warn of Radical Islam are Fiver calling for help for those caught in a snare. Her detractors are Cowslip the head of the snared warren. To oppose radical Islam requires a courage they don’t have and to openly admit appeasement acknowledges a cowardice they can’t bear. Much easier to not talk about it and preserve their illusion of dignity.

Much better to remain in the comfort of their walls both physical or mental, after all it’s unlikely the Islamist will get around to them in their lifetime if they just keep their mouths shut.

Update:  This fyi also explains the liberal reluctance to take on the gangs in the city, why put yourself at risk when it’s only poor blacks and Hispanics that will vote for you anyway who will die?

Update 2: If you want to see the end result of the “Kill me last” caucus meet the “rape me last” caucus.

Dateline: December 2, 2015, San Bernardino, California. Two heavily armed shooters kill 14 people at a Christmas party.

Narrative: “Passing common-sense gun laws that makes it harder for people with bad intentions to get guns makes the country safer.
Fact: Rifles Used in San Bernardino Shooting Illegal Under State Law. Weapons were legally purchased with magazine locking devices but altered to make them more powerful, ATF finds. Additionally, 2 of the guns were not purchased by the users, which means they were used illegally, and were illegal under federal law. Here’s an overview of gun control laws in California.

Narrative: Immigrant screenings are reliable and complete.
Fact:

Shooting suspect Tashfeen Malik passed a DHS counterterrorism screening as part of her vetting for a K-1 fiancee visa last year, but barring any criminal or terrorist background there was little chance DHS would have been able to detect whether she had become radicalized.

Vetting only works if you vet for the right thing

Narrative: San Bernardino Suspects Left Trail of Clues, but No Clear Motive
Fact: Farook and Malik met in 2013 during the former’s trip to Mecca.

Farook himself had talked by phone and on social media with more than one person being investigated for terrorism, law enforcement officials said.

Fact:

Investigators think that as the San Bernardino, California, attack was happening, female shooter Tashfeen Malik posted a pledge of allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi on Facebook

———————————————-
Narrative: Workplace violence provoked by an argument.
Fact: Substantial evidence of a pre-planned attack:

Sources say mobile phones, hard drives, virtually anything with digital memory that was associated with the alleged shooters — Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik — was smashed

Fact: The weapons amassed:

Police said they found an eye-popping 2,500 rounds for assault rifles and 2,000 rounds for handguns inside the home in nearby Redlands.

Investigators also found a dozen pipe bomb-style devices and hundreds of tools that police said could be used to build improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Call it THE DOG THAT WON’T QUIT BARKING, or a pathological denial of reality, we’re way past the point of having to listen to narratives.

Question, given the number of California gun laws the San Bernardino attackers happily violated how would new ones deter them?

Take your time.

Update: via Instapundit ATF Says Weapons Used in San Bernardino Shooting Were Illegal in California.

In fact they were illegal under federal law:

Modifying a gun for fully automatic fire is illegal in every state, it’s a federal law. A VERY SERIOUS federal law.

As of this writing ( 9 PM EST before I head to work) the FBI is starting lean toward terror as the source of the attack in San Bernardino & ISIS is certainly pushing the meme on social media

But the New York Daily news has found the real culpret, God

All over twitter our friends on the left have been attacking those who would pray for the victims in San bernardino, at least one Democrat Senator is attacking it as is the Huffington Post.

This reaction against prayer should not be a surprise. I would remind you that the reason why I left the party myself was their hostility to religion and the largest single group in the democrat party based on religion is “no religious affiliation

The Left has become increasingly secular and given the choice between fighting a war on terror against islamic foes or a war on prayer against republicans they’ll choose the later every time.
