One of the things that our friends in the GOP have never seemed to figure out is what motivates the Tea Party / Conservative movement.

Lee Stranahan’s reporting not withstanding the vast majority of the people who got involved in the Tea Party movement did not have an interest in making a career out of politics nor were out to make their fortune and it certainly wasn’t a sign of love for the GOP

“Who here trusts the GOP?” Not a single hand went up, but people over and over promised me that if the GOP spent like the democrats they would be back to throw them out too. No wonder the GOP is scared of the tea party.

…it was because of the problems that people saw and wanted to solve. Which is exactly the point that Sarah Palin is making

The key line

We’re not here to re-brand a party, we’re here to rebuild a country

The GOP perception of the Tea Party is like the CSA perception of England during the Trent Affair. It wasn’t until after Mason and Slidel’s release that the Confederates realized England only acted to protect their own interests.

At the NLRC both Mark Steyn & John Fund noted that thanks to the two-party system the GOP will likely win by default in 2014 as they did in 2010 but as Fund said, they will only keep power if they use that power to act according to the interests of the people who elect them.

Sarah Palin understands this, would that the GOP did.

It’s Sunday and this is the worst position we’ve ever started a week in.

We could make our entire weekly goal today and still be over $600 shy of the mortgage payment.

There is no way to sugar coat it, after missing our weekly goal for the last 3 weeks and six out of the last seven we are a full $1015 shy of the mortgage payment with 9 days left to the month.

we need a minimum of four $25 tip jar hitters every day for the next nine days simply to come up a mere $100 short.

We can make our goal but only you help. If there was ever a time for you to kick in if you were thinking of it, it’s now.

So I’m asking you to hit DaTipJar below if you possibly can.

One of the arguments I’ve been making for years is that selling conservatism is not hard.

Conservatism has a virtue of a history of success both fiscally and socially that our liberal friends can not match.  Unfortunately due to the left dominating the educational system if you are 40 or under you wouldn’t know it.

Think of it if you told people of an era when such things were common they might think it was ancient history:

Teen suicide was practically unheard of,

Intact families were the norm rather than divorce

Schools taught facts rather than ideology

Cities & the country built great things

Parents and the elderly were held in esteem

Kids could feel safe in their neighborhoods

It was safe to walk streets

There were no police in schools nor need for them

Kids actually played tag and ran during recess without fear

College was not about getting drunk or high

All of these things are in living memory but our society & culture would not only have us forget them but pretend that it all came from a goal of keeping women down.

Consider this Morning Joe Clip from Friday:

Mika might be shocked, but I’m not. This didn’t happen in a vacuum it’s the inevitable result of abandoning conservative vales. Values that Sarah Palin reminds conservative women that are worth advancing as a grand legacy handed down from the giants who came before.

Start evangelizing

Sarah Palin understand the appeal of conservatism, the sooner we start going on offense, taking the fight to the culture and taking on the left on ground of our own choosing the sooner we will win.

Would that the rest of the party figured that out.

Day 11: Real Feminism

Of the clips Of Sarah Palin’s speech that I recorded at CPAC this was the shortest

The Donkey vs Mama Grizzley quote was kinda weak, but the question to liberals:

Who are the real woman liberators?

is well taken, particularly when we consider Miriam Weeks:

Duke University freshman Miriam Weeks, who has recently become notorious as porn star Belle Knox, is a “cutter,” with visible scars that show her history of self-harm. “Apparently her ex-boyfriend that cheated on her told her she was fat so she carved the word into her thigh.”

The idea that the daughter of an affluent doctor began shooting porn videos because she couldn’t afford tuition always seemed a bit strange, and her claims that doing porn was “empowering,” an expression of “sexual autonomy,” were even stranger. It is becoming obvious that she has struggled with mental health issues for many years, and the liberal media’s ostentatious posture of non-judgmentalism isn’t really the kind of help she needs.

This is the woman who was celebrated on CNN’s Piers Morgan’s and featured on ABC’s The View:

Sarah Palin’s question on being liberated would certainly apply to Miriam weeks. Mrs. Palin might ask: Are you really “liberated” by the liberal Democrat culture and media that celebrates and encourages you to, for pay, let filmmakers shoot strange men ejaculating on your face for the purpose of selling said film to other men and women worldwide for their masturbatory pleasure?

I would think Mrs. Palin would suggest instead taking the full boat at Vanderbilt sans debt or degradation might be a tad more liberating.

Update: I know crazy when I see it.

I remember when Sarah Palin was picked to be the GOP nominee for VP the leftist web site The Reclusive Leftist was absolutely delighted at her nomination.

Violet was one of the few leftists and liberals who were absolutely appalled at the sexism at the sexism directed at Governor Palin and even after Barack Obama was safely elected she still was having none of it.

One reason I’ve written as many posts as I have about Palin is because I’m so baffled by the reaction to her..

…the first answer you’ll get if you ask feminists why they hate Sarah Palin is that “it’s because she ____” — and then fill in the blank with the lie of choice: made rape victims pay for their own kits, is against contraception or sex ed, believes in abstinence-only, thinks the dinosaurs were here 4000 years ago, doesn’t believe in global warming, doesn’t believe in evolution, is stupid and can’t read, etc., etc., etc., etc.

But none of those things is true. None of them.

Violet took the time to find out what Sarah Palin actually said and did, and while they disagree on abortion she found most of the stuff said about her were BS and made that case to other however…

But after you’ve had a few of these myth-dispelling conversations, you start to realize that it doesn’t matter. These people don’t hate Palin because of the lies; the lies exist to justify the hate. That’s why they keep reaching and reaching for something else, until they finally get to “she winked on TV!”

She should not have been surprised as the Obama types where just as hard on Feminists asking questions about irregularities in the 2008 Democrat primary.

Ironically the movie “we will not be silenced” was never made, apparently they WERE silenced.

That willingness to be played is exactly what Sarah Palin is addressing here:

As a pro-life, pro-marriage, Roman Catholic I don’t expect many feminists to take my word, but I invite women to watch that clip from Sarah Palin and consider the question she asks: which party acts as if the totality of your being is your reproductive organs?

It’s not the party of Marilinda Garica.

Yesterday we talked about how unexpected the win in Fl-13 was, today lets remind folk about 2010.

If you are new to the story you might not remember the days before 2010 when GOP stalwarts told us our only chance was to cooperate with Barack Obama, to refuse to fight back against Barack Obama, to accept the changes that Barack Obama was offering.

The only two people who seemed to be in a fighting mood were Rush Limbaugh & Sarah Palin.

It wasn’t til the Brown win that any of this started to change and as late as January 8th 2010 (the election was the 19th) the Boston Phoenix ran this story which said (emphasis mine)

In less than two weeks, when Massachusetts voters elect Martha Coakley to the US Senate — let’s not pretend that Republican state senator Scott Brown has any chance of pulling off the monumental upset — they will trigger a massive domino effect that has the state’s political class buzzing with anticipation.

Even after Scott Brown won in Massachusetts shocking the entire country the MSM was in denial. As late as October 2010 we were seeing stories like this:

And posts like this from Politico

Top Democratic officials are convinced, and even some Republicans privately concede, that what’s happening is that party loyalists are coming home and other voters are beginning to assess both candidates in individual races.

“The early polls were really a gauge of people’s anger, but more recent polls are a gauge of people’s options,” Delaware Gov. and Democratic Governors Association Chairman Jack Markell told POLITICO.

What’s driving Democratic optimism is improving polling numbers — both in individual races and in generic indicators — ramped-up fundraising and their field efforts.

It wasn’t until the One Nation & Jon Stewart Rally crashed and burned that the MSM tuned their narrative the day before the election:

That’s why these remarks by Sarah Palin’s remarks are so important

Sarah reminds us that you advance by moving forward and being unafraid to fight.

In 2010 the GOP stepped back and let the Tea Party carry them over the finish line, in 2012 the decided that the Tea Party was not needed for victory and lost.

It’s 2014 and the GOP needs to decide if it wants to dance with the Tea Party that gave them the House majority. There is no reason why the GOP & the Tea Party working together should not guarantee huge GOP victories winning seats in the house and capturing the Senate.

If the GOP doesn’t realize this and decides it’s more important to defeat the Tea Party then the Democrats then will foolishly get their wish.

Nothing is more certain that the Democrats are in trouble as illustrated by the results of election in Florida 13.

Wherever you turn you hear about how that vote is a harbinger of doom for the left both because that was a district that Alex Sink won when running for Governor and because she, unlike  incumbents in congress never cast a vote for Obamacare.

But while this conventional wisdom has become a lock in the last seven days 10 days ago this wasn’t the case.

A lot of people are forgetting that the GOP candidate was written off by the establishment and all the buzz a few days before the election was about the GOP establishment laying the groundwork of blame for the defeat they were anticipating. It was going to be due to a bad team, a bad message, his unambiguous opposition to illegal immigration all contrary to the GOP mantra, look at this segment from MSNBC the day before:

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

He won anyway.

That willingness of the establishment to play the Democrats game is exactly what Sarah Palin addressed here.

To be sure there were last minute issues & factors that helped in FL-13 but If Jolly had followed the establishment advice and ran farther away from his base, would the conventional wisdom be different today?

Sarah Palin knows that answer.

Today things are getting a lot worse in Ukraine:
BBC:

Some 95.5% of voters in Crimea have supported joining Russia, officials say, after half the votes have been counted in a disputed referendum.

Crimea’s leader says he will apply to join Russia on Monday. Russia’s Vladimir Putin has said he will respect the Crimean people’s wishes.

Many Crimeans loyal to Kiev boycotted the referendum, and the EU and US condemned it as illegal.

The New York Times:

While the world’s attention is trained on Ukraine, the Russian authorities are cracking down on independent news outlets here, and scores of young journalists — a group that drove the protests — are facing unemployment. Several major cable and Internet providers have dropped the liberal-leaning news broadcaster Dozhd, a flagship project that began when Dmitri A. Medvedev was president, and its general director has announced that it will close within two months.

and Yahoo news reporting this

A United States surveillance drone has been intercepted above the Ukranian region of Crimea, a Russian state arms and technology group said Friday.

and this:

“Russia is the only country in the world realistically capable of turning the United States into radioactive ash,” anchor Dmitry Kiselyov said on his weekly news show on state-controlled Rossiya 1 television.

Kiselyov made the comment to support his argument that the United States and President Barack Obama were living in fear of Russia led by President Vladimir Putin amid the Ukraine crisis.

all of this has happened a week after Sarah Palin said this:

A week ago Sarah Palin stated that president Obama has little sway over Mr. Putin. Today it’s been proved.

Day 4: Why Sarah Feels Good

One of most rightly criticized stratagems in football is the Prevent defense.

The principle for those who don’t know football is pretty basic, with a large lead late in the game a team plays a loose defense guarding only against the big play and the sidelines.  The idea it to “prevent” a mistake or a big play that could result in scoring although it tends to allow an awful lot of yardage.

What it also tends to do allow an opponent to build momentum and get back into a game.  There is example after example of prevent defense leading to teams regaining confidence and roaring back in games that had looked safely in the bag.

This is pretty much the plan of the GOP as Sarah Palin describes it. The GOP is convinced their best plan is to simply let the president’s healthcare plan, economy and foreign policy implode on their own.

Sarah however notes that unlike a football game, allowing Barack Obama to be a weak president things like this happen:

With a referendum on secession looming in Crimea, Russia massed troops and armored vehicles in at least three regions along Ukraine’s eastern border on Thursday, alarming the interim Ukraine government about a possible invasion and significantly escalating tensions in the crisis between the Kremlin and the West.

If you don’t have a strong defense in football you give up yardage and point, if you don’t have a strong defense in America, real people all over the world suffer.

Sarah knows this cost, does the GOP?

Day 1: The Crowd
Day 2: The Entrance
Day 3: Dr. Seuss

As she was continuing her Green Eggs and Ham re-write I noted that there was a spot to my left that gave me an angle that would give me a clear shot of the Podium without the lights in the background messing me up.

cpac last 069

Once there I settled in and alternatives between recording my clip and taking individual shots and got listening to the speech just as she was finishing her rhyme.

After long applause she noted the giants of the current conservative movement from Cruz to Paul & Lee in the Senate to Gowdy & Gohmert in the house noting it’s “time to send them reinforcements”.  This drew more applause but it was after this that she got to the heart of the problem, the corporation between the crony capitalists & the income redistribution to the politically favored.

It is that intersection that is the source of the push back against the Tea Party.  Palin talked about how Tea Party pols are offering solutions, acting on behalf of all those Americans without connections to counter both sides that are trying to feather their nest at the public expense.

That’s why She expresses optimism and she should. Historically the idea that a movement of ordinary people has achieved so much given the alliance of those on both sides of the aisle pushing against them is astounding and believe me Sarah Palin knows a bit about being pushed against

)

All of this is a testament to the greatness of both America & its people. For all of our faults as a nation how can we not be optimistic about something like that?

This is the third in a series of posts and clips from Sarah Palin’s appearance at CPAC 2014 part 1 is here part 2 is here.

About five minutes into Governor Palin’s speech the staff rotated out some of the press out and I was able to get a spot in front of the podium.

It turned out not to be a very good spot as the light behind didn’t do much for the shot and the angle to record or to take a shot

cpac last 066

But no matter the deficiencies of the angle as I jockeyed for position with reporters and camera people all around me. Sarah Palin is still Sarah Palin with a sharp and cutting wit to make plain to the public the realities around them and an understanding how the MSM works

So while the MSM played Ted Cruz reading Green Eggs and ham and ignored everything else he said, they sure were not going to play lines like this…

…because those modified Seuss quotes hit too close to risk playing them to a public that might nod in agreement.
