A few days ago my eldest niece (who bears a striking resemblance to Maria Bartiromo) picked up my wife for a wedding shower for the soon to be spouse of my 2nd youngest nephew who gets married this month.

The bride to be is a beautiful, intelligent and gainfully employed young woman, the type of young lady I hope my own sons eventually find.  Her husband to be, my nephew is fit, handsome, intelligent and likewise gainfully employed.  They make an excellent match and I’m rather happy for both him and my brother his father.

The event did not garner any press, there will be no articles in the local or national papers and if you search for any gossip concerning it at the sites of Perez Hilton, Variety or Inside Edition you will likely be disappointed, although you just might find a picture of the quilt my wife made for them on her facebook page.

The reason for this is simple, My nephew and his bride to be are not people of great fame nor have they to my knowledge sought to be. In fact it’s very likely that this piece will be the closest thing to attention this blessed union achieves.

They are simply two young people who have worked very hard during their young lives and are now getting ready to begin a hopefully happy family life together and are content to be so.

Contrast that Ms. Cora Segal.

Unlike my nephew, his wife to be or even my niece who so resembles Ms. Bartiromo Ms Segal has not shunned the spotlight.  She has run workshops that have been covered by Vice, The Washington Free Beacon and The Daily Caller which wrote:

Sullivan and Segal also explored the notion that communism and socialism were superior economic systems to capitalism, because capitalism promotes the oppression of fat people and the tyranny of healthy eating.

and furthermore they were able to get sponsorship for this event:

The event was co-sponsored by the Women’s Resource Center, History Department, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Interpretation Theory and the Worth Health Center.

As a fat person who clearly understands that I am overweight due to my own choices and acknowledges the risks involved thereof, I won’t comment on their argument or the groups that choose to sponsor it.  I will only note that scheduling such an event, getting sponsors and opening it to the public by its very nature requests attention.

Now Ms. Segal is in the news again, for her disruptive actions at a University of Massachusetts event featuring nationally and internationally  known writers Christina Hoff Sommers, Milo Yiannopoulos, and Steven Crowder.

Given the nature of the event, the people who attended it, the filming of the event an the ubiquitous of the camera phone one must conclude that the very public actions of Ms. Segal were designed to get attention, to be seen and to be reported on. As Ms. Summers states the event video has gotten over 180K views That she has gotten national attention is not a bug, it’s a feature.

That’s why I’m perplexed when I saw this tweet from Christina Hoff Summers who was one of the objects of Ms. Segal’s wrath that evening.

The reason for my confusion is this:  being noted was the entire purpose of her actions, as Stacy McCain put it

We know who Cora Segal is and we know what Cora Segal believes because Cora Segal has told us these things. Cora Segal is an activist, and when an activist goes to a public event and disrupts it by shouting obscenities — “F–k you! . . . Keep your hate speech off this campus!” — her public activism is newsworthy.

I would submit it’s more than newsworthy for Ms. Segal it’s VITAL for the future she sees for herself!

Consider,  there are literally thousands of young western women whose parents are paying the more than the median income of an American household to be taught how oppressed they are in woman and/or gender” studies programs in the US alone.

However even if such a person manages to get an advanced degree there are in reality a limited number of actual paying jobs for such majors. as Andrea XX discovered

“I have a honors BA and I’m defending my MA thesis in two weeks. I am also apply for jobs and I can only find stuff in the service industry. I applied for a Hotel Front Desk Clerk job today. My degrees mean NOTHING. I am at the end of my rope.“

How does one change such a situation?  Become noticed!

While I’m sure many on the left might not like the idea of Cora Segal being the face of feminist campus activism or might be repelled by the way the nickname #TrigglyPuff  (a takeoff on this Pokemon character Jigglypuff for those who do not know) Ms. Segal now finds herself in an enviable position compared to other obese marxist feminist lesbians.

She now has a national profile

She can now claim “oppression” for the mocking she has received from folks from Iowahawk  to Milo and more.

She is even getting cash offers from the opposition to make her case:

She has gone from being just another , as Steven Crowder put it, elephantine feminist in the room, instead she has achieved that most coveted status in the current western world victimhood!  With careful and  clever manipulation she will be able to parlay these events and her “victimhood” on the college speaking circuit and actually have universities pay her to travel to their locations to make the case not only for her victimhood but to present her beliefs before an admiring audience.

In other words she has actually been put in a position where her outrageous public behavior can give her a living as a professional marxist feminist lesbian.  That is no mean feat.

It’s certainly requires less time, study and effort than the sciences and healthcare path that my Nephew and his wife to be have chosen.

It’s rather amazing actually, if she had pulled her Enfant terrible routine at the wedding shower for my nephew’s betrothed she would have simply been a nut who likely would have been arrested and forgotten.

So cry no tears for Cora “TrigglyPuff” Segal Christina Hoff Summers she has gotten exactly what she wanted from her actions.  That was, in effect her shower and she has received the gift she wanted most of all.

May she be as happy with her chosen path as my Nephew and his bride to be.

the Irony is not lost on me that TrigglyPuff’s $5000 offer from her behavior at UMass Amherst is more than we’ve pulled in four months of writing here at DaTechguy Blog

If you think our behavior his is more valuable than TrigglyPuff’s I’d urge you to hit DaTipJar

Question: What is similar between the protests in Egypt and the protests in Detroit?

Today in Michigan Steven Crowder was assaulted by a crowd of Union Thugs during the “right to work” protests:

I predict that this will get the same condemnation and attention from Democrats local and national and the same attention from the police as this video from Michigan did earlier this year:

Bottom line our friends on the left are totally against violence and insist the police make sure speech is protected per the bill of rights, the Obama/Liberal version of the Bill of rights that is:

Liberal improvements are in red italic

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof unless it in any way conflicts with Obamacare, the liberal agenda or the need for 30 something college students to get laid without personal expense ; or abridging the freedom of speech unless one is a conservative speaker on a college campus, unless said speech in any way conflicts with Union demands or said speech could in any way be considered an insult to the prophet of Islam (peace be upon him)  , or of the press unless the person chooses an uncomfortable time to ask a question to the Obama administration; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble unless they support Israel on a college campus, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances with the understanding that said Government does not have to answer said grievances. relevant section underlined

Clearly Steven Crowder’s actions conflicted with union demands therefore they are not protected per the Obama/Liberal 1st Amendment.

If only conservatives would learn to be quiet and get to the back of the bus everything would be OK.

Update: Stacy McCain has a great roundup

As it got near 5 p.m. indications were that the Occupy movement was returning. I parked myself in a position to see them (missing the Michelle Malkin talk but I was able to see her later). Once outside there was a police presence (not an overwhelming one) ready if needed and the Hotel own security was prepared and professional.

Of course several bloggers went outside and pointed out a woman standing next to a wall with signs behind her back. I approached her and asked for an interview, she declined on camera but told me she was part of the Air Traffic controllers union and got involved in the occupy movement through then,. shortly after we started talking a second woman arrived with a coffee for her and a muffin, when she declined the muffin her friend offered it to me, I at first declined figuring I’d have to have my hands free but she insisted it was very good from a local bakery (highly recommend it btw) but just after I started eating it the rest of the occupods returned in force chanting away:

Sorry wrong chant, but it sure sounded like it.

One of the first things I noticed is that Tony was in the crowd, I greeted him but he seemed less willing to socialize with the main crew there. Note the conversation with the pro-Palestinian protester with them.

After the chant of the occupods was answered by the chant from Dana Loesch’s husband the occupiers recognized Steve Crowder from his role in stopping the occupyers from successfully crashing the conference earlier and got into his face. When they were unable to provoke him and he responded with his famous wit a woman from the group charged him. He instantly raised his hands over his head taking the charge (since the NBS is on strike no free throws were awarded) and the woman literally had to be dragged away by her fellows while the MSM watch and filmed.

One woman stayed behind and has a civil conversation with Moses, Moses Moses who attempted to persuade her that the occupy movement was a poor choices for her activism.

At this point Tabitha Hale asked us to go inside, we did and I briefly talked to Steven Crowder about his run in with the Occupy crowd.

From that point all left, the police remained on duty and were as you might guess warmly received by the Blogcon crowed, I asked one officer about the occupy movement and he noted that they tended to eat up resources better deployed elsewhere.

It’s now 7 p.m. Mountain time and the reception with Michelle Malkin is still in full swing. Will the occupy movement return, word is they plan on visiting again tomorrow and the police and we bloggers will be ready.

Update: Both the local Fox and CBS networks covered the confrontation and talked about it on their evening news

Update 2: So tied up in the news forgot to plug our November fundraiser in full swing. if you would like to help keep DaTechGuy going strong please consider subscribing at any level or kicking in if you can.

…these days:

WALLACE: You don’t think The New York Times is a liberal organization now pushing a liberal agenda?
STEWART: The New York Times – no. I think they are to a certain extent. Do I think they’re relentlessly activist? No. In a purely liberal partisan way? No, I don’t. I think this is — Fox is a very special.

Stewart went on to defend some of the material on his shows,

Why am I not surprised because remember what else would we expect of the originator of the Steven Crowder e-mails:

And furthermore:

And, the layer that protects Jon Stewart broke down too. That’s the layer that kept Leno from looking like the jerk years ago. See, when word got out about the e-mail, Stewart’s apparent reaction wasn’t outrage at his show’s policy, it was outrage that Crowder’s manager let the world know about his show’s policy.

So am I shocked that Stewart doesn’t see bias when it is there? Nope, actually I’d be shocked if he did.

Is available now in my archive .

If you haven’t gotten your fill of Weiner Jokes now is the time to listen and remember this was recorded before he fessed up.

We also talked a bit about John Jon Stewart and the “conservative blacklist” and were joined by Roxeanne DeLuca and Brian Henchey. If you missed us Saturday here is a 2nd chance.

Tomorrow at 10 a.m. I welcome comedian Steven Crowder to DaTechGuy on DaRadio on WCRN AM 830 out of Worcester Mass.

I have absolutely no idea what we might talk about, There has to be some kind of political story in the news that might work with a political comic scheduled this week?

BTW Steven graciously agreed to be my guest three weeks ago, way before any of the other stuff broke, so this might be more evidence of Robert Stacy McCain’s theory.

Either way join us at 10 a.m. tomorrow, e-mail us at DaRAdio AT Datechguyblog DOT com or tweet us with the hashtag #wcrn or #daradio all during the show.

and of course you can call at 608-438-0965 and listen live at wcrnradio.com

On and hit the tip jar too. It’s been a slow month.

I knew there was a reason I liked this kid so much when I met him:

As a stand-up comedian, I’ve seen hacks openly depict the most depraved, explicit sexual acts they can think of just to get a laugh out of the audience. Clearly, telling wiener jokes is no longer the treading of new territory that it once was.

Funnily enough, today there is one area of sex that when discussed, still makes people’s posteriors pucker with discomfort… abstinence.

Every young woman should remember the line that follows.

Constantly we hear cries of women aimed at their supposedly overly jealous boyfriends, “What’s the matter? Don’t you trust me?”

No, he doesn’t. You slept with him on the first date and there is no reason for him to think that you wouldn’t do the same when a better offer comes along emphasis mine.

I actually had to use a variation of that piece of advice to a young lady years ago who was asking my advice about dating/sleeping with a married man. This kid has learned it in his 20’s. Well done.

…it’s because he agrees with me about “Lady” Gaga:

Lady Gaga is immensely talented. She’s a fantastic pianist, a gifted singer and an engaging performer. But that’s not why the mainstream media gives her so much attention. If she weren’t acting like a dime-store floozie, the alphabet networks would pay her little attention, relegating her to a life of smoky bars and indie record labels instead of sold-out arenas and platinum albums. When it comes to capturing the attention of mainstream media and liberal publications, there is but one simple truth: Perversion Sells.

Let’s emphasize his point with a picture from CPAC:

Like Lady Gaga the young lady in this photo (Jenny Erickson) from smart girl politics is talented at what she does. She manages to juggle interviews, her blog at the candid conservative and a husband and children. Unlike Lady Gaga she manages to be physically attractive just sitting there in this picture without debasing herself.

Lady Gaga will make incredible money from what she does, I presume Jenny and her husband get by. I don’t know her well but I suspect that given the choice between trading bank accounts and lifestyles Jenny will happily stay where she is.

If MSNBC wanted to overtake Cartoon Network in the ratings they would be well advised to offer Jenny a contract. Shana, the nice young lady who paid me one of the greatest complements I’ve ever received should suggest this to Joe Scarborough, maybe have her as a reoccurring guest on Morning Joe. I suspect they likely will not.

The fact is that if Lady Gaga however offered to be an occasional commentator on the show I’m sure the brass would jump at it. There is no question it would draw attention and ratings, particularly if she dresses the part. This is simple truth.

The fact that our culture and our media value a woman like Gaga over a woman like Jenny Erickson says something sad about us.

…in the process of being interviewed. I was going to interview him myself but believe it or not I couldn’t think of what I wanted to ask him. Total brain freeze.

I get the strangest feeling that some of the people who see this photo will not notice that Steven Crowder is in the picture at all for several minutes.

Update: This is my most popular post of the day. I wonder why?

Update 2: The actual interview that this photo is from is here.
