You might have missed these two stories in all the Trump Tweet stuff but you might want to remind yourself what we’re fighting against before you jump off the wagon.

Cause:

Seattle’s minimum-wage law is boosting wages for a range of low-paid workers, but the law is causing those workers as a group to lose hours, and it’s also costing jobs, according to the latest study on the measure passed by the City Council in 2014.

The report, by members of the University of Washington team studying the law’s impacts for the city of Seattle, is being published Monday as a working paper by a nonprofit think tank, the National Bureau of Economic Research.

That law raises Seattle’s minimum wage gradually until it reaches $15 for all by 2021.

Well in the face of that bad news Seattle decided that there could be only one effect

When a University of Washington study came out this week showing Seattle’s minimum wage has cost 5,000 jobs and is hurting low income workers, city leaders attacked the messenger –- a team of respected economists at Washington’s premiere public university.

The researchers, led by Jacob Vigdor, were hired by the city in 2014 to study the effects of Seattle’s $15 wage experiment. The contract called for five years of research. City officials stopped funding the UW team when they didn’t like the results.

“The moment we saw it was based on flawed methodology and was going to be unreliable, the Vigdor study no longer speaks for City Hall,” said Seattle City Councilwoman Kshama Sawant.

So they’ve decided to fund a new study, meet the boss professor Michael Reich:

Reich is currently co-chair of the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment. Before earning his PhD in economics from Harvard, Reich was a founding member of the Union for Radical Political Economics (URPE), a group seeking a “human-centered radical alternative to capitalism,” according to its website.

Reich has authored several studies on the effects of raising the minimum wage. They all concluded that increasing the minimum wage only helps low-skilled workers.

And I’m sure that Professor Reich will dutifully produces numbers that the leftists in Seattle will find acceptable but will not actually change the reality on the ground…

…unexpectedly.

If you are not in the position to kick in we are happy to get your prayers.

If the person involved was a 27 year old Trump supporter named “Bob” CNN would be running the story hourly breathlessly telling you of the police’s discovery of a private arsenal:

Minneapolis police uncovered an arsenal of guns and bomb-making devices during a routine arrest last week.

According to police, a man walked by a parked car in north Minneapolis about 5 p.m. Thursday and confronted the people inside after they threw food wrappers on the ground. They ignored him until he paused to get the car license number. The men then got out of the car and indicated they had guns, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday.

The man flagged down officers, the complaint says, but the men from inside car continued to yell at him and resisted the officers’ attempts to control the situation. The men were insistent they needed to be near the car because a drone was coming to deliver a package, the complaint said. Because of the suspicious circumstances and fear for the man’s safety, the men were placed in the squad while officers searched their car.

Inside, the officers found a hand grenade, handgun, assault rifles and magazines and a large quantity of ammunition, the complaint said. They also found cellphones, computers and electronics equipment, including drone parts.

But because this story  is about a “Minneapolis” man named Abdullah N. Alrifahe you won’t find the story on NBC, CBS, ABC or CNN.  It will be considered a local story not worthy of any attention from the National Press who would much rather report the latest breathless story from from unnamed sources that will supposedly bring down Donald Trump.

Unexpectedly!

I’m sure this story

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick is planning to opt out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, March 9, when the new league year begins. Which teams would have interest in Kaepernick as a starter or backup?

And this one

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick will stand during the national anthem next season, sources told ESPN on Thursday.

Kaepernick no longer wants his method of protest to detract from the positive change that he believes has been created, sources told ESPN. He also believes the amount of national discussion on social inequality — as well as support from other athletes nationwide, including NFL and NBA players — affirmed the message he was trying to deliver.

Are totally and completely unrelated.

After all the idea that Colin Kaepernick’s principles are directly connected to his marketability in a post Hillary world is no more believable than the idea of the media having a primary goal of bringing down the Trump administration.

Who’d buy a story like that?

Update: Allahpundit At Hotair:

This guy must be the only liberal in America who’s less eager to protest now that Trump is in office.

Well NH, you decided that you didn’t want Kelly Ayotte as your senator so you sent governor Maggie Hassan to the US senate and on her first day in the sunlight she manages to beclown herself.

Here is the Daily Caller story:

New Hampshire Sen. Maggie Hassan appeared to be unaware during a Senate confirmation hearing on Tuesday that a Washington Post story about Russian hacking into the Vermont power grid has been completely debunked and retracted.

“Two weeks ago The Washington Post reported that a hacking group connected with the Russian government managed to infiltrate the Burlington Electric power company in Vermont,” Hassan said to retired Marine Gen. John Kelley during his confirmation hearing to head the Department of Homeland Security.

Hassan, who took office this month after serving as governor of New Hampshire, showed no indication during the questioning that she was aware that The Post’s story has been found to be “fake news.”

The retractions on that story were rather epic and it’s quite an embarrassment for Senator Hassan and her staff.

Then again did anyone familiar with Senator Hassan’s record as NH governor or her campaign against Senator Ayotte really expect her to know or care about the difference between the truth and falsehood?

In the Bill James Baseball abstract he tell the story of a young pitcher who claimed he could strike out Ty Cobb any time any where on three pitches and told the manager of Detroit that it would only cost train fare to see him do it.

Figuring you never know the manager sent the fare and the kid got on the mound and pitched to Cobb. Cobb murdered every single pitch the kid threw and suggested to the manager that they keep the kid around to help keep him in a groove.

That’s what I thought of when I saw this at Glenn Reynolds site today

Hey maybe if Simon and Schuster can get Jack and the staff of the Chicago Review of Books to ban and boycott more of their authors their stock prices will go through the roof.

edwards-money pj mediaFor years whenever conservatives referred to the Clinton Foundation as a money mill we were derided by both Clinton’s defenders and the press that assured us that regardless of the number of flights, five star hotels, expensive meals and booze that the Clinton Foundation covered for Bill, Hillary & Company, it was all about good works and that’s all there is too it.

That being the case I find this news from Australia rather odd:

AUSTRALIA has finally ceased pouring millions of dollars into accounts linked to Hillary Clinton’s charities.

What that can’t be right

The federal government confirmed to news.com.au it has not renewed any of its partnerships with the scandal-plagued Clinton Foundation, effectively ending 10 years of taxpayer-funded contributions worth more than $88 million.

But this doesn’t make any sense. We were assured that the Clinton Foundation was doing good works all over the world, are we to believe that the good works that Australia believed was worth an 88 Million dollar investment just ceased or that Australia has decided that their works are good enough any more?

Why anyone would think that the contributions from Australia over the last 10 years were all about currying favor with a Sitting Senator, Sitting Secretary of State, Democrat Nominee and expected president rather than helping others.

Anyone want to bet me a five spot that the Australians won’t be the last big donor to decide to without the greens that the Clinton cash Cow lived on for years?

Update: That didn’t take long:

As the Norwegian newspaper Hegnar points out, Norway is expected to slash their contributions to the Clinton Foundation by 87% now that Hillary has lost the presidency. After contributing roughly $5mm per year to the Clinton Foundation between 2007 – 2013, the Norwegian government decided to boost their donations to ~$15mm and ~$21mm in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Ironically, that boost in contributions corresponded with Hillary’s decision to run for President in 2016…but we’re sure it’s just a coincidence. That said, it is fairly interesting that, since Hillary’s loss, Norway has decided to scale back their contributions by 87% in 2017…hmmm.

I guess that’s better than Australia which went to zero but I’m wondering what Norway’s explanation is? Does the Clinton Foundation do 87% less good than it did before?

Yesterday we discovered that while the NYT is all in favor of amnesty for those who enter places illegally they apparently draw the line if they are illegally present where they don’t want them.

New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof fought with and restrained an intruder he found in his Philadelphia hotel room.

In fact not content to eject the illegal occupier he turn said illegal resident into law enforcement.

A police spokesman confirmed the account, saying the columnist “chased him, struggled with him and held him until officers arrived.” The suspect is in custody awaiting charges.

This seems odd to me, Philadelphia is a Sanctuary City therefore if a person is illegally present somewhere the proper thing to do, particularly if you are a member of the NYT is, regardless of the law, to recognize said persons right to be where they are. Any other action is clearly racist.

Thus the police should have informed Mr. Kristof that no person is illegal and that his attempts to punish that person for being someplace illegally, rather than insisting he get amnesty for his crime, smacked of white privilege no matter what the law says.

That they did not leads one to suspect that the for members of the left, the tolerance for the ignoring of the law ends when their inconvenience or danger begins

We interupt my coverage of Amplify Choice and RedState to talk about a pet peeve. And remember Peeves make wonderful pets

One of the things you notice about Denver right away is all of the building going on. Housing prices are up and the city is making hotels the way the Duggars make babies. Given it’s size and location Denver is becoming magnet of tourism and one of the highlights of our visit was the Denver Zoo.

It’s a great destination which was very plain as DaWife and I walked by the parking areas I saw licence plates from California to North Dakota and of course there were likely plenty of people like us who had come by air and caught the Zoo in between the scheduled events that brought us here.

And that’s why when I saw this sign in the rain forest exhibit I found myself laughing out loud

For those of you who can’t read the print here is what it says:

Like a greenhouse, gases in our atmosphere capture the Sun’s energy and warm the Earth. We’ve increased greenhouse gasses, in part by burning fossil fuels and destroying forests. Many scientists believe the result will be global warming

With just a slightly warmer climate, ice aps may melt and drown coastal areas Rainfall patters could shift turning farmlands into deserts or floodplains

What can you do to help?

The United State’s is the world’s single largest producer of greenhouse gases. Conservation begins at home.

Walk, bike or carpool or take a bus whenever possible to reduce the greenhouse gases produced by automobiles.

When you buy your next car place fuel efficiency at the top f your list of options.  Keep your car tuned.

Contact your local gas and electric company for tip on how to make your home and office more energy efficient.

Now in terms of global warming alarmism this sign is actually pretty tame, there is a lot of the use of the word “may” rather than “will”, you don’t see the BS 95% of scientists agree line.  I suspect this is to help keep the return business of those like me who show up.

But if you look at the “What can I Do to Help?” list, it struck me that several items missing that came to mind at once, to wit:

There were a lot of people at the zoo with cell phones and mp3 players, and I couldn’t count the number of people with earbuds listening to said devices.  All those devices need a steady stream of electricity which require a lot of greenhouse gases to produce.

They could have advised guests to not use these devices and not buy new ones. Yes, these devices are entertaining and provide communications and convenience, but what is that next the danger of turning farmlands into floodplains?

And of course there we’re plenty of people taking pictures both with their phone and with iPads, and Cameras.  May of these pictures will end up on facebook, Instagram, twitter and various web pages like this one and will be shared worldwide in the cloud.  All of these take a lot of greenhouse gas producing electricity  and that doesn’t even begin to talk about the immense amount of electricity the servers that host all of this stuff uses.

They could have advised their guest to get off of the net and not take pictures to share.  Yes the animals are delightful and would bring the zoo plenty of exposure but after all what is use of pictures like this

Within scent range of the leopards nearby
Within scent range of the leopards nearby

or this

The latest photo in the Colorado Rockies "player or primate" series
The latest photo in the Colorado Rockies “player or primate” series

…if it means Rainfall patters might shift?

There were a lot of manufactured toys and stuffed animals in the place for sale.  They were cute, they were cuddly and were prominently displayed for sale to all the wide eyed kids who came through the doors with their parents. All of them were only available at the zoo because of manufacturing and shipping that required the creation of an enormous amount of greenhouse gases.

They could have advised the kids and their parents to do without the toys, after all a lot of them were pretty expensive and the kids likely had others at home.  Yes they were cute and cuddly and the sales provide a lot of revenue for the zoo, but what is that next to the danger of ice caps melting and drowning coastal areas?

Finally as I noted at the start, the parking lot was full of cars from all over the nation.  All those cars, no matter how well tuned or fuel efficient burn gasoline.  Furthermore Denver is a tourist destination with so many people flying in that they can’t build hotels fast enough to accommodate all the conventions not to mention the skiers in the winter. And according to the David Suzuki foundation aviation accounts for four to nine per cent of the total climate change impact of human activity.”

That means that the very act of coming Denver in General and to the zoo in particular by air or car involves burning fossil fuels and destroying forests at an alarming rate! The very act that they are warning against.

So in the spirit of helping to promote the cause of conservation and saving the planet might I suggest the Denver Zoo remake that sign replacing the last three sentences of that sign with the following:

GO AWAY AND NEVER COME BACK!

Yes I know that it would mean laying off a lot of people and hoping people would pay to visit an online streaming site if they aren’t Denver natives but we’re got a planet to save, don’t we?

There is a lot of fuss about the “Historic” nature of Hillary Clinton’s nomination by the Democrats but I’ve not been one of them for a couple of reasons.

Either years ago when everyone saw “history” being made, I saw the raising of a corrupt chicago machine pol to the highest office in the land as was the recipe for disaster.

Likewise where people again see “history” I see the raising of a corrupt political insider whose basis for power was hitching herself to a man with great political skills which he used to feed his even more voracious sexual appetites by any means necessary, and sticking with him come hell or high water till she can ride his coattails to power. I don’t see something to celebrate.

However for those looking for an actual sign of history in the nomination of Hillary Clinton and proof that it was important for the cause of equal treatment for the sexes (as opposed to the Andrea Dworkin version of it) in this subheadline at the Wall Street Journal

Hillary Clinton’s Historic Moment Divides Generations of Women
Presidential candidacy reflects hard-fought gains in gender equality so widespread that some women see little urgency in crashing another barrier

and this quote repeated by the Daily Caller

“It never occurred to me that a woman couldn’t be president. I don’t feel like I have to vote for a woman just because she’s a woman,” Susan Willes, a 53-year-old Democrat who is undecided, told The WSJ.

While people may not realize it, that is the sign of incredible progress.

The greatest sign of inequality before within culture is urgency.  The whole idea that “We can never be a part of the culture until X happens to prove we belong.”

But the concept of the equality of the value of women and men in the workforce has so become the norm that women do not see the urgency of electing Hillary Clinton to change the culture and instead can judge her on her own merits.

And while that last paragraph strikes unmitigated fear in the hearts of Democrats it’s a sign that women have actually reached cultural equality in the workforce.

And hopefully they’ll prove it by rejecting Hillary Clinton as the abysmal failure she is.

Tangeltal musing:  This incidentally is why Christianity was so radical when it appeared on the scene.  The idea that all regardless of sex or position were equal before God was paradigm shifting, which is why is was and still is, so violently opposed.  And it was that concept that lead to the ideal of equality before the law.

So when they had assembled, Pilate said to them,

“Which one do you want me to release to you, (Jesus) Barabbas, or Jesus called Messiah?”

For he knew that it was out of envy that they had handed him over.  While he was still seated on the bench, his wife sent him a message, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man. I suffered much in a dream today because of him.”  The chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas but to destroy Jesus.

The governor said to them in reply, “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” They answered, “Barabbas!”  Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus called Messiah?” They all said, “Let him be crucified!”

Matthew 27:17-22

If there is one thing that Stacy McCain knows it’s crazy and when looking at the Baton Rouge shooter that’s what he sees.

Besides which, I am a well-known expert in craziness. I’ve been studying kooks for years, and when I say somebody’s crazy? Trust me.

Gavin Eugene Long was deranged, daft, demented, cracked, zany, wacko, bonkers, off his rocker and a few fries short of a Happy Meal:

Now as he points out “crazy” and “racist” are no more mutually exclusive than “sane” and “racist” nor does a his craziness make those who encouraged or affirmed his racist opinions as he put it:

This kind of kook cult conspiracy stuff is always floating around out there. You’ve got white people who are into weird pagan sex cults, feminists who are into astrology, tarot, “goddess spirituality,” et cetera.

Was it entirely coincidental that a crazy kook cultist like Gavin Long was inspired to drive to Louisiana and shoot cops? No, because the “Black Lives Matter” movement appeals to the same kind of Afrocentric racial insanity that led Gavin long to rename himself “Cosmo Setepenra.”

This is the problem with media coverage that deliberately feeds into racial paranoia in the black community,

Now when it comes down to it, everybody has their own issues and if this guy had just remained a crazy black nationalist racist with a chip on his shoulder that would be fine, it would be on him and several police would still be alive today.

Instead radical groups of the left, with a big assist from both the Media and the White House decided to play into that crazy for their own political ends.

That’s why to Twitter, a guy like Robert Stacy McCain who owns more books written by radical feminists on feminism than most Woman’s studies majors and has read more of them than professors of woman’s studies professors can be banned from Twitter for quoting those feminists and others public statements while a guy like Gavin Eugene Long was considered just fine, until he started gunning down cops

The Jewish elders pushed the crowd to call for Barabbas for political reasons, the twitter Safety crowd called for Gavin Eugene Long in the same way because that choice affirmed their prejudices and didn’t dump him until it was inconvenient.

Unexpectedly

Exit question:  How many other Gavin Eugene Longs are now on twitter cheering the murder of police while Stacy McCain remains banned?  Anyone Bueller?  BUELLER?
