President Trump swore into office six months ago, and his foreign policy has been interesting to watch, since he:

  • Started with solid Secretarys of State and Defense
  • Didn’t have an immediate 9/11 event to respond to
  • Has had a chance to travel and negotiate high level deals

The past six months have shown he has a fairly regular negotiating style:

  • He walks into every deal saying “I’m going to change this deal”
  • He makes an initial offer
  • He changes the deal in some way, although it might be more symbolic than actual

So how has he done so far?

Millenials seem to leak like a cheap diaper. Manning, Winner, Snowden are only the latest in  a line of people that think it’s OK to send whatever information they want to the press. I recently received a personal-for message (sometimes called a P4) expressing dismay at people who were leaking information about the investigation into the USS FITZGERALD collision. While looking for answers as to why someone would do this, I stumbled on this quote:

“In 2016, Gallup found adults under 29 least likely to say they were “extremely proud” to be American, with just over a third agreeing. If managers in the national security industry think they can count on patriotism to dissuade potential leakers, they are mistaken.”

The Early Election in England backfired on Theresa May in a big way.

There has been a lot of speculation as to why this is the case, but I think it comes down to one simple thing.

People don’t like their kids blown up or their fellows stabbed when out on the town. Furthermore they really don’t like paying to support the people who do it nor encourage it done.

In fact the only reason why Theresa May’s program of protecting people from Pam Geller and Robert Spencer on the grounds that their warning about those trying to kill them will provide an excuse for people to kill them vs protecting them from those who never needed an excuse to kill them didn’t lead to a Labor’s majority is that Labor is even less likely to do the job then she is.

Update: Today’s British leadership in two tweets

One of the thing that can be taken as one of the basic facts of life is that if there are no consequence for an action it will continue.

This is the basis of most law, it’s very hard, if not impossible to change people actual feelings or beliefs about certain things, so if you want to discourage an activity create a severe penalty for it, or tax it or create regulations so onerous that most people are unwilling to jump through the hoops to do said activity.

There are times when such incentives are used for good, the most effective example of this  in history is, in my opinion, General Napier in India  whose response to Indians insisting on the right of Suttee (or Sati) is one I never tire of quoting:

“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”

And with that incentive system in place the ritual of throwing widows on their husbands funeral pyre alive ended in India.

Of course there are less noble examples of this such as the modern jihad by the left against believing Christian bakers and farmers or the tax incentives on so called “green” energy whereby huge tax incentives are given to prop up an industry and enrich it’s proponents that would fail otherwise.

But regardless of the motive, such incentives, toward action or inaction, tend to work.

Which brings me to the point I made yesterday concerning so called “moderate” Muslims concerning incentives:

If you want to get the average unassimilated Muslim to take the risk necessary to stop terrorists within their community, they have to be less afraid of what their fellows will do if they talk then they are of what we will do if they remain silent.

Or to put it another way, if you are England and  want so called “Moderate” Muslims to warn authorities about potential terrorists in their community you are going to have to provide a incentive for them to do so:

My suggestion?  The “Silence Will Cost You” Act.

I suggest Britain pass a law saying that if a person becomes aware of any attempt to radicalize and recruit members of the public for the purpose of committing acts of terror, and fails to inform the proper authorities (police) they are subject to the following penalties

If said person is foreign born and does not hold British citizenship said person is subject is upon conviction, subject to deportation to their country of origin and ineligible to return.

If said person is holds British Citizenship they will be, upon conviction,  permanently ineligible for any and all public benefits paid for by taxpayer funds including housing, financial benefits, medical benefits.

I would further suggest that the law shall be suspended at the end of any Ten year period where there is no Terror attack on British soil.

Suddenly those who have been silent out of either fear or sympathy have a powerful incentive to change their behavior.  Furthermore by including the sunset provision based keeping the enemy from successfully striking the county it’s made clear that this measure is an emergency measure all about stopping terror attacks that will end as soon as it’s clear the threat to the country is over.

This is the single easiest way for England to solve the problem, the question is, do they have the stomach to pass such a law and the bravery to endure the wrath of social justice warriors of the left who would be more offended by such a law then the sight of men woman and children slaughtered in the streets.

So England, are you serious or are you not?

Doctor Who: The Face of Evil 1977

The cycle has begun again, a bunch of Islamists slaughter a bunch of Brits and even as the blood is still flowing the media lashes out, not at those who are killing the innocent, but at those who would unapologetically name those who kill them while insisting that we must take into account the feelings of Muslims who had nothing to do with the carnage.

The most frustrating thing about the situation is it doesn’t seem to matter how many times a Pam Geller, or a Robert Spencer warn people about what’s happening, it doesn’t matter how many attacks from all over the world are listed by the Religion of Peace website (all documented) the greater public simply refuses to acknowledge the reality.

Furthermore the real problem in a sense is the so called “moderate” followers of Islam which supposedly outnumber the radicals by far, yet somehow they never seem inclined to purge this cancer from their religion or restrain their fellows. Furthermore they are not forthcoming concerning their fellows and terror, indeed there have been reports of people being advised not to corporate with the FBI and police investigating radicals within their midst.

Perhaps it’s a lost cause, but let me try one more time to explain the situation in a way our liberal friends might understand.

Moderate Muslims are the German baker in the 9th episode of Band of Brothers.

Let me set up the clip. A patrol from easy company is going through the woods the scene suddenly changes to Sgt. Perconte running into town has come across their first death camp.

Perconte: Major Wintes, sir…We found something out on patrol and…We came across this–
Major Winters: What? What? Frank? Frank what is it?
Perconte: I don’t know sir

They come to the camp, shocked what they see and when they question prisoners in the camp they discover what it’s about:

Joseph Liebgott: He says it’s a work camp for…”Unerwuenschter.” I’m not sure what the word means, sir. Uh, “unwanted,” “disliked,” maybe?
Cpt. Nixon: “Criminals?”
Joseph Liebgott: I don’t think “criminals,” sir. Verbrecher?
Camp prisoner: Verbrecher? Nein, nein.
Joseph Liebgott: No.
Camp prisoner: Ärzte, Musiker, Beamter, Bauern…
Joseph Liebgott: Doctors, musicians…
Camp prisoner: Schreiber, Schneider, Intellektuelle…
Joseph Liebgott: Tailors, clerks, farmers, intellectuals. I mean, normal people.
Camp prisoner: Juden. Juden. Juden.
Joseph Liebgott: [softly] They’re Jews.
Camp prisoner: Pole, Ziegeuner.
Joseph Liebgott: Poles and Gypsies.

The people in the camp are starving so the troops immediately head into town and start grabbing all the food they can carry and that is where we see the German Baker who is outraged that all of his wares that he worked so hard to bake are being taken but Pvt Webster is having none of it. Here is the text of their exchange:

David Webster: Shut up! I said, shut up, you Nazi fuck! [grabs baker]
German Baker: Ich-ich bin kein Nazi! (I’m not a Nazi)
David Webster: Oh, you’re not a Nazi? My mistake, you fat fucking prick. What about a human being? Are you one of those, or are you going to tell me that you never smelt the fucking stench? [of the nearby concentration camp]
German Baker: Toten sie mich nicht! Bitte toten sie mich nicht! (“Don’t kill me! Please don’t kill me!”)   Ich verstehe nicht was du da sagst! (I do not understand what you say)
Pvt. Joseph Lesniewski: Leave him alone, Web. He says he doesn’t know what the hell you’re talking about.
David Webster: Bullshit.

Naturally we as Americans are with Webster here and have nothing but disgust for the German Baker, but just for a moment consider the situation the Baker was in.

He is a German, living in a city of Germans, in a culture that has completely embraced the values of Nazism. We don’t know what he actually thinks about any of this stuff, so let’s ask the one basic question obvious question:

Even if the Baker had a moral objection to what was going on, was there any way, said Baker could, act on that objection to the what was being done at the camp without ending up either dead or in the camp himself?

Short answer: There isn’t!

There is a reason why we celebrate those who resisted the Nazi’s because it took a huge amount of moral courage to take a step the could die or (and many did). That kind of courage is not the norm, it’s the exception.

And that brings us to our “moderate Muslims” in the west and elsewhere.

The vast majority of said Muslims, particularly in Europe may be in the west, but have not assimilated. They remain within their enclaves, within a culture that still embraces Sharia, in which the values of radical Islam are openly expressed (in languages other than English of course) furthermore large portions of their families still live in the Arab world.

What happens if such a person sees some within that community preaching or embracing jihad and decide to talk?

Will such a person be rejected by their community, their family both here or in the old country? Will their family either at home or in the old country be subject to retaliation for talking? Will they fear for their lives? After all right now life is cheap in Libya, or Syria, or Iraq or elsewhere in the Arab world.

And if this is a risk in the west, multiply that risk by 100 back in the Arab world when something like the attacks on Coptic Christians in Egypt.

That’s the reality, we aren’t counting on the average Muslim to help us stop terror, we are counting on Muslims immersed in a different cultural norm to not only have our moral norm, but have the courage to act on those norms in the face of extraordinary risk.

For all the increased policing, better security or improved surveillance that’s the bottom line. Unless we consider one other thing about that German Baker.

He was ready to deny the Nazi’s when he was more afraid of the Americans than he was of his fellow Germans.

If you want to get the average unassimilated Muslim to take the risk necessary to stop terrorists within their community, they have to be less afraid of what their fellows will do if they talk then they are of what we will do if they remain silent.

Here is some advice that has been given/retweeted by London Police during this terror attack that I suspect was not given by Winston during the war against the Nazis

I’m too disgusted for words

If the person involved was a 27 year old Trump supporter named “Bob” CNN would be running the story hourly breathlessly telling you of the police’s discovery of a private arsenal:

Minneapolis police uncovered an arsenal of guns and bomb-making devices during a routine arrest last week.

According to police, a man walked by a parked car in north Minneapolis about 5 p.m. Thursday and confronted the people inside after they threw food wrappers on the ground. They ignored him until he paused to get the car license number. The men then got out of the car and indicated they had guns, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday.

The man flagged down officers, the complaint says, but the men from inside car continued to yell at him and resisted the officers’ attempts to control the situation. The men were insistent they needed to be near the car because a drone was coming to deliver a package, the complaint said. Because of the suspicious circumstances and fear for the man’s safety, the men were placed in the squad while officers searched their car.

Inside, the officers found a hand grenade, handgun, assault rifles and magazines and a large quantity of ammunition, the complaint said. They also found cellphones, computers and electronics equipment, including drone parts.

But because this story  is about a “Minneapolis” man named Abdullah N. Alrifahe you won’t find the story on NBC, CBS, ABC or CNN.  It will be considered a local story not worthy of any attention from the National Press who would much rather report the latest breathless story from from unnamed sources that will supposedly bring down Donald Trump.

Unexpectedly!

Never Forget. That’s what we said after the islamic terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, but many barely remember anymore, to our great disgrace. That was the second time the Twin Towers in Manhattan were attacked, but it seems the world was eager to forget the first World Trade Center bombing, which happened on February 26, 1993 – twenty-four years ago this Sunday.

St. Peter’s Church is near the World Trade Center; here is what they have to say about that day:

February 26, 1993, a truck loaded with bombs, parked in a public garage below the North Tower of the World Trade Center and exploded.  Terrorists set of the powerful homemade bomb by way of a twenty-foot fuse.  The blast killed six innocent civilians.  The bomb was powerful enough to create a 200 by 100 foot hole in the building.  Approximately a thousand office workers suffered smoke inhalation injuries.  One hundred and twenty four of those injured were rescue personnel.  Seventeen kindergarteners were trapped when the electrical power line was knocked out and one woman in labor was airlifted out of the area to a hospital.

The terrorists intended for the North Tower to come crashing down and topple the South Tower. Seven men have been convicted for their role in the attack but only six have been caught.

Many have forgotten the first truck bombing of the World Trade Center in the wake of 9/11.  A son of a victim in the attacks, Stephen Knapp Jr., is quoted in the New York Times:  “It started on Feb. 26, it played out on 9/11, and it is still going on now.”

Our Parish has not forgotten.  Every February, the families and friends of people who died and those who were injured, hold a memorial Mass at St. Peter’s Church.

The person credited as being the mastermind behind this evil act of islamic jihad, the so called “blind sheikh”, Omar Abdel-Rahman, died this past Saturday in prison, but he was treated to a grand funeral that was attended by thousands of admirers in Egypt:

He was convicted in the World Trade Center bombing—as well as plotting a wider “war of urban terrorism”—in 1995. His death was met with statements of mourning from al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood. Meanwhile, his hometown was filled with chants of “we will defend you with blood and soul, Islam” for his funeral. “If he were a bad man, people from all over the country wouldn’t have came to attend his funeral,” said a lawyer who traveled more than 100 miles to be there.     MORE

Here  is some more information about the attack, via History.com:

In September 1992 explosives expert Ramzi Ahmed Yousef arrived in New York City on a flight from Pakistan and began planning an attack on the World Trade Center, with the alleged goal of toppling the north tower into the south tower. He received help from followers of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, a blind, Egyptian-born Muslim cleric who spoke in sermons of destroying the “edifices of capitalism.” The plotters rented a storage locker in New Jersey, where they stockpiled urea, nitric acid, sulfuric acid and other ingredients for making bombs. They simultaneously concocted a nitroglycerin trigger at a nearby apartment and scouted out the World Trade Center’s underground floors.

On February 26, 1993, the plotters loaded their homemade bomb, which weighed about 1,200 pounds, into a yellow Ford Econoline van they had rented from a Ryder dealership in New Jersey. Two of them then drove it across the Hudson River into Manhattan, made their way south to the World Trade Center, entered the basement parking garage between the north tower and a hotel, parked in an illegal spot on a ramp, lit four 20-foot fuses, got into a car that had trailed them and sped off.

At 12:17 p.m. the bomb exploded, knocking out the World Trade Center’s sprinklers, generators, elevators, public address system, emergency command center and more than half of the high-voltage lines that fed electricity to the complex. The FBI later called it the “largest by weight and by damage of any improvised explosive device that we’ve seen since the inception of forensic explosive identification.” Six people died, including a pregnant woman. More than 1,000 others were injured, mostly from smoke that snaked its way up the stairwells and elevator shafts. Yet both towers remained standing.

As rescue workers dug for victims, survivors began making their way out by any means possible. A woman in a wheelchair was carried down 66 flights of stairs by two friends. A class of singing kindergartners descended from the 107th floor. A group of engineers stuck in an elevator pried open the doors and then used car keys to cut a hole in the sheetrock walls leading out to a 58th-floor women’s bathroom. Nearly 30 people with medical conditions were taken to the roof and whisked away by police helicopter. By late that night, the buildings had been completely cleared. They would not reopen for nearly a month.

Investigators sifting through the rubble soon came across the vehicle identification number for the rental van, which had been reported stolen the day before the attack. FBI agents then arrested Mohammad Salameh, who had rented the van under his own name, when he returned to the Ryder dealership to ask for his $400 deposit back. Subsequent arrests were made of Ahmad Ajaj, Nidal Ayyad and Mahmoud Abouhalima. In March 1994 a federal jury convicted the four of them for their role in the bombing, and they were each sentenced to life behind bars.

Meanwhile, authorities uncovered a related plot in which followers of Sheikh Abdel Rahman planned to blow up the George Washington Bridge, the United Nations headquarters and other New York City landmarks. In that case, the sheikh and nine co-defendants were found guilty of seditious conspiracy and other terrorism-related charges. A third case led to life sentences for Yousef, who was captured in Pakistan in 1995, and the driver of the rental van, who was captured in Jordan that same year. Only one suspect, who fled to Iraq after being questioned and released by the FBI, remains at large.

Heckuva guy, that Rahman, huh? This is who they celebrate, as our own murdered dead are largely forgotten by our country.

This Sunday, please remember: John DiGiovanni, Robert Kirkpatrick, Stephen A. Knapp, William Macko, Wilfredo Mercado, and, Monica Rodriguez Smith and her unborn child. Please remember their families, and remember all who were wounded that day as well. Please pray for an end to islamic terrorism.

The Three Stooges: Slippery Silks 1936

All the talk Thursday night was about the unanimous ruling of the 9th circuit concerning President Trump’s Temporary Travel ban from seven countries named by the Obama administration as potential Terror problems.

President Trump came in with a tough playing field in hand and took quick action and when the 9th circuit made its ruling the president tweeted this out:

As the media, Democrats, liberals in Hollywood  amazon and others are busy high fiving themselves they don’t seem to have realized the impossible position they’ve put themselves in and the frankly no lose position they’ve put the Trump Administration in concerning the war on  terror, at least politically.

If the administration is able to keep the country safe and prevent attacks, they will naturally get the credit for it and Trump’s tough talks only reinforces that he is taking steps, even against opposition, to do so. There is likely little the left could do about that.

However if the administration foils any Terror plot and even a single one of those plotters is a muslim immigrant who was either

Previously vetted by the previous admin
From one of the named countries in the current POTUS’ executive order
Was in contact with terrorists from one of the named countries

The administration can trot this out not only as proof the ban but can even suggest that said plot only reached whatever stage it was at BECAUSE of the lack of a ban and can point an accusing finger at the left if they do so.

That’s bad enough but if there is a successful attack of any type involving any persons with any or all of the attributes I’ve already listed the problem for the left is even worse, particularly given this news:

A staggering 77 percent of the 1,100 refugees let in since Judge James L. Robart’s Feb. 3 order have been from the seven suspect countries. Nearly a third are from Syria alone

If the travel ban had been in place or if it had run its course the left could have proclaimed it ineffective, now thanks to the court and their own high level efforts that situation is completely reversed.

This president will IMMEDIATELY point at the Democrats and the left opposition to his travel ban and extreme vetting as the cause for said successful attack (and don’t think for a moment he won’t do this, we aren’t talking George Bush, this is Donald Trump).

He will fix not only fix the blame firmly there but will be able to point to his tweet of Friday to showcase the fact that he feared this might happen. And he will invariably get that tweeted out before anyone of the left is able to mount any defense.

Furthermore given that the media’s trust ratings are further below sea level than the dead sea, attempts to counter such a move are likely to fail with all but your most partisan allies.

Congratulations Democrats, liberals, media, you have by your political efforts and your court filings successfully not only reinforced in the public’s mind Trump anti-terror efforts, guaranteeing him credit for any successful defense but you managed to at the same time transfer the political responsibility for any successful terror attack in the foreseeable future from this administration to yourselves. In fact you didn’t just transfer it, you went out and seized it.

I often say the right thing is usually the smart thing, often the wrong thing is often the dumb thing. The left’s move was not only wrong as it makes America less safe, it was VERY stupid setting yourself up as targets both actual and political.

It was something I didn’t think you would be stupid enough to do…but you were!

Closing thought. If Amazon is taking a victory lap how long do you think it will take any terror victims to use that fact to sue them for a small fortune for enabling such an attack?

Update: The Conservative Treehouse gets it:

If President Trump does nothing, the underlying challenges to the Executive Order continue forward in the courts, while he gets his SCOTUS pick -Gorsuch- on the bench. If he so chooses, the DOJ can eventually bring the case to the Supreme Court, where almost everyone admits the Ninth Circuit and Judge Robarts decision will be overturned and all of the protestation from the left will have been for naught.

In the interim of the slow case proceeding, ANY instance of violence and terrorism provides President Trump the opportunity to use his bully pulpit -and Twitter- to hang the occurrence, foreign or domestic, like a millstone around the neck of Democrats up for elected office in 2018.

There is no downside on the domestic security agenda for President Trump; however, the Democrats are fraught with fear that something might just happen. Ultimately, THIS, the politics behind the entire construct, is the reason for the ninth circuit tonight asking for an en banc hearing of their own judicial ruling.

What you haven’t heard that the 9th circuit has apparently decided to appeal the ruling of it’s own 3 judge panel to itself?

Maybe it’s just me but I’ve never heard of a judicial circuit appealing it’s own ruling to itself

Like the NK Guerilla quoted in the MASH episode above, the followers of Isis and Radical Islamists consider all you liberal anti-Trump folks just as much an infidel as they do a Conservative Catholic Trump voter like me.

Furthermore given the chance to kill you as an individual, enslave you for sex as they do the Yadzi woman, or launch either a small scale or large scale attack on the people of San Francisco they would not only one do so but consider a successful attack against the city and it’s people killing dozens or thousands a great triumph even if every single one of the dead marched against Milo or had a #resistance hashtag on their twitter account.

That is all.
