The Black Bill Clinton sans facts UPDATE Accuser via Lawyer: no value" in discussing matter

It has now been a full 5 days where the media has immersed itself in a fanatical feeding frenzy concerning Herman Cain. This allows us to judge with a more practiced eye the effect this “scandal” has had upon him.

Some very credible blog voices on the right, (that I’ve already linked to) are certainly not satisfied have declined to run to the barricades (“show me the CarFax”) before siding with Cain but bloggers and media aside the real test is what the GOP voters think.

We’ve already seen a partial answer with the Cain Money bomb already 20% toward its goal, and now we have polling that has come out AFTER the break of the “scandal

Businessman Herman Cain and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney are running nearly even atop the field of 2012 GOP presidential hopefuls, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows, with most Republicans dismissing the harassment allegations that over the past week have roiled Cain’s campaign.

This despite a relentless attack by a media who would frankly love to bring Cain down because:

1. It hurts their chosen candidate

2. No matter what else there is no question that Cain is a conservative

3. He is a serious threat to give black voters, already upset with Obama, to vote for the GOP ticket

4. They consider him their intellectual inferior

The contrast to the press on the Clinton story is astounding. The MSM has to be dragged screaming and kicking to the story and when covering it did their best to defend a president who they still idolize and celebrate.

In this case the media is trying to drag the public to this scandal but the media has forgotten something critical. The MSM, CNN, NBC, MSNBC, ABC, CBS etc etc etc base audience not only doesn’t include the GOP base which distrusts and despises them, or as Stacy McCain put it:

Republicans are extending their middle fingers to the media and saying: “You don’t get to choose our nominee for us.”

and even worse republicans who don’t support Cain are saying stuff like this:

Politico has now framed discovery of the identity of the source as is a noteworthy story. Yet, Politico knows that if the identity of the source is a story, it is only because Politico itself is being coy. Politico has reported that Perry may be the source and that Romney may be the source. Yet, Politico knows precisely whether the Perry campaign or the Romney campaign (or both … or neither) is the source. It is thus almost certainly true that at least some of the conflicting allegations Politico is airing are known by Politico to be false. In fact, both the Perry and Romney camps have denied involvement — if it so happens that one of those camps is the source, then Politico knows the denial is a lie, yet it published the denial anyway. That would amount to colluding with its source in order to tarnish Cain while fraudulently portraying its source as above the fray.

In sum, Politico is publishing at least some things it knows to be misleading or untrue, and framing as a great mystery something to which it knows the answer. That can only be because Politico finds the specter of the Republican circular firing squad more appealing than the prospect of informing readers of the accurate version of events.

And even bits that made it to the conservative press has results like Cainaquiddick: Where Source-Based Journalism Goes to Die

Remember the initial story caused Cain to rise in my own Herman Cain vs Rick Santorum derby (With Newt coming up on the outside) how do you think the GOP voting base that already despises them and distrusts Mitt Romney.

I think we have to start to conclude that this has been a big plus for Herman Cain for several reasons:

1. It endears him to the base

2. It has enhanced his fundraising

3. The constant unending coverage blocks out every other GOP candidate’s attempt to get attention.

4. It has caused some of the brightest and most popular members of conservative media to come out swinging for days.

and most importantly

5. It has tested the Cain Campaign early at a time when he actually needs to be tested. Even a poor job handling this provides vital experience for the next political crisis that comes a vital skill for any potential pol

And his fans is learning:

From a conservative standpoint the unmasking of the MSM as a toothless tiger unable to stop Cain is nearly as appealing as the press’ new found problem when bringing up the Clintons but it is to Clinton that this must be compared, no matter how bad the Clinton Scandal got, the press stood behind him and he not only finished his presidency but even now is sought after and adored by the MSM.

In that respect Herman Cain has become Bill Clinton, only without actual evidence of wrongdoing. No matter what the press decides to throw he is coming up on top.

Yet all is not lost for the MSM, while they are failing miserably to bring down Cain, thanks to their scandal coverage it allowing them to ignore any number of stories that are massively damaging

And Stacy McCain has this to say:

It is absolutely impermissible for a leading candidate for the presidency to be publicly accused of sexual misconduct by anonymous accusers. We have been told that the women themselves did not push this story to the press, and they would have preferred that the matter remain confidential. But now that the accusation is public, how can the accusers remain anonymous?

And to hell with a confidentiality agreement at this point. Anyone who thinks it possible to enforce a confidentiality agreement now, when descriptions of these cases have already become front-page news everywhere, needs to wake up to reality.

If you believe Herman Cain’s denial of these accusations, you should demand nothing less than complete disclosure of the entire story, in confidence that he will be vindicated.

I agree with that statement.

I can’t see how Cain doesn’t win at this point. Not only does this suggest this is all over but he wins BIG. The MSM has thrown all they have at him and it’s failed.

Update 2: Stacy and Smitty react as does the Cain Campaign.

Yet, Politico knows precisely whether the Perry campaign or the Romney campaign (or both . . . or neither) is the source.
