There seems to be some surprise that Joe Biden has very little to say on the campaign trail where he holds a considerable lead on every single other Democrat candidate:
here’s former vice president Joe Biden’s agenda for the holiday weekend, according to his campaign: “Joe Biden has no public events scheduled.”
Those seven words are becoming familiar for the Biden team. Aside from a campaign swing right after announcing his candidacy, Biden has kept his head down while his rivals rush from state to state to state.
Most of the rest of the Democrat field have limited name recognition outside of their own states or districts that are pretty much based on cable / news shows that most non-activists ignore.
Moreover for most of the huge “progressive” Democrat field it’s not Biden that is their target, it’s Bernie. The goal is to out socialist the old socialist.
It’s also complicated to hit Joe Biden. He was Barack Obama’s vice president and to hit Biden is to some degree to hit the Obama years and indirectly Obama. This is a danger because while there are plenty of progressives who are willing to critique said years, Obama remains an icon in the black community whose members & clergy ignored his failures to give him support.
Furthermore there is nothing that Donald Trump would like more that Democrats hitting Biden and by proxy the Obama years because the contrast between those years and today will be the basis of his run.
Biden understands this and coupled with his reputation as a gaffe machine and a dismal campaigner doesn’t help.
And then there’s this little #METOO ditty via Adam Sandler
That’s been viewed almost 2 million times and I suspect for the majority of those viewing it that was their 1st inkling that Joe Biden had a “hands” problem.
Some might disagree but I think Biden’s best early play is to keep low. After all the less he is associated with a bunch of socialists claiming that middle class whites are the devil the better chance he will have of convincing those voters that Democrats desperately need to win that he’s not part of that crazy crowd without actually having risk alienating activists whose hated for Trump is only exceeded by their hatred of apostates from any of their causes.
