…in a throw away sentence at the end of a segment on using the “Romney is rich and out of touch” attack. He suggests it could be a winning plan for Obama for his base, and to force a mistake ending with:
“…rather than making the election about the Obama record.”
This is why I’m very confident about November.
Barack Obama 2008, the blank slate that people wrote whatever they wanted to is not the Democratic Candidate. The Barack Obama running in 2012 is the one who has presided over the worst economy in my lifetime.
The folks on Morning Joe are spinning furiously talking about how this group or that group is going to have a problem. (Question if Romney has a 20 point gap with women and is up by 2, Obama has to have a bigger gender gap among men unless you have polling for “other”) but they miss the point.
No matter how you spin it, no matter how rich Mitt Romney is, the bottom line is people have lived under Obama for three years and after three years of being in charge, the administration would rather talk about absolutely anything but the job they’ve done.
When your strategy is: “Look: Romney’s a Mormon”, “Look: Romney’s is rich!”, “Look: Romney’s stiff”, “Look Rush says something that Mitt hasn’t condemned.” instead of “Look: I’ve done a great job!” that’s a problem.
You can’t win on this message, and Obama won’t.
Update: Moved the bold and added “but they miss the point.” to paragraph 5
Longtime political strategist David Axelrod, who helped advise President Obama’s presidential run in 2008 and is serving as communications director for Obama’s re-election campaign, has paid $1.7 million for a four-bedroom, 3,320-square-foot condo unit in a high-rise condo along Michigan Avenue.
This guy is no fool, the idea is to tempt the GOP to hit him on it so he can play “compare the wealth” with Governor Romney.
3. Barack Obama is running scared. 4 years ago, he was a blank slate. Today his blackboard is filled with a lot of action and little results. The $787 billion stimulus did nothing. The $700 billion TARP went into bankers pockets. The GM bailout affected only 1 in 5 Americans who actually buy a GM or Chrysler. The Arab Spring backfired. He gave up on Iraq and we are being tossed out of Afghanistan.
4. Obamacare. Never has a presidential domestic policy been so despised. The Vietnam War was more popular in 1968 — and LBJ decided against another term.
The 2012 election will not be about whether Ann Romney worked a day in her life or Rush Limbaugh calling a woman a slut or whether George Zimmerman is guilty of murder in the second degree.
The 2012 election is all about Barack Obama. For such a vain narcissist, Barack Obama sure is trying to get out of the spotlight on this one. That shows how little chance he really has.
You heard it there first.

The Obama administration is well aware of the weakness of their record, but I’m not sure they are worried about it that much. They’ve successfully ran the narrative since January: contraception, war on women, Buffett rules, Romney tortures dogs… on and on. With the media on their side, they don’t need to worry about the record because only wonks will be aware of it.

You guys are such dopes. Relying on anything Mark Halperin says is the give away.
I guess you are right, Obama shouldn’t run on his record. After recovering from the Bush induced financial crisis, 24 months of private sector job growth adding almost 3 million jobs is so horrible.
Regarding the stimilus, a third of the money was spent on tax cuts to get the support of the Republicans=that worked real well. A third went to the states to keep firefighters, police and teachers employed. Only problem is that when the money ran out the money ran out the Republican governors cut the jobs and used the savings to give tax breaks to their buddies. This is the first recovery in 100 years where public sector job growth has decreased.
Oh by the way how is the 100%+ growth in the Dow doing for you during the past 3 years? And record corporate profits?

In Chicago most people buy property in land trusts so your name doesn’t have to be in the public records. Either Alexrod wants the world to know about it or he’s not too bright.
agreed that most has been paid back … but the Bush TARP program was not the TARP program Obama implemented … Troubled Asset Relief Program … the original intent of TARP was to purchase outright “troubled assets” off the banks books … very little of that occured … many banks who did not have significant troubled assets where forced into the TARP program under Obama …
money for Fannie and Freddie was not part of the original TARP program either …
the thing is Romney didn’t come into any real money until after 1984 when he was 37 after having worked for over 8 years … the big money didn’t come until he was in his 40′s … he obviously earned his fortune thru effort and skill …
at one point he was living is a basement apartment with a wife and son …
the story about him putting his dog on the roof of his station wagon for a trip misses the point … he drove himself and he owned a STATION WAGON for g*ds sake … can’t get more suburban American than that …
They cannot run the candidate because his con is exploding in his face. All cons eventually explode and one of this complexity (and with such a poor student of the art at the center) will do so spectacularly. I know because I was a con-artist for years and have hung up my hoaxes, so to speak, after a stint in Federal prison. I posted a thorough fisking of the Con-in-Chief last evening, read it at http://wp.me/p27DAO-ia

What a bunch of right wing shills.
Joep, you can spin it, but when you do a good job, you say so and other people back up up.
The president doesn’t make that case and democrat candidates in contested races won’t appear with him.
When that changes hen I’ll buy what you’re selling
Sorry, but when you’ve run so many people out of the workforce, Obama hasn’t done shit.

“The $700 billion TARP went into bankers pockets.”
I disagree about this one. The banks repaid more-or-less all of the money they got. Anyway, TARP was done in the Bush administration.
